Editorial Reviews

[Crystal Planet] breaks no new ground, relying instead on signature power ballads, big-hearted anthems, and crunching rockers. . . . Satriani is an old-fashioned guitar hero, an antic wailer, and a romantic at heart. . . .

5 out of 5 stars Amazing guitar album.......2007-07-11

Joe Satriani is really incredible, this album prove that he is one of the best guitar player, if not the best. Yes, there are many incredible guitar players around, but Joe is without a doubt, in the top rated guitar player around the world. Greatly done Joe !

5 out of 5 stars One Of Satriani's Finest.......2007-03-03

This is one of Joe Satriani's finest moments. He takes us on a journey 15 tracks strong. This may not be my favorite Joe Satriani album, but it is still excellent. I just prefer Surfing With The Alien and Flying in a Blue Dream over this one. They are REALLY hard to top. But have no fear, this album is great and worth a purchase, ESPECIALLY if you like electric guitar music. Satriani shines.

5 out of 5 stars This CD blows my mind!.......2006-09-12

I've owned this CD for quite a while and I have to say it is definitely one of my favorite CDs(even when compared to CDs with vocals). Like a previous reviewer said Satch's music doesn't need vocals to convey the emotion of the music across. He does an awesome job of that with his catchy riffs and screaming solos.

Although Satch's level of mastery of his instrument is nothing short of amazing not all of his music is that great. This CD has best mix of rock and slower songs. I myself love all things rock so this CD sits better with me than some of his other work(included his newest Super Collosal).

If you are intested in getting into the world of Satch this is a great place to start. All the songs rock(especially my favorite Train of Angels!). Do yourself a favor and pick it up.

5 out of 5 stars Joe's the man..........2006-08-13

I have had this for a while and unfortunately it has been a while since I listened to it.... but relistening to it makes me realize what a great metal-guitar music CD this is... Joe is the man!
If you want a classic song, you have to check out "Summer Song" from "The Extremist" album. If you know any history whatsoever, you'll remember a long-time ago that their was a Sony commercial featuring this song. Awesome.

5 out of 5 stars the master rocks.......2006-07-18

After Satriani's self-titled, very different-sounding 1995 album, he released this dazzling effort. Crystal Planet is his second-greatest album, right behind Surfing With The Alien, which is THE perfect guitar album. CP has so much magic to it, so many hits, I don't know where to begin. House Full Of Bullets is fun and funky, Crystal Planet breaks the sound barrier, and Love Thing is such a beautiful love song. Anyone who thinks a song has to have vocals to it to get a message across obviously has never heard any of Joe's music. I love everything on here, but my favorite song has to be Raspberry Jam Delta-V. I've come to associate this song with my little girl. This song is playful, spirited and very energetic, just like her. No skips on this one; every song is a gem. Anyone just getting into Joe's music, get Surfing, Super Colossal (his latest) and this masterpiece. Then sit back and enjoy the magic.

Album Description

Escape to paradise as gentle trade winds caress you in this luxurious hideaway beside the tranquil waters of a blue lagoon. On a perfect crescent of white sands, our legendary seaside DJs demonstrate their mastery of the chill-out mood as they spin a soothing set of breezy rhythms, sensuous vocals, and smooth grooves from around the planet. Your body and mind slow down as you relax to these European favorites such as Althea W., TAU, Joe Weineck, Urs Fuchs, Artemisia, David Gordon Hands Upon Black Earth, Ashronr and The Moontrane Conductors, all hand selected and mixed by global music producers and artists the Gordon brothers (Café de Luna, Buddha-Lounge). Let all stress just melt away as you sit back with a cool drink, dip your feet in the warm crystal water and drift away under the endless sky… The perfect soundtrack for socializing, intimate nights, yoga or just chillin'.

"If you like music with a Balearic/Cafe del Mar sort of vibe, the latest compilation by producers David & Steve Gordon (BUDDHA-LOUNGE, CAFE DE LUNA) will have you reaching for the volume dial with one hand and a bottle of suntan lotion with the other. The grooves are kept at a comfortable low simmer throughout the course of the album, giving the whole non-stop block a breezy, summery feel. This would be a great album to have playing by the poolside or while hanging out at the beach. Most of the tracks favor nylon string guitars and smooth ambience as their principle instrumentation, while mild trip-hop beats give the album a nice, leisurely pace. A few of the tracks have vocals incorporated that likewise fit a "sunset on the beach" atmosphere. ~ Music Design In Review

I usually really enjoy Chill music, but this one just left me cold.

1 out of 5 stars Not tropical .......2007-02-17

There is no music in this Cd that you would ever hear in the islands.
This is one of the worst cds I have listened to. It is absolutely
boring. The songs are boring and dull. I would not recommend it.

1 out of 5 stars Pure Fluff...*puke*.......2006-01-31

Ok...this label really is putting out some of the fluffiest music in new age/chillout. I think they should stick with the new age stuff like garden of serenity and chakra in my back pocket. Please stop putting out wallpaper music...

5 out of 5 stars A Musical Tropical Vacation !!!!.......2005-08-20

I LOVE this CD!!! I originally found this through iTunes and bought it digitally, but I just had to have he CD too. The music on this Sequoia Groove outing ranges from upbeat and whimsical tiki lounge music to smooth cool chill-out with a bit of Caribbean jazz thrown into the mix. My favorites are Win Meyerson's Feriado (Island Mix) and 66 Answers to 33 Questions from Urs Fuchs. Also beautiful tracks from David Gordon and Artemisia. This is perfect summer driving music or for listening to at the beach or poolside. I played it at a recent BBQ gathering and my friends just soaked it up and loved it. It's the perfect chillout lounge mix for summer. Grab a long cool tropical drink with an umbrella in it and let your ears swim in the warm musical waters of this wonderful CD.

    Album Description

With a little help from Andy Barringtang and Randy Bruner, Lighthawk has created a journey in interdimensional space music and timelessness, combining the power and energy of electronically synthesized soundscapes within the sacred vibrations created by the Ancient Tibetan Bowls, woven together by the ambient influences of nature.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great Ambient Music Choice!.......2001-05-11

First of all, I wil be straight with you about one thing. I am a friend of Kenya Lighthawks and I have a somewhat biased opinion of his music. I enjoy listening to his music when he performs it live here in Cincinnati, and My Daughter and I dance to his music carefree and shamelessly. (She Loves his music also) This is ambient music at it's absulute best! This album includes Tibetan Bowl, and naturally harmonious soundscapes. The harmonics of the Tibetan Bowl aid in aligning the Chakras during meditation. Also at a lower volume this album makes great ambient music. In fact, While Writing this review I decided to put it in my CD player. It is not recommended that you listen to this while driving due to the sedate nature of the sounds and music on this album. I can be contacted for a more comprehensive recommendation - Joseph "RedWolf" Smith, Pragmatic Oracles

And that because Satriani always uses the same formula for his songs. He may be an instrumental guitar player but my big complaint about his music is his guitar solo parts. Most times he didn't play enough to join him but some times this tactic is better cause it letting you searching for more of him. So, 4-1/2 because I believe this is the best album of Joe until now! The atmosphere and his marvelous lucid ideas they are really transport you to another dimension. Joe combines his ideas and his favorite guitar sounds to unreachable for Satriani ethos & melodies until now. A full instrumental disc, an excellent companion for travelling or for inspiring. Althrough Crystal Planet is one of his last work and many people believe is nothing more of his classical debute Surfing, Joe always find ways to surpise us. No matter if you first listening to him, Joe Satriani Crystal Planet (especcialy now with the bonus track)is one of the best instrumental guitar albums ever, including a variety of styles like h.rock, blues-fusion phrasing and oriental influences. I wonder myself, which is this Crystal Planet that Satriani voyage with us.

    5 out of 5 stars the best.......2000-03-01

this is the best that joe has ever done.i have all his cds and this on is the best.

3 out of 5 stars brilliance mixed with boredom.......1999-09-27

I'm a true Satch fan. That's why it's hard for me to give any of his albums three stars. OK, let me explain. Some of the songs are among his best (House of Bullets, Rasberry Jam Delta, Ceremony) but some of the songs leave you asking: What was the whole point of that? (Piece of Liquid, Psycho Monkey, Z.Z.'s Song) I guess I'm saying it's a very uneven album that you can't play from start to finish like you could with "Surfing" or "Flying". If you've never bought a Satriani CD before, don't start with this one. But if you are a true Satch fan like I am, you should add this one to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars Joe once again shows us what a true musical genius he is!.......1999-06-23

Even if you never heard anything by Joe Satriani, once you heard him you will be hooked. He is unlike any guitar player out there- and considering he started playing the day Jimmi Hendrix died, I think that shows just what kind of indivdual he is. Joe is the ULTIMATE in guitar players as far as I am concerned. Once you have heard him you won't be able to get his catchy ballads out of your head. He is like an addiction - always wanting more. Wonderful CD to own!
