Editorial Reviews

From the Artist
"Since Zebra is also a 3-piece band, we were always interested in what Rush was doing to add to their music. They used a lot of synths and although they used them differently than we did, I got a lot of good ideas for adding to our sound by watching them perform live.

I think Rush goes down as one of a handful of bands that managed to stay on top throughout their careers. Their music is as fresh and valid today as it was when it first came out."

-Randy Jackson (Zebra)

"Rush is proof that it is possible to be a success in rock by being the most unlikely to succeed. They never had screaming teenage girls as the core of their audience. They never sounded like they were trying to write hits. They never fit in with any other mainstream rock movement. They were average, normal looking guys who managed to find a sound that was different and exciting. They've also lasted longer than most rock bands and managed to maintain a loyal cult-like audience that exists to this day."

-Alex Skolnick (Alex Skolnick Trio, Testament)

4 out of 5 stars Rush Should Be Proud.......2007-05-02

All true Rush fans will have fun listening to this tribute album. I thoroughly enjoyed how each guest musician put their own spin on each of these classic songs and how subtle subliminal nuances of other Rush classics were strategically implemented into some of the tracks. Limelight was extremely notable to me as Kip Winger's vocals in addition to some absolutely solid background work made this an instant favorite- this track also included some of the best simultaneous arrangements of drums, bass, and guitar that I've heard in years. The quality of musicianship on this album is tremendous as Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart are matched note for note and beat for beat. Every track on this CD has its moments and I really loved the creative spins that were fused into Lakeside Park, Different Strings, A Farewell to Kings, and The Spirit of Radio. If there is one slight criticism that I'd have of this collection it would be the constant unbridled renegade freelance metal guitar soloing that resonated throughout many of the songs- it just simply felt out of place.

5 out of 5 stars One of many..........2007-01-03

There are many RUSH tributes out there, attesting to their excellence! This one is nice for a change of pace if you listen to RUSH a lot, or always (like me). My favorite is "Exit Stage Right" however, the string quartet tribute. Most people who would buy this are big RUSH fans, so it is practically obligatory to buy them all anyway!

4 out of 5 stars Hey Kid.... Wow do you need to do your homework..........2006-12-30

I wouldn't read the previous reviewer and think there is any intelligence there... If you haven't actually heard of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Alex Skolnick, Stu Hamm, et al. Get a lesson in history and realize half the riffs you are hearing from today's artists are likely ripped off from these GIANTS. Collectively the artists on this album make up some of the best rock players of any time...period.

That being said, the disc is very good. Much like the sister disc Working Man(some of the same players)... Very enjoyable, worth the buy.

    1 out of 5 stars Absolutely Disgusting.......2006-11-27

It appears my previous review was deleted (?) so I feel the need to "assist" all future Rush fan's who may be considering picking up this piece of garbage.

This is yet another attempt by Magna Carta to cash in on the talent that its "artists" sorely lack. I would rather listen to Night Ranger in a Florida trailer park.

4 out of 5 stars Very impressive tribute.......2006-07-08

I am quite into Classic Rock Tributes,so I thought I would check out this one, mainly because I saw that Randy Hanson (Of Zebra) featured. The other vocalists (Kip Winger/Jani Lane and Seb Bach for Instance) gave me second thoughts after I heard the dreadful vocal performances of other 80s Heavy Rockers on the Dance Re-mix of Led Zeppelin. However, every vocal performance was very complimentary and above my expectations.Obviously,Randy Hanson being the pick.If you are a Rush fan,you can't go wrong,as the songs are various periods as well.I just wish that either Rush played Witch Hunt LIVE or that the next tribute features this Classic piece.
