Gather your Guns.......2006-01-16
A perfectly balanced album of blues/country alt rock, one of the best albums released by the Gun Club featuring the beautiful vocals of the late Jeffrey Lee Pierce, and Kid Congo Powers (The Cramps, Nick Cave & Bad Seeds).
This album rocks the whole way through, it's something that you can really let you're hair down too (even though I don't have any), the first song here is Walkin' With The Beast which is fuelled with guitars, it gives you the general feeling of the entire album, and finishes with the country flavours of Secret Fires which is a fitting finale and shows some roots to their music.
The album reaches it's pinnacle with The Master Plan & My Man's Gone which suits the title of this album to a tea, incredibly loungy something you would expect to hear at 5am, after a bender, walking through a casino lounge to go home.
But I suppose that was the intended effect.
The best late night driving music...........2004-11-26
Driving around E. St. Louis at night in the mid-80's looking for open liquor stores while looking at the decripted Gothic homes, I would crank this up...Walking with the Beast...the song's excellent rabid drums will forever live in my wasted, bitter youth -- reverberating a message that I've fallen from grace and maybe the devil was sitting in my car with me. Jeffery Lee Pierce and the Gun Club knew this world of small town madness and big city craziness. It's excellent Americana blues that will haunt you. Simply a classic. Yes, ghosts walk the abandoned homes of E.St. Louis and Alton, Illinois.
Their masterpiece.......2004-10-23
Stein for his help in this re-release.The only minor complaint is that there is no reproduction of the lyrics in the inner sleeve, present on the vinyl release. This is USA rock at it's purest and finest, not contaminated by commercialism nor airbrushed production. An underrated classic, and one of my favourite albums of all time

Remember the sequence in Casino in which De Niro's character becomes the star of a nightly talk show/pro-Mob harangue in order to keep hanging around the joint after he gets in Dutch with Nevada state authorities? Not much of that freewheeling spirit is captured on this gorgeously garish package. (It comes complete with a tiny pair of dice slipped inside the jewel box.) With main-room kings Sinatra and Presley absent from the proceedings here, the tic-ridden 1960 rendition of "The Lady Is a Tramp" offered by Buddy Greco is the kind of thing that too often passes for vocal sty-li-za-tion here. That insult to Frank--and Paul Anka's nonmythic rendition of "My Way"--aside, the Rat Pack does get props with the inclusion of the Dino and Sammy signatures "That's Amore" and "I've Gotta Be Me." In fact, the former's ur-Italian mischief keys into one of Jackpot!'s essential subtexts: the celebration of all things Mediterranean that was once a major part of the Vegas experience--Mel Tormé, Vic Damone, "Al Di La," even the bloodthirsty angst of Tom Jones's "Delilah," the best thing here and a murder ballad that Nick Cave shouldn't have missed. To think that this stuff was preferred by many parents as superior to rock & roll: "She saw the knife in my hand and she laughed no more," indeed. Too bad that so much of what surrounds Jones on this disc sounds foolish, even for those on a happy kitsch trip. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:

bluespunkrock at the best.......2004-05-27
It's a mysterious and alternative bluespunkrock record. Hail the guitars and the punk-singing of JL Pierce which results in one the best bands ever from the 80's!
And now ladies and gentlemen: after long waiting there is a re-issue with bonus track. Enjoy.
Most underrated band ever.......2003-05-01
