Product Description
Seattle's Pedro The Lion (aka David Bazan) delivers Control, the band's third full-length album. This time around, Bazan has recruited the help of Seldom's Casey Foubert to share the burden, resulting in a collection of songs which play darker, fuller and sometimes much heavier than any of the previous releases. 2002.

It's hard to believe that Stephen Marley is only now making his solo debut. But as the brains (producer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, singer) of the family who has been behind the Grammy-winning careers of the Melody Makers and Damian Marley, as well as young brothers Kymani and Julian, he hasn't been slacking off or lost in a haze of ganja. Perhaps too acutely aware of the magnitude of this record, Marley finished it once, then scrapped several songs and started anew. The results this time reveal an artist who is in complete control of his medium: Some songs have a political edge; some are societal critiques; some are lullabies to his children; some are party anthems. The sound brings in such unlikely but satisfying elements as flamenco guitar and nyabinghi rhythms. Throw in guest spots from Mos Def, Ben Harper, his brothers and others, and Mind Control truly does sound like the work of a master craftsman able to weave all these different ideas into one cohesive whole. --Tad Hendrickson

Album Description

A member of the celebrated Marley sibling group The Melody Makers since the age of seven, the 5 time Grammy Award winning producer, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist is stepping center stage for the first time. Mind Control is all Stephen and a cornucopia of the sounds and styles that he loves: a blend of reggae, rock, R&B, nyabinghi rhythms, flamenco and hip-hop. It's an album with the grit and flavor to rock old-school Kingston sound systems and slippery, waxed Miami Range Rovers alike. Featured cameos from Damian"Jr. Gong" Marley, Julian Marley, Mos Def, Ben Harper, Mr. Cheeks and Spragga Benz.

3 out of 5 stars It's ok.......2007-07-02

This album have some good music, but it's not what I was waiting for. Hoping one day, they'll (Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers) start making music like they used to and return to be once again one of the best reggae band.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Album.......2007-06-20

I LOVE this album!! Coming from a Caribbean Country (Belize), and being a huge fan of reggae music, it is always nice to find new songs to listen too. This album is so refreshing...it has old style reggae mixed in with all other genres of music. It is just fantastic!!!!!!!! His concert was also amazing. I recommend this album to anyone who is a reggae music fan!

5 out of 5 stars Marley Magic Once Again.......2007-06-11

This is probably one of the greatest compilations of music to come out of the Marley camp--and there are a LOT! This is a remarkable body of ambitious work for Stephen's debut as an artist--having produced much of his brothers' work in the past--including the Grammy-Award winning album from Damian "Halfway Tree". He definitely has his father's eye for organization as well as playing and singing music. One of the best tracks (and for me it is hard to choose--"Inna di Red", the title cut "Mind Control" and "Iron Bars" being on the top of my list) is "Traffic Jam" featuring none other than Damian Marley (I can't get enough of him). Also featured on the album is brother Julian Marley. Buy it! You won't regret it! Genius does run in this family!

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2007-06-05

I expected this album to be much better after waiting for over a year for it to be released, following the release of the single "Hey Baby". It is a solid effort but just not "outstanding". I think both of Kymani Marley's albums are better buys. The remix of "Hey Baby" is pretty good, and Mos Def makes a nice guest appearance on that track.

It's flatly unfair that the Gossip aren't a massive success, a rocknroll giant slayer, especially as they unleash another 10-song, 30-minute zinger like Standing in the Way of Control. Singer Beth Ditto's boundless, whether shouting out the title song's chorus or feather-dusting the lyric on Meg White-sounding album closer, "Dark Lines." The band rocks with an unerring simplicity, a leanness that writhes. The big-beat, hop-along (and sing-along) "Listen Up," is the centerpiece here, a stripped focus on the Gossip's core conviction, that rhythm can rock like little else. The tune has Ditto holding court over a bluntly simple one-two beat, cautioning a crowd that by rights ought to be tenfold larger: "now gather round/now listen up," warning them that "some people talk way too much." As Ditto stuns, drummer Hannah Blilie's beat pounds, and Brace Paine's guitar lays down a simple law. Ignorance of that law is no excuse. --Andrew Bartlett

Album Description

Gossip have returned two years after their last release with a new drummer and a slightly new sound. Described as everything from dance-punk to "Pointer Sisters without synths", this is a preview of their upcoming album, coming out in January. "Standing In The Way Of Control" comes backed with a stellar remix by Le Tigre, with art by Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth.

This cd by the Gossip is one of those rare ones that you let play all the way through and then start it over again. Very distinct vocals from Beth Ditto and very good music. My personal favorite tracks are the title cut and HOLY WATER.

3 out of 5 stars Good singer but..........2007-03-23

OK so this is one of the big things in the NME at the moment. It is not that bad but also not that great. The singing is really very very good but the music is little mroe than unoriginal derivative new wave. As I write the singer has a lot of potential but the rest is not that great.

5 out of 5 stars Gossip are lethal.......2007-02-05

Hi Guys

I have to say i disagree with the above-mentioned reviews. I haven't felt the same way about a band since i was going through a large White Stripes phase some years ago.

This band are very similar to the Whites Stripes in that they have that stripped down, bedroom sounding production similar to Elephant. They also have the same type of bluesey guitar licks. The vocals are absolutely tremendous, bringing a soul voice to a rock band, although if she went on American Idol they would slate her.

It is of course the songs themselves that cement this record. Every song is a stone cold hit. The chorus of "coal to diamonds" has so much emotion it makes me feel nauseous.

The only downside is that the chorus of "Keeping you Alive" sounds slightly tacked on, even though it makes the main riff of that song sound cooler.

It is also worth noting that this band are hot enough to have tracks remixed by Belgian rock/dance crossover Soulwax and Le Tigre.

If these guys really float your boat it is worth checking out The Invisible Deck the Rogers Sisters.

"Free at last / Out here on my own," Janet Jackson sings on the title track of her 1986 blockbuster, Control, an album about personal liberation, romantic longing, and, of all things, sexual responsibility. After two albums of middling dance-pop that were comfortably in the Jackson family mold, Janet dropped in on the burgeoning Minneapolis funk factory of producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and came up with five top 10 hits, including the opening triad of "Control," "Nasty," and "What Have You Done for Me Lately," as well as the yearning "When I Think of You" and "Let's Wait Awhile," that rare song (considering some of Janet's hits to come) about not having sex. In its own way, Control is the most convincing declaration of artistic independence since Stevie Wonder's "Music of My Mind." --Daniel Durchholz

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Super Good!.......2007-07-20

Amazing album! Cd has a little bit of something for everyone. Topical and diverse. Pop music classic.

5 out of 5 stars A sublime album .......2007-03-13

Who cares what Janet Jackson did before this album, none of it was important. This was, as far as I am concerned, one of the finest non-Classical albums of the 1980s. It contains music I can still listen to and still feel excited about it. "Control", "Nasty Boys", "What have you done for me lately?" and "When I think of you" were amongst the best songs Janet Jackson and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (her producers and musicians on this album) ever released. Most of what Janet Jackson has done since seems very ho-hum to me - in "Control", she was a singer fronting a group of musicians - in later albums, she was a singer first and the instrumental music was incidental.

Control has to be heard and experienced through a good sound system. It needs to be considered in relation to what was around at the time. It needs to be danced to.

This music was "cutting edge" at the time and, considering how we've retrogressed, it is even more potent now.

One of masterpieces of Jam and Lewis.

4 out of 5 stars Strong rhythmic funk production and nice ballads.......2007-02-16

My friends and I loved Janet Jackson's Control album when we were in high school in 1986-87. It contained 10 songs, 7 of which ended up charting on the American pop and dance charts, and was spectacularly successful in promoting Janet into the top league of international popular music. The strengths here were the strong rhythmic funk productions from Jam & Lewis, and the forthright lyrics and independent attitude adopted by Janet on this breakthrough disc. Check it out if you like pop/dance stuff and haven't listened to Janet's older albums from the 80's

Best songs :
Control - The key song on the album, it represented Janet Jackson's emancipation from her past as a child star and set her up as an independent, confident entertainer in her own right
When I Think Of You - fun , light dance/pop workout song hit US #1
What Have You Done For Me Lately - funky song dissing someone
Let's Wait Awhile - responsible teen romance song with lovely melody
The Pleasure Principle - dance song , the 12" remix of this was really good, I remember
Funny How Time Flies - nice languid ballad shows off Janet's breathy voice well
You Can Be Mine is good too.

I'll give it 4.5 stars, though I reckon 1989's Rhythm Nation 1814 and 1993's Janet albums are both even better.

5 out of 5 stars She's In Control!.......2007-01-13

"Control" is actually Janet's third album, her first two, epnymous "Janet Jackson" from 1982 and "Dream Street" from 1984 were lacklusters before she had found her personality and her music started to sound like we know it. "Control" from 1986 would be the first worthwile Janet album and she would become a superstar over a night and not just Michael's babysister. Her attitude had changed on this album, and we'll see a tougher Janet that both is capable of Dance-pop numbers and slow jamz. Another big reason is that the material is also better here, Janet never had the strongest voice but the up and coming producers Terry Lewis/Jimmy "Jam" Harris would make the best of her and write/produce some of the finest songs of the time. 20 years later they are still her main producers and when you think of them, you'll also think of Janet. Janet serves as a female counterpart to her brother, few female artists could dance as well as Janet and her attitude was tougher then any other female R&B singer in 1986 aswell. "Control" would also have loads of top singles, out of 9 songs 6 were released as singles in US, and a few reached the top 5, "When I Think Of You" would even reach the top of the Billboard charts.

Most songs here are uptempos and that's what Janet is best at. "Control" is one of her finest songs, and gives further proof to the new grown up, emancipated Janet, The video of "Control" is almost as long as Michaels's longest videos and serves as a little film where Janet wants to have the control of her own life and choises. An uptempo and choreographic masterpiece part of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis plans to make the best of an so far under-apreciated artist. The song reached #5 on the bilboard. On "Nasty" she sais that she don't want Nasty boys, instead she want to be treated well. This is another dance-pop song with great choreography, even Paula Abdul appears in the video. It reached #3 on the charts. Next song "What Have You Done For Me Lately" follows the same trend as the other two and was also a big hit reaching #4. It's remarkable cause it was Janet's breakthrough single. Paula also appears in the video, she would be a huge star herself 2 years later!. "You Can Be Mine" is a midtempo, and one of few songs not to be a single. However the song is good nonetheless.

"The Pleasure Principle" is another cathcy uptempo and is one of only two songs on this album that wasn't penned by Lewis/Jam (It was written by Monte Moir from The Time). It was only a top 20 song but a great song just the same, but with all big hits of this album it's easy to get a little overshadowed. "When I Think of You" reached number #1 and is another dance number, but not as rhythm driven as the others and in slower pace. "He Doesn't Know I'm Alive" a ballad written by Spencer Bernard, put not a single and not one of the best. "Let's Wait Awhile" finds Janet singing a slow jam about waiting before making love, quite strange if you listen to later albums?. The song made it to the second position on the charts. It's perhaps her best slow jam with a truly romantic message. "Funny How Time Flies (When You're Having Fun)" is the closer and is another ballad but neither one of this album's best songs.

Overall, Probably Janet's best album and the start of her long and successful career as we know it today. 6/9 songs here are famous and some are also among her best. "Control" is an excellent album and the first I would recommend if you want to take a look at older Janet albums, It also won loads of awards making it one of the years most successful albums. An 80's classic without a doubt.

5 out of 5 stars 20 Y.O. what's that?.......2007-01-08

THIS is what that new album was celebrating. The 20th anniversary of Control. This album is janet's landmark album that took her to great heights and made her the second biggest jackson superstar. Not only that, but it also set a blueprint for dance/r&b divas from then on: Jody Watley, Karyn White, Paula Abdul, Debbie Gibson, Mary J.Blige, TLC, SWV, Aaliyah, Mya, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Beyonce, Ciara, Cassie and a list that is going to continue to get longer. As janet said at the recent Billboard Awards performance "it's all about control, and I STILL got lots of it!" damn right janet!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-07-09

Excellent CD. Doreen has a very soothing voice spoken in a relaxed manner. The soft music in the background enhances the relaxed mood without becoming a focus in itself. The script she uses is concise enough to provide adequate guidance yet open-ended enough to make listining to it a very personal experience which can be listened to again and again as if it were the first time.

5 out of 5 stars Try high quality speakers.......2007-07-08

I bought this cd along with several others. After awhile this has become my favorite. It's not the words or imagery, and this might sound wierd.
I tried it out recently on a higher quality system with expensive speakers. It may just be me, but it has the effect of percodan or loritab (pain medication).
Something about her voice, on the high end speakers multiplies the effect of relaxing me, even as I'm sitting up with eyes open. On my $100 stereo it's nothing special although still my favorite.

2 out of 5 stars didn't like so don't listen to it.......2006-11-09

should have been as good as the others i got.

5 out of 5 stars It just plain works!!.......2006-10-07

This CD is a strange mix of things -- from a guided imagery trip to a tale about a boy building a wall. Whatever. The bottom line is that it puts me to sleep almost every time. I can't remember the last time I heard the CD to the end. Maybe only twice out of 60 playings.

I can still have problems staying asleep (insomnia and mild sleep apnea) but that's another issue.

My wife has a bunch of Wendi Freisen CDs which absolutely do not work for me. Where Wendi's voice grates and annoys, Doreen's voice is, "like buttah".

Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet sleep!.......2006-08-25

I bought this for my husband to help with his relaxation and sleep. Not only does he love it, but I do to! I put it in my DVD player at night, set the tv for auto shut off and Doreen knocks me out! I've been sleeping so well myself since listening to her. She has a great voice for relaxation, and I've yet to hear the whole cd! I also gave this to my mom who has problems with sleeping and she dittos what I've said.

Amazon.com's Best of 2000

The thrill of invention never stops on this first full-length album from Jurassic 5. Coming out of L.A.'s kinetic hip-hop underground, the multitalented combo whips up an irresistible flow of charisma and keeps the fun at a high-voltage level. J5 can pivot on a dime from one style to the next--street-corner barbershop, turntable friction, or kick-ass swing. But the constant focus is on the essentials of the art: Quality Control fuses fantastic wordplay and MC skills with a killer grab bag of beats. It's the achievement of J5 to look back in a way so fresh it shines a light ahead. --Thomas May

Amazon.com

L.A.-based Jurassic 5 have unearthed the lost art of flow. With a style reminiscent of the Native Tongues, J5 delivers one of the most consistent rap albums in recent memory. Cuts like "The Influence" and "Great Expectations" exhibit a wonderfully organic quality that could help us all to forget the tired rap formulas of money, hoes, and gats. Comprised of four MC's and two DJs (DJ Nu-Mark and the legendary Cut Chemist), J5 is near Ellingtonian in size for a hip-hip troupe. The interplay between the members reeks of old school, the place where rap sounds honest and evolves as an art form. As well it should, because J5 aren't new to hip-hop; after all, they've been "rockin' since the '84 Fresh Fest." --Marc Calhoun

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars SO much better than what you hear on the radio.......2006-07-12

I'll admit it, the first song I heard from J5 was "A Day At The Races" when I rented Tony Hawk's Underground, and I really liked their old-school sound. My library happened to have this cd in stock, so I checked it out without hessitation.

As you can obviously see, I was extremely impressed. I have become SO sick of today's hip-hop...It's no wonder all the punk rock kids at my school hate rap so much. They judge the entire genre on what they hear on the radio...GARBAGE. It's pretty sad how such a good genre of music has gone so far downhill over the past few years...

But this review is not meant to trash modern mainstream hip-hop, it's to praise this cd.

The first thing I noticed was the damn catchy beats. They are so original, and sound very different from one another, however, they all maintain that classic old-school style. The second thing I noticed was how well they flowed as a group. You would think that 4 MCs all rapping together would sound kinda choppy, but they take turns with the mic, and the transaction between each MC sounds clean and well-executed. What's more, they are very unified, and sound like one person when they rap in unison. Finally, their lyrics are intelligent, and don't praise money, gats, hoes, and all the other things hip-hop is criticized for.

So if you love old-school rap, or rap in general, this cd is a definate must-have. My favorite songs are "The Influence", "Great Expectations", "Quality Control", "Monkey Bars", "Jurass Finish First", and "Game".

Enjoy =)

5 out of 5 stars J5-QUALITY CONTROL.......2006-03-20

THIS IS THE BEST RAP CD I'VE EVER HEARD. THE BEATS AND RHYMES ARE EXCELLENT. J5'S BEST CD SO FAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars "4 mc's at your door once more".......2006-03-12

This is my favorite rap album, easy. J5's sound is so pure, it flows like nothing you've ever heard. The beats are so original, and so damn fresh. The rhymes are rediculous, they just keep coming. The songs are a treat for your ears. This album will put you in a good mood no matter how bad your day is going. And these guys rap about stuff other than sex, drugs, and violence. They are truly the perfect group. Before I heard J5, rap didn't do much for me. All I heard was what was on TV. Eminem and 50 rappin about the same stuff over, and over. J5 blows the rest of the competition out of the water. My favorite tracks on this CD are Great Expectations, Lausd, The Influence, and Jurass Finish First. This album is what hip hop is all about, good times.

5 out of 5 stars I represent the real from the beginning to the end of it.......2006-03-02

This is the best HipHop group I've ever heard. The lyrics are incredible, original and with content not like 50 cent, Nelly, Ludacris etc etc etc all those fake MC's, J5 is real HipHop, they are the truth and they tell you the truth without those gangsta lyrics so common in HipHop nowadays. After I heard J5 for the first time I came to realise that this is real HipHop, this is what i was looking for, Jurassic 5 will make you heard the lyrics and try to understand them because they do have content. Every song is different and have different beats and lyrics, you cant get bored listening to Jurassic. I think is the perfect HipHop group, I dont see anything wrong on them, you just listen Quality Control and you will realise, songs like Lausd and Great Expectations (not only those all the album as well) make you realise what they are, they DO love HipHop, they DO make music for pleasure and for love not like others MC's or so called Mc's, they are not interested in money etc etc, they are just perfect. Quality Control is the best album they have so far but that doesnt mean that the others are bad because what I see in Jurassic is that they always keep it real, you can see that in the 3 albums they have not change for bad even more they have change for better, for example Chali 2na flow have improved so well that it will make flip out your seat and the lyrics always have kept the Underground flavour. Definitely if you like real non commercial HipHop you have to buy Jurassic 5 albums especially Quality Control.
HipHop is in good hands......as long as they rest on Jurassic 5 ones. Go J5!!!!

5 out of 5 stars One of the best and most accessible rap albums ever - there's NOTHING you won't like here!.......2006-01-08

I'm going to make the claim that Jurassic 5 is the best rap group ever - not because they're the best lyricists or MCs, but because they're the most accessible. They're just extremely fun to listen to. Every MC here has a distinct personality (and they are Akil, Zaakir, Marc 7even and Chali 2na), and you'll love every one of them (I love the one with the deep voice the most (Chali 2na)). The lyrics are always fun and memorable, and the beats are very catchy and impressive. Every track here is wonderful and definitely memorable which is a hard thing to achieve (many rap albums also have VERY good songs, but they tend to not be that memorable after listening to them). Though I love many many rap artists (Ice Cube, Too $hort, Run-D.M.C., The Beastie Boys, Dr. Dre, Skee-Lo...), Jurassic 5 wins hands down as my favorite group. There's a high probability that most people will love this album (and to an extent their follow-up "Power In Numbers"). Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Helpless.......2006-07-17

This five man team founded by triple threat producer, artist and writer Keith Sweat, Silk's debut Lose Control would sure to incorporate Sweat's formula with a touch of harmony. Eight of the ten songs were written and or co-written by Keith Sweat and he held down the project's production either single handedly or with some help. "Interlude" is a great opener for this LP with the simple phrase "...baby, don't stop..." that welcomes the listener to the ride. With the overly used James Brown "The Payback" may sound as if it would not be a good idea, but used on "Happy Days" had the bounce, swing and groove for repeats. Featuring Gerald and Sean Levert on "Don't Keep Me Waiting" is overall simple in the production scheme aspect. The gem is hidden with the various vocalists' textures and tones that make this hard to overlook. Slowing down on "Girl U For Me" even has Keith Sweat aiding to benefit on the ad-libs and background vocals for the mood setting. Taking the extreme sexual connotations to drive "Freak Me" will not have you saying stop. "Baby It's You" has a mid-tempo flavor that has the elements of crowd movers that could get them going. Silk's talents become apparent in the last lap where first comes the title track. With the delayed drum kick and mostly keyboard / piano laced track was subtle yet strong enough to tailor to the again multi-vocal ranges. Keeping the fire going, "It Had To Be You" isn't as memorable as the title track but can still hold its own with the colorful harmony. "I Gave To You" says all that you may be thinking and feeling while involving yourself with anyone without any compromises. In short, play Lose Control and watch what could happen!

4 out of 5 stars Freak Me Baby..........2004-06-23

Silk had an indescribable knack for creating baby making jams. They just did it better than most people coming out at the time and that made them stand out. The title track Lose Control epitomizes this group. Slow, sensual, and romantic type music. They had other hits (Freak Me and It Hat To Be You) and albums but this is the main release that you will need from them as it is their best and contains their best songs. Great 90's R&B!

5 out of 5 stars Why you should buy this CD............2004-02-21

Looking back at all the CD's that came out in the early 90's, I'd say Silk's "Lose Control" is one of the few that has stood the test of time. The whole CD is worth listening to. Silk is not like H-Town or Jodeci, where you buy the CD for the singles and ignore the rest of the CD, which is essentially filler. Also, Silk's style is true to their name: their soul is smooth, not whiny, like the direction a lot of New Jack groups took.

My personal favorites are "Happy Days", "Girl U for Me", "Freak Me", which is sensual without being tasteless, and "Lose Control".

5 out of 5 stars heavy.......2004-01-19

this is a heavy, heavy album. I first heard this album when I was 13 and the tunes still sound as sweet as ever. I can't belive i found a place to buy it again thank u.

5 out of 5 stars Silk's Lose Control is a perfect record........2003-10-14

Lose Control is so so hot. Recently it is my favorite music.
My favorite songs are "Freak Me", "Girl U For Me", "Happy Days" and "I Gave To You".
Happy Days is new jack, funky, nice sound.
Girl U For Me is Fresh, Melodic, Angelic and Love.
I Gave To You is Beautiful keyboard ballad.
Freak Me is 92's greatest single. It is too hot.

Album Description

The hard-rockin' Northern California band's much-anticipated follow-up, Someone In Control, co-produced by Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Pearl Jam, Good Charlotte) and led by the track "Stand Up," expands on the strong sense of melody, soul-searching lyrics and archetypal hooks that separate Trapt from its Modern Rock peers. Fans are standing up for Trapt.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Just an EXCELLENT Album!.......2007-06-19

I'm ashamed of myself for taking nearly 2 years to pick up Someone in Control. Trapt's sophomore offering does anything but slump. Just a jam-packed disc of great music.

I always like to count how many songs I'm into right after buying a CD, as to let myself know whether I just wasted my money. SiC, which features 11 tracks, features EIGHT that I'm already hooked on, and I haven't even broken the CD in all the way! It's THAT good. If you loved their eponymous album, add this one to your collection.

3 out of 5 stars No Me Gusta!.......2007-06-15

I liked their debut far better than this CD. This CD will be featured soon in a used store near you. Nothing really grabs you like their last CD. It's nothing terrible, I just wouldn't find myself thinking, "Gosh, I'd love to listen to Someone in Control right now." I haven't touched it for months, almost forgot I had it. Oh well, maybe next time. Anyone want a cheap used CD? It's yours for about $2.99 plus shipping. Just kidding, I'm probably not supposed to advertise on a review, ha ha.

3 out of 5 stars Barely half as good as their debut........2007-04-13

I give it 2.5 stars. There just wasn't anything on here to keep me coming back. Maybe once every couple years I'll say, "I feel like listening to Trapt" and I'll give it one spin, but there is so much more out there that is better. I really liked the debut, but talk about sophomore slump here. They better get their acts together.

5 out of 5 stars I keep coming back to this........2007-02-22

I really loved the well-known singles from their first album. I think those singles are superior to the songs on this album. However, with all of the music in my library, I keep coming back to this one. It's been a staple in my car for a year and frequently finds its way back onto my MP3 player. Pretty well all of the songs have grown on me and I just have to highly recommend it, even if it's not quite up to the level of what their first stuff was.

5 out of 5 stars Trapt's 'Coming Of Age' Third Release.......2006-11-15

This is the follow up to the 2002 release. This album is exceptional and the best the North Californian young band has come up with so-far. With only one listen of 'Someone In Control' I was hooked. Maybe initially it was the CD artwork that pictured a working class man who seemed to have it all, on his bed with his head in his hands. For me this picture could have depicted me. How many times have we felt not in control of our lives, of our family, of our work? This album was made for the working man and woman and I will explain why.

It is quite unique to find an album with the first 3 songs pretty much the best in the album. 'Disconnected' deals with how each of us can feel apart, out of touch with our loved one's, our friends and colleagues. The lyrics are sung gracefully and full of meaning with the abtuse deep rock riffs in the background. 'Waiting' and 'Victim' are songs for the working man/woman. The lyrics depict a person who falls victim to a unfeeling/uncaring working society.

Another great song is 'Lost Realist' that is a song based on our morals and how they stand up to today's reality. Are we going to stand by our morals or succumb to the flavour of the month? This song asks the listener to think and reflect on what we term 'reality'.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable album with a great message of hope and reflection within its lyrics and Trapt have earned my respect in their approach. Through the on the road experience they are trying to impart what they have shared and learned to their fans. There are no mindless lyrics here. This album is great. Nothing is skin deep.

This CD is for any rock fan and especially for die hard Trapt fans.

3 out of 5 stars "Give all the idiots a brand new religion".......2007-01-09

Not my favorite Bad Religion album, although I've listened to it much less than others, so that may be why. I love the song "I Want to Conquer the World", with Greg's voice so unique and raw.

5 out of 5 stars best BR album .......2006-11-26

i might be under thirteen but when i hear a good band i know it, Bad Religions' one of them. my two favorite songs are "i want to conquer the world" (a great song) and "sanity" (not as good but still awsome) the rest of the album is great to.

5 out of 5 stars sometimes it feels like...........2006-07-17

Bad Religion is the only band who cares (along with pennywise) about our world. This album is close to perfection. Obliterate your music collections and stop listening to green day, good charlotte, fall out boy etc and listen to PUNK ROCK AS IT SHOULD BE!

    1. Change of ideas (Not really a song as its under a minute but pretty good) 4.5/5

    2. Big Bang. Love this f***ing song so much. 5/5

3.No Control. Oh yeah what awesome lyrics. 5/5

    4. Sometimes it feels like.States Exactly what i feel like most of the time when standing in line or talking to someone who isnt listening to me. 5/5

5.Automatic Man. Extremely furious and fast just the way we like it. 5/5

    6. I want to conquer the world. If you havent heard this song then why are u here. Pick up the album now! 5/5

7.Sanity. This song grew on me. Could of been a single if they wanted to. 5/5

    8. Henchman. Sorta sounds like automatic man, well same kinda theme but still 5/5

9.It must look pretty appealing. One of my fav songs on the album. Basically stating that what one person sees as good will be cool for you and so others follow leading to the construction of what we now know as the masses. 5/5

    10. You. Probably the best punk rock song ever. 5/5

    11. Progress. Great song catchy as well. 5/5

    12. I want something more. How about alonger song this ones like 40 seconds but is very complex. 4.5/5

    13. Anxiety. not much to say on this one. 4.7/5

    14. Billy. Great tune. 5/5

    15. The World wont stop. Without you. Love this track. 5/5

Ok so its short about 26 minutes but feels longer than Generator even though it aint but maybe thats because it has more songs. Whatever the case this is a CD that no punk rock fan should be without.

    5. Automatic Man - 7/10 - fast, melodic, but not too special. some good harmonies in the chorus though.

    6. I Want to Conquer the World - 9/10 - great guitar solos and a great melody.

    7. Sanity - 5/10 - not fast. sorta boring. not great guitar solos. but not an awful song.

    8. Henchman - 8/10 - great backing vocals. very fast and punk.

    9. It Must Look Pretty Appealing - 7/10 - average song. a pretty good melody.

    10. You - 10/10 - probably my favorite song on the cd. this is the first bad religion song i ever liked. the verse is pure genius. genius melody. amazing harmonies.

    Album Description

Chromeo is Pee Thug and Dave 1, best friends since their Montreal adolescence, virtuoso musicians, and hip-hop encyclopedias. Pee brings analog synth bass lines and drum machine wizardry a la Cameo and Prince, while Dave contributes melodic tales of urban romance. Their blend of catchy song structures, memorable hooks, and twirling guitar solos conjure up images of either a sophisticated, thugged-out Hall & Oates, or the subconscious meeting of Daft Punk and N.E.R.D.

Ok... I first saw these guys live... and I couldn't believe that these guys were real! they're rockin! the music is so catchy and fun, not to mention the great lyrics.. you gotta love it.

    5 out of 5 stars (^_^).......2006-01-22

I remember when I first heard this album...I was riding in the backseat of a car with all the windows rolled down along with some of my friends and we were trying to find free Wendy's Frosties in Columbus, Ohio. Listening to it on NYC's subway is also fun. It's an album for any situation really. My boyfriend played it so much at his architecture studio that people asked him to turn it off, but it's really that "good" (and I think most of the people who were mad at him went out and bought it secretly). Buy this album if you like fun(ny) music!

4 out of 5 stars It has to be done........2006-01-21

When I first heard this album I thought; if these dudes are take them selves seriously then this music is rubbish. Then I thought; does that even matter.....? Basically, I reckon this album is the kind of music you have to appreciate for what it is and nothing more than that.

It's retro, funky, definately electro, and definately pop... kind of funny... there are alot of well-grounded melodies and 80s sounds and arrangements. It's the kind of nostalgic pop the world has been waiting for. If the 80s have, or are, coming back around again Chromeo are at the top of the pile of interesting electro pop artists. It's kind of kitch, light hearted and enjoyable. it's a good album so buy it and see if you enjoy it.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty sure its a joke........2006-01-13

I am pretty sure they are a joking.

3 out of 5 stars A humorous electro-hop album that's unfortunately uneven and not all that great - "Needy Girl" is a great tune, though.......2006-01-05

Chromeo's "She's In Control" is a decent enough debut. They definitely prove that they have some potential with the first track "Me & My Man" and the hit song "Needy Girl" which is one of my recent favorites. They have much promise, but "She's In Control" is not that album which will make them stars (*worthy* stars, I should say). After the third track, "You're So Gangsta", the album gets noticably worse. The singer(s) are great here - they have the right charm and personality for the lyrics and style of music. Lyrically the album is pretty interesting although it's mostly just funny (especially on "Needy Girl" and "Me & My Man". Sometimes they're pretty childish - see "Rage!"). Musically it sounds pretty unique - they somehow manage to create a distinct electronic sound that fuses in elements of hip-hop and jazz/blues (for this part see "You're So Gangsta"). It's not for everyone, but many will probably appreciate its humor. Overall it's not a bad album, but you could probably live without it.

    Highlights include:
    "Me & My Man"
    "Needy Girl"
    "You're So Gangsta"
    "Woman Friend" (to an extent)
