Editorial Reviews

About the Artist
Something For Rockets was the first unsigned band to ever be featured on MTV's "You Heard It First". They also served as correspondents for MTV at the South by Southwest festival in Austin\, Texas. The news piece featured the band interviewing other bands and showed clips of Something For Rockets playing live.

Music from Something For Rockets will be featured in an upcoming segment of MTV's Real World (Philadelphia episode 22).

Their song "All OK" was featured as background music for the end credits of the Super Bowl pregame show.

They recently made their live TV debut on the show Screen Savors. They wrote, produced and recorded the theme for the Nickelodeon Movies logo. This logo appears before every movie produced by Nickelodeon.

Product Description
Something For Rockets infuse hypnotic dance-floor beats with lush meolody and poignant lyrics. Evocative, intelligent, and stylish, the result is a sound that is both vintage and future, dark and playful, and all anchored by the romantic sentiment of young and hopeless-self-distruction.

3 out of 5 stars Please enter a title for your review.......2006-05-23

I listened to this because Mark Hoppus talks about them on his podcast. Like buddyhead the dude has a great sense of humour but kinda indiscriminate taste in music. What struck me immediately is how much the vocals sound like Depeche Mode, and more new DP than old DP. The music generally seems unambitious and not even very contemporary. It reminds me more than anything of a more understated version of INXS and to a lesser extent U2, exhibiting a similarly faceless blend of pop and rock that brings it's pop leanings to the forefront but never really achieves any distinct or memorable hooks or melodies. I guess the fact that they're on 33rd Street Records, a label that generally releases hopelessly outdated conservative unhip music, and boasts a website that looks like it was designed by an 8 year old down's syndrome sufferer, seems apt.

3 out of 5 stars THE POSTAL SERVICE STILL BETTER.......2006-05-22

I happen to be a big fan of 'The Postal Service' and 'The Strokes' which are 2 different subgenres of indie music. Myspace says SFR is a mix of the Postal Service and The Strokes? Yes, BUT not entirely. The tone of the vocals do remind of the unique indie rock singer Julian Casablancas of The Strokes. Of course, the sounds of The Strokes sounds like 60's,70's rock/pop. Something For Rockets's music beats are great and do remind me of The Postal Service's indietronic/indie pop beats, BUT, the lyrics from SFR are plain, cheap, low-grade, and just TOO general. At least 4 of the tracks have cheap lyrics. The themes of the tracks are based on sex. The 4 tracks with cheap lyrics remind me of a theme of most rap or hip-hop songs. I mean come on, ANYBODY, can think of those lyrics. If you like poetic, creative, exquisite lyrics that are ACTUALLY LYRICAL(like The Postal Service), then Something For Rockets is not near that. If the lyrics were better, then I would have added the other 2 stars. In the end, Postal Service is a better all around package for indie pop/electronica music. Even the lyrics in all The Strokes songs are MUCH MORE creative and imaginative.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Funky Tunes!.......2005-11-05

This album is so good. I saw this band live in Seattle and had to get the CD. Very swanky, fun mix of medolies and great lyrics. If I want to dance or have an instant pick me up this is what I put in! If you love music you need to buy this one!

4 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend Something For Rockets.......2005-08-18

I immediately fell in love with the melodic upbeat tunes. Great for dancing or thinking of the one you love, DM. For those who enjoy stylish and energetic beats, I highly recommend.

I saw these guys in Seattle play with USE and now I see them everytime they're in town and it's always a good time. A buddy of mine gave me the album and it was an instant hit with my stereo - it wouldn't let me take it off. I have Everybody Loves A Lot on my computer at work and I honestly don't think I could get tired of it. It's one of those laid back songs that builds up to an amazing finish. Highly recommended.
