Product Description
27 track live album recorded on tour in Europe in 1996. Since 1980, Bad Religion have been stunning the music world by mixing melody, thought, attitude, speed and ability. Bad Religion have sold over 5 million albums since their 1980 debut becoming punk legends in the process. Bad Religion has always seen music as a force for social change. On their last CD The Empire Strikes First, punk's most important active band takes its weightiest stance yet on the dual themes of religion and politics. Clearly condemning the Bush administration's doctrine of preemptive war, and questioning religion's increasing and ever-frightening role in American politics, Bad Religion's message proves to be more salient today than ever before and it's conveyed with the fierce musical attack that has helped define the band, and the genre, for two decades. Includes the hits 'Punk Rock Song' and 'A Walk', plus three previously unreleased tracks, 'Dream Of Unity', 'It's Reciprocal' and 'Tested'. Sony.

A sense of self-confidence permeates Road Tested. If the '70s were marked by promise and the '80s by disappointment, the '90s, thanks to three smash studio albums, have been sheer triumph for Raitt, and she sounds damned satisfied. Her first live recording after 24 years in the business, Road Tested is an all-things-to-all-people effort, unsurprising given its creator has become all things to an awful lot of people. Steadfast favorites, '90s hits, and fresh additions to her repertoire are spiced by guest appearances by Bruce Hornsby, Ruth Brown, Charles Brown, Jackson Browne, Kim Wilson, and Bryan Adams. Raitt is in fine voice, her playing is great, and the band is solid. What's missing? Maybe some of that vanquished brashness and desperation. --Steve Stolder

4 out of 5 stars Sounds like it was made for video.......2006-12-19

GET THE DVD INSTEAD.

This is from a 1995 concert that was staged to be filmed. The total time is 105 minutes. You can get this on DVD instead, which I would recommend.

This CD sounds like it is ripped right from a video. There is just something about it, with the dynamic range and the way it is mixed. When I first played it on my stereo, I kept involuntarliy looking over at my TV, expecting to see some video.

Overall, it is a nice peformance from Bonnie Raitt, but it isn't the best one I have heard. It is better than the one released in 2006. However, I have heard other radio shows and CD's that are better, but for some reason currently aren't officially available.

One of the problems with this show and her latest live CD's is that they try too hard to come up with polished product. So, all the hits are here, but they are done too close to the studio versions. She doesn't open up like when she isn't under the pressure to create a video.

The other problem is too many guest stars. People always go nuts when there are famous guest stars on these videos. Sometimes there are magic moments. But usually, they are just a distraction. These guest stars do not practice with the band, don't really know the songs and just go through the motions. I would rather hear more of Bonnie Raitt than some inferior performance by Bryan Adams.

In spite of the sound quality and some stale moments, this is still a very nice CD and I would recommend it to anyone who likes any of Raitt's songs.

5 out of 5 stars a superb show with superb guests.......2006-09-06

I won't say much about the content, as others have covered that subject well. She gets help here from Ruth and Charles Brown, Bruce Hornsby, and Jackson Browne. The band is completely tuned into these songs -- everything is right on cue, sympathetic to Bonnie's vocals and solos. Slammin'!!

True, Bonnie doesn't sing classic blues on this album. She filters it through the rock and pop genre. So what? Anyone who can't hear the blues in her slide guitar is just constipated.

I own both the CD and the video version on laserdisc. The CD set is very reasonably priced if you buy it used, but you might do well to consider buying the DVD to get all the visual excitement too.

I've seen Bonnie live once. She is a professional. She is a natural live performer. Arguably these live takes are better than the album versions. I think she thrives on an audience. If you like Bonnie Raitt, above all don't miss *this* album. It may be her best, in addition to being one of the best live albums I've ever seen/heard on film.

5 out of 5 stars Bonnie Raitt at her best.......2005-07-15

I had never heard much Bonnie Raitt. I was at a CD store one night and ran across this live CD. I had heard a few recent songs of hers and decided to buy the CD.
I took it home and much to my surprise I could not stop listening to it.
The Cd and the DVD for that matter includes some friends of hers, such as Bryan Adams, Charles and Ruth Brown, Jackson Browne, Bruce Hornsby and Kim Wilson.
She does her classics Thing called Love and Something to talk about. She also does a mean acoustic version of Love me like a man which is certainly one of the highlights of the performance.
Dimming of the Day and Love sneaking up on you are also great performances.
The highlight of the evening to me is when Charles and Ruth Brown come out and sing Never make your move too soon. Charles Brown plays a very mean piano solo that will make any blues lover get excited as Ruth sings away.
She also closes the album with her classic Angel from Montgomery.
If you dont already have some Bonnie Raitt CD's this would be a very good one to start with. I would also recommmend the DVD.
This is Mississippi Delta blues at its best..........enjoy

2 out of 5 stars Too polished for my taste.......2003-02-08

I must admit that I have never been a huge fan of Raitt's work. Actually, most days her voice tends to grate my nerves. But since I almost always prefer live recordings to studio albums, I picked up this two CD set as a "best of" album. After all, there are not very many female slide guitar players, so there is something to be said for that. I hesitate to put her in the blues-rock category. But for argument's sake, I will reluctantly do so. From a purely personal standpoint, I find her playing to be a bit too polished. Her playing does not elicit the kind of emotional reaction that I am used to getting from blues. Don't get me wrong, she can play difficult arrangements and never miss a chord, but that's the problem. Her playing is mechanical. One of the best things about live performances, especially in the blues milieu, is where the "mistakes" lead. This album, while I am glad I bought it, will not often be finding its way into my CD rotation. It was what I expected, nothing more.

5 out of 5 stars Truly a live album to talk about........2003-01-29

She had been around for over two decades, appearing live in the Cambridge, MA jazz and blues clubs long before she had her first recording contract. She had been on stage with all the greats of the business. She had received triple Grammies for her 1989 release "Nick of Time." Her fans, ignited by her fiery live appearances, had been clamoring for a live album for years. Yet, it took Bonnie Raitt 25 years, a personal and professional roller coaster ride, and a succession of three bestselling albums ("Nick of Time" and the early 1990s releases "Luck of the Draw" and "Longing in Their Hearts," all produced by Don Was) until finally, in 1995, a series of live appearances in Oakland, California and Portland, Oregon were recorded and blended together in this album, appropriately titled "Road Tested."

When the project was put together, Bonnie called on a number of friends, with whom she had shared the stage many times before and whose songs, having found a whole new interpretation in her performance, had become staples in her live repertoire long ago. And they all came: R&B legends Ruth and Charles Brown ("The jewels in our crown up here," Raitt commented when introducing them on stage), as well as rockers Bryan Adams, Kim Wilson, Bruce Hornsby and Jackson Browne; in addition to her seasoned stage band, led by Ricky Fataar (drums) and "Hutch" Hutchinson (bass), without whom, to this day, a Bonnie Raitt live appearance is simply unthinkable. And as always, Bonnie was deeply appreciative of everybody who showed up for the occasion: "Special thanks ... for coming to add so much to this long awaited project. This was the time and you were the reason," she wrote in the album's liner notes, thanking her musician friends, and in true style, she did not overlook a single member of the audience, either, commenting that "I'd like to thank you up in the balcony, too; I can see you!"

Short of experiencing Bonnie Raitt live on stage, "Road Tested" is the best evidence why rock and blues music, particularly when performed by an artist with such an unmatched passion for her work and skill as a guitar player as is Raitt, is a vastly different experience than listening to a studio album. The blues is meant to be performed live first and foremost; similar to jazz and gospel (and often, more so than rock music) it depends on the spontaneous interplay of the musicians, and the interaction between stage and audience. This is, of course, most obvious in the songs performed as duets here; but just listen to this album's slow, intense version of "Love Me Like a Man;" one of Raitt's oldest songs - it's from her second album, 1972's "Give It Up" - one of those pieces that would have an uninitiated listener, if any such still exist, become absolutely convinced that they're listening to a recording made in a small Southern blues club, not on a big West coast stage. And indeed, immediately after that song follows Mississippi Fred McDowell's "Kokomo Medley," in the introduction of which Raitt quotes her old friend and touring partner's words: "I do not play no rock'n roll" - and she adds that "when he got to playin', man, that's all the rockin' I'll ever need."

Most of the 22 songs contained on this double album are longtime staples in Raitt's live appearances; and given her extraordinary repertoire, it comes as no surprise that this is an outing jam-packed to the brim with gems. CD No. 1 starts with a quintuple slam: Her opening duet with Bruce Hornsby on John Hiatt's "Thing Called Love," one of the standout hits from "Nick of Time" ("When I wrote the song, I had no idea that a pretty redhead named Bonnie Raitt was going to make it such a big thing one day," Hiatt once commented), followed by "Three Time Loser" (originally published on 1977's "Sweet Forgiveness" and one of her trademark "I've had it" songs with lyrics such as "How many hours [for] your love I'm gonna wait? How many heartaches you really think I'm gonna take?"), the Jazz Crusaders' infectious "Never Make Your Move Too Soon" (featuring Bonnie Raitt with Ruth and Charles Brown and Kim Wilson) and one of the hits from "Luck of the Draw," "Something to Talk About." Other standouts on the first CD are "Have a Heart" (likewise from "Nick of Time") and the heartbreaking ballad "Louise" (from "Sweet Forgiveness").

CD No. 2 begins with the title song of "Longing in Their Hearts," Raitt's last studio album before this live double outing, and a small series from that album and its predecessor "Luck of the Draw" ("Come to Me" and the rocking "Love Sneakin' Up on You"), and then Bonnie and crew get ready to bring down the walls again with the Talkin' Heads' "Burning Down the House." Thereafter it gets quieter once more, with Bonnie Raitt's version of "I Can't Make You Love Me" (and again, Bruce Hornsby on keyboards), after which the daughter of pianist Marjorie Haydock Raitt herself takes the keys for the rocker "Feeling of Falling;" followed by a nonstop succession of duets with all her famous guests: from more good oldfashioned rock'n roll in "I Believe I'm in Love With You" to the hard-driving "Rock Steady" with Bryan Adams (who specifically wrote the song for this appearance with Raitt), the ballad "My Opening Farewell" with that song's creator Jackson Browne, and last but not least, perhaps Raitt's biggest signature song, the John Prine classic "Angel From Montgomery," which here becomes an emotional finale, in which she is joined by all of her guests.

"We were going for something really special," producer Don Was, who would pass the helm to Mitchell Froom and Tchad Blake for Raitt's next studio album, 1998's "Fundamental," commented on "Road Tested." And something special they created indeed - only to be surpassed by the experience of an entire evening of a Bonnie Raitt live appearance.

5 out of 5 stars The Most Simple Exercise Songs For Young Children From Bobby Susser.......2006-05-22

I have three day care centers in Florida where music and exercise are favorites in the curriculum for my little children. This collection of very simple songs and exercises is just that. It shows, through the repetition of catchy lines, that Bobby Susser is very aware of children's needs. Susser knows that when he hits upon something catchy for the kids and through his repetition of lyrical and musical phrases, not to let up, giving the kids just what they want. He doesn't give them too much, but enough so they are thoroughly interested, satisfied, and enthusiastic. He knows when to keep going, and when to let up. For those of you who work with kids, you know the importance of repetition. Bobby Susser has mastered repetition of very catchy sections of songs he's created and in doing so, holds children's interest, gives them a heck of a good time, and teaches them all at the same time. I majored in preschool education and music, and believe me, Bobby Susser is a subtle master at teaching through his simple, catchy, songs with repetetive phrases written especially for little ones.

5 out of 5 stars THIS CD IS OLD TRIED AND TRUE.......2006-05-04

I AM A KINDERGARTEN TEACHER AND HAVE USED THIS ALBUM IN CASSETTE FIRST. THEN I BOUGHT THE CD WHEN MY TAPE WORE OUT. I JUST GOT ANOTHER CD BECAUSE I GAVE A TEACHER FRIEND THE CD TO BORROW. SHE LOVED IT SO MUCH FOR HER KINDERGARTEN CLASS THAT SHE ASKED IF SHE COULD KEEP IT. I GAVE IT TO HER AS A GIFT, AND I AM ENJOYING WORKING WITH MY NEW CD, AND WATCHING MY CLASS ENJOY THEMSELVES WHILE THEY EXERCISE AND LEARN OTHER GOOD HEALTH HABITS TO THESE CATCHY SONGS."WIGGLE WIGGLE AND OTHER EXERCISES" IS ONE EARLY CHILDHOOD ALBUM YOU CAN SURELY LABEL AS 'OLD TRIED AND TRUE.' IT NEVER FAILS TO WORK WITH THE KIDS.

5 out of 5 stars The Benchmark Exercise Album For Young Children.......2005-10-24

While B.B. King is the benchmark guitarist for playing the blues, Ray Charles, the benchmark singer for combining soul and gospel music, Barbra Streisand the benchmark vocalist for her range and clarity, Paul Simon, the benchmark singer/songwriter for telling his stories in song format, and Bob Dylan, the benchmark singer/songwriter for using unique phrases and the delivery of them, Bobby Susser's album "Wiggle Wiggle And Other Exercises" is undoubtedly the benchmark album for original songs for young children to exercise to. I am a kindergarten teacher, and I specialize in teaching music, and subjects through music. I have used virtually every collection of songs available for young children to sing along with and exercise to. Some are OK, and some are somewhat good. However, if you want the real thing, Bobby Susser gives it to you in every exercise song in this collection. The repetition of his catchy phrases and melodies is not boring, but rather very successful in teaching the kids the songs and exercises, and in keeping the children always interested. He's a master at using repetition in a positive way for children. It is very obvious, after seeing the children respond immediately to the simple rhythms, friendly vocal deliveries, and all the fun and easy to learn songs that convey the importance of exercise, good health habits, having fun, and incorporating these ideas into your daily routine at an early age, Bobby Susser knows how to make the very most of a song, and a simple 'Wiggle' for young children like noone else I've heard in the nineteen years I've taught little children.
When you listen to the songs "Wiggle Wiggle", "March Around In A Circle", "Let's Pretend", "Hello Hello Goodbye Goodbye", and "Rest Awhile", it is apparent that Bobby Susser is no accident and creates collections for young children that makes children's music history the first time any of his titles are heard. Anyone can easily tell that he cares and is dedicated to the children.

5 out of 5 stars The Finest Kid Songs For Kid Exercises From Bobby Susser.......2005-05-05

This album has everything you possibly want and need for an exercise album for young kids. My preschool class never tires of "Wiggle Wiggle And Other Exercises." Every song is so catchy and exciting for my class. Every song states a purpose, and has printed lyrics and suggested activities in the teacher/parent notes booklet. Subjects covered are developing gross and fine motor skills, coordination, right/left discrimination, listening skills, rhythm, counting, and good health habits, while exercising, and singing. Bobby Susser ends this great collection with a soothing rest song for the kids. This album has it all.

5 out of 5 stars Bobby Susser's Songs And Exercises Are #1 On My Kids' List.......2005-04-04

I'm a first grade teacher who has worked with exercises, and movement songs with my kids. From day to day and year to year this Bobby Susser album "Wiggle Wiggle And Other Exercises" is #1 on my kids' list. The songs are very catchy, but also simple enough for young kids to easily learn. The beats and rhythms are excellent for my young class. They quickly learn the songs and exercises, and have loads of fun doing and learning important health and exercise habits that will benefit them throughout their lives.

5 out of 5 stars A transcendant musical experience.......2007-05-11

This album is a must for any true bad religion fan. Some of the songs on this album have never sounded better. Greg Graffin and the boys play their souls out, and it speaks. "American Jesus" is sublime. "Portrait of Authority" is perfected, and "Change of Ideas" sounds truly overwhelming. "Part III" is my personal favorite, and very fitting for the current politics, even though it was written so long ago. This song got me hooked on this album. When I drive, I always turn up this song. It, like Spinal Tap, reaches 11. "Dream of Unity" is also on this album, a hard to get gem. Greg Graffin's vocals are human, live and spontaneous, as in the version of "Generator" which is beyond compare. The liner notes are great, and they have descriptions of all the places they went, and where they recorded each individual song. There are some anecdotes that just boggle the mind.

Everybody who claims to like Bad Religion should have this CD. It is without a doubt my favorite live album of all time. The added heaviness makes the songs that much better, especially with such heavy hitters as "No Control." "Do What You Want" is also great. The whole album is great. Every critically minded music lover should feast upon the harmonic cornucopia that is Bad Religion! What other band has a PhD from Cornell leading the fracas? A band for the ages.. oh yeah, "Along the Way" is killer as well. Just buy it already!

You are the government!

4 out of 5 stars Complete Your Collection!.......2007-01-17

This is a very solid CD, like most of BR's are.

BR's approach was quite interesting. Instead of putting a lot of money and effort into capturing a couple of shows, then cleaning up the results in the studio, they recorded continuously with basic equipment through their whole tour -- and picked the best cuts with only modest editing.

(Nitpick: I'm not fully convinced that it works on every track - the background vocals were not captured well on some songs.)

But good grief, there are 27 recordings on here! Even a nominal BR fan can find something to like on this album, and the band really loaded it to the rafters. This would be a "two CD set" from anyone else, but BR really delivers!

I'm so glad too, that they included some of their rarities on here. You might not get a chance to hear those, even if you do attend a live show.

Definately give this CD a chance, if have already bought a couple of BR releases, and are considering getting more.

5 out of 5 stars life in a moment.......2006-04-05

this is one of the only live albums id ever spring the payola for. the raw energy in the performances is just unbalievable. after seeing B.R. live about 6,7 years ago i was very pleased with the album for it brought back that show. this is definetly one of those albums you can listen to over and over driving everyone around you crazy unless there die hard fans too. id give this three thumbs up along the five stars. two of my thumbs and one from the guy standing next to me.a most definet worthy purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Wow.......2004-07-17

This CD is amazing. I give it four stars only because of certain songs that weren't included.

I'll review each of the three previously unheard tracks:

Dream of Unity: This song is famazing. That's all there is to it. It's a slow dirgey song about unity (duh.) It's just an incredible put-up-your-lighter song. They should put this on a mainstream release sometime. 7/5.

It's Reciprocal: Not bad at all, a lot better than some of the filler on Gray Race. I really like it. Good lyrics too. 4/5.

Tested: I just didn't get into this one. I'm not into it at all. 2/5.

Overall rating of the three new songs: 4/5.

Overall rating of the CD: 4/5.

Overall recommendation: Buy this, just for Dream of Unity and It's Reciprocal, not to mention some really great live versions.

Yes, I'd have liked to see some other songs like Anesthesia, Only Entertainment, Entropy, Walk Away, 21st Century Digital Boy, Inner Logic, Infected, and Handshake, but such is life.

5 out of 5 stars does any band sound better live than BR?.......2003-10-21

As someone who has listened to Bad Religion since they first came about, I am not only impressed by this album, I am obsessed with it.

This band found their style very early in their carreer and they have not changed it at all, even with all of the MTV pre-made poo that we are subjected to on a daily basis. Bad Religion still have the ability to write their own lyrics, and sound exactly the same as they did 10 years ago.

This album is living proof that this band sounds just as good live, if not better, than they do straight out of the studio.

I love hearing a song that I know and love in a different manner. It's especially good if you are drunk and want to sing along, but feel bad that you can never sound as good as they do.

If you are looking for a greatest hits album, get All Ages, if you wanna hear some of your favorite BR songs LIVE, get this one. Hell, get them both. I think that anyone who has anything to say about how the world is today needs to listen to a good BR album. Long live BR!!!! Come play in WV dammit!!!!

I love this album. Every song is a story that can be imagined and believed. Tim's voice is pleasant and soothing, and his lyrics are the finest. I can only say that this is by far his best album, and obviously his most prized. The other albums don't have the appeal that this one does.
A message for Tim: Make more albums, and keep telling those wonderful cowboy stories.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome to the West!.......2001-10-05

After an outstanding debut CD and two weak follow-ups, Tim Ryan Rouillier hits the ground running with this set of songs that remind me of Michael Martin Murphy. Opening with the title cut, Ryan sings, "For a man's at his best when he's tried true and tested like a page out of Louis L'amour." Followed by "The Old Cowboy" which portrays an old cowboy telling a story to the narrator who, with tape recorder and pen, tries to capture what life in the old west was like.

Other songs that are memorable are: "Girl With Eyes of Green," a tale of love between a young man and the 17-year-old prostitute who serves him his first time. The boy goes on to promise that he'll return for her someday. The song ends with the boy trying to cross the border and the girl waiting in the door; a beautiful tale. "Key of C' is about living life the simple way, not making things so difficult. "Horse With No Rider" is probably the most commercial song on the CD. He describes himself as "a horse with no rider, a ship with no sails, a torch with no fire, a train with no rails." The steel guitar throughout the song is mesmerizing.

This CD should be in everyone's collection, find one now before it's too late!!

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding!.......2001-08-05

I love this album. It has some songs that are heartwarming and others that make one want to jump and dance. But mostly it is a CD that listeners would like to play and to enjoy, and enjoy and enjoy! My favorites are Key of C and Eyes of Green!

5 out of 5 stars Never tire of listening to this CD.......2000-06-17

I am the kind of person who does not like to listen to the same music over and over. I get bored with it rather quickly, but not with this CD. I absolutely love the music, and the message. It makes me feel good to listen to it.

5 out of 5 stars Why do I like mainstream jazz so much? THIS is why! .......2007-05-27

I caught a song from "Road Tested" on a radio program called "Jazz Showcase" late one Sunday night, although I didn't know who it was at the time and had to go to the station's website and look it up on their playlist. They were playing a standard, "Caravan", but something about the ferociously energetic and soulful way this quartet tore into that old standby immediately caught my attention and impressed the hell out of me. I ordered the CD from Amazon the next day. It arrived a couple days ago and hasn't been off my stereo since.

This is pure jazz musicianship at its finest. These guys just play everything as though their lives depended on it. The arrangements are lean and spare and allow each musician plenty of space to be heard and to stretch out. The recording has a nice bright uncluttered feel to it that I really enjoy, too.

Extremely enjoyable and impressive. I plan to get more Crawford and McGriff as soon as possible.

Every Vietnam Veteran should purchase this CD...It will bring back some bad memories, but it will also bring back some "Good" Memories...The sounds of the Jungle, the sounds of the Helicopters, the sounds of the Rain, The sounds of the weapons, will give you cold chills...I first played the CD alone parked in my car. I did this alone because a non-veteran would not understand the music, the words, the sounds...and alone you can think and thank God you are here to hear this CD....Thanks Sarge, M/Sgt USAF Retired...Nam 69-70
