Having created a worldwide sensation with their albums Forgiven, Not Forgotten and Talk on Corners, Ireland's Corrs await the hit that will break them wide open in America. To that end, the group (who've earned a Rolling Stones openers slot) has issued a retooled version of its sophomore set, featuring five songs recast by some of Europe's hottest mixmasters, including K-Klass ("So Young"), Tin Tin ("What Can I Do?" and "Runaway," the latter song being from the group's debut), and "Dreams" (the Stevie Nicks song, remixed by Todd Terry, who turned Everything but the Girl's "Missing" into a smash). The new mixes for the most part aren't radical departures from the originals but strip away some elements, and add some spit and polish to others. "Dreams" is notable for taking the song even harder toward the dance floor without losing its appealing Celtic edge. The rest of the album is the same as the original version of Talk on Corners minus a few tracks, but still including their lovely version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing." --Daniel Durchholz

5 out of 5 stars Solid album.......2005-06-06

The Corrs second CD TALK ON CORNERS put the Irish group further into the pop music stratosphere. It is easily their best album so far in their career. Filled with radio friendly hits like "What Can I Do", "Only When I Sleep", "I Never Loved You Anyway", "So Young" and a great cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams". This Special Edition of the cd features their singles in remixed form. Also a bonus track, a remix of Runaway which was later rereleased as a single in 1999. Other highlights include "Don't Say You Love Me", "Hopelessly Addicted", "When He's Not Around" and "Love Gives, Love Takes". Overall a great pop album!

2 out of 5 stars For all who likes to be remixed ;).......2003-12-02

Talk On Corners album went successfuly in many of countries and several singles taken of it were remixed. And guess what happened! All the original versions were replaced by these remixes and the "Talk On Corners Special Edition" was made. To be honest, I don't like this way. I can't understand it what led to remix (and make worst...) Runaway of debut Forgiven, Not Forgotten so it is to be found here also. Other songs are the same, without any change, so here is the question if the album is worthwile to buy just because of five remixes... on the other hand - all the remix fanatics will be pleased for sure...

Songs review:

What Can I Do (Tin Tin Out remix) - even though I don't like remixes, this is quite good - a combination of strings and percussions sounds well...

So Young (K-Klass mix) - I cannot say this remix is bad; even though hasn't added any improvement, it is interesting, because this in this version there is one more verse! So we can enjoy 30 seconds more of optimism and happiness of life...

Dreams (Tee's radio) - oh my God! This style doesn't fit The Corrs in any way! The melodic song was defiled by various techno and electronic sounds which made it good only for night club party, sorry...

I Never Loved You Anyway (remix) - a bit different arrangement, for those who aren't musical enought, probably difference unable to hear. What's a pity, the song ends up with: "I'm delighted you're moving away" and what was the best, the instrumental epilogue... is simply away...

Runaway (Tin Tin Out remix) - the original version is sweet, but still pleasant to listen. The most beautiful was the gradation "I would runaway with you..." and the following guitar mini-solo - which I'm missing so much in this remix. It was a connection between this verse and refrain, now this sounds very unnaturally. What a shame...

4 out of 5 stars Excellent pop -.......2003-05-18

You can't get any luckier than this unless you're the Osmonds or the Jacksons - a family with good looks, great hooks, musicianship, style and grace. It's appalling that they haven't sold a zillion records here in the US. Perhaps it's because they've been "marketed" as an Irish group -- yet the Irishness is only incidental. Andrea Corr has an unmistakable voice and the group writes very polished pop songs; nothing heavy, mind you, just enjoyable. They have more musical depth to them than most prefabricated pop groups and these sibling can really play. This album is their best by far...let's hope they continue.

5 out of 5 stars breathless.......2003-02-16

My friend recommended this CD to me when I was in London. Since it was on sale, i said what the hell. After I heard it, I was totally hook. It was just too bad that when i got back to the States, they are not as widely known. But i am always looking forward to their new CD or DVD. Futhermore, you get some extra songs that are not release in the US version.

5 out of 5 stars "Of Corrs", this is the best album, if you pardon the pun !!.......2001-07-24

I know this CD has became harder to find, but I think we should take into consideration the two sides of the coin.

Some facts 'bout this CD version of "Talk On Corners":

***The version of 'Dreams' alone is a reason to get this record;

***It is pretty much of the same vintage as was their famous album "Forgiven Not Forgotten". Unlike the Special Edition and, for what it's worth, their album "In Blue", more pop-oriented(quite good still different), this album retains much of the Irish accents and folkish qualities that make them so unique;

***The original version of 'What Can I Do' (on the present CD) is, in my opinion, much more better than the remix on the current Special Edition album. Vocals, in particular, are much more vivid. One listen and you'll know the difference;

***At last, a good point for all the possible versions of "Talk On Corners": there is the song 'No Good For Me', enough good for me (and one of my favourite tracks), a solid rocking tune packed with a memorable presence by the melodic violin of Sharon Corr. An other good reason as to know why this CD has become a great sought-after recording of Pop Music. Incidentally, I prefer this side of the Corrs.

5 out of 5 stars Deservingly one of the greats!.......2006-11-12

Of all the Corrs' albums, this one has the most mixing of the traditional sound of Forgiven, Not Forgotten and the full on pop sound of In Blue. The lyrics take a mature look at relationships, and Andrea's dreamy voice is at its best. All of the Corrs' albums are must haves, but this is a good starting point.

2 out of 5 stars A Virgin Top 100 album? Puh-leeze!.......2006-10-21

I got roped into listening to this because it appeared on the Virgin "Top 100 Albums Ever" poll. I'd always thought "Runaway" was a nice tune, sounding like Wilson-Phillips with their Irish cousins helping out. The Corrs peddle a sort of lite Celtic pop with English lyrics. Unfortunately, too little time seems to be spent on the words. ("Queen of Hollywood" is particularly abysmal, a cliche about the small-town girl who's out to take Tinseltown by storm.)

The Irish band has been popular elsewhere on the globe but not Stateside. With this album, the tunes on the original TALK ON CORNERS are remixed to try and lend more pop appeal for the American market. (The band's big U.S. breakthrough wouldn't come until "Breathless" on followup disc IN BLUE).

HIGHLIGHTS:
"Runaway" doesn't stray too far from the original and its still a nicely lilting mid-tempo number with a fair amount of Celtic influence. While I don't like it as well as the Cranberries' cover, their take on Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" is also decent with a dance floor cast given to it. It's listenable but nothing that really remakes the song their own.

LOWS:
"Queen of Hollywood" and the pretentious pathos of "When he's Not Around" are easily the disc's nadirs. Hendrix cover "Little Wing" also fails, not because I feel the band commits musical sacrilege but because they can't choose a direction. It can't decide if it wants to be a smooth jazz retool or a Celtic re-interpretation (wasting some nice arrangement efforts by the Chieftains' Paddy O'Reilly because of the dilly-dallying).

BOTTOM LINE:
C'mon..couldn't people really have come up with something better to hail as one of the 100 finest recorded pieces of music ever?

4 out of 5 stars The Corrs Remixed.......2006-02-07

This is my latest Corr's CD I have listened to and needed to listen to the songs 3 more times over to get a full review in my head. I am The Corrs fan and I know that within Australia, The Corrs are gaining a wide and steady fan base amongst pop listeners. Truly, what is not to like about this band of young Irish ladies and gent. Andrea Corr is the lead female vocalist of this talented group and she has a fine musical voice rich and pure and just right for this style of music. This album is unique for the Corrs as it includes 5 remixes from European mixers such as K-Klass and Tin Tin.

'Talk On Corners' is a limited special edition CD that was released in North America first to try to open up a new and wider support base and the plan worked with the Corr's remixed song 'Runaway' popular on US radio's. The song's that are remixed are; 'What Can I Do', 'Runaway' remixed by Tin Tin Out. 'So Young' remixed by K-Klass and 'Dreams' is a radio edit mix.

However what captured my attention and my immediate like were the new songs 'Paddy McCarthy' which was a return to native Irish instrumentals and 'Hopelessly Addicted'. The last track is a take off from Jimmy Hendric's 'Little Wing' that sure isn't a bad listen.

Overall this album is worth the buy and listen. It takes some time to grow on you, but trust me, you will like the end product. The Corrs continue their journey and I look forward to more album released by this foursome of talent.

4 out of 5 stars Good remixes.......2005-07-21

Y'all should shut up before talking. These "garbage" dance remixes that you ignorants are talking about are what made Corrs have top10 hit after top10 hit, whilst the originals flopped badly. The remixes are all superb, and anyone who disagrees has poor music taste!

5 out of 5 stars I LOVE this cd!!.......2004-11-04

I recommend this CD to everyone ... I never get bored. Listen to it in the shower, in the car, or just sitting there. It's an awesome CD. This is by far my favorite Corrs cd :).

5 out of 5 stars The Corrs rock!!!.......2001-04-02

The Corrs are one of the coolest bands to recently come out of Ireland. This is my favourite album of the Corrs and i have to admit to loving the remixes!! I first heard of the Corrs through their cover version of Dreams which got me hooked. All the songs are perfect, but especially to mention are What can i do, I never loved you anyway, Queen of Hollywood, Runaway, When hes not around and Intimacy!! One to add to your shopping basket...

5 out of 5 stars The Corrs RULE!.......2001-02-04

I am a deep fan of the Corrs and to be honest with you this would have to be one of their best albums. Although there might not be much difference between this special edition and the normal edition, get this one if any because you'll love it the moment you get it.

1. What Can I Do (Tin Tin Out Remix) - ***** very very good! This version is nearly as good as the Unplugged version. 2. So Young (K-Klass Remix) - **** 1/2 nice song, but isn't a classic. 3. Only When I Sleep - ***** now this is a good song! One of the best singles on the album. 4. When He's Not Around - **** 1/2 excellent song; could do with a little 'peppering' up 5. Dreams (Tee's Radio) - ***** great single and best remix so far 6. I Never Loved You Anyway - **** 1/2 unique track; but wasn't a very good selling single though 7. Don't Say You Love Me - ***** one of the best non-singles on the album! 8. Love Gives, Love Takes - ***** brilliant song and great lyrics 9. Runaway (Tin Tin Out Remix) - ***** corrs classic of course & their first single but I don't know why they put it on the album 10. Hopelessly Addicted - ***** at first you might not like it but it turns out to be a very good lyrical track! 11. Paddy McCarthy - ***** BEST track on the album! chilling instrumental, great quality 12. Initimacy - ***** my favourite non-single, non-instrumental track on the album! great chorus with oohooh in it hehhe 13. Queen of Hollywood - **** 1/2 the corrs seem to like this one a lot (because they put it on Unplugged) but it is a little boring. The lyrics are good though! 14. No Good For Me - ***** fab lyrics although the song is a little dreary. It grows on you though! 15. Little Wing - ***** very nice Hendrix cover!

Overall: Best tracks: PADDY McCARTHY, INTIMACY, WHAT CAN I DO

Last words: BUY IT!

1 out of 5 stars Their 3rd release of the exact same music.......1999-11-17

Oh, boy! Yet ANOTHER special edition. First there's Talk On Corners, then there's the first special edition of Talk On Corners, now another special edition. That's right, folks, just keep spending your money on the same songs. Their music is great and everything, but when do we get to hear something new? Don't even waste your money with the "special editions". The original Talk On Corners is good enough. Don't waste your money unless you're a die-hard fan who just has to have everything they do.

5 out of 5 stars I love their music!!.......1999-06-08

The Corrs have a natural talent in music and very good voices. Their music just sounds beautiful with all those Irish instruments in it. It's pure beauty. The Corrs are one of my favourite bands and i think they're just fab!!

5 out of 5 stars The Corrs is really amazing!!.......1999-06-04

This is a special edition from thier album Talk On Corners, and i know you had hooked by the original one, then buy this one as well, you'll be hooked again and again. Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Very sophisticated album!.......2003-12-02

Two years after their debut The Corrs are back again with more sophisticated album, contributed by a lot of famous producers... but The Corrs are still true, wearing their faces and acting naturally. They worked with Carol Bayer Sager, who co-writed with Andrea lyrics of I Never Loved You Anyway and Don't Say You Love Me. I must mention two covers: Little Wing of Jimi Hendrix, arranged in a Celtic style by Paddy Maloney of The Chiftains, and the song Dreams of Fleetwood Mac, which appeared on this album after a re-release in 1998. This album is so fine to listen... and you feel simply great:-)

Songs review:

Only When I Sleep - very sophisticated (as the whole album...) and tempting song. And the video also;-) The Corr sisters did very good job on vocals, mostly in refrain.

When He's Not Around - a song about fatal attraction. How else you could name the feeling when "I can't breathe and I can't sleep when he's not around"? One of the most Irish-sounding songs on the album

Dreams - already mentioned re-make of Fleetwood Mac's song. Guess, who did it better?;-)

What Can I Do - a neverending topic: she loves him, he doesn't her... But you should realise, dear Andrea, that love needs two and by crying you can do nothing... It is very interesting on this song that it was released in many of version and remixes. Count with me: original edit, Tin Tin Out remix on Talk On Corners (special edition), a stringapella version on remix single What Can I Do, Mangini mix on remix single Runaway, song was performed on MTV Unplugged concert and it exist also as acoustic version, available only on limited US version of In Blue. What do you say? Oh, and I almost forgot: in the UK there was released special concert single with recordings from Royal Albert Hall... I'm totally washed out:-))

I Never Loved You Anyway - let's play a psychologist game - you broke up and you don't know what to do? Go for an advice, listen to this folk-rock song and you'll know...

So Young - we are twenty (+/-), young, and what's more, fallen in love, flying above in clouds... We're so young!!! Could you wish for more?

Don't Say You Love Me - a classic sweetish ballad I consider too sweet...

Love Gives, Love Takes - well, many songs were sung about love, but you can sing about it again and again... Also in this song... It is average, but in standard quality...

Hopelessly Addicted - oh, I love this song! Fine music to listen and the words... you wake up one day and feel something more. How to say it... friendship has grown to a higher level... Who didn't happen this, will never understand;-)

Paddy McCarthy - the only one instrumental on the album. Once The Corrs were asked, who was Paddy McCarthy. They replied: This is old Irish joke - to name songs by a name of imaginary person...":-)

Intimacy - even though this song was not written by The Corrs, they did it more than well. Every one of us needs someone to be held, to be carried, to be loved... first it is your mother, then your 'angel'...

Queen Of Hollywood - a very emotive and psychologic song about a girl who in craving for fame and career left family, friends and went to try her fortune. When shining on TV, everybody is jealous on her success, but anyone cannot see behind the scenes...

No Good For Me - I can name this song only as fatal. Even though nothing sung in it happened to me, every time I listen to it I feel goose-bumps on my body. Who can listen well, will hear Jim sing for sure: "I'm shaking like a leaf" - the one and only solo in his carrer:-))

Little Wing - if Jim Hendrix could hear this re-make of his song, he would be surprised as well. But also pleased;-) And who knows good old men of The Chieftains, can appreciate many of small details... but the details are what makes the complete art...
--------------------------------
This release features also two tracks from the Corrs' previous release - Forgiven, Not Forgotten

4 out of 5 stars one of my favorite Corrs album.......2003-07-20

This is one of my more favorite Corrs album, along with Corrs Unplugged, where traditional compilation sits alongside pop songs.

5 out of 5 stars Absolute Perfection.......2002-10-18

There's a reason the average customer rating for this album is five stars: it is truly one of the most well-crafted and performed records of all time. The Corrs have clearly outdone themselves on their follow-up to "Forgiven, Not Forgotten".

Right away, this album has a different feel to it. 'Only When I Sleep' is literally oozing with rock and roll - vivid lyrics, Motown-like harmonies, and a timeless violin/accordian/tin whistle solo. From then on, the group showcases their ability to excel at different musical styles. Dark, haunting sounds easily mix with lighthearted, spring-like tunes.

So what makes this better than the Remix editions? While I can't speak for the European mix, the original is vastly superior to the US Special Edition. The entire album is one big highlight, but there are some songs that simply deserve recognition.

'Dreams': I've always loved the Fleetwood Mac version of this classic, but the Corrs have brought out what Stevie Nicks could not. Without her droning voice, the Irish band has added instrumentals and made the song truly their own - it even has a mystical Celtic feel.

'What Can I Do': I've heard many great vocal performances, but this is easily one of the top 10. The Corr sisters outdo themselves on the harmonies, showing that simplicity can take you farther than ornate flourishes. You won't be able to resist singing along.

'Queen of Hollywood': The lyrics of this song are strong, but they become powerful when combined with Andrea Corr's pleading vocals. The story of a young girl's tragic introduction to the world of the stars, it will grab your heart.

'I Never Loved You Anyway': Introduced by a sexy violin solo, this song is the quintessential breakup tune. A great in-your-face number with a catchy refrain...you'll love it!

'Little Wing': I've never heard the Jimi Hendrix version of this song, but the Corrs (with the help of the Chieftains) have made it haunting and dream-like. An Irish rendition at its best.

This album has it all - Irish instruments, great vocals, and amazing songwriting. The bonus videos are a real treat, especially for fans who don't get the chance to see the band on television. Buying one Corrs album? Make it this one.

5 out of 5 stars BEST OF THE CORRS!!!!.......2001-10-28

This album is an absolute masterpiece!!! It is beyond me how any human being can write music and lyrics like this. They are really very talented. They have the whole package: the fantasticly composed music and lyrics, the ability to captivate an audience at a live concert and the looks (which really mean nothing).
After the success of their first album in Australia and Ireland(and hardly aywhere else)they released Talk On Corners and began to receive a bit more recognition (not as much as they deserve though)and to me this is just perfect. The songs are a mix of traditional Irish music and melodic pop/rock and they blend together to give the unique sound of THE CORRS.
The opening track is Only When I Sleep. The first song to be released as a single. This is the Corrs at their best. Other highlights on the album include the love song What Can I Do? (the original not the remix), I Never Loved You Anyway, Queen Of Hollywood, the uplifting cover of the Fleetwood Mac classic Dreams (only on the re-released original version), and the beautiful Irish Instrumental Paddy McCarthy.THE WHOLE ALBUM IS A HIGHLIGHT!!!!
The Speial Edition of TOC is definatley not as good as the first release. Only a few song's on the special edition are different to the ones on the original release but the remix just don't have the same feeling as the original's do.
They could of titled this album THE BEST OF THE CORRS because this is them at their absolute best. So pick up a copy of the original release NOT the special edition.
This is my favorite alum of all time, nothing even comes close to copare it too > > > > > therefore BUY IT!!!
I recomend to anyone to buy it!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars It's definitely worth the import price to get the original.......2001-04-03

It's such a shame that the Corrs aren't as big here in the states as they are in Europe... Even without the bonus Vcd which contains the videos to Only When I Sleep, What Can I Do, and Dreams, it's definitely worth it to dish out the little extra cash to pay for this import version. The Vcd just makes it that much more better!

My fav's on this CD are Only When I Sleep, Dreams (cover of Fleetwood Mac's), What Can I Do, Little Wing (cover of Hendrix's), So Young, and Runaway - all of which are regularly featured in their concerts. I also love Paddy McCarthy, an instrumental written by the Corrs which show their Irish roots.

This original version is unavailable in the states; the version of Talk on Corners sold in the states is actually a remixed version with the production geared towards the pop sounds that seem to appeal more to U.S. audiences. Though the differences are pretty subtle, if you want the original version you'll need to get this import version. And trust me, this wasn't easy to come by when I first ordered it. Amazon now has some in stock, but when I ordered it, it took almost 2 months for Amazon to hunt down a copy for me! Buy this CD/Vcd while it's here! You won't regret it!
