I bought this CD in August because I wanted to hear the unreleased songs that weren't on "A Rush of Blood to the Head." I was pleasantly surprised. 1.36 is definately a departure from Coldpaly's norm, much more rock-like than their other stuff, but the greatness here lies in "I Ran Away," which in my opinion, would have been great as a 12th song on "A Rush..." A must for any and all Coldplay fans.

I was so angry when I read the review "A Chore to listen through" The Scientist is truly excellent. Coldplay are anything but boring and conventional. I Ran Away is also really good, I thought it was definitely good enough to go on A Rush Of Blood To The Head.

1.36 is a strange little song, but not bad. Chris' vocals sound pretty weird on it. But the real gem here is "I Ran Away," which is a really great song. I don't see why it wasn't on "Rush of Blood to the Head." And of course, The Scientist is a very good song.

Anyone who thinks "The Scientist" is not one of the greatest songs Coldplay has ever produced is a few cans short of a 6 pack. The song is beautifully crafted and the raw emotion in Martin's voice is almost heartbreaking. Furthermore, considering Martin himself stated that he could die happy after creating this song, if you do not like this song, maybe you don't know what Coldplay is all about it and should go listen to some TRL music kids.

Amazon didn't list all the tracks here -- it also includes "Planet's Own Brand" and "Curse of the Black Ass Buffalo," both fine GBV songs, especially in the latter when Bob croons "we'd rather throw parties than stones/we'd rather break virgins than bones" in his most soulful frat-brother style, but the real treat here is "Do The Earth," still my favorite GBV song -- rarely have they mused their melodiousness and their native jam-kicking together so seamlessly and with such determined, jet-fueled insistence: perfect pop-punk that goes down like chilled, Alex Chilton-infused vodka. The version of "I Am a Scientist" is different from the one on "Bee Thousand" -- it gets much more of a head-on, rock song treatment here. Mmmm. Can I get a double, please, bartender?

Another soon to be classic from scientist, you've got to hear it. Any culture fan will love this dubbed out reworking of the "Payday" album. Be sure to check out "payday" by Culture also.

great, but not magnificent.......2006-01-21

This is the only Scientist cd I have besides Scientist rids the world of the evil curse of the vampires. That said, this album is a truly great dub cd yet not as good as "Rids the world". I'm so used to listening to old school "sounding" dub that its odd to hear a dub cd that sounds so crisp and new, a definite 2000 feel. I haven't heard the original Culture songs that are dubbed on this album, but personally I think they sound great- they have a noticable Scientist feel to them. If you're looking for some new dub, look no further. If you're a fan of Scientist at all, this album is for you.

Scientist is probably the best dub artist out there. However, this CD doesn't ever get a groove going like some of his earlier stuff.

Dubroom Review.......2001-11-09

This is the DUB version of Culture's excellent Roots Reggae release "Payday". It is mixed by one of the true legends of DUB: Scientist, the Dub specialist. His hands are faster than the speed of light, and he sounds like dynamite! Aha, yes, with this album he proves to still be among the top of the Dubmasters!

I am happy that Scientist hasn't lost his energy, because the same wild style of mixing that I know from, for example, the Greensleeves series, I find it back on this release. And that is not the only thing that reminds me of these classics, because the cover also comes in Comic book style and portrays the artists as superhero's like Batman and Superman. The tracks have impressing titles inna Science Fiction Style: "Beam me up, Dubby", and " Intergalactic Excursion" to name but two. All these things together form the ingredients for a Dubwize Experience Extra-Ordinary!

Although there are many similarities with older releases, this CD should not be viewed as "Retro" at all. It is obvious that here we can hear a Mature Scientist: someone with decades of Dub experience. The skilful use of digital effects and recording techniques prove that DUB is still strong, in fact it becomes a more contemporary style of music every day.

There's an interview with Scientist as well, in which he describes the difference between King Tubby and Scientist on one side and Lee Perry on the other. Scientist explains: "His (L.P.) remixes are different from ours: Scratch doesn't have the same edge. Like what Tubby and I have... we actually manipulate the equipment to get what we want. He knows music, but as far as the electronic side..."

The only Retro-aspect on this album I do not like, is the length. It's 47 minutes long and contains 11 tracks. It would have been nice to have some bonus tracks as well. But, it is a good thing to see that the Scientist still releases masterworks. So go buy this one if you're into the wild style of the Scientist.

He's still got it!.......2001-09-24

With so many played out, old, recycled, lo-fi dub compilation albums being released on small time independent labels, it is great to see that Scientist is still around, creating wicked NEW dub versions. This album shows why Scientist is one of reggae music's most revered producers. On "Scientist Dubs Culture...", Scientist teams up with another legendary reggae artist, Culture, but does not strip the tracks down to the point that the original song is unrecognizable. This album is as much "Culture" as it is "Scientist",and is true to form. Scientist's mixing is superb and effects laden while Culture is as dread as ever. "SDCIPU" is truly an album for dub/roots fans; Reminiscent of the early 80's, but with a clarity and sound quality for the 00's.

When you hear this..............2005-02-15

you realise what a disappointing CD 'First Class' was. I remember watching the video to this on 'Yo MTV Raps' and eagerly awaing an CD realise that never came. I won't say that he's the greatest MC per se, but his voice rides the beat, giving a straight up course of some old-skool Hip hop. As an avid collector of 'old skool toons, just one will be going on my Ipod ASAP

Yo straight up and down this is probably won of the most underrated artist (or producer) on this blasted planet. Large Pro has made cuts for Nas to his own group Main Source and the beats are organic non-commercial is the the tru "hip jop head" will apperciate...Check it Out!

This is one of scientists most recent works. This disc was released in 05' and proves that the legendary apprentice master, scientist, is still at large. Excellent dub cd with a style that is unique, if you like his other cds buy this!

Fun and educational.......2006-12-23

As a father, uncle, and concerned friend, I recommend these CDs for my children, nieces/nephews and friends' children. I enjoy them as much as the kids and they teach the children about science. There are three right now and they are great. Buy one as a present today and give a child something to listen to that is educational. All ages like them from my one year old daughter to my 8 year old nephew and I am sure that they will like them for some time to come.
