Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Stick to the originals.......2007-06-20

I'm a big Denver fan, but the original recordings to me were near perfect. I purchased this because everyone gave it such rave reviews. Yes, his voice is strong, but it also seems more forced - like he was trying to prove how well he could sing. Several of the recordings reminded me of someone trying to sing them in a choir, with vibrato and vocal tricks.

Call me stubborn, but I think that only seriously serious Denver fans need this cd in their collection. If you like comparing one recording to the other, then by all means, buy it. If you want memories, stick to the originals.

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievably beautiful CD.......2006-12-21

I thought I had heard the absolute best of John Denver - I'm a huge fan, and have pretty much everything he has recorded. This CD almost replaces them all - all of the songs have been rerecorded and updated, and his voice has never been more powerful. And I thought "Windsong" couldn't get any better! This recording is NOT live, like the title on the web page says, and is not just John and his guitar...there are plenty of songs with an orchestral background. This version of "Annie's Song" is just gorgeous, and "For You" has much more piano than the original recording. "I'm Sorry" sounds so much fuller with the addition of bass and drums. I know it sounds corny, but this CD will bring you to tears - it's simply that beautiful. What a huge, huge loss when we lost John Denver. If you're a fan, you cannot miss this one - he has never been better.

5 out of 5 stars John Denver Unplugged.......2006-07-26

This is a very nice collection. The recordings don't deviate too much from the original recordings. I really enjoyed this CD and think you will enjoy it also. If you are a John Denver fan, I recommend that you add this to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars John Denver Unplugged.......2006-03-21

Wonderful, rich, mature voice a must have! Many new songs that I'd never heard.

5 out of 5 stars Just a great album.......2006-01-29

I've loved John Denver since I was a kid. I'd listen to him on my parent's 8-track and watch for him religiously on The Muppet Show! This album has to be his finest. I have several of his CDs and it is a treat to listen to his early stuff and then to put this one on. His voice has a richness and purity to it that only comes from wisdom and experiences (not to mention decades of singing). The maturity of his voice and his emotions in this one just go right through you. Especially in "For You." It's just heart-breaking that there won't be anything new from him ever again. He is one that will stand the test of time.

3 out of 5 stars Worth a listen.......2005-10-01

This disc serves a number of purposes, all good. First of all, it's a sampler disc, giving you a taste of some music you might otherwise not hear. Secondly, acoustic versions (and live ones, for that matter) allow other interpretations by the original artists, which you seldom hear outside the concert venue. Overall, the quality and selections are good, and I got a chance to hear Henley do a cover of "Rain or Shine", which was worth the price of the disc.

2 out of 5 stars One good track.......2005-09-29

Ok - maybe two good tracks.

Stevie Ray Vaughan opens the album with a powerful voice and a 12 string accoustic. We miss you Stevie.

But for me the album is worth it for the blues version of Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lennie Kravitz.

Why not just download those tracks from iTunes.

5 out of 5 stars Fun Disc.......2005-07-15

This is a fun disc to throw in the stereo while you're working. Filled with some old favorites, each done with a unique twist. Enjoyable.

One of the finest compilation discs ever assembled

2 out of 5 stars WE WANT THAT SRV MTV!.......1999-02-26

I just want to know why MTV would hold back these live unplugged jams of Stevie Ray Vaughan playing a 12 string? .....wish they would come out with a video or just the SRV songs on a disk....I bet thay would make alot of money off it.

4 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable, Even If Not Groundbreaking.......1998-12-19

A real enjoyable collection of tracks, many of which make you wonder about those acts which have been chosen for the entire unplugged CD routine. Neil Young, Eric Clapton, 10000 Maniacs, Bob Dylan, Tony Bennett, and Nirvana were all deserving. But Babyface? Mariah Carey? Maxwell???? Thankfully, at least they don't appear on this collection. Few of those appearing here don't belong. (I have to wonder why Dylan, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Bennett were not included though!) A note to MTV....time for a second "Collection" as well as full unplugged CD's by Tori Amos and Stevie Ray Vaughn!!!!

P.W. Gopal is an amazing singer. I am in love with his voice. I have seen him live and that is how I first heard his music. I since then got a CD and I can't stop listening. This man has the most amazing voice and the songs- he wrote and they are amazing. Very personal and real. He is one of my all time favorite singers now. If you ever get a chance to see him live do it. He is simply incredable!

    Product Description

This is William Brooks totally stripped down to voice and guitar. William Brooks' story reads like a pack of lies but swears it's all true. William was born and raised just north of The Red River and a tad south of The Arbuckle Mountains in southern Oklahoma. After a dismal, failed attempt at working in the oil business, Brooks packed up camp and moved to New York City. After crashing on the floor of noted author Brett Leveridge(Men My Mother Dated) he finally settled down in what he considers the smallest apartment in NYC's last great red-light district, Hell's Kitchen. William has acted in about a dozen movies and TV shows. He has been detained by police on several occasions but never actually arrested, got caught in a revolving door with Bob Dylan, jumped out of more than 7 perfectly good airplanes, waitered in a Chinese restaurant earning the nickname "Sing Ging Ping" which translates to "Neurons Don't Meet", saw the Beatles in concert, has seen at least 4 ghosts, none of which he knew and is most proud of writing 2 songs with critically acclaimed Rick Moody, author of The Ice Storm. Native Oklahoman William Brooks has played many of Gotham's most notable digs from The Public Theater, The Continental Divide, Arlene Grocery, Wetlands, Webster Hall and CBGB`s to Tramps and Fez.
