If you are chris Rea Fan, Blue Jukebox sounds like a beautifully aged "Road to Hell" Album. Slow and very melodic. If you expect a fast Chris Rea album you will be deceived. If you have yourself aged with Chris Rea's music, this album will be a jewel, specially after being heard 3 or 4 times.
If you are new to Chris Rea's music, start with "Road to hell" instead.

I'm a big fan of Chris Rea, and I like both his blues and rock songs. I have to say that this is the best Rea's album I've bought, and I have many!. Although this album had many melodies from previous ones, but it was so distinct in it's use of Saxphone. If you liked stoney road you will love this one.

Chris Rea is back again. Pouring out what he had hidden for more than 20 years. He is the new meaning to the blues. After his surprise masterpiece double album, "Dancing down the stony road", he is here to tell us that he wants to "Paint his jukebox blue". The album is the continuation of his Stony Road CD with the addition of some excellent Saxophones. Rea plays less guitar but properly and magically. The voice is still the king and the music is a nice accompany for lonely nights. The best cuts in my opinion are: Long is the time, hard is the road; Paint my jukebox blue and Steel river Blues. Beutiful arrangement, Jazzy bluesy mood (reflective of his JazzeeBlue label) and masterful musicianship makes The Blue Jukebox a pioneer effort in Rea's resume. The howling bluesman is born. Thanks for the inspiration.

This 2 CD set by British singer and guitarist Chris Rea features his 2004 album Blue Jukebox and his 2002 album Stony Road. These albums combined feature 26 tracks. Chris enjoyed a run of popularity in Europe during the late '80s and early '90s after almost a decade of previous recording. Rea started out performing with a local group called Magdalene. Edel. 2005.

WARNING: These discs won't play on your PC or Mac.......2006-09-22

I love Chris Rea. Unfortunately, when I popped the first disc into my Mact to rip into iTunes I discovered that it was not playable on a PC or Mac! With music disseminated through my house via iTunes and various AirPortExpress hooked up to the stereo systems, I don't listen to CDs directly anymore and love the flexibility of iTunes. As a result, the entire 4,000 disc collection is buried into out of the way spaces since the physical disc approach is trumped by having the entire collection on a hard drive next to my iMac.

Now I need to go figure out how to return these expensive pieces of plastic to Amazon. :-(

excellent music and recording; flawed manual search.......2006-11-06

These songs are the "correct" versions we heard on the radio in 1966, not trial versions that sounded different as so many nostalgia CDs use. The recordings are high quality and sound great. If you let the CD play on its own, all is OK. From about #8 on, if you try to advance to the next song manually, you get an error and the CD stops. Amazon cheerfully replaced my first CD but the second one had the same problem. I kept it because of the great music.

Worth Every Penny.......2005-06-06

This is an excellent compilation of selected original hits by the original artists. I purchased the album not knowing what to expect, but I found the quality and editing to be right on the money. I'll rank this CD up there with the very best compilations on the market. I hope that this studio will produce many more yearly compilations than they already have.

HE HAS DONE BETTER, MUCH BETTER.......2000-07-10

This is the companion volume to CLASSICAL JUKEBOX Vol. 1 with Eugene Ormandy (see my review). Here we have André Kostelanetz leading his orchestra or the New York Philharmonic. The program is quite varied, going from Bach (AIR ON THE G STRING) to Weill (MACK THE KNIFE). Generally, the sound of this compilation is quite good and the recording technique superior. But this suffers in the fact that some items such as the BLUE DANUBE WALTZ by Strauss seem to be played at a pops tempo, not the real unhurried symphonic tempo. Other pieces such as the Alford COLONEL BOGEY MARCH are played with such over-bearing forces that one is left without any sense of musicality. Kostelanetz has done much better, I remember an LP of the 60's presenting 24 of the world's greatest waltzes. It had everything in the right places. This CD has little to say musically, though many could find it enjoyable.

If you are chris Rea Fan, Blue Jukebox sounds like a beautifully aged "Road to Hell" Album. Slow and very melodic. If you expect a fast Chris Rea album you will be deceived. If you have yourself aged with Chris Rea's music, this album will be a jewel, specially after being heard 3 or 4 times.
If you are new to Chris Rea's music, start with "Road to hell" instead.

I'm a big fan of Chris Rea, and I like both his blues and rock songs. I have to say that this is the best Rea's album I've bought, and I have many!. Although this album had many melodies from previous ones, but it was so distinct in it's use of Saxphone. If you liked stoney road you will love this one.

Chris Rea is back again. Pouring out what he had hidden for more than 20 years. He is the new meaning to the blues. After his surprise masterpiece double album, "Dancing down the stony road", he is here to tell us that he wants to "Paint his jukebox blue". The album is the continuation of his Stony Road CD with the addition of some excellent Saxophones. Rea plays less guitar but properly and magically. The voice is still the king and the music is a nice accompany for lonely nights. The best cuts in my opinion are: Long is the time, hard is the road; Paint my jukebox blue and Steel river Blues. Beutiful arrangement, Jazzy bluesy mood (reflective of his JazzeeBlue label) and masterful musicianship makes The Blue Jukebox a pioneer effort in Rea's resume. The howling bluesman is born. Thanks for the inspiration.
