About the Artist
When 3 Inches originally formed in 2000 in Vancouver, British Columbia, they had no idea they would someday sign to the world's biggest metal label (Roadrunner) and tour with a platinum hard rock band (The Darkness). Jamie Hooper and company originally got together to do a one-off reunion gig for an old group of theirs - however, things went so well they decided to continue under a new moniker. A five-track demo of the new band, now dubbed 3 Inches of Blood after a particularly gruesome dream of a former member, found its way over to the house of Hot Hot Heat keyboardist Steve Bays. Bays' friend, death metal vocalist Cam Pipes (and yes, Cam Pipes is his real name), was impressed with 3 Inches' old school sound. "I was asked to lay down some backup vocals on the demo EP and they liked it. Afterwards I was asked to join as a permanent member and naturally, I said 'f*** yeah!'" exclaims the aptly-named Pipes.

It worked. What could have been just a simple experiment ended up changing 3 Inches of Blood forever. "We liked him so much on the demo, we asked him to be in the band," says Hooper. Over the next two years the group became a popular local concert draw, and recorded one well-received album, BATTLECRY UNDER A WINTER SUN, in 2002. That record, full of Dungeons and Dragons fantasy imagery and lightning-quick guitar riffs, set the tone for the group. First rule of 3 Inches: metal. Second rule of 3 Inches: metal. Third rule: no angst. "My first bedtime story was Lord of the Rings, which was read to me when I was three," says Hooper. "So that influenced me a lot, and my lyrics. We just want to be a story-based, imaginative band that plays metal."

5 out of 5 stars One part thrash metal + one part power metal = ALL PARTS AWESOME!.......2007-07-20

About a month ago my life was a pitiful wreck. I had a diverse collection of music, but there was something lacking. I was lacking music about killing orcs and killer robots from the future. My neck was pitifully healthy and robust from shortage of head-banging, and I lacked the appropriate soundtrack to accompany my favorite night-time hobby of dressing like King Leonidas from 300 and smashing my neighbor's mailboxes with a golf club.

But then all that changed one day. I spotted a CD with artwork and a band title so chock full of badassery that I had to purchase it. I had low expectations popping the CD into my stereo, but lo and behold I was pinned to the wall from the sheer power of awesome emanating from this CD! The Canadian metal gods blessed us with 3 Inches of Blood and their album Advance and Vanquish, a 10,000 megaton bomb of metal! A whole album about sword fighting, killing orcs, and even a song about a killer robot from the future!

Since getting this CD my life is much better. My Spartan get-up is getting a lot more usage, my neighbors have warrants out for my arrest for destruction of property, and the left side of my body is starting to go numb from the sheer tidal wave of head banging I've been doing! My sudden growth of chest hair may even be a result of this album!

So if you fellow metalhead, lack the awesome power of orc-smashing Canadian metal, pick up Advance and Vanquish today!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome! From a euro-power-metal listener........2007-05-05

I listen to mostly power metal and perhaps a bit of death... but I have to say these guys are just awesome! Yes, the lyrics are a bit of a joke (like most power metal bands lyrics), but don't let that put you off. The people giving this a low score obviously do NOT like extreme metal. If you do, get this, GUARANTEED NOT TO DISAPPOINT! My favorite thing about it is the vocal style... super high-pitched with warbling. It drives me nuts and I love it! Can't wait until their next release... which is coming very soon.

3 out of 5 stars The voice.......2007-04-10

I recently bought this cd because of the sound samples. The guys voice was really cool, what a mistake. While the cd has some cool points, the voice is nails on a chalk board. The cds alright in small amounts, but the whole album at once, get some asprin.

4 out of 5 stars About as metal as it gets..........2007-03-02

Aside from putting on an incredible live show, 3 Inches of Blood are one of the most energetic, and entertaining metal acts of the decade. Speedy, old-school riffs and versitile dual vocals make 'Advance and Vanquish' a very solid, (yet not revolutionary) effort.

What you will hear on 'Advance and Vanquish' is a unique and very tasteful mix of classic Judas Priest-ish (Painkiller-era) riffage presented with a colorful touch of the modern-day metalcore scene. The dual vocals add a unique vibe to this speedy assault. One vocalist weilds an almost King Diamond-ish falsetto, (yet not quite as versitile as the King) while the other delivers a contrasting harsh, yet very attractive, scream. Overall, something that you should definately not overlook if you are looking for some good old school, classic metal.

5 out of 5 stars Stewart's Favorite Band.......2006-11-04

If Beavis and Buttmunch were still on the air, they'd go mess with Stewart. When you see Stewart he'd be wearing a 3 Inches Of Blood T shirt, LOL!

This canadian six man band is an unstoppable force that you should cross paths with in your cd collection. This is an alien breed of metal that will get u headbanging and moshing in your bedroom . On first listen u are pulled in by the iron maiden style of music and the judas priest style vocals( also somtimes iron maiden) by cam pipes and also the wicked harsh vocals by jamie hooper.Three inches of blood has dual guitar that rides u into the battle with drums and bass that gallop along side onward to victory.Three inches of blood is an army that is destroying.Soon enough they will Advance and Vanquish us all.

5 out of 5 stars "Enemies of Metal, Your Death is Our Reward" - 3IOB.......2004-11-18

3 words to describe this stunning CD: Blow you away! It's like Diamond Head meets Iced Earth meets Mercyful Fate. If you are a fan of the 80's hardcore metal, you'll love this throwback act! Awesome, powerful, melodic, fantastic. The 2-singer attack is mind-blowing. These boys REALLY know how to rock. So, if you are a fan of in-your-face, take-no-prisoners Metal, RUN (don't walk!) to your nearest music store and scoop this baby. You'll rarely take it out of yer player!! A British Columbia (Canada) based band that'll take the world by storm.

4 out of 5 stars A Great Band.......2004-10-21

What do you get if Dani Filth did backing vocals for Meryful Fate? Three Inches of Blood! The majority of this album drips of "Melissa" era Mercyful Fate, but their are some minor vocals that are COF-ian. Very impressive, incredible, killer. Fan of both should rush to get it NOW!

4 out of 5 stars Metal As Hell..........2004-10-11

I found out about this band through a video game (sadly enough). I liked the song (Deadly Sinners) so much, I went out at bought the album. From start to finish this album is METAL AS HELL. These guys really know how to be brutal. Fortunately for the metal scene, these guys are a throwback to the awesome metal of the late 80's. These guys are in no way shape or form associated with the hardcore genre, so it's safe for you to like them because chances are they won't be ruined by bandanas and X's. CHECK THEM OUT and stay brutal.
