Fun. Just fun........2007-07-23

After writing an awful review for Mest's album "Photographs" I felt like going to the opposite side of the spectrum. "Wasting Time" is a great album for one simple reason: it's fun. Are the lyrics original? No. Are the melodies complex? No. So why does this album merit five stars? Honestly, it's just fun. The lyrics are simple, the melodies are almost too catchy, and it just makes you feel good. And honestly, when it comes right down to it, that's all that matters. Anyone can write lyrics about girls, anyone can play a few power chords, but not eveyone can weve it all together to make good music.

"Wasting Time" is a great pop/punk album with a slight hint of reggae influence (found in "Slow Motion", "Change", and "What's The Dillio?"). Every song on this album is great, but for me the standouts are "Drawing Board", "Long Days Long Nights" and "Wasting My Time" (and make sure you don't miss the hidden track!).

If you like this album, you'll probably like their second release, "Destination Unkown", a lot too. Their self-titled isn't as popular (though I love it) and "Photographs" should have never even been recorded.

MEST's BEST.......2005-01-19

In my opinion this the the best album from Mest. It's got my all time favorite song (Drawing Board) and every song on the entire album is great. This album is probably actually a little softer than Destination unknown which isn't normal for a punk rock band's earlier album.If you like bands like Blink-182, Green Day, get this, I promise it won't leave your top 10 rotation in your car.

an awesome cd.......2004-09-12

Whoah...this CD is incredible. This is Mest's best CD, closely followed by Destination Unknown. All of the songs are very upbeat, fast, and well-written. Tony's got an amazing voice, and, along with Nick's great drumming, Matt's bass, and Jeremiah's awesome guitar skills, this CD is a must-have if you are a fan of punk, punk-pop, emo, or alternative rock. BUY IT!!

Long Days, Long Nights (8/10) a great, fast-paced song that really starts the CD off right

Hotel Room (10/10) one of the best on the album, Tony's voice goes so perfect with the catchiness of this song. An AWESOME song

What's the Dillo (6/10) this is the only song I dont personally like, its too repeatative and annoying or something

Slow Motion (9.5/10) I love this song. Its just like the name, slow at first with great guitarness (haha not a word but whatever) and then it suddenly goes into this fast melody. A great song on this album

Drawing Board (9/10) a lot of people could relate to this song, having been dumped and continually writing songs about them but knowing theyll never like it. A highlight of the album, though a bit slower, its a really cool song

Change (7/10) Its a really cool song; the beginning is boring but it gets better. My 2nd lest favorite on the cd but still cool

Forget You (8/10) good lyrics, I would like it better if tony sang it but still a great song, another many people (like me) can relate to

Electric Baby (8/10) a funny song, well-written, very awesome

Girl For Tonight (10/10) From this song up, I would say this CD gets more awesome than ever thought imaginable. An incredible song, very upbeat and punk-poppish

Lonely Days (10/10) a great thing about mest, so many of their songs you can relate to. This is another one, about being alone and so torn and just wanting to be with someone but knowing you cant. Fast-paced, upbeat, catchy; a highlight of the album

Richard Marxism (9/10) another song song by Jeremiah. With this song, though, a more serious one, his voice goes perfectly with the beat and melody of this song. An awesome song

Random Arrival (10/10) Love this song, a definite party song. Nick's drumming is highlighted in this song and this song really gets you in a fun mood. Highlight of the album

The Last Time (11/10) fastest song on the album, one of my personal favorites. I can relate to this one a lot and a lot of people could too. An extremely catchy, upbeat, and fun song

Wasting My Time (12/20) best song on the CD, slow at first and then unpredictably (the first time you hear it anyway) goes into a fast, sincere beat that is just amzaing. Great way to finish the album. LOVE THIS SONG !!

BONUS TRACK: F*** the Greyhound Bus (9/10) hilarious!! the bonus track, very funny

OUR OPINION IS SOMETIME BIASED SOMETIME NOT. HOWEVER THIS TIME ITS NOT. THESE GUYS REALLY HAVE SOMETHING GREAT GOING. AND, KNOWING THEIR HISTORY FROM FOLLOWING THEM FROM DAY ONE, THEY. HAVE CERTAINLY WORKED HARD DAYS AND NIGHTS TO GET WHERE THEY ARE. THEIR LYCRICS AND MUSIC NEED TO BE LISTENED TO CAREFULLY TO BE REALLY APPRECIATED. STAYING WITHIN THE MAIN STREAM, THEY HAVE STILL EMERGED WITH A UNIQUE SOUND WORTHEY OF THE EARS OF EVEN THE MOST TRAINED MUSICIAN AS WELL AS THE CASUAL LISTENER. Mest is the Best.......2000-08-17

If you like MXPX or The Ataris, you are sure to like Mest. This cd is great and I dont skip over any of the songs. This is a great chill-out cd! Lyrics like "the feeling is gone, the pain dwells on.." (on Long Days, Long Nights) are a winner. All of thier songs have an orignal sound to it they all sound different and they rock. They combine ska with pop punk very well, like in "Slow Motion" where they start out with the ska rhymth and then snap into punk. This is a must have, get it now!

Dissapointed.......2005-08-16

As a huge DMB fan and a string player (cellist) myself, I was expecting more from this recording. It lacks energy, big time. Many of the songs feel under tempo and sloppily put together. The arrangements are great, it just doesn't seem to flow from there. Maybe I'll learn to love it, but right now after a few initial plays, it just doesn't sit well with me.

The Dave Matthews Band deserves a better tribute.......2005-06-24

While the tracks on this CD remain true to their inspirations and are very nice, the overall quality is lacking. The London Contemporary String Ensemble sounds much more impressive until you actually listen to the CD. I would recommend this CD to any big Dave fan - just take advantage of the ability to buy it used or discounted.

Close your eyes.......2005-01-27

One of the best ways to look at an artist/band's music with a new perspective is to track down some form of tribute, and the string quartet are the masters at it. I've often wondered if DMB would sound as good without Dave's famous voice, and this tribute captures all the magic of the band's music with that added clincher of being strings only. It's hard to listen without singing all your favourite lines along the way, but if you take the time to sit down, close your eyes and let the music carry you away you'll love DMB from this new, beautiful angle as much as I do...

Dave at its Best.......2004-04-24

Dave is the best of the best of the pop rock genre, bridging the gap between jazz and rock. That's what makes his songs so awesome. If you're expecting a standard rock group, Dave isn't for you, but if you're at all open to listening to music other than metal or classic rock, this song will turn you into an instant convert.

If you're a skeptic who doesn't understand exactly why Dave is so popular, just listen to this song and you'll understand. This is pop rock at its BEST.

If you're one of those people who've heard alot of Dave and don't think it can get much better, listen to this song. In my opinion it is the best upbeat song he's ever written. After the first half, it gets repetitive, but the first half is AMAZING.

DMB kicks ass in "Stay" just like in any other song on the Before These Crowded Streets CD and all their previous albums. DMB is and always will be my favorite group. They just keep turning out the hits one after another.

This single provides several versions of the best song from BTCS. It has been touted as the liveliest and happiest song ever produced by the band, and rightly so. Combining lyrics which evoke nothing but smiles, Matthews is accompanied by gospel singers and instrumentals that make this song worthy of all five stars!

wasting your money?.......2004-02-14

I have been a big fan of Kosheen and have bought most of their singles, usually accompanied with excellent remixes. This one is rather bad.

When I heard the radio version, it sounded nice and the guitar notes were familiar. They are indeed a rip-off of The Cure's In My House (on Seventeen Seconds).

The Acoustic version has nice effects and adds a rock side to Kosheen's trip hop ground. The take on the voice makes it sound like an MTV Unplugged and there are nice guitar arrangements (similar to some songs in Alice In Chains' Unplugged). It was recorded at QEH Theatre in Bristol in June 2003.

Decoder & Substance usually produce very good remixes. This one is good, but nothing exceptional. Although not mentioned on the sleeve, the remix you get on cd is actually an edited version; the full length version lasts 9:44, but for some reasons, BMG decided it should only be available on vinyl.

Jacknife Lee gives an electro version of the song with some electric guitar added at the end. This version has the seeds of a good remix, but it unfortunately leads to nothing impressive.

The non-lp song has the same beat as EPMD's So Wat Cha Sayin'. They added some vocals and a noisy guitar. The whole thing results in no harmony. This is a non-lp track for a reason.

The video is very simple: you see the beach and, above, screens showing the group playing.

Well, on the good side the radio version is nice thanks to the guitar riff and the group made a great acoustic performance. On the bad side, lack of originality (copies of The Cure & EPMD), weak remixes, and a bad non-lp track. I hope it gets better next time.
