5 out of 5 stars "It Seems That The Powers That Be Have Decided Who I Am And Who I Will Be.".......2007-01-17

Before it became the hip thing to write a concept album raging against the Bush administration, or commenting on American pop-culture, hardcore Christian act Project 86 released this underappreciated little gem, "Truthless Heroes" in 2002. Their third full-length album marked a severe change in pace for the group. Despite the fact that "Truthless Heroes" is as intense, front to back, as any of their previous releases, the album as a whole utilizes much more melody and traditional song structures. Not to say it's a streamlined effort or an attempt on fitting in. Quite the contrary, "Truthless Heroes" honestly sounds nothing like it's contemporaries. Not in 2002, not now.

Opening with the blistering anthem, "Little Green Men," which has frontman Andrew Schwab proudly proclaiming "I don't need anybody/I don't need anyone," "Truthless Heroes" is the last thing you'd expect from any sort of Christian rockers in a post 9/11 world. The album explores themes of rebellion, individuality, corporate brainwashing, corrupt politicians/role models and the such. Four spoken word interludes help drive the message home, surrounded by emotional masterpieces such as "Know What It Means," "Team Black" and the grand closing number, "Hollow Again," a spacey epic that sums up the album beautifully and quite memorably. Regardless of the message you take away from the album, which could be interpreted several different ways, there is no denying that "Truthless Heroes" is an important and moving, yet overlooked album.

Although it's safe to say Project 86 had a their own niche carved out in the beginning, I believe this is the point where they truly stepped into their own. The musicianship is a cut above what they had accomplished before, the lyrics are more reflective and introspective, and on the whole, the album is one of the most timeless, yet underrated pieces of music recorded this century. It truly is a crime that the music Project 86 recorded here didn't find a broader audience, as it covers topics that just about everyone can relate to. If you're looking for something ambitious, yet accessible, "Truthless Heroes" is definitely an album worth looking into.

5 out of 5 stars I like P86 and I love this CD.......2007-01-05

I like Project 86. I love this CD. P86 takes its listener on a journey, filled with momentary interludes where we have the opportunity to catch our breath and think about what just happened. This band is deep but this CD is by far the deepest they have gone. Truthless Heroes delves into our culture, our humanity, into our very self and what we come away with is not pretty. As Christians we have a hope that we can hold onto. But this CD sets the tone for what is a hopelessly lost world. Buy this CD for the triumph that it is musically. Buy this CD for the triumph that it is philisophically. But bottom line, buy this CD!!!

4 out of 5 stars HAD to replace this CD.......2006-03-08

I re-bought this CD after my car had been broken into and the stereo stolen with this CD in it.

For me, like most of P86's music, just pumped me up and got me revved whiled driving, basically, living.

"Faith is finding me a way" ("S.M.C.")...is still my favorite track. But that's doesn't mean the rest is lacking in any way. From the first tracks to the final, the band didn't let me down.

Been with them since "Drawing Black Lines"!
