This Massachusetts band has assembled a firm national fan base one nightclub at a time, and for its fifth album--the first paid for by someone else--Stephen Kellogg doesn’t alter the prescription that got them here: another original assortment of folk-rock anthems and modern pop jingles that are quintessentially adult radio-ready. Nodding to pacesetters Counting Crows ("Maria") and Matchbox 20 ("Anthem of Our Discovery"), Kellogg is aided by members of Dispatch and Whiskeytown and producer Andy Zulla (Rod Stewart/Jessica Simpson), who siphons energy into 11 songs, including four re-recorded from the Kellogg annals, such as the boyfriend-becomes-stalker sing-a-long "You’ve Changed" and the Loudon Wainwright-like strummer "See You Later, See You Soon." With a flair for penning can’t-get-the-girl, cry-in-your-beer scripts--intermittently dusted with solemn turns--Kellogg’s songs are ripe for his glossy, impassioned vocals. There’s nothing earthshaking or groundbreaking here. Just a safe, solid and tuneful effort that sounds like the radio, and should be on it. --Scott Holter

Reading these reviews? Looking for a reason to buy the album? Let me ask you this...do you have a set of ears? That's all you need to love this album. Another review broke the album down song by song. Read it. Buy it. See the One-Click and Add To Cart buttons in the top right? Pick one. Do it. I put this album on and I just sat back and listened. Just let the album HAPPEN and you won't regret it. Listen and find out what sell out houses all over the country have found out...that Stephen Kellogg and The Sixers are the best band, live and in the studio, that you NEED to hear and experience! They just get better and Better and BETTER with each record and performance. Glassjaw Boxer is testament to that. You hear and feel each emotion on each song. I dare you not to be moved by the emotion on 'Father's Day', one of the stand out tracks from Glassjaw Boxer. It's a rare trait when a band can take you along with them on an album and make you feel like you belong. It's been two years since their last album Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers but the wait is over and it has been WELL WORTH IT!!! The SK6ers have hit their stride with this album and they are bringing their fans along with them. Experience Stephen Kellogg and The Sixers NOW before that stride turns into a run and you have to catch up with the rest of us.

5 out of 5 stars Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers Win the Fight by Knockout with "Glassjaw Boxer".......2007-07-10

The musical journey for Stephen Kellogg has been a long and winding road. With his latest effort "Glassjaw Boxer," Kellogg shows his maturation as a songwriter through his most personal lyrics to date. Backed by the ultra talented and energetic Sixers, "Glassjaw Boxer" is a fresh blend of Kellogg's emotional lyrics and the Sixers' harmonic backing vocals, mixed in with rich musical arrangements. Building from their previous self-titled release, Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers make an even stronger claim to being a relatively unknown band that deserves both attention and respect. The album plays out as such:

1. Sweet Sophia- 9/10
A piano driven rock song that starts off the album in true Kellogg form.

2. Glassjaw Boxer- 7/10
An uptempo and hopeful song about not giving up in the face of adversity.

3. Cabin in the Woods- 8/10
Another uptempo tune that showcases great backing vocals and an emotional chorus.

4. 4th of July- 9/10
One of the best songs on the cd. A beautiful ballad, almost written in the form of a diary entry.

5. Sweetest Goodbye- 9/10
Piano driven song with beautiful lyrics and a great melody.

6. In Front of the World- 8/10
A softer song that has become a staple at Kellogg's amazing live shows.

7. Milwaukee- 8/10
Another piano driven tune that picks up the pace with strong melodies.

8. Father's Day- 8/10
An emotional ballad in which Kellogg is at his best, both lyrically and melodically.

9. Hearts In Pain- 10/10
The best song on the album in my opinion. This song starts out with a touching piano solo before giving way to Kellogg and his amazing lyrics about a broken marriage. "What would you say if I told you so true, that I love you more now that our marriage is through." This song alone is enough of a reason to purchase this album.

10. Why Are You Talking To Me?- 7/10
While not one of the best songs on the album, this uptempo song helps balance out all of the ballads preceeding it.

11. Big Easy- 9/10
A great way to close off the album. Featuring vocals from both Kellogg and drummer Brian "Boots" Factor, this song epitomizes what Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers represent, a band that truly enjoys their profession. The close bond that these artists have formed is evident, both on their albums and at their highly entertaining live shows.

Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers may currently be the best band that no one has heard of. But whether or not they ever become as big as they should be, one thing is for certain, these boys will continue to do what they do best, and that is to entertain and spread the passion they each have for music, something that you don't see as often as you should because of the corporate stranglehold on the music industry. So keep up the good fight Sixers, I have you ahead on my card.

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT CD!.......2007-07-04

Great album! These guys are awesome! I'm waiting for their next album to come out now.

4 out of 5 stars SK6ERS are a good time........2007-03-13

The song "Start the Day Early" is what got me hooked, and then I heard a couple of other ones on their myspace page, and I had to have the album. I have really enjoyed it, and I have exposed a lot of my friends and family to their music as none of us had ever heard of them before. We're all lovin' them!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing New? Band. These guys rock on the CD but their concerts are even SICKER.......2007-02-28

Let's hope these guys hit it big. Until then these guys will be another one of my favorite non main stream groups.

If you can get a hold of a bootleg of their Iron Horse concert from 10/15/2006 it is awesome.

Rock me mamma like a wagon Wheel
Rock me mamma any way you feel!
Hey mamma rock me!

For those of you that saw them open up for O.A.R. you'd remember this song. They opened with it and it got the crowd revved up for what they were about to witness.

Love these guys.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome CD.......2007-02-15

I agree with the previous postings. I was introduced to this band when they opened for O.A.R. and have been a fan ever since. They have an unbelieveable stage presence and are all phenomenally talented musicians. There is nothing they can't play. I am also surprised that they aren't bigger than they are. Someday people will realise what they've been missing. Their concerts are top notch. Buy as much Stpehen Kellogg and the Sixers as possible.

5 out of 5 stars I Can't Even Describe It.......2007-02-08

I was introduced to Stephen Kellogg by a friend who gave me the Flower In Rain single. I loooooved it. So, as soon as I could I bought this CD. I've been listening to it non-stop since then. At home while online, during my drive to work, in the office, and so on. I adore every song on this CD. They're all similar, so none are going to slap you in the face leaving you wondering how that track got on here.. Yet, there's enough variety that you won't be bored with the monotany of it. Cause let's face it, we've all experienced those two problems with many CDs. I definitely have my favorite tracks one here (Flower In Rain, Such A Way, You Changed), but I always let the whole CD play through, and I've yet to be disappointed by it ;-)

3 out of 5 stars Sense of Time.......2007-05-27

"South of Stephen" is my introduction to Stephen Kellogg's music. I see that he has about five different CDs out; so he's obviously done well enough to keep recording after this set from 2000. This CD is pretty good. Kellogg has a pleasing voice on this folk-flavored disc. The strongest track is the opener. "Southern State of Mind" has a good beat and a midtempo full-band arrangement. Kellogg's vocals are wistful, "Until I cross Montgomery & I lose my sense of time; Just for a second I forget it all; I make my way across the next state line." "Fading In" is a good rocker. Much of the other material has strong lyrics but suffers from melodies that are not overly memorable. "South of Stephen" is an interesting introduction to this artist and shows promise. Enjoy!

      4 out of 5 stars Awesome Accoustics!.......2001-01-11

I first listened to Rain Summer, when my sister left her copy at home when she went off to college. I put it in my cd player, and it hasn't come out since. Stephen Kellogg combines awesome musical talent, with an amazing voice that strikes a chord in your inner ear. If you like easy accoustic listening with feel good vibes, this cd is for you!
