Like Led Zeppelin some 25 years ago, the Tea Party draw from a wealth of influences and cultures to create a sound uniquely their own, exotic and earthy, with neo-progressive flourishes and Middle Eastern-sounding melodies. On The Edges of Twilight they start off with a hefty punch of finely crafted, hypnotic hard rock, and then ease the listener into a world where piano ballads, the blues, and hypnotic, sitar-laden meditations seem to fit together perfectly.

From gorgeous acoustic instrumentals to jarring teeth-rattlers, the Tea Party prove unusually adept at everything they try. Sure, they are essentially an FM rock band, having more in common with Alice in Chains and Queensryche than they may care to admit, but they have far more talent and depth than many of their rather one-dimensional contemporaries. It's this versatility and wealth of quality material that separate them from the pack. --Adem Tepedelen

3 out of 5 stars Very good Canadian modern rock band .......2007-07-15

Pretty good album from Our Canadian trio, this music is one of a kind.
Very good tracks on this one like "Correspondences" and "Sister awake"
Tea Party's album are still good to listen to, which is not the same with many band of the 90's. Music is often like wine, good stuff get often better with age, this is what happen with The Tea Party.

5 out of 5 stars Not in all the world is there something more awesome.......2007-06-13

This is the album that makes people become obsessed with The Tea Party,
It is beautiful, majestic, and epic, while at the exact same time its dark, haunting, foreboding.
A unbelievable mix of Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and Arabia, sprinkled with mysticism.
This album is so amazing, that not even The Tea Party could top it, merely come close.
If you pick up this album, get The Interzone Mantras, and Transmission while your at it.

5 out of 5 stars Unadulterated genius........2007-06-12

Hyperbole? Maybe, but I'm writing about one of my all-time favourite albums here. It was said about The Tea Party, 'to overstate the Led Zeppelin influence is to understate The Doors' influence'. True, but there is a lot more to them than just those elements (although, if 'Riders on the Storm' (The Doors without Morrison and Densmore) wanted a true replacement for Jim, they should have looked no further than the Tea Party's Jeff Martin. He not only sounds like Jim Morrison, he even looks like him!) This band has incorporated middle eastern, folk, blues plus the afore-mentioned elements into a sound distinctly their own, giving the music an atmosphere that is both palpable and ethereal. I can think of only a few albums that effect me on an emotional level the way this album does (including The Tea Party's own, although 'Splendor Solis' comes close). For my money, the high-point of the band's career.

Favourite songs: Fire in the Head, The Bazaar, The Badger, Shadows on the Mountainside.. stuff it! The whole album! (They maybe, just maybe, could have done without Roy Harper's nonsensical gibberish at the end of the album (the 'hidden' track), but this in no way detracts from the listening experience. Hence, I still give it a 5.) Oh, yeah, I almost forgot. All the band are excellent instrumentalists as well. (I should stop now. I'm beginning to seem obsequious!)

2 out of 5 stars MEDIOCRE.......2007-05-17

The instrumentation/arrangements/recording/production were flawless but the magic is not there.

There's too much of that one flavor throughout the album... It becomes tiring. Also chorus lines aren't strong enough... contrasted with their earlier album "Splendor Solis"... this album is pretty weak.

5 out of 5 stars Their other 5* album, IMO.......2006-07-03

The other being "Transmission". Very good album, from a very good band. Very unique with the mixing of blues, Eastern and industrial sounds. Fire in the Head, The Bazaar, Silence, Sister Awake, Turn the Lamp Down Low, Inanna and Coming Home are the best off this album. The Bazaar, Sister Awake (listening to it right now) and Turn the Lamp Down Low are 3 of their best songs ever, on any album. I'd get this one whenever possible. Especially, if you want to hear something unique and inspired.
