loved it!.......2007-07-16
I personally enjoyed this album, I have been a fan for awhile, so I must say that I am somewhat biased....
Truely a wonderful body of music.......2007-06-15
Oh man, where to begin? I bought this disc the week it came out and here it is 10 yrs later, and I STILL listen to it regularly. As has been mentioned here, no it's not heavy. That doesn't mean it's not good. Matter of fact, it's great. This disc meant so much to me when I first bought it, that I actually bought a few copies and gave them to friends just so they could hear this. It wasn't everyones cup o' tea but they knew how much it meant to me.
One of the Best Recrods I Have Come Across in a Long Time.......2007-04-10
From the moment I started listening to this I couldn't stop. This quickly became on of my favorite albums. If you thought it was cool when Alice in Chains release SAP and Jar of Flies, then you WILL enjoy this record. It is an amazing melange of songs that are mellow but still quite heavy. I am genuinely shocked that songs like "Way Beyond Empty" and "Road Back Home" never got air play. While "Hangover Music" comes close, I only hope that Zakk Wylde will decide to make another record of similar style and caliber.
WYLDE'S MAGNUM OPUS AND A GENUINE FIVE STAR ALBUM.......2007-01-26
There are no bad Zakk Wylde/Black Label Society albums, period, and in fact most are really good. However, this album is something very-very special, and in my opinion Zakk's best work by a large margin, which is very unusual for me to be saying because this is not Zakk's hardest/heaviest work, which is always what I gravitate towards. Every aspect of this album is wonderful and beautiful, and even though this is not even close to Zakk's hardest/heaviest work, it is also in no way a rock ballad *ank-fest, you likely already know that is not Zakk's style, as he has spent the better part of his career telling us what a bad*** he is. Everyone knows what a talented and diverse guitarist Zakk is, but I think he also has a voice that is tailor made for Rock/Metal, and on some of these tracks his vocal performance is truly phenomenal. Now, if you read my many other CD reviews you will see that I have never used the word masterpiece to describe a CD, and in the big picture of Rock/Metal as a whole I don't know if I would consider this CD at that level, maybe I would, but at any rate this is without question Zakk's masterwork. If you don't own this CD you are missing out on something truly special. This just may be a perfect album. I can not recommend this CD more highly.
A COMPLETE ROCK MASTERPIECE !!!.......2006-09-07
GREAT SONGS, GREAT PERFORMANCE, GREAT PRODUCTION, A PERFECT ALBUM. THIS ALBUM IS ZAKK'S SWAN SONG. A MUST HAVE FOR ANY ROCK FAN. NOTHING MORE TO SAY. A+++

The Blessed Hellride finds former Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist and Black Label Society frontman Zakk Wylde playing all instruments bar the drums, yet retaining an intensity that Osbourne has sadly lacked for some years. Combining the bludgeoning heaviness of Black Sabbath, the Southern flavor of the Allman Brothers, and the flashy pyrotechnics of Eddie Van Halen, Wylde delivers crushing riffs and head-spinning solos throughout such highlights as the grand "Blackened Waters," the stomping "Suffering Overdue," and "Stillborn," a pained lament for dead love that features Osbourne. Wylde owes such a debut to Black Sabbath that his voice is nearly indistinguishable from Ozzy's, and he lacks subtlety, as evinced by the clattering percussion that invades the otherwise melancholic closer "Dead Meadow". Even so, this is a cut above the heavy-rock norm. --Dominic Wills
Album Description
The premier rock guitarist of our generation and his Black Label Society cohorts have raised the bar once again with The Blessed Hellride, a triumphant album of uncompromising vision and undeniable virtuosity that brings a much needed dose of guitar fueled mastery to the national stage. 11 tracks featuring 'Stillborn' (w/special guest vocalist Ozzy Osbourne) & 'We Live No More'. Spitfire. 2003.

cotton balls in his mouth.......2007-03-27
I love how it sounds like zakk wylde has a sock in his mouth when he's singing. The extensive use of harmonics is awesome too, it reminds me of the mushrooms in mario. This is hard stuff that is pure "rock" or "metal". Check out the harmonics to the intro and verse of track 3. This guy is nuts.
Sold back within a Week.......2007-03-22
Simply put, the only song worthwile is STILLBORN, the rest of the album sounds like that group of idoits who play with their "band" in the garage down the road. You would call the cops, but then again you feel bad about how much they suck and decide they need to spend that time practicing.
A Great One.......2007-01-14
I love this one!!!! My only complaint is that it's way too short!!! I think Zakk coulda expanded and jammed on a few of these tracks, instead of leaving most of the tracks around the 4 minute mark. But if you want a good metal CD with a haedcore edge....this is it.
This CD is awesome.......2006-09-20
That one guy who said this is a redneck album is a HUGE LOSER! He probably is a hillbilly and won't admit it because he's too afraid too.Anyway this rocks the highlights are Stillborn and We Live No More.Buy It immediatley.PLease and thank you!
Stillborn is the perfect song.......2006-09-08
I'm not sure about the rest of the album but "StillBorn" is one of the best songs I have ever heard. I really mean that. That song is perfect. Perfect riff, perfect vocals, perfect lyrics, and perfect solo. The perfect song. Play it loud, play it often because it never gets old.

I was surprised to find that Black Label Society was so....diverse.If you love music , then this is a good choice for an array for your tastes.
\m/.......2007-01-12
Excellent album. By far BLS's hardest though still very well written and not lacking those sweet soft tunes Zakk surprises us with. HIGHLY recommend to all metal fans. A Black Label Society collection would not be complete without this album.
the progression of zakk.......2006-03-25
a must for any bls fan, zakks albums get better with every release & this is a few years old now,not as slick as the new mafia cd but still an awesome rocking disc, stand outs would have to be the middle few tracks, superterrorizer, cuonterfeit god & the title track,if you like good raw heavy rock or just love loud guitars then buy this.
Probably too strong for your player.......2006-02-15
This album can be summed up in a few words - it kicks absolute arse - there are some insanse solo's as you would expect from Zakk, but the riffs are literally heavy as hell. This is definitley Zakk's/BLS's most "metal" offering and has all the trademarks along with something a bit more special. Literally, the songs are stronger than death. The strength comes out in every second of every song, so if you agree with SDMF or just simply dig music that is heavy, you need to get this album.
Stronger than ?.......2005-03-29
As a guitar player, I fear Zakk Wylde as any Christian man might fear his god and listening to the complete violence, and splendor he injects into his riffing and the unsurpassed brutality of his Gibson/Marshall tone on his collaborations with Ozzy makes me want to quietly put away my guitar and never look upon it again. And so it was with some anticipation that I bought this album of Zakk's. This is a significant album for me as it the first time the bearded, hellacious one has let me down. Amongst other things, I love heavy guitar music, which Zakk, in my humble opinion, has spearheaded uncompromisingly for 15 years now.
This album however does nothing to advance him as a songwriter.
Many of the tracks here, while played with blistering passion, lack hooks or grooves and so seem to meld into each other with none really standing out. Yes, there are the trademark harmonic squeals, blazing solo's and bone crunching riffs, but the songs themselves lack any sort of hook that would keep me listening. Unlike Zakk's superb craftsmanship on his collaboration with Ozzy's songs, this album just "Bored me to Death"

Fantastic Record.......2007-04-10
If Lynyrd Skynyrd met Alice in Chains, this is the record you might get. The recording quality is a little unpolished, but that only adds to the character of the songs. While not what you might expect from the former Ozzy and soon to be BLS guitarist, this is certainly a record that anyone who like classic rock should enjoy.
Doesn't work.......2007-03-31
Sorry, this cd just isn't all that and I went and bought it based on the fact that I love Book of Shadows and read the reviews. BLS earlier stuff is awesome, and I'm into skynyrd and allman bros. and other southern rock as well as heavier music so I thought I'd like this. I don't, it doesn't work. Zakk's singing on this just pushes me away, or not sure what it is but the cd sounds like he wants to be Bob Seger - which IMO is NOT a good thing. Get Book of Shadows, which is excellent, or if you want other mellow metal from Zakk - Hangover Music Vol 6 blows this one away too.
Country Rock at its FINEST!!.......2006-11-23
I was not a big "Southern Rock" fan...until I listened to this album. Zakk Wylde is able to blend his southern rock roots (although he's from New Jersey)with his modern-style of guitar playing. The result? An amazing album that leaves listeners wondering when the next album is coming out. Unfortunately, that does not seem too likely. While all the songs are excellent, "Cry Me a River" is the highlight and illustrates that Wylde can write with more depth than most give him credit for. This album is DEFINITELY worth spending $10-15 bucks on...even if you don't like southern rock. Trust me.
pre BLS ZAKK.....why you should own it...........2006-06-06
yes it's Zakk. yes it's a masterpiece. why? well, where does one start? Zakk Wylde decided that his Ozzy Days weren't really what he was about. undoubtedly he owes his rock and roll life to the Ozzman, but he felt there was something more to share with the world. this is what he put forth. a true master work from a man who may be the rock and roll high priest of our generation. everthing that is great about rock is found within: blues, country, a little bit of soulful harmony and good old fashioned heavy metal will grace your eardrums on this gem. why try to describe each tune, when you can let the music do the talking. i bought this baby the day it was released, and have never had a single week go by when i didn't hear a track from it, be it from a mix cd, or the cd itself. do yourself a huge favor and pick it up while you're on here. too much talk can spoil the surprise. just trust me and spin it for yourself. peace.
Everyone please stop mis-leading people w/ 5 stars!!! It's about 2.5.......2005-12-31
Look, Zakk rocks. I've followed his entire career, so when I say Pride and Glory is weak, I mean it. The southern rock twinge is actually pretty cool and Zakk plays some nice solos on the softer tunes on CD. But it always goes back to the same thing for every artist--SONGWRITING. It's just not good here. Too many tracks sound alike and the songs are just thrown together. Track 5 is OK. Rest is mostly filler. Nothing you will remember 5 mins. after you change the CD. Sorry Zakk, but it sounds like you threw this together in 1 drinking binge weekend. Good move to kill the Pride. Now if you want good acoustic and blues from Zakk, get BOOK OF SHADOWS. It blows away this lame effort. Pride and Glory should only be purchased from the bargin bin. ROCK ON BLS

Big brother style CD encryption? Check........2007-05-30
Now, don't get me wrong, the music contained on the CD is stellar. Top notch. From what I've been able to hear, it's really great.
My problem is with the CD itself and the encryption used on it. When I plugged it into my Windows machine and attempted to play it using WinAmp, there were no files detected on the CD. Curious, I chose to explore the CD to see what was the matter. And I found a grand total of 3 files. I tried disabling AutoPlay, and still have this issue. The CD will play if I use Windows Media Player, but I find that that particular player cuts out partway through songs, won't play the disk from start to finish, and it uses up too much resource to leave it running in the background.
I find this extremely distasteful and have grown quite upset with the CD itself. I won't be purchasing anything more from this band if this is how they're going to encrypt their products, despite how good their music is.
Nothing like it.......2006-03-08
Let me put my 2 cents in real quick. I just went through the entire album, my sister has been trying to get me to for a while. Let me just say that this is never coming out of my CD player for a LONG time. Each song beautifully transistions to the next, and... it's hard to explain the emotions you get, its something you have to experience yourself. This is a music lovers cd, go and get it.
Electric Cellos?.......2005-12-12
Wow another effort by Apocalyptica! I loved Plays Metallica by Four Cellos and Inquisition Symphony has to be one of my favorite albums of all time. But there is something about Cult that fails to grab me. This time they bring in a distortion that sounds like they are playing Electric Cellos, and a few drums and symbols here and there. This sounds promising but I found several of the songs like Coma to be extremely slow and boring. There aren't any songs like Harmageddon. All the songs are technically good and musically brilliant but only about half the songs stand out. The CD also feature a guest female vocalist on Path Vol. 2 and a music video for it as well. My favorite song has to be their cover of the classic song Hall of the Mountain King which is executed perfectly. Then there are two metallica covers, Until is Sleeps is boring and the only post black album cover that I am aware of. Fight Fire with Fire makes up for it and is worthy of any praise. Something just doesn't sound the same. Maybe it's the small amount of covers but there aren't a whole lot of spectacular songs on Cult. Pick up Inquisition Symphony instead for complete perfection.
Awesome.......2005-08-27
Path was the first Apocalyptica song I heard, and I was immediately hooked. Just the idea of metal with cellos is the kind of thing where you think, "Hmmmm. That's just crazy enough to work." And it does work magnificently. The combination of fast-paced, metal-inspired songs like Hyperventilation and slower, classically based songs like Coma works very well. This CD, like their previous ones, still isn't 100% original. This doesn't take away from the CD at all though, it is still an amazing disc.
Excellent Product I Reccommend For Sure.......2005-02-21
After I heard just the first song on this cd I thought this group rocked. I work at a pavilion and listen to alot of music, and Apocalyptica just kicked the new world of rock. Most of there other music is great as well, hope to hear more from them.

My God, have I been in a hole somewhere? How did I miss these guys?
1919 Eternal is a blistering, withering, furious, head-banging assault of full-bore, confident metal: I picked it up not knowing what to expect---I thought, vaguely, that BLS was some bourbon-fueled Ozzy vanity project---popped it into the hopper, and seconds later, stunned and delighted, cranked up the volume setting to DEFCON-1. Within seconds, the rafters were shaking, trees and grass turned yellow and died, and frantic, furious neighbors called the cops.
Zakk Wylde and his band of musical mercenaries (including current Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo) are solid musicians. "1919 Eternal" brews up some tasty metal: Good lyrics, crunching base, strong, mordant rhythms---not the prissy, mincing, navel-gazing "math-metal" so popular at the moment---not tiresome at all, not tediously technical, just heavy as a battleship and twice as brutal.
Good metal for me? The kind of gut-stomping, hard-core, moody, melancholic, doom-laden stuff---power metal, with a little thrash, a little Death---that puts me in the mood to don my steel-horned helmet and ram my head into the wall, then trash my apartment. That kind of stuff. *This* kind of stuff. It's that good. Why the Hell are you reading this---go buy 1919 Eternal now, and bang your head!
But that might be a little unfair to Zakk and his rebel crew, because---for every snorting, ripping warhorse like "Bleed for Me", "Battering Ram", and "Berserkers"---this is a taut, trained, disciplined band of musicians, calling to mind Iced Earth in their ability to quickly lock it down and Jesus, just *groove*, as with "Bridge to Cross" and "Lost Heaven".
Like Iced Earth, yes---but more hellbent, far more brutal, and reeking of Jack Daniels and bloodshed.
This is the kind of music the Kurgan would dig. You know, the Kurgan---the immortal bada** from the Russian Steppes in Highlander, the guy who lashed up his gaping neck-wound with safety pins and who---hell, by sheer a**-kickery alone---should have taken the Prize and McLeod's head?
Yeah. The Kurgan would rock to Zakk Wylde. He'd load up "Berserker", and then he would thrash Hell out of every living thing, and wear their faces, and laugh like a demon.
Let's paint the town Red.
Enjoy.
JSG
I bled for you.......2006-09-22
Everyone knows Zakk Wylde heck he's Ozzy's right hand man and obviously an amazing guitarist, but does he have his own band? Has he ever thought about making an album (a few albums) with a band of his own? YES!!!!!! I borrowed this album from a friend a few months back and I was not dissapointed. This is an awesome album.... one of my favorites. From the intro "Bleed for Me" to the follow up "Lords of Destruction" and then "Demise of Sanity", this album goes on and on with awesome tracks by Zakk Wylde and the Black Label Soceity. I mean who coulda thought that that voice would finaly come out, but hey I'm glad it did.

Bleed Black Label!!!!.......2006-03-04
Its a toss up for me so far,i cant decide weather this one or the blessed hellride is my favorite. But yeah i was at the cd store deciding between this cd and stronger than death and for some reason i chose this one but wasnt for 100 percent sure why.Well i got it home and now i have listened to this cd about 10-15 times so far, heres my short reviews of the songs:
Bleed For Me- 10/10 Killer track!
Lords Of Destruction- 9/10 This was one of the first songs i heard from bls and would have gave it a 10 but i heard it a good bit
Demise Of Sanity- 10/10 Very catchy song
Life, Birth, Blood, Doom- 10/10 One of my favorites on the cd
Bridge To Cross- 10/10 Slower song but still good, anyone who says zakk can't sing they need to listen to this song and then tell me he can't sing.
Battering Ram- 10/10 Another catchy chorus yet awesom song
Speedball- 10/10 Guitar solo thats a really short track
Graveyard Disciples- 10/10 Another killer song!
Genocide Junkies- 9/10 Good song, just dont appeal to me as much
Lost Heaven- 10/10 My favorite next to L,B,B,D.Slower song,Zakks awesom singing voice

Mass Murder Machine- 8/10 Same comment as the song above it
Berserkers- 9/10 One of my favorite drinking songs
America The Beautiful- 9/10 I hate to give this song a lower rating because this cd is dedicated to Zakks dad (it says it in the booklet) but yeah not into insturmentals as much.
Bleed For Me (I've bleed for you).......2006-03-01
This is my Favorite Black Label Society Album. Except Speedball, Every track is a keeper. If BLS is new to you, 1919 Eternal is a great place to start! This Album has a bit of everything. And ends with a tribute to Zakk's father (America the Beautiful).

Craveman proves the Nuge proves can still churn out likeable, loutish lyrics with unwavering energy and conviction. "Rawdogs & Warhogs" is "Dog Eat Dog" for the new millennium, while "Klstrphnky," though offensive lyrically ("Look at all the dirty nookie / It's all infected HIV!"), explores the nu metal vein with surprising musicality. While songs and solos sometimes sound recycled, Craveman is one of Nugent's stronger recent efforts, thanks to well-crafted songs that are by turns patriotic, boastful, and silly. Ultimately, they're as earthy, powerful, and primal as the macho man who's created them. --Katherine Turman
Album Description
Making his 31st recording, Craveman finds young Ted particularly amped and gloriously pissed off in a way that will remind fans of his earlier pivitol recordings. The album is rife with manifestos of fierce independence, sex and living out loud with titles like 'Crave', 'Rawdogs & Warhogs' and 'Pussywhipped.' Spitfire. 2002.

Ted embraces nu-metal with mixed results.......2006-06-15
After a long recording hiatus, Ted Nugent released Craveman in 2002. Rather than continue in the hard rock direction of his most successful releases, as well as his last studio album, the excellent Spirit of the Wild, Ted went in a heavier direction more suited toward the alternative metal that was popular at the time. Also worth noting is that long time collaborator Derek St. Holmes is once again out of the loop and the results are apparent on the album. Quite simply, Ted is at his best with Derek and without him, his albums lack focus. The first track "Klstrphnky" is a good example of this as it sounds more like Kid Rock than Nugent. However, the next track "Crave" is killer, showing that even is in his mid-50's, the Nuge still could create riffs that are both wicked and memorable. After this, the album bounces from very good to very mediocre. The very good includes "Damned If Ya Do", a great melodic rocker featuring former Damn Yankees bandmates Tommy Shaw and Jack Blades, and "Sexpot", which has a very cool groove. And speaking of "Sexpot", the songs here also have more sexual overtones than on any of his albums. "Cum N Gitya Some of This" and "My Baby Likes Butter on Her Gritz" are both very good and carried by very killer riffs. However, tracks like "Pussywhipped", "Change My Sex", and "Goin' Down Hard" are just plain filler. Ted also uses a lot of recycled riffs as the decent "I Won't Go Away" borrows from both past Nugent classics "Just What The Doctor Ordered" and "Workin' Hard, Playin' Hard" while "Wang Dang Doodle" is just a bad rewrite of "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang." With all the inconsistency, the closing instrumental "Earthtones" actually redeems the album and is the only track that is on par with his classic `70s material. All told, while Craveman is Ted Nugent's heaviest album and he is still an amazing guitarist, it's a step down from Spirit of the Wild and a far cry from his best work.
Somebody stop me!!.......2006-03-21
Hey Zeppfan. Ted IS the singer!!!! lol He is still the Motor City Madman!!
Ted's still got it!.......2006-02-27
While Ted's guitar work is really great on this album, I hate the vocals. It's that possessed, untalented, grunting type of vocals that are so omnipresent today.
If Ted has used the singer on "Cat Scratch Fever" on this album, this album would rate 5 stars in my book, but with present vocals, it rates only a three.
Get a new singer Ted!!!

If Ozzy Osbourne is the self-anointed Prince of Darkness, what does that make Glenn Danzig? The Duke of Doom, perhaps? Since the early 1980s with the Misfits and Samhain, then from 1988 with his eponymous band, the distinctive tenor of Glenn Danzig has driven his foreboding goth metal. I Luciferi stays true to his successful, occasionally silly gloom-grind formula, as evidenced by song titles such as "Black Mass," "Naked Witch," and "Dead Inside." "Kiss the Skull" smacks of Marilyn Manson's militant "Beautiful People," though it's not as memorable, while the funeral, churchy, Type O Negative-like "The Coldest Sun" and the scorching "Halo Goddess Bone" are two more standouts. "Without Light, I Am" is a suitably spooky closer to this surprisingly strong showing. -- Katherine Turman

So much for trusting the reccomendations.......2007-03-20
When I was in high school I loved Danzig, Samhain, the Misfits, and I listened to them incessantly. I was a huge fan of Danzig (the band) especially. I remember showing up at the CD store when it opened to buy "How the Gods Kill" (on my 10-speed!) the day it was released. All of his albums had a slightly different feel, but from the gritty "Danzig" to the more atmospheric & cerebral "4" they were all great no matter the style.
Then came "Blackacidevil". I seem to be in the majority that doesn't like this album. I actually hated it & was horrified that not only did the music (drums included) sound like they had been run through a $19.00 fuzz pedal, but that the VOCALS were too. I gave up on Danzig at that moment. Ironically, this was also about the time when I graduated college & got a real job and the acquisition of heavy metal CDs ceased to be the primary focus of my life.
Then Amazon reccomended some Danzig to me & I read the reviews of this CD, "Circle of Snakes", & "666". I found that most fans agreed with me that Danzig peaked with the 1st 3 albums & that "Blackacidevil" was nearly universally loathed. However, many reviewers were calling this CD and the next ("Circle of Snakes") a return to form. I believed, & I bought this one just to see if maybe it wasn't too good to be true.
Here's the truth in a nutshell. Glenn isn't singing like he used to. Some people say he can't physically do it. Maybe that's just a rumor, but even if he can still belt it out, he obviously doesn't want to, because his style is much more subdued here. Also, it is obvious to me at this point that John Christ, Eerie Von, & Chuck Biscuits were part of the songwriting process for the first few albums, because the "feel" of those albums versus everything else he has ever done, from The Misfits to Samhain to "Blackacidevil" (which represents the 1st album without them in the lineup) is radically different. This album doesn't out-and-out suck like "Blackacidevil" did, but if it were the 1st thing I had ever heard by him I would never have bothered to check out anything else. It has a few decent songs, but nothing worth buying the album for, in my opinion.
I may check out his next one which is supposedly going to be a blues-based collaboration with Jerry Cantrell. I won't bother with "666" or "Circle of Snakes" unless I find them used for a couple bucks. It's a shame that he can't get the old band back together again though.
a mixed bag.......2007-02-24
This is one of those albums that's both good and bad. Some of the riffs are incedible, but it seems like its performed a bit by the numbers. 'Black Mass' is easily too long and should have had a shortened intro. Even adding a few tympani hits or something to the beginning would have helped.
That's only a minor complaint. The rest of this album is suprisingly good. It was almost a return to form. The next album would achieve this. It seems to be that it took two albums (6 and this one) to get back to the sound he had for the first albums.
'Wicked Pussycat' is not a good song however and should not have been used for the 'single'. 'God Of Light' is a great little rocker but 'Liberskull' is a bit overlong and not well written. To make up for this 'Dead Inside' is a great quiet song that gets nice and heavy. I personally think the rimshots over the quiet parts are a bit too forceful and should have been played alot softer. It would have given the heavy part much more weight. 'Naked Witch' has a great riff and a wonderful drum solo bit at the end. 'Angel Blake' is another great song. Just listen to Joey Castillo's drum fills on this one. Incredible!
'The Coldest Sun' is one of the better songs here. Halo Goddess Bone is another strong song. But the best is saved for last (of course) and 'Without Light, I Am' is a great ending to this album.
So this is a strong album, if a little bit uneven. But once again, because of the great sequencing of these songs, the bad songs don't seem so bad when surrounded by better songs. And the three strong songs at the end make the album end on a high note (or three).
The songs are a bit better here and so is the production. But 25 plus years of screaming has taken its toll on his voice. So only 4 stars for this one. But this album is still worthy of a listen. So pick it up.
Inconsistent but damn good Danzig.......2007-01-06
For me, you won't find better Danzig song's than Black Mass and Kiss the Skull. Perfectly exectued darkness. Lovely. That said, I also like Dead Inside, I Luciferi and Halo Godess Bone which has a sick riff. The rest are mostly average.. but those songs mentioned above alone put this release above a large number of death metal releases out there.
Danzig is usually under appreciated - mostly because he has been around this long and his standards have been so high from the beginning. He may never reach the expectations of perfection but Danzig never fails to entertain and impress regardless.
rob zombie's I Luciferi, featuring glenn danzig as guest frontman.......2006-06-01
i've been a rather large danzig fan and have had this cd for a long while. it was gathering dust until one day i was into a real danzig frenzy. i had thought it was cool when i first got it, so right after i finished listening to danzig 4, i put this one right on. this album really is a bad example of stubborness.(like someone else mentioned)i think the reviewer who stated that he should ditch the nu-metal and go acoustic is very right. i mean, circle of snakes is an awesome album, not nearly as lame as this, but again nowhere near the greatness of the first 4. just look at the cover and linear notes. that says rob zombie right there! who else poses with naked chicks in heavy face make-up besides rob zombie? cirlce of snakes does that too, but at least the music is ten times better.
save your money for the first 4 danzig albums...or better yet, get some samhain cds!
These people are crazy.......2006-03-27
I think Danzig is the finest artist of the last 30 years, but even I had to draw the line somewhere. This album is weak. There is no feeling at all in it. Glenn is just going through the motions. He realized that going industrial was a mistake and this was his attempt to go back to having a traditional band sound. There are only 2 or 3 songs worth anything.

But beware!!.......2007-06-24
As awesome as this CD is, don't be fooled by the picture of the cover art as shown. Due to a law suit from Johnny Walker, the cover art had to be changed. What you will get is a plain b&w photo with their trademark skull. But the bonus tracks that the original didn't have will obviously make you forget about the cover!!
Heavy bone-crunching rock and roll.......2006-07-08
My first experience with Zakk's playing was with Ozzy. Then on his "Boozed, Broozed & Broken Boned" DVD, in the interview extra he mentioned that Al DiMeola was one of his influences and this peaked my curiosity to check out his solo work. Three discs later, I can say that his output as a leader is consistent; he's a hell of a guitar player (not a great singer), and writes some heavy rock and roll songs. The only complaint I have is that this disc is LOUD, so much in fact, that distortion (not from the guitar) is audible and there is no dynamic range. Otherwise, a solid rock and roll disc.
Terrible.......2005-05-12
If you like Zakk Wylde's work with Ozzy, then don't spend your money on this garbage for it will forever tarnish the image of the guitarist for you. This is just ultra-sloppy, unoriginal metal. Guitar solos are pretty much absent, and most of the songs sound the same. I'm pretty sure Mr. Wylde was actually drinking black label when he wrote and recorded this. He put out *3* solid albums with Ozzy, and unfortunately, that will be the high point of his career.
Heavy rock/metal...with style.......2005-04-14
I cannot understand why people think that 1919 Eternal is superior to Sonic Brew - this album features all the best riffs, singing and solo's. For example, the epic remake of 'Peddlers Of Death', which starts softly then explodes, or 'The Rose Petalled Garden' with a wailing lead guitar over haunting chords, the catchy 'Batch of Lies'. The rythm on 'Born To Lose' and the lead on 'Low Down' even sounds slightly funky! 'Beneath the Tree' is one of my all time favourite BLS songs - it combines heavy with melody - something not many heavy bands can achieve. Wylde shows off his skills in 'T.A.Z' - proving he is one of the cleanest pickers ever - not a note is out of place, and he's on an acoustic!
The strange, synthed 'Black Pearl' is haunting - and like many of the songs on here just explodes into the trademark riffery and pinched harmonics. 'World Of Trouble' has to be one of Wyldes most catchy choruses and one of his best solo's ever. 'Spoke In The Wheel' is kind of reminiscent of Book Of Shadows and lets the ears recover after the blistering World Of Trouble. The only downside, in my opinion, is the mushy cover of No More Tears - you just cannot touch that classic, but when I have 12 others to listen to who cares?
Some people may find the lyrics questionable on some of the songs ("Hey, Hey, You, What You Gonna Do?") and the bass on 'Bored To Tears' is slightly annoying after a while - but hey, then you listen to Spoke In The Wheel and Peddlers Of Death and the doubts disappear. The riffs on this album are more catchy, Zakks voice is better and the songs don't sound hastily rushed. Buy it now!
Good, but not great.......2005-01-05
There's no denying that Zakk Wylde is one hell of a guitarist, and I've loved other BLS albums, such as The Blessed Hellride and Hangover Music, Vol. VI, but this one just left me unsatisfied. The guitar is great, no doubt, but the songs just don't stick with me. The sound is not great on some tracks, and sometimes Wylde's voice is drowned out by the music. With the exception of Bored To Tears and T.A.Z., none of the songs really stick with me after I listen to the album. No doubt that it's a good album, but just not up to par for BLS.

The next time your mother tells you to eat your green beans because people are starving in Africa, you might reference "Eat Some More," one of 11 ferocious tracks on Alice Cooper's appropriately titled Brutal Planet. Though the artist who's arguably the greatest influence on Marilyn Manson has been doing this for longer than most Manson fans have been alive, he's still getting a lot of mileage out of the Angry Young Man archetype. Forget most of what he did in the late 1970s and early '80s; most people probably have. But since 1989's Trash, Cooper's turned out fresher and better recordings than the vast majority of his musical descendants, and Brutal Planet is no exception. The fact that it's a concept album is neither here nor there. Sure, there's quite a bit of cerebral content, but Brutal Planet is not a lecture. It's a rant, as enraged as anything any artist half Cooper's age could come up with, but with the perspective of someone old enough to know better. Alice Cooper, environmental activist? Well, stranger things have happened. --Genevieve Williams
Customer Reviews:
A CLASSIC FROM ALICE.......2007-05-29
Brutal planet is one of best albums of the last few years. Released in 2000, it contains some great songs with a different type of hard rock sound. Some say it is Nu-metal, but i love this album. It contains 11 tracks or 12 on some issues of the album. The extra track is Cant sleep, clowns will eat me. Back to the album, it really delivers the goods from the opening title track with an unforgettable riff. Do yourself a favour and buy this if you are into alice. Other great tracks include sanctuary, blow me a kiss, pick up the bones, gimme, it's the little things & cold machines.
Coopers Heaviest Album.......2006-12-17
The second album in Cooper's Christian morality play trilogy finds Cooper and the band in "brutal" form. This is a seriously heavy album, but not in the same way as his 80's hair metal period. This down and dirty heavy ground rumbling metal release. Musically Cooper goes in a completely different direction from his last disc, but it comes off as fresh and relevant. There is very little of the trademark Cooper humor to be found here. The Coop is pissed off and not going to take it any more. The lyrics are very serious dealing with the state of the world we live in today. The album is a full on rant with one of Alice's most powerful collection of musicians backing him up. The album was co-written with guitar, bass, keys man Bob Marlette. The band also features ex Kiss drummer Eric Singer and guitarist Ryan Roxie who would become Cooper's main writing partner on the next few albums after this one. "Brutal Planet" is the darkest, heaviest album of Cooper's career and just about every song on it is a good one. Some highlights include the opener "Brutal Planet" pounds the listener with the description of a world where existence is indeed perilous and difficult. Cooper's vocal sneer indeed conjures up images of a truly loathsome place. "Sanctuary" is a comment on 9 to 5 working "zombies" and the life they (us) live in. "Eat Some More" takes on the subject of world starvation as only Alice could word it. "It's The Little Things" is the only song on the album with even a trace of humor. It harkens back to the past by quoting "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and "Welcome To My Nightmare". "Pessi Mystic" almost sounds like Black Sabbath at times finding Alice taking on psychics, and CNN with the chorus of "shut up, shutp" it is another powerful vicious song "Take It like A Woman" is pretty much a sequel to "Only Women Bleed". The album closer "Cold Machines" sees Cooper beating modern day wannabe Marylyn Manson at his own game. All the rest of the songs on the album are also solid. After a career as long as Alice's he really has nothing left to prove, but on "Brutal Planet" he proves that he can still put out relevant thought provoking music as good as people half his age.
Yikes and Wow.......2006-11-15
Good God almighty, where in the world did this come out of? No album by Alice in his catalog could possibly be as unexpected as this, except for "Dada". What made "Dada" so amazing was its sheer genius in the midst of the novelty-wasteland of Alice's output at the time. This album is at least slightly prepared-for by "The Last Temptation," although the dead-eyed, laser-focused commitment of this album makes "Last Temptation" something of a nature walk.
The album opens with "Brutal Planet," and from the very first bars, you can already tell something serious is going on: "We're spinning round on this ball of hate" is the first line of lyrics, accompanied by a big metal chug-a-lug. And then, lyrically, it's all downhill from there. A relentlessly nihilistic critique. But what steps this up even one more notch of awfulness (good awfulness, mind you) is the Heavenly chorus of angelic types, who see the earth as perfect, lovely, wonderful. With a snarl that Alice has rarely lavished on anything with such fire, he invites these heavenly naifs to come down to earth and check it out. Meanwhile, the music is equally relentless, and every bit worthy of the sentiment expressed.
With "Vicious Young Man," Alice lets the mind of a Columbine-type teen get his lyrical ya-yas out. Alice has always had a particularly keen social eye, but here he has nailed ... hell, I'm not going to resort to a platitude. The piece is especially acerbic next to the next song, "Sanctuary," which is the 20- or 30-something version of the wicked young man's angst. In both cases, the heavy, snazzy guitar work keeps things moving along at a brutal pace. At least for the chorus of this song, there's a certain irony that provides a sort of relief from the granite-grimness of the foregoing.
It is apparent from this album that Alice has nothing to prove, because he doesn't need to. Even so, with the opening lick of "Blow me Away," one is put slightly in the mind of Korn. Moreover, the psychological skewed gender politics one might conceivably apply to Korn are here made explicit: "Blow me a kiss cuz I'm black, blow me a kiss cuz I'm gay ... blow me away." The kind of defiance in "Brutal Planet," that challenged Heaven itself to come down and be held accountable for the mess on earth, here is embodied in the person who is the target of the world's wicked young men: "Blow me a kiss then blow me away."
In "Eat Some More (Taste the Pain)," over-consumption, world starvation, and wasting food comes into the laser-focus of Cooper's critique. Whatever possible kitsch this could result in, the heaviness of the music practically forces one to take it all very seriously, even when the lyrics seethe with sarcasm, "It's not nice to waste." In particular, the lyrics seem aimed to nauseate. While in "Pick up the Bones," equally unnerving lyrics, with scattered bodies and a setting that is the shattered ruins of some unnamed place, tells the story of some otherwise unidentified massacre. What is noticeably missing from all of this is Alice's usual irony, and the result is really very amazing. His dark intelligence blisters through this music with a scourge-like sense of a juggernaut--and the music keeps pace continuously, as the ample, musical version of Cooper's lyrics.
"Pessi-Mystic" gives a break from the heavy music at first, with an acoustic eerie opening, that seems to allude to the song "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath. This is short lived, and more heavy music comes blistering along. And once again, Cooper gives voice to another bleak character, who growls, "I can't hear a word you say, so shut up, shut up, shut up"--a spot-on expression of today's pessimistic types.
"Gimme" starts also with a friendly little thing but Cooper is not about to let up. Seconds into the song, the next heavy, blazing riff comes blasting out. In this particular case, uninhibited acquisitiveness is married to Satanic overtones of selling one's soul to a false friend--at least until "Kneel down and tell me what you need." Is it God talking then? The narrator should be the devil but ... The milky irony of the vocals here at least provides some relief from the relentless assault. Moral ambiguity and grinding gruitars.
"It's the Little Things" is the closest to old, funny Alice this album offers: "You can burn my house ... but if you talk in the movies I'll kill you right there. It's the little things." By close, this doesn't mean very close. The novelty here is a bit too forefronted, but there has to be a breather somewhere, right?
In the previous song, the lyrics allude to "Welcome to my Nightmare" and "No More Mr. Nice Guy." In "Take it Like a Woman" the sudden and startling piano ballad obviously glances back at "Only Women Bleed." Not exactly unempathetic, it also (as the title suggests) does not favorably look upon taking it like a woman. Even so, "I know you must have felt the pain." This is as close to empathetic as the album gets.
The closer, "Cold Machines," starts off with an obvious allusion to Marilyn Manson, although the lyrical terrain that shimmers and flickers between the death-march chords is some mental asylum world of robots kind of place--a conflation of cold, impersonal machines--all attached to the chorus, where the narrator declares he doesn't want to be just a memory.
In all, with the exception of the comparatively "light" "Take it Like a Woman," this album is non-stop from one end to the other. Admittedly, almost thankfully, the relentlessness does somewhat let up toward the end of the disc (from "It's the Little Things" on). Nevertheless, it's hardly something one would want to listen to every day. One star off for the let up of pressure on the last three songs, even if I'm grateful for it.
If "Brutal Planet" truly conjures a brutal world, then this is an eminently worthy sound track for it. To have expected something this ferocious out of Cooper at this point would be definitely long-odds, but Cooper has long proved himself capable of bucking the odds.
Alice, Brutal Alice.......2006-08-16
Been a fan of AC since I was 4 (now 33). This is his BEST album ever!!! Still, it predacessors: DRAGONTOWN, THE EYES OF ALICE COOPER and DIRTY DIAMONDS can't touch this album. (Though EYES is a great, fun AC album, too).
This album is, well, BRUTAL. Lyricly it's sinister, tough and thought provoking with social angst=All the essential elements of a great AC album. It's all here on the title track,Eat Some More, Pick Up the Bones, Wicked Young Man and Blow Me A Kiss. Like Bob Ezrin did with KISS on REVENGE, he helps out again the Legendary Alice to make a top notch, heavy rock album. (Plus Eric Singer of KISS (The new CATMAN) drums on this Alice Gem = and Also did on the KISS: REVENGE album!!). From start to finish, you can't just listen to a handfull of tracks or listen to it halfway/It's the type of album you pop into the cd player and let it Rip!!! The production is awesome, sound is balls to the wall and all the track orders is the perfect flow of heavy hitting rock n' roll by the Godfather of Theatrical Rock!!! If I could, I'd give the cd 10 stars!!! FANTASTIC HEAVY ROCK ALBUM. Buy it!! It'll be worth every penny to have this cd in your heavy rock collection!!
Gotta love Alice!.......2006-07-31
This is one of my favorite albums by the master of shock rock himself ALICE COOPER! Alot heavier than previous albums, this record deals with Heaven and Hell, evils of man, death and destruction, loss and loneliness. A great album. brutal and soft at the same time. Another amazing release from Cooper.
