2 out of 5 stars JF's best? I've lost sense of it all........2007-04-21

"What I saw" written about the album was quite different form what I heard. Having listened to the album several times I can't figure out what it is that distinguishes JF's album from any talented school-rock-band. The harmonic surprises seem to be limited to a major-minor change and the all-to true statement "and then foresight comes / I've lost sense of it all" in what ought to be the album's title song "Emptiness".
Please! No more Puff-the-magic-dragon lines "I see clouds laughing again" and more original ideas "accidents have come straight to you / and you've changed your point of view".

5 out of 5 stars Frusciante does it again.......2007-03-24

This was the fifth John Frusciante album that I got and I must say it was definitely not a disappointment. He goes for a much harder rocking sound than he usually does, and it works really well. It was just another example of how he heads in a different direction with each album but it's still the signature Frusciante style. The ten tracks are incredible, and I would honestly buy this CD just for the song Look On. Amazing guitar solo. You should definitely get this album!

1 out of 5 stars What's all the hype about?.......2007-01-22

I'm a big fan of JF, but obviously not obsessed. I really didn't get much from this album. If you have listened to other Frusciante albums and are worried about the singing in this one too, well you should be. I can't get used to bad singing, maybe it's just me. Unfortunately, JF needs studio polishing when it comes to singing.

If you're searching for some Frusciante to get started on, try Shadows Collide with People, one of the best albums I've listened to period. It's night and day with his other works (that I've listened to) including this one. Shadows' 5 stars are justified, not so sure about Inside of Emptiness.

5 out of 5 stars The best work of my favorite solo artist........2006-12-13

Everytime I hear it I love it more & I connect with it more.
This was the first record I bought from John Frusciante after stumbling upon a jam session he had done with Omar from Mars Volta. I quickly remembered how much I admired John Frusciante's playing on RHCPs work while not caring for the band itself as of late (don't get me wrong they play great, they are just irrelevant to me at this time).
This album blew me away & I downloaded more to dig deeper. This of course had me hooked so I ditched the pirate booty & bought every record he made. Each I love & has it's own charms and styles, but this still is my favorite.
While I recomend everyone to check them all out. If this is your 1st John Frusciante record purchase this is a perfect start to a new addiction.

5 out of 5 stars This is a call to all RHCP fans - GET THIS ALBUM!!!.......2006-09-26

This is my favourite release out of the set of '6' and second only to 'Shadows Collide With People' in the John Frusciante catalogue. This album rocks harder than anything John has done previously and is a great starting point for fans of the Red Hot Chili Peppers who would like to get to know Johns works.
Every song on here rocks, this record is the best example of great guitar playing I can think of. John's good buddy Josh Klinghoffer plays drums and bass while John does what he does best, plays guitar and sings. And he sings very well on this album.
Lyrically, it is poetic, raw and honest and describes Johns life post Red Hot Chili Peppers.
My favourite tracks on here are 'What I Saw' which is the perfect opening track for any album and I reckon this song would sound great live.
'The Worlds Edge', a little slower but just as powerful.
'Inside a Break' and 'A Firm Kick' - classic radio friendly songs.
'Look On', my fave all time John Frusciante song. Lyrically and musically it is outstanding and features a brilliant guitar solo. At just over 6mins, this song should probably have closed the album as it will leave you breathless and in awe.
But 'Scratches', the album closer is just as good. The quitest track on the record, Johns voice sounds great and it is very melodic.
This is the only John Frusciante album readily available in record stores in Australia, and hopefully people curious enough will pick it up and purchase it as I believe anyone who is interested in rock music should listen to this and make up their own minds.
If only more artists would explore their souls as John Frusciante has, the world would be a better place.
