Apart from his regular gig, Dispatch singer/bassist Pete Francis comes off as a musical schizophrenic. Here he skips from the psychedelic prattle of Pink Floyd to the whimsy of Thelonious Monk to a full-out soul that would do Teddy Pendergrass proud, finally coming to some resolution with Van Morrison-like folk-rock. But Francis, who goes by the name Peter Francis Heimbold in his regular party-hearty band gig--has a way with words. Most of his lyrics are impressionist blots of repeating images, fragile characters, and Freudian symbols that fail to make a coherent narrative statement. Still, the musicianship is first rate. Jazz bassist Marty Ballou and percussionist Marty Richards cast a mighty rhythmic spell, providing inventive textures around Francis's sparse guitar work. --Jaan Uhelszki

5 out of 5 stars Glad I Waited To Review This Gift.......2005-01-12

This cd took me about 8 months to truly appreciate. Then one day it just struck me and I couldn't stop listening to it. It is just amazing and beautiful. It first reminded me of a mellow Big Head Todd. It's so much more than that.

It's worth the effort to get it all in. Don't pass this up.

2 out of 5 stars David Gray Wannabe.......2004-08-26

Not that that's a bad thing. David Gray happens to be a personal fave of mine. I bought this cd for the song Untold, having heard a brief snippet of it on a tv show. I need to give it more play, I'm sure, to find all the nuances that other reviewers here seem to have found on this cd. So far, I'm not feeling it.

5 out of 5 stars Pete's the man!.......2004-01-28

I've been a Dispatch fan and Pete fan for a number of years and have become very involved within his career. After a successful run with Dispatch Pete has been able to maintain his roots and continue to shine. The energy and sound of the album are uniquely that of Pete Francis. The album's success is a blessing and he truly deserves all the recognition it's recieving. In all honesty, Pete is my favorite live performer and his small intimate shows are priceless. He is a genuinely great guy just out to have fun and put a smile on your face. Check out the album and check him out on tour and if you like him I advise you to look into other similar artists no matter how non-mainstream they are, as well as the solo efforts of his two other Dispatch band members.
Peace

4 out of 5 stars Don't let this album be Unheard..........2003-12-10

Here's a cd that provides great mood for those early morning road trips, dinner during sunset and cocktails with friends. I first saw Pete perform live as an opener for Better Than Ezra. I bought the cd on a whim and have been thankful ever since.

ONE TRAIN is a wonderful addition to any mix tape made for someone you have a crush on...

STONES has a HOT HOT HOT bassline, that defines the entire mood of the song. Try NOT moving your head to this one.

BENEATH THE FIRE-
One of the most beautiful songs ever written for 9/11 exists on this album, and its sad that not many people have ever heard of it thus far. It explains the story of a Firefighter's Dad searching through the rumble of ground zero, searching for his boy's body, so that he may be properly laid to rest.
This album is worth the purchase for this song alone.

Pete's voice is definately equal to the dosage of a mood relaxor. I highly recommend this prescription for cool...

5 out of 5 stars YOU MUST BUY THIS CD!!!!!.......2003-12-06

Pete Francis is a brilliant singer/songwriter! The entire CD is just amazing. You must buy the CD. He is an even more amazing performer. He will floor you! You must buy this CD . . .better yet, buy 10 copies of it. You will want to share it with all your friends as soon as you hear it. For tour dates and to hear his music go to www.petefrancis.com

2 out of 5 stars Little fish in a big sea (2.5/5).......2007-04-20

Illegal was the creation of hip hop superproducer Dallas Austin, attempting to cash in on the kiddie rap fad in 1993. He took two already established teenage rappers, Jamal "Mally G," a Philadelphia native and affiliate of Erick Sermon and his Def Squad collective, and Lil' Malik, a Long Beach MC and cousin of Snoop Dogg, who appeared on such g-funk classics as Doggystyle and Regulate...G Funk Era to form a duo. This idea sounds great on paper, and could have been executed to perfection. The boys are both very good rappers in their own rights, possessing nice, angry flows and speaking angrily of a world beyond their years. However, most of the time it seems that all Jamal and Malik have in common is their age, which often results in cliched raps. Basically the whole album is spent with threats and posturing in their verses, none too convincing. They do not hesitate to curse and do not allow their vocabulary to be limited by their ages, and they try to position themselves as more hardcore than their teenage peers. They throw shots at other teen acts like Kriss Kross and Da Youngsta's during the album. I find the production to be another problem. With young rappers, often times production makes or breaks the product. Groups like Da Youngsta's were provided with such great production that it overshadowed their young rhyming skills. Given Malik's pedigree, you might expect a little g-funk in the music, but there is absolutely none. Malik is not at home over these beats. There's an impressive producers list, including Dallas Austin, Erick Sermon, Diamond D, Lord Finesse, and Biz Markie, creating a decidedly east coast sound. Most of the time, though, you'll get the feeling these teenagers got these producers' throwaway beats. The beats are all very simple, repetitive, sparse, and often quite boring. Although they're good rappers, Malik and Jamal can't overcompensate for the too simplistic music, especially because they lack any real chemistry. "The Untold Truth" certainly has its moments, and the first few tracks are fine hip hop songs. They show great potential, but I'd much rather hear either MC on their own with production better suited to them. This album could have been a great product but wasn't pulled off too well.

The album begins with the best songs. On "Back in the Day" they reminisce about growing up over probably the nicest beat of the record. The pretty good "Illegal Will Rock" also has decent production with a nice hook, and the funkier single "Head or Gut" is probably the most memorable song. "Crumbsnatcher" is okay but fairly generic, improved slightly by a Diamond D beat and guest verse, and Erick Sermon laces "We Getz Buzy" with one of his standard upbeat, bass-heavy beat. "Stick 'Em Up" is absolutely forgettable, as is "Understand the Flow." "On da M.I.C." brings Lord Finesse to take control of a decent song, but "Ban de Iggity" and "Lights, Camera, Action" are nothing memorable. The album ends with the terrible "If U Want It," which is almost unbearable with a terrible chorus.

If you're expecting a g-funk album, look elsewhere, or if you're expecting something along the lines of Da Youngsta's, again look elsewhere. This is a sub-par album of fairly generic kiddie rap, with boring production and nothing to make it stand out. Most of it isn't terrible, but there's not a single memorable track on the disc. This isn't one I recommend for the collection.

4 out of 5 stars These little dudes could spit........2006-12-20

Def Squad affiliate Mally G and DPG affiliate Hershey Chocolate Loc Malik dropped this near classic back in 93. They were the hardcore alternative to Kriss Kross & Another Bad Creation. Some people can't get with preteens using profanity, but for those that can - This is the dopest kiddie rap act ever.

4 out of 5 stars Legalized.......2006-01-22

With much success of teen hip-hop / rap act Kris Kross, major labels were seeking other young artist to sign. Here we have Mr. Malik and Jamal also known as Illegal who's lyrics was a lot rougher and painful in comparison to their peers. The Untold Truth didn't have any restraints with it's contents as the duo challenged others acts such as Kris Kross, Da Youngsta's, Chi-Ali, Da Family for example. "Back In The Day", one of the album's classic highlights begins this album off with these 14-year old experiences that was far beyond their age over a West Coast track. Changing speeds and atmospheres, they go to a more crowd influenced track "Illegal Will Rock". Illegal proved their lyrical versatility, yet still keeping their style street on "CrumbSnatcher" featuring Diamond D. "Stick 'Em Up" and "Understand The Flow" shows a more adrenaline rush with hyper choruses and hooks for crowd involvement as they team up for that one-two swing sharing shine. The other highlight is found with the Reggae / Jamaican production by Dallas Austin on "Ban Da Iggidy" as the two attacks Das Efx style clones. The album nearly falls short of solid due to sub par production but with the help of Colin Wolfe, Diamond D. and Dallas Austin they placed a more personal touch to separate Illegal from teenage acts.

4 out of 5 stars Young rappers who were tough! .......2005-04-10

Illegal's The Untold Truth from 1993 is still a classic to this day! Unlike the more clean cut Kris Kross or ABC, these young rappers cursed. But with some tough beats to match it. They never held back on all of their album and they had some funky numbers in Head or Gut, the Erick Sermon funk of We Gets Busy, Diamond D's funky Illegal Will Rock, and Lord Finesse's On The M.I.C. and its no nonsense style. They even dissed Kris Kross and ABC on We Gets Busy! And Dallas Austin and Colin Wolfe gave them a heavy number in Back in the Day, the strong opening track. This was just as hard hitting as Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's first albums and it is hip hop in its truest form. Raw and gritty in its lyrics and music!

3 out of 5 stars Hardcore Kiddie Rap??? (3.5 Stars).......2004-10-04

After the success of Kriss Kross in 1992, record companies were putting out kiddie hip hop groups at breakneck speed. Groups like Fam Lee, Da Youngstaz, Quo, and Illegal were all released during this period. I have to admit that all of their LPs sucked with the exception of this Illegal album. And of all of the previously mentioned groups, only Kriss Kross and Da Youngstaz managed to make more than two albums. I find that odd because Illegal had the best album out of all of them. The production was on point and for them to be so young they kept it hardcore as if they had been doing this for 20 years. Illegal consisted of MCs Jamal and Malik. Jamal went on to become an underrated but tight MC on the solo tip and Malik made an appearance on a single from Monica's "Miss Thang" album (Like This And Like That) in 1995 and on Warren G's "Take A Look Over Your Shoulder" LP (What We Go Through....and that song is pretty dope)in 1997 and then disappeared again only to reappear on the underground gangsta rap circuit in Cali as the MC Hershey Locc. Malik would never put out an album on his own that was as good as this group album, but Jamal's solo LP (1995's "Last Chance, No Breaks") is pretty dope. But before all of that, there was this Illegal album. Like I said before, the beats were on point and the lyrics showed a toughness beyond their years. The production was handled by a bunch of different producers. Erick Sermon, Dallas Austin, and Diamond D produce 2 tracks apiece. The rest of the production is handled by Spearhead X, E Locc, Biz Markie & Cool V, Lord Finesse, and Colin Wolfe. Most people would remember this album for its two hit singles "Head Or Gut" and "We Getz Busy" feat. Erick Sermon.

There are some missteps on the album though. "Understand The Flow" isn't a bad song, but it's almost 5 minutes and isn't necessarily good enough to hold your attention for that long. And "On Da M.I.C." features Lord Finesse but it's still boring. But for the most part, the album is pretty good.

Overall, I wouldn't say that this album is essential rap music, but it's a pretty good album that would make a solid addition to your rap collection.

If you remember the stark, bare-bones score to Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut, then you've heard Jocelyn Pook. A British composer with edgy, avant-garde sensibilities, she nevertheless lures you into her world of sound like a Venus flytrap: pretty on the outside, dangerous once you get in. "Dionysus," the opening track on Untold Things, is a haunting Gothic-style hymn sung by Melanie Pappenheim over minor-key string cycles. On "Red Song," Russian and Tatar vocal samples mix with Verdi's "Te Deum" to create a global choral lament. "Upon This Rock" sets a Middle Eastern ululating vocal sample against a decidedly English chorale and heroic strings. On "Yellow Fever Psalm," Pappenheim's vocal is played backwards in perfect harmony against a droning string arrangement. Pook terrain is one of thwarted expectations and musical puzzle-making whose songs seduce you with their minor-key melancholy. She often works in contrasts and she's particularly enamored of mixing Middle Eastern instruments and voices in western classical settings, building her orchestrations around the melodies of vocal samples, rather than the usual ambient technique of plopping a sample into the middle of an instrumental mix. Untold Things is a challenging album with untold charms that reveal themselves on repeated listening. --John Diliberto

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Imaginative, thought provoking compositions.......2006-09-29

Whimsical, pensive and kissed by a variety of world music samples, Jocelyn Pook's style in this recording reminds me a little of Deep Forest without the programmed beats. As with all her music that I'm familiar with, the tone of "Untold Things" is minor and distinctly laid back, yet pregnant with carefully patterned intent. This isn't mindless, repetitive filler, but intelligently crafted modern chamber music tinged with elements of New Age fusion. It could perhaps do with a little more livening up now and then, as in the intense and interesting track #5, "Take Off Your Veil" and the fun, drummy "Calls, Cries and Clamours," but overall, "Untold Things" provides an intriguing and satisfying listening experience. My favorite pieces are the poignant and hypnotically complimentary #8, "Saints and Sinners" and #11, Saffron, with their mix of harmonized vocals and sampled chants over a simple but affecting piano and psaltery ostinato. Joining Pook's vocals and viola are singers Melanie Pappenheim and Parvin Cox, psaltery player and co-arranger Harvey Brough, along with her customary collection of chamber orchestra strings, select world instruments, modest programmings and assiduously documented samplings. Try also Pook's gently elegant soundtrack for "William Shakespeare's `The Merchant of Venice'" and her much darker, more eclectic album "Flood" (the soundtrack for Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut"). For more the way of artful world music fusion, you might enjoy Hans Zimmer's "Millenium" and Paul Winter's "Earthbeat" (the source of the theme song for the "Survivor" reality TV series) as well.

5 out of 5 stars Breathtaking.......2003-02-18

I've listened to this album countless times and it is still my favorite. The music and vocal virtuosity is simply breathtaking.

3 out of 5 stars unbold thing.......2002-05-17

Warning: this record is not avant-garde. Comparisons to Penderecki and even Nyman are misleading. The tracks are all quite simple and downtempo with unchallenging celt/world sonorities which call to mind a dark Enya. Pook's comments on backward singing and invented languages as if these techniques were something radical I find a bit embarrassing - added to which they don't actually create much of an impression. In fact the whole project has something of a precious feel given that it is so lacking in real boldness. That wouldn't matter if the music was as emotionally charged as some have claimed, but it isn't. There's a kind of occultish spookiness seeping through, but I can get that from Sisters Of Mercy - in a more exciting and less roundabout way. My main feeling, having bought it was, and still is, `Oh dear, I don't REALLY need yet more worldy ambient stuff, do I?'. I can't guarantee you'll feel the same but there again I can't help wondering why there is currently such a frisson around this artist.

1 out of 5 stars Untold Things.......2002-02-14

There is a song on this album called "Calls, Cries and Clamors". Well that's about the whole album. Unintelligible "Calls", Weird "Cries" with a background of "Clamor".

5 out of 5 stars SANCTUS ET BENEDICTUS.......2002-01-11

This, the 3rd CD to be issued under Jocelyn Pook's name,is business as usual.Plenty of sampling of ethnic voices amid music which was composed for various other projects.Anyone who bought her other work will not be disappointed.A first time rounder buying out of curiosity in a sale would find it hard going unless that person was already attuned to Gavin Bryars,Michael Nyman,John Tavener.People who buy the so called Popular Classics would find Britten or Penderecki hard going. Music like this deserves to be listened to.In the end its ultimately rewarding as it can lead to so much more, out there on the fringe of what is now called Classical Crossover.

this mixtape isnt really worth any more than 2 stars,i think the game is a dope artist and im probly a bit biased when writing reveiws of his ablums, and i still didnt like it much,i just couldnt get into the beats on subject matter,it seems rushed to me,keep your cash and get one of games better mixtapes,he has a whole stack of them...lol

5 out of 5 stars The best album I've ever heard.......2006-01-25

I thought this cd wouldn't be very good because after artist makes a cd as good as The Documentary they seem to have used most of their creativity. But this is the best rap album ever.

3 out of 5 stars The Game ----- The Untold Story, Part 2.......2006-01-09

If The Game is rap's self proclaimed MVP for 2005, Then JT The Bigga Figga could be a candidate for raps 2005 Executive of the Year. Every couple of months JT puts out some old Game material that apparently, he has the rights to, then those records go on to sell a lot of copies with minimal expense to JT. You can't really knock that, unless of course, it's your material that he's selling. In just a few months JT has released two albums by one of Hip-Hops biggest superstars. The second of JT's series, Untold Story Volume II (Fastlife), featuring The Game seems to have made no improvements upon where Volume I left off.

Untold Story Vol. II is clearly more of a JT project than a Game project. A lot of the vocals were recorded by The Game years ago when he was still in the early stages of his career. But even then, The Game displayed the realness that makes him one of Hip-Hop's biggest stars on songs like "Just Beginning", where he airs out his father over some smooth guitar licks, for some of the things his father did to his family while he was growing up. Another song that true Game fans can appreciate is "Truth Rap" where he speaks about life in the ghetto in a way that only a few can when he spits "Nobody knows there neighbors name/ unless they sell weed or cocaine/a lot of black clouds on a block with no rain/The game got a lot to say/ so they wanna take me down in my own front yard like Marvin Gaye." But outside of a few other decent tracks from The Game himself including "Business Never Personal" - "Real Live on blocks, if we aint pushin the rocks, we movin the stocks", Volume II suffers from mediocre production and a lack of creative direction mainly because the star of the show had NO input in the creative process.

It's unclear how much of The Game's material JT has left in his vault but what is clear after listening to this album is that he's probably getting pretty low on his stash, which means that pretty soon JT is gonna have to come up with a new hustle for 2006. Untold Story Vol. II has a similar feel to a recent posthumous Tupac album where the lyrics seem a little outdated and a little too familiar (heard some of these verses on the last album) and the production and the M.C. just aren't on the same page and don't compliment each other at all. Now, while Tupac can get away with that, the same thing can not be said at this point for JT The Bigga Figga or The Game.

5 out of 5 stars Good Listen.......2005-10-26

This cd is pretty good even though JT just wants to make money off The Game. This album is better then the first Untold Story but just slightly under The Documentary. Favorite songs are Walk Thru The Sky,Born And Raised In Compton, and Game Get Live. I recommend that Game fans buy this album and if you want to hear a little of the Westcoast then this cd is for you.

5 out of 5 stars Good CD.......2005-10-26

The Game is one of the best to come out of the westcoast in a long time. This cd is not what you think it is, it does not have the beats that his true debut The Documentary has but the lyrics are a little better on this cd but most people will say other wise but this is my opinion. I recommend that hardcore Game fans buy this cd and people who like underground cds.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I haven't heard this yet, but..........2006-03-21

...I'm giving it 5 Stars because of my love for the Quick's one released album, MONDO DECO, which I bought back in college in 1977/78! As the other reviewer here points out, they are quite reminiscent of early Sparks, circa their L.A. band...and, in fact, Sparks' original guitar player Earle Mankey produced their Mercury album. I've heard short snippets of the versions recorded on this cd, and I couldn't figure out their origin, as they were definitely NOT the versions on their official album. These, being demos, have a more natural, "present in the room" feel, like a live recording. The Mankey-produced album is much more "produced," and there is no sign of a Cheap Trick similarity on that record: it's Sparks-influenced all the way. What saved it from being a mere copy, a second-rate imitation, were the fine musicianship and TERRIFIC songs the Quick wrote, (I think they were all the product of their guitar-player, whose name I forget at the moment).

I wonder how many fans of the Rembrandts' theme song for FRIENDS would go running from the room if they heard the Quick..."ooh, too weird! ooh, his voice is so high!" I have rarely met a Sparks fan in my time, and I've never met anyone else who had ever heard of the Quick, much less heard them. (I was in Florida when I got their record.)

Anyway, I am delighted this item of forgotten pop history has been released, and I regret that MONDO DECO itself has not itself been rereleased. I'll have to dig out my vinyl copy sometime.

Being from the LA area, and as a longtime fan of punk rock, I've always loved the early LA groups like The Plugz, Germs, Dils, Zeros, et al. One thing that many of these bands had in common was the Quick as a musical influence. Along with influencing such bands, The Quick would share the bill with some of them at clubs like the Starwood once the punk thing was in full swing. The Dickies were good friends with, and apparently, roadies for the Quick and eventually recorded an excellent cover of "Pretty Please". I'd read about the group in old Slash and Flipside articles and even heard a few of their tunes on my local 3-Watt college radio station (KUCI) as a kid. Yet, the Quick remained something of an enigma to me until I thankfully stumbled onto this CD.

For years, I tried to obtain a copy of the Quick's extremely obscure Mercury LP "Mondo Deco". For years, I waited patiently for a compilation of demo's, live tracks; anything! Unfortunately, nothing surfaced. Nothing, that is, until now.

Musically, The Quick bear more than a passing resemblance to early Sparks, whom they cite as an initial influence. I'd say, however, that the group sounds most like vintage Cheap Trick. Both bands specialized in quirky, Move-influenced powerpop. Both bands were blessed with humorous, intellegent and inventive songwriter/guitarists. Even Quick vocalist Danny Wilde (now a Rembrandt) could pass for Robin Zander's ever-so-slightly less gifted (vocally, that is) little brother. And, as big of a Cheap Trick fan that I am, I'd say that songs like "No No Girl", "My Purgatory Years", "Hillary" and "Pretty Please" are as good as, if not better than, anything C.T. ever recorded. HERESY! you say. Well, just listen to this CD and decide for yourself.

These Demo recordings faithfully capture what The Quick must have sounded like live. No digital multitracking, Pro Tools plastic surgery here. Just "set up a few mikes and let the tape roll". I've always felt that this is the best way of capturing the raw excitement and immediacy of rock and roll. This collection's two live tracks do, in fact, sound as if they could have come from the demo sessions.

If you love powerpop, punk, glam, 60's groups like The Move, Who, and Small Faces- Hell, if you like great music, period- pick up this CD and do it (ahem) Quick. You will not be dissapointed! Now, if only Rev-Ola would reissue "Mondo Deco" and any other goodies that might still be floating around out there.

I recently had the opportunity to see Evelyn Glennie perform Veni, Veni, Emmanuel with my local symphony orchestra. I was, to put it mildly, flabbergasted. The piece requires equal parts musician and track star, as Ms. Glennie ran all over the stage playing various percussion instruments. My awe of the performance was compounded by Ms. Glennie's deafness. As I listened to the intricate part work, I spent more time marveling at Ms. Glennie's feat (and feet) than I did paying attention to the music itself. This disc let me hear what I missed. The music is intense, beautiful and moving. As a bonus for me, this disc allowed me to hear several other works by MacMillan, all of which are worth hearing.

The harmonies of this successful '80s bluegrass outfit--named after the secret ingredient in Martha White's self-rising flour--were simply stunning. Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Tim O'Brien sang with utterly pure high tenor, while Nick Forster and Pete Wernick gave the group a powerful three part vocal punch. O'Brien and Forster's literate compositions are set beside standards by the Carter Family and the Delmore Brothers, and the band's reading of Hazel Dickens's "Won't You Come & Sing for Me" is exquisite. Session workhorse Jerry Douglas sits in on Dobro. --Roy Francis Kasten

    5 out of 5 stars Gone But Not Forgotten . . ........2001-02-26

. . . "Untold Stories" represented the high water mark for one of the most popular bluegrass acts of the 1980's. Led by triple-threat front man Tim O'Brien, Hot Rize appealed to both traditional and progressive audiences, combining wonderful material and vocal harmony with the hot picking of O'Brien, banjo whiz Pete Wernick, and the late Charles Sawtelle, whose deep tone and unique guitar phrasing brought smiles to most everyone who ever heard him. My personal favorites on this effort are the title song (which was a hit for country star Kathy Matea), "Just Like You", and "Here Today and Gone Tommorrow", a jaunty reading of an old Delmore Brothers tune - but this is a strong outing by a terrific band at the height of its powers.

      Album Description

The origin of the word "pioneer" derives from the Frech word pion or "foot soldier," a soldier whose task it was to prepare the way for the main body of troops marching into a new area. In the most literal sense of the word Robert Davis Jr. a.k.a. "DJ Screw" was a true hip hop pioneer. Davis was and is the grand master of "Screwed & Chopped" music, a technique of slowing the pace of music to almost an obscure drag personifying the underground lifestyle of the Houston streets that made him famous. With a small army of MCs known as the Screwed Up Click or S.U.C., Screw began a mix-tape movement that would one day take the music industry by storm.

Unfortunately, DJ Screw would not live to see his army which once only enjoyed celebrity status in Houston's underground and hailed as "platinum in the streets" now reaping the benefits of global sales becoming "platinum in the charts." DJ Screw has left legacy from what was once a cult following to the mainstream embrace of his sound that has launched several careers and arguably one of the biggest movements in hip hop.

DJ Screw: Untold Story tells the story of Robert Davis before the phenomenon and before the fame from the people who were there. This DVD also contains never-before seen footage of the one man who gave Houston its sound indentity, at work and at play as well as interviews with the original members of the S.U.C., Davis' family members and others whose careers are influenced by his music.

      5 out of 5 stars Game Untold.......2005-07-30

For some reason the review above says "34 Reasons" and this aint that album...Other than that if you a big Mr.Kee fan or a Bay Area and Texas connect fan then this the album you looking for. It got that Texas to the Bay feel with a Latin twist. Many Latin hard hitters like Mr. Kee, 10sion, Gemini, Baby Bash and Grimm. Even "GoldToes" Julio puts it down! Begining to end no joke!

      4 out of 5 stars Raw Rap.......2004-12-09

34 Reasons: Surviving the Game is purely raw. 34 Reasons is a double disk collaboration produced by Goldtones Entertainment. A collaboration of rap artist "from the Golden Gate to the Lone Star State," as phrased on the cd's cover.

Beat-wise, 34 Reasons keeps it clean and simple. 34 Reasons creates a calming vibe to bump to, but it also carries plenty of hype.

Featured in this collaboration is a familiar artist that goes by the name Baby Bash. Baby Bash has two tracks on the second disc, "City of Dank" and "Sideshow." Baby Bash's "City of Dank" creates an image in the mind of what it is to be coming from the streets of California with a thug mentality. It's not negative, but it's not very positive either, it's simply a realistic look at how things are.

A few other artist worth honorable mentions are Andre Nickatina, Cougnut, and Mr. Kee, who is featured on four tracks.

34 Reasons is a loaded book, with 18 tracks on the first disc and 20 on the second. Listening to 34 Reasons definitely fills time. In the name of 'gangster rap' this collaboration meets quality from track to track.
