5 out of 5 stars Whew - White Stripes fans are fickle!!.......2005-11-10

"My Doorbell" introduced me to Jack White's song-writing genius - possibly the best that America has produced since Dylan. The video with all the kids is a work of art. All I can say to the person who doesn't like the song because it lacks an electric guitar is "your loss."

Then there's the individual who wants to dump all his White Stripe CDs because Jack White is writing a song for Coca-Cola. Here's a news flash; Mozart, Haydn and Hendrix were all commercially successful!! No joke. For those who maintain that artistic quality and commercial success cannot peacefully co-exist, I have a simple two word response; "Grateful Dead", who would still be amassing millions playing sold-out football stadiums if Garcia were gratefully alive.

Remember "I Will Remember You"? That's right; the Divine Ms. Mac sold a song to a commercial, ensuring that her daugher will someday attend Harvard, or a comparably-priced school. Anybody who uses that as an excuse to not listen to her anymore needs medication. Bottom line; snobs miss out on a lot of good stuff.

5 out of 5 stars excellent.......2005-09-26

very soulful & bluesy. great piano work by jack. this is a piano & drum track, not a guitar & drum track that we've been accustomed to. The song works on many levels, it is both catchy, artsy, and has an authentic blues piano vibe. Whats not to love? The vocals are great. This has to be their most accessible song to date.

5 out of 5 stars 'My Doorbell' kicks arse, despite misguided insults........2005-09-23

Despite what Madam Shepherd over here says, 'My Doorbell' is a great song in an album of excellent songs.

Firstly, how many other people do you know of that can fit so many syllables within three lines?

Finally, here's where I get personal.

"But this. I bought the album relishing in anticipation for a great album after 4 excellent examples of, and what do I get? Banjo's [sic] (never mix them with rock unless you are a band called the grid), plinky plonky piano. Where is the hard blues rock of Fell [In] Love With A Girl? Where is the grinding base [sic] that is black math? Where is the country essence of Hotel Yorba? Nowhere is where. This song is a prime example of why you should never look a book by its cover. "

It's called Artistic Development. Is there any reason why Jack and Meg White should be hampered from trying out newer areas of their music, just because certain fans think that they should stay musically frozen in time for centuries? Absolutely not. I'll tell you where these things are - in the past!

Finally - calling him 'Jacky Boy.' Unless you are Meg White or Karen Elson, you have absolutely no business calling him that.

1 out of 5 stars What is this all about jacky boy???.......2005-09-18

Jack White... I love him. Meg white I love you to hunny.

But really what is this song all about. I mean why when you start an album with a song as potentially rocking as Blue orchid do go from that to this?? I mean take Elephant. We had the note perfect 7 nation army (which by the way is a one of my favs of all time) and then that was followed with a previous B-side but still great take on a great song I just don't know what to do with myself. Even Hardest button to button was o.k if not for his dodgy tash.

But this. I bought the album relishing in anticipation for a great album after 4 excellent examples of and what do I get. Banjo's (never mix them with rock unless you are a band called the grid), plinky plonky piano. Where is the hard blues rock of fell love with a girl? Where is the grinding base that is black math? Where is the country essence of Hotel yorba? Nowhere is where. This song is a prime example of why you should never look a book by its cover.

Once you are intiated into the hollywood circle of flakes your talent goes down the same pan your excess cocaine does after snorting a line.

Advice - Stick to re-upholstering couches Jacky-boy!

I'm pretty sure the B-side is the version on Walking With A Ghost. If you already have the album and Walking With A Ghost then this is pointless to own.
