Product Description
The Benjy Davis Project is one of the most talked about young bands in the southeast over the last few years, with "The Angie House" being its third and most ambitious CD yet.

Combining elements of southern rock, pop, blues and country, the Baton Rouge, Louisiana-based group includes Benjy Davis on lead vocals and acoustic guitar; Michael Galasso on background vocals and keyboards; Anthony Rushing on background vocals, violin and mandolin; Jonathan Lawhun on electric guitar; Brett Bolden on bass; and Mic Capdevielle on drums and percussion. Since forming in 2001, the band has shown a remarkable development as songwriters, musicians and performers.

Their 2003 debut CD, More Than Local (featuring special guests Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Susan Cowsill and Paul Sanchez of Cowboy Mouth), generated considerable critical raves and solid airplay with an exciting blend of "harmony-laden acoustic pop," as The Times-Picayune said of their music. They were a surprise hit of the 2003 New Orleans Jazz And Heritage Festival, selling out all of their CDs at the Virgin Records tent immediately after the performance, resulting in that album becoming a Top 25 seller in New Orleans for the week. Their second release, The Practice Sessions (2004), continued to spread the buzz about the band nationally, expanding their touring base to over 25 states, as they shared stages with everyone from John Mayer, Better Than Ezra and The Gin Blossoms to Buckwheat Zydeco, Cowboy Mouth and Cross-Canadian Ragweed.

Although all of the members are in their early '20s, the Benjy Davis Project has a musical maturity well beyond its years, as evidenced by the songwriting, performances and production on The Angie House, which was produced by the band and Gene Foster. Benjy Davis wrote all of the songs on the new CD, the band handled all the arrangements and several members wrote and arranged the string parts. The Angie House has a harder rock edge than previous works, as evidenced by such songs as the opening track, "Wait;" "She Ain't Got Love," which features special guest, the late Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown on guitar (for his last studio recording); the college-crowd-pleasing "Do It With The Lights On;" the barn-burner, "Crimson Glow;" the Skynyrd-influenced "Everybody;" and "Purgatoria," which recalls U2. "Somebody Else," "214," "Blame It On The Devil" and "Down And Out" are ballads that underscore the insightful lyrics of Benjy Davis's songs.

5 out of 5 stars 5 Stars is not enough.......2006-08-20

The Benjy Davis Project is perhaps one of the best bands I have ever heard.. This CD (as well as More Than Local) are in the top 10 best albums I have ever bought. I can't say enough good things about this band.. I hope when they make it big they stay loyal to their roots because they are the best.

5 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT.......2006-08-01

This is a truely amazing CD. "Do It With The Lights On," "Soul On Fire," and "214" are just some of my favorites. I started listening to BJP from a good friend. Her Dad has a lot of tour buses and BJD uses them and they know the band good. I wish BJD the best of luck with all of their records, past and future. This is an amazing Cd and I would deffinently recomend it to everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Louisiana Represented Truly.......2006-04-08

I have to give the greatest credit I can to BDP for their reflection of life in Louisiana. No music, movie or other media has been able to do it so successfully. A fabulous blend of rock, zydeco, country and many other genres of music--a blend that is a very tasty "jambalaya". This album is worth the buy and worth your time. My hats off to this group and to their music. May there be many more from them. Thank you, BDP.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant.......2006-04-04

I thought the record was fresh and it was a very good new sound. I think these guys have a real good shot in the business. Seeing them live is great too!!!

5 out of 5 stars A surprise for anyone........2006-04-02

I just have to say that this band is really damn good. I saw them live in January at a small bar in Colorado and they rocked, so I bought their newest CD their from their keyboardist, who was a very nice guy, and after I took it home and listened to it my girlfriend and I were convinced it was one of the top 10 albums we'd ever heard. Somehow they managed to make the entire album not only repeatably listenable but damn good. A friend of mine who's in a heavy metal band and into 'rock' said he was in love with it. I listen to Death Cab for Cutie, Bjork, Muse, Ani, Blink 182, Radiohead, NIN, Dave, etc, and The Benji Davis Project is up there with them. The only thing that explains why I hadn't heard of this band before going to that bar is that the music industry in this country mass markets and makes it so radio stations play the manufactured and heaviest marketed bands for the sake of money and not for the sake of getting the good music and the good bands to people's ears. I would bet that almost everyone you know has never heard this band before and that when they do they will thank you for introducing them to 'em. :-)

Martinez's debut, Up Close and Personal, flaunted so many high-octane collaborators (Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Snoop, Wyclef) that many interpreted it as a way for Martinez to obscure her middling mic skills. This time around, she trims her guest list down considerably and goes for herself on "A New Day," which displays how women in the testosterone-filled rap business endure daily sexist attitudes. Animal House needs more tracks like "We Can Get It On," where Martinez distinguishes herself from most of the femme fatales in hip-hop by flipping some fly "Spanglish" rhymes alongside Noreaga. Instead, most of the album features borrowed concepts (the chorus of "Animal House" is a take on "Murder Was the Case") and beats ("Waitin' On" sounds much like 80 percent of the bounce tracks in the South). "If I Could Go," featuring hook-crooner-du-jour Lil' Mo, almost saves the day, but Nas may have been on to something when he suggested that this Hot 97 (New York) radio disc jockey stick to her day job. --Dalton Higgins

Album Description

Angie Martinez has been part of New York's airwaves on top-rated Hot 97 and becoming one of rap's most energizing forces. This album has more of the sizzling beats and smooth rhymes that made her debut Up Close and Personal such a hit, and it features the song 'If I Could Go' with Lil' Mo and Sacario. 2002.

4 out of 5 stars Where has she been?.......2006-03-07

Named after her newly formed record label based around the shining star that is Sacario (what happened to this kid?) this album shows Angie stepping up her game and putting Cool & Dre to work before they were Fat Joe's go to beat makers, and before they were big time producers for that matter. When Angie dropped her first album it seemed she was counting on her radio ties to make a name for herself by loading the album with big name guests. That album was also received as some what of a joke being that she was a radio DJ (and quite a successful one at that). But with this album she is trying to show that she actually does have some skills on the mic and has an ear for talent as she picked up the aforementioned Sacario and Cool & Dre before anyone else new about em. The lead single "If I Could Go" featuring Lil' Mo and Sacario is a hot club banger with Mo dropping a hook very well and both Angie and Sac come with it and Rick Roc drops an infectious beat that can double as both a hip hop club song and as a song that you could salsa to. She calls on a few big name friends such as Missy Elliott, Petey Pablo and Noreaga to come in and add some life to a few tracks. Her alliance with Fat Joe goes beyond just picking Cool & Dre to produce over half the album as Tony Sunshine drops in on the Ski produced "F*cked Up Situation" (10) and Fat Joe himself joins her and Sac on "Live Big remix" (13). This album does a good job of introducing us to some new talent and giving Angie Martinez a name as a solid emcee and not just someone who is trying to hustle her NY fame into worldwide fame.

5 out of 5 stars WOW, no disappointments here........2004-09-10

I simply love Angie Martinez, she's got so much flava and she can definitely work it.
I was well impressed with her debut UP CLOSE & PERSONAL and ANIMAL HOUSE certainly doesn't disappoint, her albums are the type that you can put on and let play.
My favourite song off ANIMAL HOUSE has to be F'ked up Situation, it's just fantastic the way she keeps her cool on the track whilst deep down inside she's hurting about a failed relationship but in true ANGIE style. I also love the last track very melodic and a great finish to the album, I'm not to sure about the interludes in-fact they crack me up on anybody's album, but she definitely makes up for the very few interludes there are with some tight songs.
I recently went through a break-up but I found this album a real comfort in a way that I didn't sit and cry all the time, I got on with life and I knew that Angie had my back.
I wish there was more female rappers like her, the Latin cross over is great, y'all remember LIVE AT JIMMY's? How fly was that track?

4 out of 5 stars Second Time Around.......2003-11-09

When I heard "If I Could Go!" on the radio, at first I didn't who it was until it came to the chorus and then I realized "oh this is Angie's new joint!" Then I went to search for the full album and I found it. Let me say that it's a good follow up to the debut "Up, Close and Personal" but it's not as good as the debut. She kicks off with "Animal House" along new comer Sacario who's featured in three of the songs on the album including the debut single "If I Could Go!" with Lil' Mo and "Live Big (Remix)" with Latin Rapper, Fat Joe. Songs which may really may peeps remember what Angie's about is "A New Day" and "Never" She talks freely to the public in both the songs sayin' I'm here so you either love me or leave me. Angie is not really as hardcore as Lil' Kim, so when it comes to relationship songs, Angie becomes like an R&B star, just saying what she wants. She displays this on "If I Could Go!" and the R&B/Soul/Hip-Hop/Rap styled "F***ed Up Situation" Which is a ballad talking about a past relationship, the song features Tony Sunshine who worked with Angie on her previous record. Missy Elliott makes an appearance on Angie's album on the club bangin' "What's That Sound?" which is really cool. Angie is still keepin' herself real but I'd had to say this album is more for the West Coast as it's that Funk styled album which you get from most West Coast rappers. It's about her Miami life whereas "Up, Close and Personal" was about her life on the East Coast in New York. Well, she's still one of the tightest female rappers to date and she better keep on selling and making millions of fans. C'mon y'all must come support Angie Martinez. Make her fan list an Animal House!

2 out of 5 stars could've been better.......2003-06-26

This cd was allright but some of the songs were really old school and pretty boring if I have to say so.I mean this lady is supposd to be a rapper and half of the songs can't even get a party started.

5 out of 5 stars Animal House - Up, Close and Personal Part 2!.......2003-04-18

After a long "Up, Close and Personal" album, Angie returns with something a bit shorter. "Animal House" is the face of Hip-Hop and Rap music, it brings the life to it. Of course she's already proved on "If I Could Go!" which features Lil' Mo and Sacario, which I think was the hottest song in 2002, forget about Nelly's Party tracks! This is some real Rap! Other songs to prove it's beauty would be songs like "A New Day" which brings you into the world of Angie and also "Never" which was one of the tightest songs on the album. Angie has never been a sexual rapper, but she keeps her relationship issued songs like "F***ed Up Situation" featuring Tony Sunshine, harsh name, romantic tune! To let the peeps still know she's got Latin flavour, she throws in "We Can Get It On" with N.O.R.E, a party Latin track. Speaking of party's "What's That Sound?" and "Live Big [Remix]" are two Old Skool Hip-Hop party tracks which really bring back the memories of the good old days when peeps still remember what RAP and HIP-HOP actually was (not the Rap of the present day!). She has to be one of the artist of the present day who still remember the defined meaning of the words: Rap and Hip-Hop. Everyone should respect her for that! Go Angela!
