5 out of 5 stars No Brainer.......2006-12-16

This album captures the true New Orleans style rock and roll. Like a hot bowl of gumbo it make you smile and warms you up. The musicanship is first rate, the singing is powerful and soulful - in short, you feel like your at the party.

There is no way not to enjoy this album...just buy it already.

5 out of 5 stars THE Best Live CD!.......2006-12-10

I have listened to a lot of live music on CD, and this is THE best live CD I have ever heard. I discovered the Radiators while floating down the Black river on a float trip with my old college buddies. The song was Cash's Ring of Fire played live by the Radiators. I hated to admit it, but it sounded better than Johnny Cash singing it. I have been hooked on the Rad's since. I thought LittleFeat's Waiting for Columbus was the best live CD. Nope, this CD is.

5 out of 5 stars a snapshot of one of the world's great live rock'n'roll bands.......2006-02-08

Recorded live at their annual anniversary performance in legendary Tipitina's in uptown New Orleans, this album captures the band in their element - performing live shows in medium-sized, live-music nightclubs.

While many listeners don't "get" the Radiators until they see them perform live, "The First 25" (which refers to the fact that the recording was made on their 26th anniversary) does the best job yet (of several attempts so far) of delivering the feel of a live Radiators show.

My personal highlights include:
Waiting For The Rain, Hard Rock Kid, Wild And Free, City Of Refuge, Midnight Rider (with Gregg Allman on vocals and B3), Make Fire, Lila, and Danang.

The Radiators rely on the spirit of the music and lyrics (coupled with the band members' natural rapport and extensive talent) to create "the show". It is this musical marriage that has created the Radiators legend and secured the fantastic loyalty of fans known as "fish-heads".

While not as large in number as hardcore fans of bands such as The Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, or Phish, the devotion of fish-heads is at least as intense, as witnessed at live shows in cities such as NYC, San Francisco, Minneapolis, and Philly with hundreds of devoted fans who show up for every performance within a few hundred miles of them.

As recorded on a fish-head's personal website devoted to nearly 30 years of set lists for the Rads, in 28 years they've played 3982 shows which consisted of 1438 different songs, in 1031 venues and 402 cities.

Some describe a Rads show as a contest between the band and the audience to see who can have the most fun (and everyone WINS!). Every night has a completely different setlist, and they've played 5 consecutive shows without repeating a single song. Their music is a living & breathing entity, and one never knows what will happen at a Radiators show... not even the Rads!

4 out of 5 stars Love this!.......2006-02-07

The Rads are just plain awesome. If you have never heard them you need to get this album.

5 out of 5 stars Boiling over!.......2005-02-06

I only recently have come to this party..... and boy am I happy, and I don't feel late. This was my first intro to these guys, and I've gone on to get a couple of studio recordings (good but not great),but this live show (New Orleans, January 2004) is incredible.

The opening number (City Of Refuge) is easily one of the top 10 songs I've ever heard; a simple 2 chord tune that churns and twirls to dizzying heights and blazing glory in a deep everso familiar groove (feels like I've known it since rockin in my cradle). And it goes on from there... These guys are as comfortable as that local bar band or festival garage/jamband you may never know the name of, but as masterful as the big boys they are sometimes compared to (Zappa-toned guitar solos, freewheelin' funky grooves reminiscent of Little Feat, Allman Brothers influenced riffs, Dead-like jamming and vast repertoire, and ZZ Top style songs). Yet they are unique and distinctive, unpretentious and a wholelotta fun. I'm just amazed they aren't a household name.

The Radiators combine the best of all worlds, New Orleans jazzbluesrockfunk, great rhythm, tasty pulsing horns, intertwined lead guitars, groovy keyboards and soulful vocals and catchy simple lyrics. They are obviously a live band first, but are way beyond the league of jambands that are fun live but boring recorded.

Warning, this recording is addictive, and you'd better make room to move.
