5 out of 5 stars Wow, so beautiful.......2006-09-28

I am proud to say unashamably that Pete Murray hails from my city. This is Pete's 2004 debut album release called 'Feeler' and all I can say this is one beautiful album. It is rare for an album to have 3 hit songs and all in a row from the 1st song 'Feeler' that is self titled, to the second song 'Bail Me Out' followed by the huge hit on Australian radio even this year 'So Beautiful'. This song is romantic and shows that Pete Murray oozes with tonnes of talent and can sing.

Pete Murray began singing in local Sydney pubs and clubs before picking up the Columbia label and now he has success and rightly so. Pete is a talented singer who is down to earth and every song means that much to him. The lyrics are his own and come from life experiences he has been through. Pete Murray quickly has ascended the Australian and New Zealand charts and has also become a figure in the folk rock/pop scene. He followed this album with a 2005 release which I shall review in the coming months.

This album is produced well and each song lacks nothing. This is one of those albums that you can tell the artist has made sure each of his favourite songs were included. Columbia gave Pete Murray freedom and this paid off. The songs 'Bail Me Out', 'So Beautiful' and 'Lines' are my favourite. But all the songs on this album are perfect. Whether you are listening to it alone, or a loved one or as background in a party - this album delivers in every aspect.

Pete Murray is the proof that the Australian music scene is alive and kicking. He is a pure legend. This album is played regularly by myself and I have become a fan of his talent and modesty.

5 out of 5 stars A must have cd!!.......2006-08-04

Wow, this guy can sing!! I have been lucky to see him play live twice within the last 5-6 months and man he rocks.

This cd would have to be one of the best I have as his lyrics and the subtle guitar licks through out the cd makes this a must have. It is a shame that he doesn't get the credit he deserves although his second cd is getting more airplay.

So go out and buy it you will not regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Why, Why, Why...........2006-05-22

Why isn't this album availible in the United States? You can't even buy Pete Murray's music on iTunes. Is it because this guy can actually sing, unlike so many in America's pop culture? Talent oozes from every lyric, every note, and it's a shame that so many in North America will never hear this CD because it simply isn't availible over here unless you go through an import service.

Excuse me while I go bang my head against a wall. On second thought, I think I'll just listen to this excellent CD again and try to feel smug about it.

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable stuff.......2004-11-17

This is an amazing album by a great new songwriter. He's fast become a huge favourite here in Australia and I just hope he catches on in Canada so everyone at home doesn't miss out. Great music, great lyrics, and a unique sound.

While Perfume Tree's Jane Tilley's ghostly vocal excursions meld effortlessly with the electronic milieu provided by Bruce Turpin and Pete Lutwyche, there is a slight element of sonic overkill in their patented, blissed-out sound. Actually, the trio's divine instrumental passages hold up quite well and draw the listener into an inverted omniverse of subliminal sound. With drum & bass interludes stacked on top of atmospheric drones and Tilley's vaporous musings, the whole experience can become a bit ponderous. While the stylized soundscapes evoke a profound, otherworldly perspective and their lush, synthetic environments are tailored to absolute perfection, Perfume Tree are often missing one essential quality: soul. Feeler is a mixed bag of sequencers, programming, guitars, and samplers. Decent ambient-funk-dub fusion with vocals, but not great. --Mitch Myers

5 out of 5 stars Sonic Calgon..........2006-12-25

Take me away. This is quite a relaxing and breathtaking
wash of sound. Lay back and say ahhhhhhh.......
These are not your standard Verse - Chorus - Verse structure.
They are long, blissful, but not ambient.

Think Kirsty Hawkshaw meets a surrealistic Portishead with
a bit of Massive Attack poured in for good measure. No,
these guys are not at all like Delerium to me, although I love
the rotating canvas of artists that make up Delerium.

The TB303 is put to unique usage on "Both Oceans"... yeah, possibly
a sample, but it doesn't matter the way it is used. Rather than
the tweaked out squeals in the club, it's used as an ambient,
hypnotic drone for a mellow journey. Other favorites of mine are
"Flooded" with it's atmospheric textures and drum n bass filtering
in and out, and "Warm Sun Fingers" weaves it's delayed drums echoing
out a dreamlike tapestry with Jane's vocals.

1 out of 5 stars for the tone deaf.......2001-07-24

Bla, Bla Bla. Why in gods name was this junk rated heigher than delerium. My freaken ears are bleeding after just the scratchy, un-understandable jibberish SAMPLES. You are obviously tone deaf. Delerium fans>> Please feel free to E-mail me if you have heard of any stuff worth hearing, besides delerium. i know its a one-of-a-kind type of music, so could the real music listening people please sit down and comment against all who put delerium down.

1 out of 5 stars A Review.......2000-03-09

Nice rythms. Kick back and enjoy the groove.

4 out of 5 stars Nice soothing, etherial electronica!.......2000-02-16

I bought this album almost a year after buying their first release "A lifetime away". I must say that this one is certainly better. Perfume Tree bears alot of resemblences in atmosphere to the other Canadian act Delerium, except while Delerium borrows samples from everywhere else and is anything but original, Perfume Tree has a much more "authentic" sound (for lack of a better term). While Jane's voice isn't exactly emotional it is in fact soothing, and the album conveys images of being in a fogged forest with fairies dancing around me whenever I listen to it. Highley reccommended!

5 out of 5 stars 100% brilliant.......1999-12-24

74 minutes of pure bliss: Feeler is excellent. Perfume Tree have made me re-evaluate the music I listen to. Feeler is easily one of the best albums of 1998, and I can't wait for more from Perfume Tree.

5 out of 5 stars You don't find a good debut too often, but..........2005-06-25

...Pete Murray has definitely put out just such an album with "Feeler." From what I understand, the Aussie churned out this album while on a break from his professional rugby playing due to an injury. I think it's safe to say, after listening to catchy tracks such as "Feeler," "Fall Your Way," and "Tonic" (not to mention the rest of the album), that he could earn his keep at either job should he so choose.

Yeah, the price is high. Yeah, it's an import and unproven on the American charts, but take my word for it--you won't be disappointed with this LP.

5 out of 5 stars Destined to become a classic album.......2005-01-10

Simple yet elegant. Distinctive but easy to listen to. The sort of CD you'd have out ready to play if having guest/s over.

Pete's distintive vocals mixed with his acoustic and bluesy at times feel makes this album an example of individual songwriting skill and composition. From the riff driven "Feeler" to the melancholy "Beautiful", this album deserves the recognition it is getting in Australia. I just hope Pete's subsequent albums dont become watered down by complexity, commercialism and popular demand.

5 out of 5 stars Found Him At JJJ.......2004-11-15

I found Pete on the list of top 100 songs of the year at Triple J radio station's website. They're a station in Australia and I frequently check their website for up-and-comers. I found Alex Lloyd on there as well. Both him and Pete Murray are 2 of my favorite artists. Pete's music is so touching and melodic. I hope he makes it big in the U.S. because he deserves it, but part of me wants him to remain anonymous because I don't want him to change.

4 out of 5 stars Talent to Burn.......2004-11-05

Buy it now and lock it in. So Beautiful is the song of the year. The rest is 4 * class. The future is over-popularity and the risks of over-production. Buy it now before they throw in the drum machines and complicated arrangements. Straight from the soul but way too marketable.

4 out of 5 stars Stylish and Cool.......2004-08-20

As an Australian living abroad I'm out of the loop when it comes to great new Aussie talents, lucky for me my sisters have their fingers on the pulse and thoughfully sent me a copy of this album.
Brilliant stuff - Peter Murray's voice is both soothing and romantic without being mawkishly sentimental. I play this CD whenever I have friends over and they all love it. This is a must for any music lover.

Shakespeare's Sister started out with just Siobhan (former member of Bananarama)...after the 1st release "Sacred Heart" tanked...Siobhan made the SMART decision to bring in Marcella...
Anything that SS was lacking-these 2 chicks together filled the void. After "Hormonally Yours" (with billboard hit song Stay) Marcella was not invited back to be with SS...although SS released another album after Marcella (which was pretty good) it was Marcella who blew me out of the water...Her music is very similer to SS... After "Jewel" Marcella releases "Feeler", another
example for her solo- talent after Shakespears Sister.
The best songs are "I hate you now", "Somebody's mother",
"The same father" and "Kidd". It's a popsong- collection
with melodic sounds but more rough like "Jewel".
On this album I miss smash- hits like "I believe".
Sometimes the songs sound similar but my full respect
for her arrangements, her lyrics and her voice.

5 out of 5 stars The lady who does it all........2001-03-16

Marcella is back without Siobhan Fahey of Shakespears Sister. And quite honestly she never needed her. Marcy was the brains and the talent behind the band. This is actually her third solo project, and it is perfect. If you love a great voice, and excellent songwriting this cd is definitely for you. She is also currently working on her third cd now. The first single which is to be released in April, is called Lust for like. Check it out on her website Marcelladetroit.com. Do yourself a favor and purchase Feeler. You want be sorry.
