5 out of 5 stars One Of The Best Just Got Better.......2006-07-22

Just wanted to mention that the remastering on this CD is outstanding.
The vocals that were originally a bit too harsh have been smoothed out. - If you know this music, you know the parts - on "Standing By A river" - the vocals are much better now.
And the guitar and sax sound much more defined and separated.
No bonus material, same concert. But, it's worth the price to hear the concert with the improved sound.
I've played this CD more than I thought I would.

5 out of 5 stars one of the best live albums ever made, bare none.......2006-05-26

Outstanding concert tape, finally on CD available. This is a must for everoney who enjoys genuine music by a real band, who could write their own material and added some songs from others but played it their own way. This is fine example of a true band, at the height of their time. This is a ONE concert-recording, not being plucked from many performances and/or with many studio-overdubs. Listen to what this band could manage. The way they handled their instruments but more the interplay by the 4 members (on vocals/sax/harmonica, vocals/leadguitar, bassguitar and drums), every song recorded in only one take. Amazing. The music varies from straight blues to pop and (prog-)rock. It has so much to offer, everything on a good level. Those guys knew how to rock. Vocals are fine, guitarplaying excellent, rythmsection fills in and gives an added touch. Even the sax plays a role on its own. "Country Hat" is a solo only-number, on slide-guitar and sets Peter Haycock apart from so many other guitarists. Listen how this song developes from slow blues to full speed slide-play. And how it becomes immediately an integral part of the following up "You Make Me Sick". On every song he shows you what a guitarplayer he used to be, making his music a part of the song in a way you cannot describe, interwoven with the other instruments. What amazes you is that this IS a live recording, recorded in one take, no frills, overdubs, tricks etc. It gives you a sight of how real music was played. Even for the midseventies this is for real. Strongly recommended! Five stars is to less.

    4 out of 5 stars fantastic live.......2000-08-10

I saw Amelia's Dream live at the Bethlehem Muzikfest in Pennsylvania, and they were fantastic. After seeing them live, I just had to purchase their CD. Amelia reminds me of Natalie Merchant in her early years. They are an up-and-coming band, and this CD is definitely worth checking out.

4 out of 5 stars I have found another "Jewel" of a soprano.......2000-08-08

I caught an enchanting cover of Santana's "Evil Ways" by Amelia's Dream last weekend on public radio. I struck out finding the CD "Love Tattoo" in any of Louiville Ky's record stores and turned to Amazon.com where it was #103,600 on the hit parade.

I was pleasantly surprised to find not only Evil Ways which performed in a sugary sweet sexy voice that grabs your attention the moment you hear it but eleven other songs all co-written by Amelia Gewirtz, who is the owner of that powerful soprano voice which tantalizes you song by song with its range and versatility.

The lyrics are thoughtful, longing, and uplifting as is the performance by this two person group. The CD includes an upbeat remix of Fire in my Heart. It is a song off Amelia's Dreams' debut album which I will have to order after I finish this review.

This CD reminds me of another great discovery I made after seeing Jewel perform as Dorothy in the Lincoln Center's Wizard of Oz. I blindly went out and bought "Pieces of You" a year before "You Were Meant for Me" was released as a single.

If you like Jewel, I guarantee you will enjoy Amelia's Dream's Love Tattoo. What a voice...

1 out of 5 stars They keep bringing it!.......2007-01-07

If you thought that the amazing sounds comming from Ohm's studio work was due to 'studio' work well guess again! These guys have brought it to the house in their 'live' format this time. The craftmanship these guys display is wonderful. Everytime I listen I am amazed at the musicianship. They have just raised the bar for three piece bands by quite a few notches. What a band!

5 out of 5 stars OHM Is By Far The Best Fusion Band On The Planet.......2004-10-24

My best friend turned me on to Ohm about 3 months ago and I can't stop listening to them. I was aware that Chris Poland had been playing again but hadn't paid any attention. I guess due to the attitude that I have heard all of the players in that genre. Typically you get a lot of shred but nothing that really grabs you by the boo boo. Well as I told Chris the other night after a show at the Key Club in Hollywood, "Live at KPFK, and the studio self titles are the most inspiring and addictive cd's I have heard since Brand X, X Comminication." By the way Chris, and Robby are 2 of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Catch them in LA if you are in town or in the area. The next show will be Oct. 27th 2004 at the Baked Potato. 2 sets not to be missed.

5 out of 5 stars You will not believe this is live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-05-12

This like anything Poland puts out is a downright perfect release! Kofi the new drummer sounds like he has been jamming with these guys for years. You will play this non-stop!!!! I can only hope they make their way to Philly!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every song on here is top notch so there are no faves when I play it I listen right thru to the end! Only thing is it is a little short.

5 out of 5 stars Live Is Better?.......2007-03-27

I am basically a blues man but I appreciate different types of musical genre. I am a huge Floyd fan. I have all their music on cds. I came to appreciate Floyd later in life. Therefore, early Floyd was not on my plate when they were big in the 60s and 70s. I first bought "Dark Side Of The Moon" and then more and more and I listen constantly to "Delicate Sounds of Thunder." When I saw that this cd was "live," I said "I got to have it because I don't have it and it will be an "early live version of Floyd to compare to Delicate Sounds of Thunder." Maybe the later spoiled me with the sound quality, I just know that "Wembley" didn't grab me like I thought it would. Early Floyd sounds really different than the later stuff and I appreciate the rawness of the early stuff vs. the slick format of the last stuff. Would I shell out that kind of money again? Not sure. I know I dig the music but I think the cd is over priced for what I got out of it. If you dig Floyd though, add it to your collection because you won't go wrong and you won't have wasted your money.

I saw these guys in the seventies as the warm-up band for Canned Heat in Seattle. After Climax Blues played, Canned Heat got booed. My two favorite songs on here are "All the Time in the World," and "Going to New York." Those two songs alone are worth the price of the album.

5 out of 5 stars My all-time second favorite live rock album is still great!.......2002-08-16

Before I was old enough to drive I borrowed this album from a friend and trucked home on my bike so I could listen to it on my system and except for about a ten year period when I could not find a copy I've never stopped enjoying it.

In '74 most US rockers were not too aware of Climax Blues Band, this album, along with the expanding FM radio exposure of rock, changed that much for the better. This band is tight and repects the blues even though they are definitely on the rock side of the street.

Besides Haycock's scorching guitar work, theres Coopers dirty and distorted sax through a Leslie speaker blender attack that is just way cool. Add the unique subterranean vocals of Mssrs. Cooper and the smooth tenor vocals of Haycock for a great point and counterpoint and all you got left is the rhythm section from Hades (they're hot) of Cuffley and Holt. Smokin', miss it at your own peril 'cause only one rock live album is better and that's Wet Willie's Dippin' Wet.

5 out of 5 stars Cool beyond belief.......2001-08-23

I picked up this album in 1974 from the neighbors rummage sale, when I was 11 years old, because the exploding radio inside was "cool". Little did I know it was to become my alltime favorite album by which all others would be judged. All these years later, I still have it and wouldn't part with it for anything, except maybe for a chance to see them live. Rockin' Blues with an attitude. A must have for anyone with taste.

5 out of 5 stars Boogie Blues! Take me on home..........1998-12-05

This is one of the best albums/CDs of all time, bar none. I've gone through 3 album sets and am now on my first CD version of FM Live. Climax Blues Band was one of those bands which were infinitely better "live" than on vinyl, and this CD captures them at their best. Both rockin and bluesy and funky, these guys were hot on the concert circuit in the 70s. They were one of those bands that headliners didn't like because the CBB would blow their doors out on stage. The final songs on the CD, beginning from "Country Hat," an excellent slide guiter solo/song/piece, to the end is one of the rockinest group of songs EVER put together. I STILL get that rush one gets from hearing a good jam for the first time everytime I crank this CD up and go for a cruise.
