Feeling blue? Tired and blah? Then lay your ears on "Medicine Chest", the second release of groovilicious tunes from Boston's Spookie Daly Pride. Known for performances that are more like parties, the band does great business bringing their live show to the college crowd and has a grassroots army of devoted fans. Influences and comparisons are made to Soul Coughing, G Love, Tom Waits, and NRBQ.

The sound is best left undescribed. It is like nothing you have heard, but you certainly should. This album is diverse. The melodies are terribly catchy, with an instant familiarity to your ear. Upbeat and happy with a slightly cynical, dark approach. There isn't an element or style missing from this offering, if you listen close enough. Spookie's vocals are warm and rich throughout; he takes silly seriously. As a leadman, I'd call him great. Beneath the vocals he plays a frantic piano that sets the tone for the band.
Guitarist Peter Witham is an excellent compliment, technical excellence, smatterings of every genre, and a tasteful psychosis in every lick.
Floyd Kellogg (bass) and Tommy Diehl (drums) are rock solid in every facet of rhythm. Folks are gonna be dancing to their groove all over the world soon.
My personal favorite so far is "The Personal Ad Song," a far cry from the Pina Colada Song, with much more moral-fiber!
"What a Friend I Have in You" in my mind, is already a classic.
The wackiness carried over from the first release, Marshmallow Pie, offers an update on the "whiskey stealing monkey."
Put this in your car CD player, and you will leave it there for weeks. This is meant for all kids from 10 to 92, this disk is made for you.
