Fourteen years and six albums into her recording career, British thrush Julia Fordham hasn't quite earned the following one might have forecast for her when she arrived with a bit of fanfare in the late '80s. That said, she's persevered long enough to have garnered the admiration of a core of devotees and more than a few notable musicians, including this collection's guests, India Arie and Joe Henry. That Fordham has become something of a singer's singer is not surprising given the cool intelligence of her phrasing and the versatility of her husky-to-piercing range, which recalls trilling '70s singer-songwriters Minnie Riperton (a cover of Riperton's signature song, "Loving You," is hidden at the end of the album and the late singer provides the inspiration for the album's penultimate song, "Roadside Angel"), Phoebe Snow, and the towering Joni Mitchell. Mitchell's former husband Larry Klein, who worked the board on Fordham's 1994 effort, Falling Forward, returns to the producer's roll, cushioning Fordham's expositions on desire ("I'd take a bullet for you") and destitution ("Your friends warned me about you"). Concrete Love is the work of a stalwart singer who's perseverance has paid off. "I have not gone the distance but I am on my way," she sings on the album closer. As female singer songwriters go I just can't understand why Julia Fordham has never reach the heights that she deserved. Live - you will struggle to see as good a show; recorded this album captures this English songwriter's strengths.

Good tunes, catchy hooks great voice. Buy this!

I bought this CD because I really like the song Butterfly when I heard it online one day. I never really buy a full album without hearing a few more songs than one, but I really liked the track so I went a head and bought it. Let me tell you, Butterfly ended up being just one of many stand out songs. I love Missing Man. This song is arranged so perfectly. I also like "Wake up with You (The I Wanna Song)", "Foolish Thing", and "It's Another You Day." This CD has made me become a huge Julia Fordham fan!

"Butterfly" is absolutely the worst song I have heard in my entire life. No kidding. I first heard it in a Crate & Barrel store in Michigan and I broke out laughing.

Her voice is deeper than I'm used to, but the music is just too smooth and sexy to disaggree with. I know that people will be hung up on her voice, get over it, it's solid. Sure, it adult contemporary at its most unapologetic, but that's not always a bad thing.

Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19

Volume 2 (comprised of 2 CDs) is another first rate compilation of the series' original music and not to be missed by U.N.C.L.E. fans. The liner notes are wonderful and add a lot to ones appreciation of the music.

My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.

The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12

Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.

Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.

And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.

Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.

This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.

Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.

So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

Wonderful.......2002-04-20

This album should have been released months ago. Unfortunately, Julia's record company closed prior to it's original release date last year. Luckily, Vanguard Records have been quick to step in and the album will be released in the US in June. This album has already received glowing reviews from critics and I'm sure this will be Julia's most successful album to date. Infact, the word 'grammie' has been mentioned. Julia made her debut in the late eighties and has continued to produce quality albums throughout her career. Her voice is a musical instrument and her lyrics tell tales of lost love. The title track from her new album is a colaboration with soul queen India Arie. Other highlights are 'Roadside Angel' (a tribute to Minnie Ripperton) and 'Missing Man'. Julia's career is set to rise and rise. Rumour has it that Julia will be composing the music to David Lynch's next movie. She recently completed a successful short tour and will be making more appearances over the coming months.

I had the good fortune to pick up an early promo of this disc off of eBay. Unfortunately, the company that was planning to release it, Division One, has folded, so I don't know if it will ever actually come out. I truly hope I'm wrong because it is an OUTSTANDING album. Julia's vocals are strong and clear, the production is immaculate, and all the songs are catchy and well written. Following the last track, "Roadside Angel," which is a tribute to Minnie Riperton, there is a bonus cut, a cover of Minnie's "Lovin' You," and Julia does a great job with it. Other stand-out cuts are "Love," "Wake Up with You," and "Missing Man," but honestly there's not a weak song on this album.
