Though it's admittedly kind of cheesy in spots, this is still a classic jam band album! You'll have lots of fun with it........2006-01-06
O.A.R. is kind of a cheesy jam band (their lyrics are usually pretty bad), but they still deliver some quality tunes. Every track here is fun to listen to, and in the end that's essentially the most important thing. What's great about this album, specifically, is that the production is great - everything is crystal clear even on a low-quality sound file. Marc Roberge also does a pretty good job with the vocals. Musically it's pretty standard jam band material, but every track is catchy with a great hook. If you love jam bands chances are you'll love O.A.R.'s "In Between Now & Then". "Hey Girl" and "James" are definitely GREAT tunes which definitely bumps it up to a "5" from a "4.5". All the pros definitely far outweigh what cons there are here (which aren't many). Highly recommended!
Highlights include:
the entire album!
Terrific.......2005-09-23
This album is terrific. The new "Hey Girl" version is soooo great. "Old Man Time" is also a good song. Basically, you'll like every song on this cd. I bought this album 1-2 years ago, when I realized that it came out, and I didn't have it. I'm a BIG O.A.R. fan. Mark's vocals in this are incredible. Anyone will like O.A.R. Jeez, I wish I could play Hey Girl on the acoustic guitar, since I'm a big fan, and I own a special Fender Telecaster that I want to sell because I want a Les Paul. If you possibly want to buy it, my e-mail is [...] My Telecaster isn't any normal black and white one.
You Can't Help But Like This Band!.......2005-04-23
The first song I ever heard by these guys was Right On Time actually on the radio driving to Maine. I then bought In Between Now & Then and was hooked. I then furthered my habit purchasing 34th & 8th, moving on to Any Time Now and Souls Aflame. This band has a solid and distinctly unique sound. I actually saw them tonight in concert in Kingston, PA and they are even more unbelievable live. A new song titled "5250" has an incredible melody to it. If you can put in one of their CDs and not have the urge to either sing along or at a minimum tap a finger or foot, you are melodically challenged.
Great Band.......2005-01-03
This was the first o.a.r. cd that I bought. It is a great CD, but if you want something incredible, get Any Time Now or another live recording. If you like them, you've really got to see them live, their live stuff is incredible.
More Addictive than Nicotine.......2004-08-21
I just love this band's sound. It gets trapped in your brain and leaves you wanting more and more...the rare times when I'm not listening to OAR, I'm humming their songs in my head. Beautiful. Timeless. Classic. Reminds me of old DMB meets old BNL (think Rock Spectacle) mixed with a touch of Sublime.

Brilliant in It's Like Ability!!.......2007-06-30
O.A.R. "In Between Now & Then" is brilliant in it's like ability! First, I give it a 4.5 Stars not a 5, but what I am not going to do is give it a 4 because a 4 it is not. There are so many many types of music, from 4 to 5 there are worlds to be explored, I wish there was 10/10 between 4 and 5 because in reality there are layers upon layers, 3 dimensional densities, flavors, range of emotions between 4 and 5. I know one thing: anything from 4 on up I am very interested at least on checking it out if not necessarily buying it. Too many nears and misses have taken a toll on my wallet. I don't mind being short if the music is beatiful, for an album will rescue me when money perhaps no! That said, O.A.R. "In Between Now & Then" is just the kind of album I furiously seek to own. Not one song in this album lacks originality, "taste ability" (again, I am not planning on eating it, just an expression from my stoner days) very tight upbeat kind of album. These guys are deceptively good! Today I heard them for the first time and I am bought and paid for, each song held something special for me. Am I being too emotional? Perhaps. After being burned several times in the pocketbood while buying duds and mismatches it does feel good to have a solid winner in the house. Do not know about their previous albums and to be honest at this point I do not want to purchase another O.A.R album for a while, I am in no rush. A great album, not a perfect 5 buy dangerously so! 4.5 for O.A.R.!
Great CD and a "must have" for any O.A.R. fan.......2007-05-28
I have been a fan of O.A.R for awhile and nearly fell off my chair the first time I heard them being played on mainstream radio. I was like, "It's about time these gents get recognized!" If you are a seasoned fan it is likely that you already have this CD. If you are a new fan this is worth purchasing because it's every bit as good as their more recent CDs. Plus it also includes a bonus DVD concert disk in addition to the CD.
one of my favorite cds of all time.......2006-04-13
everytime i look for some good music, just to chill or when im with friends, i always seem to pull out in between now and then by o.a.r. now the obvious question is why? this cd took just a few days to grow on me. first i was just listening to hey girl, james, and dareh meyod (b.t.w. one of the best oar songs ever with a cool reggae beat). then other songs grew on me like mr. moon, risen, coalminer, right on time and soon i was listening to every song on this cd everday on my busride to school in the morning.
now not only are these songs amazing but they are dangerously addictive. each song is unique in its own way, yet, similar to all the other oar songs making you want to hear the songs again and again. from the cool raggae tune in "dareh meyod" along with the "darling" and "babys" to risens awesome sax and "wouldnt it be the best damn day if we all took time to breathe." dont forget the cool intro and rocking chorus to "right on time." then, the cool guitar and somewhat haunting lyrics of mr moon then the classic song that all oar fans know hey girl. James is pretty much a ballad that is pretty addictive with a sad/depressing chorus. And finally to the cool story and chorus in coalminer. old man time was my least favorite song on this cd. the other songs, Anyway, Road Outside Columbus, Any Time Now, Whose Chariot are good quality songs that are deffidently worth listening to except they are overshadowed by the other amazing songs on this cd.
if your just getting into oar this is deffidently the cd to go to only give it a few days to let it grow on you and you wont regret it. this was the first oar cd i got and i STILL listen to it all the time. the addicting beats, vocals, and lyrics keep you listening to the cd for months to come. bottom line: get this cd, all the songs are amazing, they are catchy, give it a little while to grow on you, then engoy this classic cd from oar
In Between Then & Now.......2005-07-20
I know that it has been a long time between the release of this album and this review; however, I feel more compelled than ever to share my views on this amazing album by one of the most talented, original, and moving bands you will ever come across. I bought this CD a long time ago and I can't stop listening to it. It has a song for any mood that you are in, but you feel the desire to listen to every song regardless of how you feel. There is something so infectious about the music without being annoying or seeming to be too structured or calculated. The music just seems natural and spontaneous no matter how many times you listen to it. My favorite tracks are Risen, Right On Time, Hey Girl, Anyway, and Who's Chariot, but it was hard to narrow it down even that much. I encourage everyone to also look into some of their other albums because they are great too, especially 34th and 8th.
great.......2004-11-18
This album is great. My favs include Risen, Right on Time, and Hey Girl. This CD is a must have for OAR fans

Customer Reviews:
An AntiWar Masterpiece.......2002-08-26
Tippett and Britten were composers who, though very different in temperment and style, had many interests in common. One of the overiding concerns with both composers was the moral response to war and it's horrors. For Britten, the War Requiem and Owen Wingrave are his very clear moral response to war. Tippet, in his fashion is much more psychological in this work, which must rank as one of Tippett's best and most powerful operatic statements.
King Priam is a dramatic tour de force. Based on the Illiad as seen through the eyes of the Trojans, the work is a meditation on the inevitability of fate in mass movements like war. Priam, though illdisposed to the war, is unable to stop or control it as it takes both of his sons, his kingdom and then finally his own life. He emerges as a figure of moral power and grandeur, but ultimately as impotent and tragic. This libretto is one of Tippett's best and most clear statements.
Musically, Priam is a powerhouse, inaugurating Tippett's second major style. Priam is constructed in a mosaic style. Small chamber groups of instruments with defined musical content are assigned to characters. As the work develops, these small groups combine and recombine in a shifting maze of patterns that seems to endlessly reinvent itself. The music starts out as largely tonal, but the tonality breaks down as Fate takes over and dooms the Trojans. The work is never serial, but it takes an almost Bergian view of tonality, sometimes more and sometimes less tonal as the dramatic situation warrants. The vocal lines are mostly declaimed, but with moments of lyricism that are unfogettable, such as Priam's first aria, A Father and a King, or the beautiful scene between Priam and Achilles in the third act. And Achilles war cry at the end of act two is bone chilling!
This is a great performance of this piece. Many of the singers originated the roles and sing them with power and authority. Phillip Langridge is terrific as Paris. Robert Tear is a marvelous Achilles. David Aetherton conducts this difficult score with precision and a fine ear for balances.
This is a profound opera by a major 20th century composer. If you like Britten, you should own this as well. It is increasingly looking like Tippett's masterpiece.
Visceral power & beauty coupled with stunning performances!!.......2001-06-13
I bought this on a whim, having heard only the slightest bit of Tippett's orchestral music and none of his operas. I expected the music to be "difficult," and the performances stilted, but I was oh so wrong! Yes, this is definitely late 20th century music -- often dissonant and atonal, but it is utterly beautiful, emotionally moving music. I'm a huge fan of Britten's operas, and judge all modern opera composers by his standards, and (pardon my gushing) Sir Michael is more than up to the challenge. First of all, he takes on the daunting task of adapting the Iliad into a opera libretto and manages to compress the drama beautifully into 3 acts that tell the story imaginatively, comprehensively and in a wholly theatrical manner. Second, he uses the music to heighten the sense of character by giving each persona a unique style of vocal line and orchestration (yes, this is what all composers do, or try to do, but Tippett succeeds in a way few others do). Several of the characters are accompanied by solo instruments (bravura parts of concerto-like difficulty performed brilliantly) -- Achilles by solo guitar, Helen by solo cello, King Priam by violin, etc. Three characters form a sort of Greek chorus who comment on the action and bring a sense of questioning morality to the whole.
All of the solo singers are astutely cast and sing with amazing power. Standouts (difficult to single out any of them, they're all so brilliant): Phillip Langridge is first-rate as Paris, Priam's second son -- he sings with enormous power and pathos at the same time. Felicity Palmer is velvety sex personified as Helen. Norman Bailey as Priam has a raw edginess to his sound, which lends such a sense of reality to a man pushed to the edge by fate and his warring sons. The London Philharmonia gives a virtuoso performance, led sensitively and intelligently by David Atherton. The digital sound is crystal clear and beautifully engineered: the sound couldn't be better live at the Met! Take a chance on this one, and enter into an operatic world you will never forget.
One of the best and most easily grasped of modern operas.......1999-02-27
Contemporary opera was never the same after King Priam, a suitable irony given that the Opera is perhaps the most easily grasped by the listening public of the 5 Tippett Operas. Even so, the "crisis of King Prian" stylistically and emotionally is the germ-seed for the eccentrism yet to come in "The Knot Garden", "The Ice Break", and "New Year". Tippett's theme is the futility of choice and the nature of the impact of choice on humanity in the micro-sphere of the individual and the macro-sphere of the community and history. Tippett's unusual yet perfectly conceived recasting of the Iliad from the Trojan persepctive does more than summarize plot, but pauses to comment on the universal human potential implicit therein. A must-buy for Tippett fans and for anyone who likes opera, Greek Mythology, classical music, or a good story.
