4 out of 5 stars Feel the Heat.......2006-01-31

I actually would give this 4 1/2 stars. The only down side is that the recording quality seems a little hollow compared to my memory of the original album....But I was much younger than and my ears weren't destroyed yet. Aside from that, it's great to have this available on CD. The first half of the album is much better than what was the "B" side, but overall, a fantastic album with much more driving force than Grey Goast. A must own for true southern rock fans.

5 out of 5 stars The Ex-Outlaw Does It Again.......2003-11-30

On FEEL THE HEAT, ex-Outlaw Henry Paul creates another masterpiece. All of the songs are excellent, and the three guitars blaze with hot intensity, plus the rhythm section really cooks. Get this one- fast!

5 out of 5 stars Worthy Follow up.......2003-09-05

The Henry Paul Band's second release is as good as their debut CD, but slightly different. "Feel The Heat" is a bit heavier, a bit less country influenced CD than "Grey Ghost". This is not to say this is not a great CD, it is just a bit different than "Grey Ghost". It seems to me "Feel The Heat" is truly "Southern Rock". My personal favorite tracks are "Go Down Rockin'" and "Long Shot". Only drawback to this CD vs the HPB's first effort is the lack of a killer jam song. (Grey Ghost, So Long)

5 out of 5 stars Feel The Heat - Henry Paul Band.......2003-06-02

A great follow up to "Grey Ghost", "Feel the Heat"
is Henry Pauls's second solo record after leaving the
Outlaws. No acoustic guitars on this one, it's all
electric. Listen to this one loud! "Feel The Heat",
"Turn It Up", & "Go Down Rocking", are the best
cuts.

5 out of 5 stars What ??.......2006-12-10

The idiot from Virginia thought it a bit strange that an American black man would give the communists a chance. Looking back from modern perspective is easier than what he had to go on in the thirtes. Gee, I wonder why a black man would do that after all that southern hospitality, segregation, and steady work you gave the "black folk". Not to mention all those nighttime campfires you had going in their honor.
While I might be from New York I certainly would not be called a bleeding heart liberal but I can certainly understand why the poor soul was looking elsewhere. You are either ignorant of history and its influences on people or you are a totally unsympathetic jackass!!

1 out of 5 stars Nice Voice, but not a nice person...(read on, pls.).......2006-01-07

Paul Robeson, who was brainwashed into
beleiving Communist rhetoric (which is
strange as hell for an Amer-I-can black
man). A good singing voice but all cover
songs! Come on, Paul!

3 out of 5 stars A let down.......2004-09-24

I own several Robeson recordings and purchased this one with high hopes as it has a great selection of tracks. Unfortunately given the excellent recording quality of "Songs for Free Men" and "The Paul Robeson Oddyssey", the remasters from what I assume are 78's and possibly radio are a let down and mar what could have been an excellent album.

5 out of 5 stars The definitive Paul Robeson compilation.......2003-09-19

This 2 CD set of Paul Robeson is the definitive collection providing a decent overview of his work in 50 tracks all wonderfully restored from 78s as usual for ASV, with spirituals, show tunes, Shakespeare-like readings, and more done with a trademark bass voice and orchestration that backs up Paul perfectly and he would later be one of the first civil rights activists. The first disc is a reissue of the single disc "Ol' Man River-His 25 Greatest" on ASV containing "Ol' Man River," "Mighty Like a Rose," "Joshua Fit De Battle Ob Jericho," "Carry Me Back To Green Pastures," "Lazy Bones," and many more classics which is also available here at Amazon for those who only want a single disc of Paul's work and the 2nd disc contains 25 more classics including "Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen," "The Old Folks At Home," "My Old Kentucky Home," "Wagon Wheels," "Git On Board, Little Children," and many more. In other words, all 50 of these tracks are essential to any early pop, folk, gospel, blues, etc. music fan and this is the set to introduce yourself to his work in a convenient 2 CD package with the usual great liner notes and details on the original 78s ASV provides with each CD released in their Living Era series.

1 out of 5 stars Embarrassingly bad music for people with embarrassingly bad taste.......2006-02-28

This is "Carolina Beach Music", music so awful that outside of the the two Carolinas, Georgia, maybe Virginia, no one knows what it is or could stand to listen for long. While in the majority of the known universe, the term "shag" refers to the sex act, the ironic thing is that "shag" refers to something altogether different in the Bible-Belt extremist conservative southeastern US (and thank God, nowhere else), that being a sped-up swing dance done to mostly really bad local R&B music performed by really talentless groups of the region. That is the garbage you will hear in this compilation.

While the word "shag" speaks to the sex act, the shag dance is definitely a mood-killer for any normal human being. You've got to see it done to see what a total sexual turn-off this dance is - it's about as sexy as a Texas two-step, yet an entire culture of mediocrity that only exists in the south Atlantic has grown up around this effeminate, laughable Lindy done at warp-speed. It's definitely more embarrassing to witness when performed by a male of the species, but is still pathetic when done by anything with two legs.

Notwithstanding their on-stage outfits of the period, the Beach Boys music of their golden days in the 1960's had much too much class and sophistication to qualify as beach music (plus, you can't shag dance to it), but those unsuspecting people who move to the southeast from other parts of the US or world always assume that is what is meant by "beach music". Maybe that is true in the universe at large, but not in the southeast. Although the great songs of the Drifters and many classic Motown songs have been unfortunately labeled as "beach music" by those involved in the culture, "Carolina Beach Music", more specifically, is much more often than not simply embarrassingly awful music written and performed by bands from the Carolinas, usually aging white men wearing Sansabelt pants and Hawaiian shirts. The Band of Oz, the Embers, the Breeze Band, the Poor Souls, Billy Scott and the Prophets, the Catalinas, the Fantastic Shakers, are but a few of the local bands that make tons of money in the southeast and that could not get arrested off of their home turf. The popularity of this garbage being confined to the Carolinas says alot about the taste of the residents of those two states.

This was one of my favourite albums during the early 80's and is still a blast to listen to today. This album forged the way for the Rads to be part of Australian muscic folk law. A fun party band with the powerful vocals of Brian Nichol and the musical influence of Geoff Turner and Fess Parker makes this one of there best. If you had to have one Rads album this would be one to have.
