5 out of 5 stars Absolutely incredible........2006-04-12

This is what you call "energy". POD have it, and it shows on this cd. Sonny has great instincts for working the crowd, and Marcos is crazy good. Listen to Selah and Know Me, and if you don't feel the energy coursing through your veins, then go down to your local cemetery and bury yourself, because you're dead.

I only wish that THIS pod was around doing concerts today. The energy has faded as their popularity grew (they're still good though, don't get me wrong) and the new guitarist can't thrash it out like the original.

If you enjoy this cd, I would suggest 3 Dollar Bill Yall by Limp Bizkit, Get Some and Alive by Snot, Index Case, and United We Fear by The Accident Experiment (that's the new band Marcos the guitar player is in). Keep in mind, these suggestions for other cds are for the open minded listener; if you're a strictly Christian music fan, and will not listen to music with swearing and stuff, then just ignore my suggestions, as they could be considered offensive.

If you can get your hands on this cd, then I would suggest purchasing it. If you've previewed any of the old POD records and enjoyed their sound, you'll love this.

Peace out.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME CD!.......2005-05-20

This CD is a must have for any P.O.D. fan or even any Rock fan in general. I play it all the time and it shows how great P.O.D. is live unlike alot of bands that sound good on the CD but then when it comes for a live performance sound horrible. I'm suprised people would let go of their copies of this for such a low price, it's a 5 star cd peoples! Do yourself a favor and buy it, you won't be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars Great cd.......2004-01-31

first of all, to set the record straight, Murder was not deleted from this cd... it was made a secret track. its still there. all in all a great disk that really shows what awesome musical talent P.O.D. has.

4 out of 5 stars They way they used to be.......2003-05-05

Ok, so technically I don't own this CD. I own the original release of P.O.D. live back when it had 10 songs on it. Add the fact that it's signed and you've got a rare one. It was done before P.O.D.'s rise to fame. After their sudden success, this was cleaned up, repackaged, and re-released.
But anyways. This CD is definitly a must for any fan of P.O.D. looking to see what their roots were like. I perfectly shows the raw aggression they have with their music on stage. For those who don't know what Tomfest is, (where this was recorded) Tomfest is probably the best Christian Hard Rock music festival held every year. With so many great bands out there I feel this CD perfectly captures why P.O.D. has always been considered one of, if not the best bands out.
One listen and you can tell this isn't like other "live" albums where the crowd is boosted, or the parts where they sing off key are dubbed over to create a better "live" experience for the listener. It shows how through the occational technicallity, P.O.D.'s members are incredible musicians who put their all into each performance.
As to why I only gave it four stars, I had to dock a star due to the deletion of the number 10 track, "Murder." Sure, I know the public masses might be a little shocked to hear P.O.D. playing a song that starts off with them chanting "Abortion is murder..." over and over. I can understand why they'd take it off the re-release. However, this is who P.O.D. was. This is part of their history. I was hoping P.O.D. would've stuck to their guns and kept it on. But, still a great album.
With or without the last track, this is still a must have album. Few live albums are even worth buying. This is an exception.
Nowdays P.O.D. has to mask themselves with spiritual vagueness which I understand. With the way MTV and radio is, anything remotely Christian is filtered out. Every now and then I love putting this CD on and hearing P.O.D. before all that mattered. They're great now, and they were great then. Pick this CD up and find out for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars very nice :).......2002-10-29

I likes this Cd. I like POD. THey sorta go together. THey get so much energy it stinks that there isn't a lyrics sheet. But you can get the lyrics at theshouthtown.com so it's all good. This is raw. I seems like it was done on the brown tour. (i am getting that album). It only has one song from snuff de Punk. Witch is a awsom album. The audio is undoutible LIVE but thats what it says on the cover if you don't like it go buy 1 of there many studio releses. FEOS and Satillite are a little polished for my tast. they have some good songs but the mixing doesn't do justice to them . In cfact the only CD that does do justice to them in a studio is Warriors EP (out a print dangit). THey are christian but they don't need any definding they flat out rock. THis CD shows they flat out rock live to. It is only 30 minuts but hey short & sweet. If you are reading this revieve you probubly might buy it. Do yourself a favour and do it. It is a awsom CD. WEll that is aw I have to say if you like e'm in the studio you will like e'm live. Since i don't want to go to ozz fest i getr to hear 'em live. TOP FORM

5 out of 5 stars I love you Sonny!!!!.......2007-03-11

Like I said with the other review, this went heads up with Satellite. Awesome band, awesome lyrics and message, awesome guitar playing. I loved ETERNAL at the end.

5 out of 5 stars Masterpiece.......2007-02-12

I have followed P.O.D. since they put out "Fundemental Elelemts of Southtown." I am quite impressed on how they have progressed in their sound and how good their music has become. "Payable on Death" is, in my opinion, the best cd P.O.D. has put out. It's hard to describe the sound on this cd. It's metal but it's a soothing metal and Sonny actually sings instead of yells in this cd. It's really nice since Sonny has a great voice. It's ashame P.O.D. didn't keep this sound or their latest cd "Testify" could of been so much better. Since this review is really short and i don't really know how to describe the sound, i will make a list of the tracks and give them a star rating. 1 star = poor, 2 stars =fair, 3 stars = good, 4 stars = great, 5 stars = amazing.

3 out of 5 stars OK.......2007-01-05

This album is ok. It is not really special in any way.

The music ranges from reggae to hard rock. None of it is particularly good. As a 'Christian' rock band, one would not know it from this album. The lyrics are ok. There is nothing really objectionable in them, but there is no discernable spiritual message either.

I have enjoyed a couple of P.O.D.'s songs in the past, specifically 'Alive' and 'Youth Of The Nation'. They may have some other notable songs on other albums, but I didn't hear any on this one.

If you like harder Christian music, I would recommend 'Skillet'.

5 out of 5 stars OPEN UP YOUR F***ING MINDS!!!.......2006-08-17

Ok. Everyone please get over the fact that this CD doesn't sound like the previous ones. What good would it be to make a xerox of the last album. POD is a very talented band that delivers every time. Ya it sucks that Marcos left but this is still a very good album. I honestly could say that this might be my favorite POD album, and Iv'e been a fan since pretty much the start.
POD now has a new guitarist Jason Truby who obviously has a different style then Marcos, but for some reason still gives POD the same kind of spiritual feel to there music, which is why I love POD so much. I think the riffs on this CD go GREAT with the lyrics and feel for POD. Thats because I think POD always stays true, they may have a different guitarist but they still speak from the heart. I think jason truby did a FANTASTIC job on this CD. I especially like Eternal, has a cool little feel to it. I'm not going to review every song individually because they are all great! This entire CD has a great spiritual feel to it and f***ing ROCKS. I recommend this CD to anyone!

1 out of 5 stars Below Average.......2006-08-01

Wildfire is the only song that really stuck out to me on this album. Overall the remainder of the songs contained stale lyrics and below average music that was a bit on the dull side. Uninteresting. I don't recommend buying it unless you need a cure for insomnia.

4 out of 5 stars Better then satellite.......2005-06-15

Even though satellite may have been more of a success i still think that this new self titled album by p.o.d is their best effort yet. What makes this such a great album is that fact that it's just 12 good hard rock songs on one cd and the fact that it has more of a reggae influence doesnt seem to be a problem. Sattleite was just inconsistent and most ot the songs had a rap metal sound to them but this album delivers straight hard rock. The inclusion of a new guitarist also means that the guitar riffs are spiced up and sound better. On the whole this is a much better album then the previous one.

4 out of 5 stars Death, where is your sting?.......2005-01-24

This powerful album really stands out on account of the memorable songs like Will You, a brooding atmospheric number driven by screaming guitars, primal scream vocals and with catchy hooks aplenty. Tracks like I And Identity with its brilliant drum textures and Find My Way with its insistent bass take the listener even deeper into the land of metal.

Freedom Fighters with its tuneful chorus and Wildfire have a strong spiritual undertone. The latter has moments of prominent jungle drums and snatches of West Indian rhythm that make it stand out. It is quite awesome the way they celebrate the light by transcending the darker emotions, quite impressive.

A slower track, Asthma, is very beautiful with poetic lyrics sung with great intensity. The album concludes with the impressive Eternal, a more subdued but no less powerful number with a sense of restrained strength.

POD is an album of breathtaking instrumental and vocal variety, captivating tunes and lots of attitude. But what ultimately makes it special is the spirituality that infuses the music. If you like your rock heavy, passionate and metallic, you'll love Payable On Death. It's full of life!

5 out of 5 stars Very solid, great feel to the music.......2005-01-17

I'd never been much of a fan of P.O.D.'s music (unless you count TCM's remix of "Boom") until I heard the different sound they presented on /Payable on Death/. This album has a solid, powerful feel to it. As others have mentioned here, there is a Rasta/Jamaican element to most of the music on the disc, and I personally do not find it to be a drawback. In fact, I like the mild mixing of this trait with what might otherwise have been fairly traditional-sounding rock. It adds a nice bit of flavor to the overall feel of the album.

I like all the tracks on this CD, except for "Asthma." For some reason, that song just doesn't speak to me the way the others do. I have my favorites, of course (Execute the Sounds, Revolution, etc.), but the entire album is a joy to listen to. My only complaint would be with the song "Eternal." It is a very good song, and has an excellent sound to it. The only problem is, it just doesn't fit with the rest of the album. You've got 11 tracks of driving, booming music, and then suddenly you come to this lengthy accoustic song that just doesn't have anything in common with the others. Eternal is a great song, and at least they had the good sense to put it at the end of the album and not in the middle... But like I said, it is a bit disruptive, especially if you just pop the CD in and play the tracks in random order.

Ultimately, though, this is a fantastic album. P.O.D. has certainly made a convert out of me with this latest effort on their part, and I recommend it to anyone who likes good rock. If you didn't like P.O.D. before, definitely give them a try with /Payable on Death/ and see how far they've come.

5 out of 5 stars P.O.D. rocks!.......2004-03-18

Payable on Death rocks. It's an awesome album. My favorite song would have to be "Find My Way" and "The Reasons". P.O.D. rocks! I saw them along with Linkin Park,Story of the Year, and Hoobastank in concert. They rocked!!!Me and my boyfriend are huge, huge fans of them. The only reason he went to the concert was to see them and if they weren't there, he wouldn't have went.I went to see all of them. P.O.D deserves 5 stars.
P.S. Sonny is so sexy!!(don't ya'll agree?)

3 out of 5 stars P.O.D is back with some changes........2004-02-09

P.O.D is back, without guitarist Marcos, but with a new sound. This is a different sounding album than their previous, 'Satellite'. That was(and still is)my favorite P.O.D album, but its good that P.O.D tried some new stuff. Payable on Death has more of a rock reggae sound than before, but this album doesent have such a big chance that you wont notice them. This is still P.O.D, but there are no heavy songs. Sonny also has a different accent (Hey Mon) but you can tell its him by his voice. I dont really hate any song on this album, but non of them are really classic meterial. They are mostly all good though. I would reccomend this cd to old or new P.O.D fans. Even though Marcos is gone, P.O.D is still alive with a new, but inperfect sound.

1 out of 5 stars Why The hell did they remix this classic?.......2006-06-28

POD is an awesomeband. The orginal brown had a raw feel to it. A real Feel. This was done by some hacky producers who felt the old one didn't sound as good as the new one. The orginal version of Selah is one the best Hardcore/Rapcore songs ever. The oginal vocal was rough and mixed into the music. The new one sounds like a computer processor. Music should sound organic, not like a big piece of plastic.

Next thing you know they will rerecord the bass and drums just like ozzy.

4 out of 5 stars A Different POD.......2006-04-21

The biggest distinction I hear between this and everything they've done since is in production. There's something very raw and real about the sounds you'll find in Brown. It's like you're in a garage listening to this amazing band that you know is going somewhere someday. At the time, that's what I thought: a friend of mine gave me this CD when it first came out, and I'd never heard anything like it. Their music ranges from rap to punk, from funk to metal, from thought-provoking masterpieces to no-limit jam sessions. Brown is unique, diverse, and just plain fun. There are times when they'll venture out and do things you don't hear on studio albums, like talk with each other and laugh. Both as a musician and audio tech junkie, I'll take this album to any other rapcore album I've ever heard. However, if you prefer their newer, slick, polished studio sounds, you'll probably hate this album.

3 out of 5 stars Their best work.......2004-09-22

To start off let me say I was a warrior for many years and I loved POD. However, times I change. I lost faith in christianity a few years ago. Musically, I also grew sick of how rampant nu metal and rap metal where. Coming originally from a hip hop background it sounded great to me in the beginning but came off as a tired and fake gimmick soon after as I began to get into classic rock, metal and hardcore. However, now and then I'll pop this album in and I find it to be POD's best work, with nice guitar work from Marcos and bass work from Traa.

POD has since gone downhill, and it turns out they where not nearly as righteous and god-fearing as everyone thought. But I still like to take a trip down memory lane with this one.

5 out of 5 stars A fan since the beggining (before they became popular).......2004-09-20

I was shown the Brown album by one of my buddies when I was like 14 (about 7 years ago). This is one of the best albums in the genre that has ever existed (it could be THE BEST). I had a hardcore band for about two years and Preach was one of our favorite warm-up songs. I have heard the re-release, and they actually made it song a lot cleaner, just like their newer stuff. I like their newer stuff, but if you're going to buy this cd, try to get one of the original releases, they're a little more ?staticcy? The originals just have a pure sound that doesn't sound like they had 5 executives telling them "this is what's in, THIS IS the sound that you will have." Okay enough about that, BUY THIS for the songs Breath Babylon (a hardcore masterpiece- you should hear this live), Selah, Preach, Full Colour (one on the most emotional songs that I've ever heard - dedicated to all of those who have lost someone), and just about every other song on the album. Last words, you will probably never hear another P.O.D. album this good ever again.

4 out of 5 stars P.O.D At It's Best.......2004-08-10

Contrary to what others have said about this album, I hold that this is their most unique and creative. Let me start off by saying that this record is pretty indy. It dosen't have all the extra production effects of "Southtown" or "Satellite", but it does make up for it in it's innovative approach. Every song is done with a passion and intensity. Sonny make's your heart bleed on tracks like "Full Color" which is about his mother dying. Wuv and Traa demonstrate why they have one of the best ryhtm sections in heavy music as they chug along like a tank on speed. "Visions" and "Selah" are two of the best songs P.O.D.'s ever made. If you were let down by "Payable On Death" go old school and buy the record that made P.O.D. an underground establishment.
