5 out of 5 stars An Underrated Band At Their Best........2006-12-28

I always enjoyed Pablo Cruise, but rarely hear them on the radio anymore. this is an excellent collection of their music.

The one drawback: I only knew of three Pablo Cruise songs: "Love Will Find A Way," "Whatcha Gonna Do?", and my personal favorite, "A Place In The Sun." Those also happen to be the first three selections on the project. I would have spread them out a little, to try to keep interest.

Very good project.

Some of the songs are arranged differently from the original. Still not bad listening!

4 out of 5 stars missing a song.......2006-02-06

The production of these songs are the greatest starting with great drums sounds. The musicanship & writting are great. The only problum is they did not include Worlds Away on the Greatest hits Cd. This song was used on Monday night football & is a great track. Someone tell me why.

5 out of 5 stars It captures the best.......2004-02-16

I have been a real long time fan of this band.I can remember these guys when I was a medic at letterman Hospital in the early seventies. These guys were real people. not rock stars. I went to so many shows all over to here this band now I can hear Ocean Breeze.Bud had a great voice. David really could cut loose.Steve price kiked but on the rythym stuff. Corey well what can I say other than Great Keys. These guys had a magic that is hard to describe.Time has done its thing thats why we have not heard anything in years from such a great group. This CD is about the best of the best.Until some old live stuff comes out to capture what this highly underated band could or can do we have to settle for this. This CD is done well and is worth every penny.
ENJOY!

4 out of 5 stars unexpected fun.......2007-06-21

After doing what I thought was a very good job searching for every rock artist from the 70's, I somehow completely missed Pablo Cruise. I thought I'd never heard of them until "Love Will Find a Way" came on. A VERY popular song that one was. You will recognize it.

Anyway, Worlds Away gives me mixed feelings. Well, for the most part I have nothing but good things to say about it. The title song rules. A fast-paced emotional rocker. You've heard similar songs from the 70's from many artists. Good way to open things. "Family Man" is more or less written the same way. I love it. "Runnin" features GREAT guitar and piano playing.

The second side is not so great, though. The first two songs ("Don't Want to Live Without It" and "You're Out to Lose") sound like attempts for commercial hits. "Always Together" is a respectable ballad. I think the highlight of the entire album is a song called "Sailing to Paradise" which reminds me of Jefferson Starship, and the lead singer sounds like David Bowie too, strangely enough. "I Go to Rio" is just a good song. I can't explain it any better.

Overall, these guys are good songwriters, but even better at jamming on the piano and electric guitar.

5 out of 5 stars Pablo at their best.......2007-06-11

As far as any single album of this band goes, this album blew them all away. It's as other folks have said , not a bad cut on the CD. Bruce Days vocals with David Jenkins make Family man a Beatles bonanza. World's Away has the drive and groove that make you want to jump up and say WOW!!! Plus I Go To Rio makes the last song on the Cd a perfect place to start again on the first song. It's their complete album and after this one they sunk to the lure of disco , this is the album to buy for a perfect package !!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome........2007-02-23

I bought this CD for my dad as a late birthday present. I've listened to it several times and the music is great! I listen to it over and over! There aren't many songs but the CD is worth it!

5 out of 5 stars pablo cruise worlds away........2007-01-05

this cd as far as i am concerned has the most underrated love ballard of all times. always be together is to myself, by far, the best love ballard of all times. listen to the words and music you will understand what i mean. along with worlds away a nice rock tune along with the hits, love will find a way, don't want to live without it,i go to rio this cd has great music. i have always enjoyed pablo cruise, and this cd especially. on nights, when you want to spend time relaxing to good music with your better half, this cd is a nice one to listen to play always be together at the right moment and enjoy .

5 out of 5 stars The Pablo Peak.......2003-05-21

It's always nice to hear a good band when they hit their peak. For Pablo Cruise, this was it. Several other LPs, before and since, had a few nice moments. "Worlds Away," however, is worlds above their other efforts.

The theme of Pablo was always island/beach related, and their music found its niche within the pop/rock genre. They were able to take the Beach Boys motif into a late '70s/early '80s sensibility, much like Jimmy Buffett had done a few years earlier. There is a blend of upbeat happy sounds ("Worlds Away," "Love Will Find a Way," "Don't Want to Live Without It," "I Go to Rio"), more intense riffs ("Runnin'"), and pleasant mellow sounds ("Always Be Together," "Sailing to Paradise").

The end result is a timeless sound. Much of the music from that era was disco-themed or punkish, but Pablo rose above trendiness and created something quite special that sounds as fresh and make-you-smile as anything ever made. Well worth holding a slot in your CD changer on a regular basis.

4 out of 5 stars A Fine Album That Is Highly Underrated.......2000-02-20

Back in 1977 as a record buying teenager, I didn't have the luxury of a listening station ( or an Amazon.com for that matter ) to help guide my music purchases. It was the frequent playing of Pablo Cruises' " Atlanta June " and " Whatcha Gonna Do ? " by a local FM album rock station ( WCCC ) that convinced me to buy this album . I wasn't disappointed . I don't feel that there's one bad track to be found here . The first two tracks, " A Place in the Sun " and " Whatcha Gonna Do ? " are catchy, singable mid tempoed songs . The theme of the next five songs is about love and romance but not in a corny or sickeningly sweet way . " Raging Fire " is I think one of the great wedding songs that never was . Its words, sentiment and piano playing are beautiful ; a Valentine set to music that's one of my favorites . The songs " Can't You Hear the Music " and " Never Had A Love " are seamlessly blended together by high energy guitar, piano, and drum playing that sounds really great. Next comes " Atlanta June ", which I believe almost anyone would fall for after just one listen . The words and melody sung are most certainly memorable but it's Cory Lerios' gorgeous crystalline piano playing that helps make it one of the albums top 2 or 3 tracks if not its' best . Overall this collection of songs is enjoyable and deserves its' place ( in the sun ) in your 100 disc cd changer.

5 out of 5 stars Withstands the test of time.......1998-07-25

This was the first album I bought with my own money, and I must say that it has withstood the test of time. The tracks are classic pop that you forever find yourself singing along with.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Under-rated band makes splash.......2005-01-19

This, the self-titled first album by Pablo Cruise, proves the superior musicianship that characterized their music throughout the 70's and beyond. From the smooth groove of the opening track "Island Woman" driven by bassist Bud Cockrell, to the pop-rocker "What Does It Take", to lead guitarist David Jenkins' soulful acoustic ballad "In My Own Quiet Way", to the stunning climactic operetta - "Ocean Breeze", featuring both the classical genre of Cory Lerios' piano licks, as well as more classic white soul from Jenkins.

They rivaled Elton John's "Funeral For A Friend" with the driving instrumental "Zero To Sixty In Five" on their second album "Lifeline", and finally hit their first commercial success on their third album "A Place In The Sun". But it is this first album that defines Pablo Cruise as one of the most talented bands of the '70's. Nobody played better than these guys.

4 out of 5 stars Pablo Cruise "The Facts".......2002-04-08

The issue about Ocean Breeze. It's a great song from their first "Self Titled" album. Ocean breeze is nearly 12 and a half minutes long. "Zero to Sixty-Five" is a great song but is easily dwarfed by the elegance of Ocean Breeze. Contrary to popular belief Ocean Breeze WAS released on CD on the A&M Classics Volume 26 "Pablo Cruise" CD2524/DX003418 which included most of their great songs except "Zero to Sixty-Five"

5 out of 5 stars Their best album EXPENSIVE-but BUY IT!!!!!.......2002-02-15

This is one of my favorite groups, and this is their best album. It's from 76, their second album.I first bought Place In The Sun, then I backtracked and got this one.I was surprised how country sounding it was ,yet I loved it.I was never a big country fan.The only song on here that I dont care for is Who Knows.Look To The Sky and Tearin Down My Mind are my favorites. Good Ship Pablo Cruise is probably the most fun song the band has ever done, its similar to Dancin In The Moonlight by King Harvest.Crystal is a great ballad. The Nautilus half-speed LP version(released in 1981) sounds better than the CD, but they did a pretty good job with the CD transfer in 95.

2 out of 5 stars F Y I--- "Zero to Sixty in Five" is the best on this CD.......2001-04-13

    Hey Rich-

Get your sources straight! Some portions of ABC's Wide World of Sports theme song was taken from "Zero to Sixty in Five". Also, the instrumental song, "Ocean Breeze" is from Pablo Cruise's first album simply labled- Pablo Cruise. It has a gorilla in the center of a jungle landscape, released originally on the A&M recording label.

    4 out of 5 stars Lifeline.......2001-03-11

A great album. The listener from Murrieta, CA who wondered about a 6 minute cut by Pablo Cruise won't find it here. The cut is titled "Ocean Breeze", from the album of the same title, which has never been released on CD. Portions of the song were used some years ago by ABC as the theme song for the wild world of sports (or maybe the world series).

5 out of 5 stars Is there a "Zero to Sixty in Five" on this?.......2001-02-26

I've bought the "Worlds Away" "& "A Place In the Sun" on 8 track years ago in the mid 70's,on (yes) 8 track tape. But some how I thought that there was a song on it called "Zero to Sixty in Five"on one of those releases,so I bought them again, this time on CD,and it was'nt on either one.Now I'm banking that the song that I'm looking for is on "Life Lines" Does any one out there remember Pablo Cruise palying an instrumental song lasting at least six minutes long, on any of his music? If you do please help me locate it. I've been trying to find it for the last 25 yrs.ever since I wore out my 8 track tape.It starts out on key board(or may be piano)slow then it realy cranks.I appreciate any help in locating ONE of the BEST cuts that "Pablo Cruise" has ever made. 5 out of 5 stars A Pablo Cruise collection worth owning.......2004-01-21

This is Pablo Cruise at its best. The listing above doesn't include all the songs, but they are "You Might Be Wrong", "Ocean Breeze", "A Place in the Sun", "What'cha Gonna Do?", "Another World", "Never Had A Love", "Atlanta June", "Cool Love", "One More Night", "Inside/OutSide", "Love Will Find A Way", "Family Man", "Don't Want to Live Without It", and "You're Out To Loose".

This was 'the' band for rock & harmony in the late '70s. They had tremendous musical ("Ocean Breeze") and vocal talent ("Love Will Find A Way").

The following is excerpts from www.pablocruiseband.com:

Pablo Cruise was originally formed in 1973 in the San Francisco Bay Area by founders Cory Lerios, David Jenkins, Bud Cockrell, and Steve Price. In 1976, they began their radio notoriety with the top 5 hit "What'cha Gonna Do (When She Says Goodbye)" from the double platinum record album "A Place In The Sun". On the next LP, Dave took over all lead vocal responsibilities after Bud had decided to leave the band for a while.

Pablo's second LP, "Worlds Away", displayed Dave's vocal abilities and the writing success of Dave and Cory on their blue-eyed soul hits. "Love Will Find a Way" and "Don't Wanna Live Without It". That album sold double platinum in the U.S. and Canada and introduced Pablo to most of the rest of the world.

The next two LP's produced more radio activity with Dave singing the 80's disco inspired "I Want You Tonight" and then the classic "Cool Love" from the sixth album, "Reflector".
