Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Best duel set's that Moe has released yet..........2007-07-10

This is the best combination of songs for sets that I have ever seen Moe release. Though the Dr. Graffenberg might be a bit too long, the rest of the second set makes up for the lost time during the space-out. A few tracks that can probably be judged as the best versions of the songs I've ever heard are: "Water", "Time Ed", "Waiting for the Punch line", and the transition from "Rebubula" into "I Know You Rider." This CD is a must.

Moe, if you are reading this! Please make your 6th Warts and All from the Ithaca, NY 11/2003 show. please.......

4 out of 5 stars Not the best Warts.......2006-03-25

Let me start off by saying I disagree with kireviewer's review in that I prefer that jam bands release entire shows rather than snippets from the whole tour, not to mention I like the "country" songs that moe. previously released on the L release. I do agree that they don't need to have a separate track for the tuning or the banter, but I believe he's going against the core value of what jam bands do best - the heavy improvisational jams that intertwine with other songs, and you really only understand the inspired work of the artists when you have the whole picture to look at.

That being said let me start my review. I own all four Warts and All volumes and this one gets the least play. This album has a few songs I don't care for, most of all Bearsong. However it does have some really great examples of their jamming vehicles, particularly the YOY > Recreation Chemistry pairing. In addition to the tracks listed it has some filler (Brent Black on disc 2 is phenomenal) so you kinda get more bang for your buck. If you are just starting to explore moe., and want to get a really good example of what a quality moe. show ought to be then purchase Warts & All 2, or if you want an older show that comes from the era before they added percusionist Jim Loughlin (by the way Warts vol 4 falls into the pre-Jim era) then get Volume 3 (which I have also reviewed). If you want to get a good studio album, my favorite is Dither, followed by No Doy.

5 out of 5 stars WARNING.................2006-02-10

....DO NOT LISTEN TO WHILE DRIVING: moe. has a tendency of turning a 5 minute car ride into a 30 minute excursion. This is a mistake I make quiet often. The jams get so intense that I end up taking a scenic route to get to the scenic route. That is the power of moe. I consider my self a very diverse music listener with an appreciation for good guitar playing. Although there are some warts on this album the highs defiantly outweigh the lows. For example: the jam on Recreational Chemistry, its starts of ok but then it builds and builds and builds. After seeing moe. quite a few times and owning all their live releases as well as some downloads I have learned one thing: moe. has patience. They will stay on a single phrase for quite a while and build it up and transform it to something totally different. That's what makes moe. interesting. Tasty licks and always the question, where are they going to go with this? After listening to an entire moe. show or even just two good jams I get exhausted but in a good way. They are very talented musicians who stay out of the "noodling" pigeon hole that most jambands fall into.

4 out of 5 stars I wish they would cut out some of the warts.......2005-11-11

This is a three CD set from a single show in 1998. Each disc is over 76 minutes long. Sound quality is good but not excellent. The audience noise has been kept to a minimum.

I haven't heard all of Moe's concerts, so I can't compare to the other volumes. This CD set is certainly much better than Moe's first live release, L (and L was a pretty good album).

I can't give this 5 stars, because it isn't a perfect album. The biggest issue is that if is the WHOLE concert, from the time the guys take the stage to the time they leave. Do you really need to hear them tuning up? Or the 5 minutes of chatter before the last encore?

This is a really enjoyable guitar oriented jam album. It is just one serious guitar jam after another. Many of the tracks are over 20 minutes each. But, they aren't boring. They are interesting and somewhat innovative (only somewhat innovative, they do borrow a lot from other jam bands, Grateful Dead, Phish and the Allman Brothers).

Besides the jamming, I also enjoy the songs that supply the springboards for the jams. They are much better than some of the original tunes by Phish or String Cheese Incident. And, those two horrible Moe country compostions on L, are not on this set. Interesting note is that Moe plays the traditional I Know You Rider. Grateful Dead was the first jam band to play it, and now just about every Dead wannabe plays it.

Is this the difinitive Moe album to get? I don't know, because I haven't listened to the others. I can't tell you which is best. But, you will need to spend a lot of bucks to get the whole collection.

I wish these jam bands would be like the Allman Brothers. Until this year, the Allman Brothers never has released a complete concert. They would pick the best performances from several shows. That is why Live At the Fillmore East is probably the greatest live album of all time.

I could listen to the album several times in a row. Just think how good a "greatest hits" of the tour would be.

IF YOU LIKE MOE, YOU SHOULD CHECK OUR THE WELSH GROUP, MAN. SOME OF THEIR BETTER ALBUMS ARE 1999 TOUR PARTY AND BACK INTO THE FUTURE. ALSO A GOOD GUITAR JAM CAN BE HEAR ON QUICKSILVER'S HAPPY TRAILS.

5 out of 5 stars Great moe. show.......2005-10-06

I recently discovered moe. over a year ago when I happened to catch their set at bonnaroo 04. I had heard of them from people but hadnt heard any of their music. I was blown away by the musical expertise each band member employs in their work. I love moe. because their songs are about drinking (Happy Hour Hero) and having a good but also delve into unlikely topics about deep matters of love and God (st. augustine, rebubula). This cd displays all the wonderful assets of their music and the versions of these songs won't let you down. Songs like YOY, Waiting for the Punchline, Recreational Chemistry and Dr. Graffenberg are the best versions of these songs Ive heard anywhere. Also check out the moe.down5 recording from sat night, good show too. And this cd even has a secret song unmarked #7 on disc 2 as brent black as it goes into the theme from the song "all my friends are lowriders" with rob and vinnie adding the "take a little trip with me" vocals. Best live moe. recording Ive heard. These guys are unbelieveable, check out the bonnaroo 04 dvd, great version of rebubula.
