Customer Reviews:
Great Album Period........2007-01-13
This is an album that leaves you breathless on first listening. Melodic Death Metal has been declining in quality for the past 5 years but Arsis are the crack to jump start the scene again. The guitar work is simply stunning, the best I've heard in a great while. James Malone certainly knows the instrument. The drums are definitely pounding and unrelenting, as Death Metal drums should be, good work on Darren Cesca's part. Jame Malone's voice has a very black metal tinge to it, making the band's sound complete. If you like Death Metal, pick this album up. The best Melodic Metal album in a long time.
One of the Best Releases... probably ever!.......2006-11-24
This is some of the best guitarwork I've heard in a number of years. The opening track itself was worth the purchase, hammerons and pulloffs at 32nd note speed shifting into some vicious power chords leading into some beautiful arpeggios... The vocals are excellent, probably best compared to Carcass's heartwork, not a single horrible cookie monster tone on the whole disc. The earlier review of calling this "At the Gates" on speed is pretty accurate. You can hear some of their influences, the 2nd track, "Maddening Disdain" is reminiscent of Maiden... Wintersun for a contemporary comparison, though Wintersun debuted the same year. (2004 was a very good year for death metal.) An incredible release with spectacular delivery... if you like At the Gates, In Flames, etc., but sped up and on crack, this is it. An epic album.
One of the best!.......2006-09-29
One of the best cd I own.I never liked death metal but once I heard Arsis-A Celebration of Guilt I new I had to have it.Every song is this cd is HOT like HELL!I give each song an 11/10.You will love it.
Technical Melodeath From America?.......2006-09-08
It sounds weird, doesn't it, because everybody these days makes lame assumptions that all melodeath bands hail from Sweden, Denmark, Poland, etc. Well, if you thought that was true, you're dead wrong.
Hailing from the state of Virginia comes two masterminds that compose of the technical melodic death metal group Arsis. James Malone (guitarist/songwriter) and Michael Van Dyne (drums) execute their talent well on this CD. Even though they may perform live as a 4-piece, the two founding members are the real talent behind Arsis.
Now, to the CD. This CD will make you s**t your pants the first time you listen to it. The guitars sound like they have a digital effect to them, bringing out their technicality. And the drumming is fast as f**k. This CD will appeal to fans of later Carcass, Arch Enemy, and At The Gates. This could easily outrival "Slaughter of the Soul" by At The Gates for the greatest true melodeath CD invented.
If you are a fan of technical death, melodeath, or just plain metal, you need this.
Strap Yourself In For A Rollercoaster Ride!.......2006-09-06
Although Arsis consists of only 2 members, what they produce is AMAZING. And that drummer, MAN! How does he do it? There are no slow songs on this album, just heavy intense innovative magic. It is very satisfying if you are in the mood for heaviness and like the idea of a sonic rollercoaster ride, and it is complex enough to keep your mind busy interpreting it.
