An Amazing HIM CD.......2007-05-29

Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights has got to be one of the best HIM CD's.Everything from the lyrics to the amazing vocals to the music, HIM have out done themselves. This is definately a CD that you can put on and listen to over and over again. It is a must have!!!!

It all went downhill from this one on........2007-03-18

Ah yes, HIM started to go downhill after and with this one. This one I acquired after getting Razorblade Romance, Love Metal and Greatest Lovesongs, and I was quite surprised that I hadn't ever heard of this one. I got it, rushed home to listen to it, and I did, and I have been revisiting that horrid memory every time I listen to those few songs I liked in this one.

"Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights" marks the beginning of HIM's descent into mellower, less moody, wasted-potential music, which they later described as "love metal" when it had lost all connection with what it used to be. This album also marks the start of "Ten Songs Per Album" rule of HIM, guaranteeing what will most likely be a short and catastrophic listen.

"Heartache Every Moment", "Pretending", "Love You Like I Do". That's it. The rest of the album sounds like it has been taken out of some dreamy pop album with electric guitar and overall too much acoustic and cheery melodies, complete with all songs regarding love or loss thereof, as usual, however, without the edge they delivered in Greatest Lovesongs and Razorblade Romance.

This album takes a lot of getting used to, simply because it takes for you to get used to the idea HIM could have gotten this dreamy and cheerful. Like I said, after this, the band went downhill, with the brief interruption of "Love Metal".

I loved every song, especially 'Dont Close You Heart' which was a breath of fresh air, 'Beautiful', 'Prentending' and 'Close to the Flame'. It was an amazing album and i adore it no doubt!!

I was not one of their best, but I loved it anyways. To any HIM fan buy it and enjoy it. Its worth the buy!!!

Have you been properly introduced to H.I.M. yet? What are you waiting for?! This album, IMO, is the best album to get acquainted with their music. This album is kick a** from the door...not one bad song on it. This album solidified my commitment as now being forever a fan. You don't have to be GOTH to like this music. It is straight up melodic rock with catchy choruses and harmonies. The lyrics this guy writes will blow you mind. It captures you like nothing else could in music today. The sound of this band is what has been missing with the rock world for many years now. BUY IT PEOPLE!!

Cool Tracks.......2006-02-06

This album has a more laid-back feel than some of the band's other work, but it still has some very cool tracks. The music is more pop-oriented and may not completely satisfy hardcore fans, but it is still worth checking out.

This is the version of DSBH to get.. The American release is s*** compared to this import!

"You Are The One" and "In Love And Lonely" are really great songs that aren't found on the other versions - plus the video of "Pretending" is included. Makes this edition grade A.

After I bought "Razorblade Romance" I was convenced ~HIM~ was the greatest band on earth, and thanks to "Deep shadows and Brilliant highlights" I have fallen in love once again. This cd is worth dying for, and i strongly suggest you order it as soon as possible.

This is their best lp. "Salt in our wounds", "In joy and sorrow", "Pretending", "Please don't let it go", are all great pop tunes. A must buy for any HIM fan.

This is a fantastic album. Very upbeat with hidden dark passages...much like Freddy And The Dreamers of the 1960's.

This is a great album to listen to time and time again....it sounds different each time I play it. Beautiful and very soft and mello.

A Brilliant Band!.......2005-01-07

I am a new HIM fan and Deep Shadows & Brilliant Highlights is my first HIM purchase. It is well worth the money. Each song is beautifully written. Favorite tracks would have to be Close to the Flame, Salt in our Wounds, Don't Close Your Heart. The melodrama and darkness of Love You Like I Do is so intense that you feel as if in a trance listening to it. Ville's voice is amazing, great range. These songs will be stuck in your head and you'll be humming them all day!

Brilliant and Deep!!!.......2004-12-30

This HIM cd is deep and darker than Razorblade Romance, and still kicks ass like Razorblade Romance! I once again realized that I loved all of the tracks equally. Beautiful lyrics and art work on the book. Wow! HIM rocks!

Not Quite Five.......2004-12-29

No doubt that Finland produces some excellent artists and bands, and Him is one of them. The music is great, and Ville's voice is extraordinary and haunting at the same time. The best track I believe is "In Joy and Sorrow". The only drawback is that the lyrics to most of the songs are cliched and at times unoriginal. But, all in all the album is worth the buy. There's definitely a great vibe.

What can I say? This is an awsome album! It is a little bit more cachy and up beat then their previous album razorblade romance, and a little less heavy than their new album love metal. Ville Valo has a very unique voice that should be heard through out Canada. He is also very hot ;D In any case, I think you should buy this album, you will not regret.

The Real Light.......2002-03-17

I won't be long and drawn out. This gift of literature and musical balance draw the mind a picture of a life. Not an ordinary life at that. This disk flows with fluid high pitches and roars with bass. The lyrics are poems put to music. In my opinion this is an unbelievable set of songs telling a story in a way that shows the highs and lows of a life. It also shows the power that can be harnessed with a thought.
