Andrew W.K. has a mission--to dirty up rock & roll, literally and figuratively. And while that may seem a sizeable task for one man to shoulder, consider that the Michigan-reared screamer has devoted the whole of his debut album I Get Wet to ecstatic celebration of the id. It's a heck of an idea, and it's brought W.K. the fawning adoration of the British press who, after enduring years of ambient art-rock inspired by paranoia about technology (you know who we mean), are rushing to embrace W.K.'s credo that everyone should party till they puke. W.K. stays on theme throughout I Get Wet's 12 frenetic tracks--song titles like the aforementioned "Puke," "It's Time to Party," "Party Hard," and "Fun Night" pretty much make the point. But W.K.'s more-is-more approach holds true of the music too--it's cheesy new wave meets spiky metal but delivered with such self-conscious force that it's almost bubblegum. Think of the gargantuan riffs of "Detroit Rock City" smeared with Flock of Seagulls-style synth while some manic propagandist hollers himself hoarse over top. I Get Wet has one setting--loud--but not since the Stooges has unmitigated hedonism, and just plain headbanging, seemed like a plan. Mighty members of the three-finger devil salute fraternity, your soundtrack has arrived. --Kim Hughes

5 out of 5 stars The CD that changed my life.......2007-06-22

Whoever said that this is the sound of life is right. Whenever I put it on, I forget all my worries and just headbang, jump and dance around. If you like living and having fun, working hard and just plain being a man instead of a whining emo you will like this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Party Hard.......2007-06-01

The Tokyo Hard Rock Cafe plays it as a birthday music. We had party there for it and I bought it when I got home immediately. Perfect!!!

1 out of 5 stars Nothing but Jock Rock.......2007-05-17

Even though I haven't heard this entire album, I swear every Andrew WK song that I have heard sounds EXACTLY the same. This is mainly attributed to the same keyboard line in every song. The fact is that every song of Andrew WK doesn't HAVE to sound the same to make them suck. They just do that naturally. What makes my gut hurt from laughing so hard is all these football playing jocks and preps liking Andrew WK and all of the sudden they think they are "hard rock/metal fans". Andrew is, was, and always will be jock rock and nothing more. I feel very certain that the only reason jocks like Andrew WK is the fact that any song with a "party" theme makes them totally retarded. Hey "metalheads", if you want to listen to some real music and real metal, how about listening to Job for a Cowboy, In Flames, Despised Icon, Through the Eyes of the Dead, or Morbid Angel? Then you can explain to me what "rocks hard", cuz it sure as hell isn't Andrew WK.

5 out of 5 stars Rock is back!.......2007-04-07

Without question, one of the few CD's ever to have balls. Unashamed of using the same piano note for over 3 minutes straight, Andrew WK has finally created a CD that people must stand up and take notice of. Years later, it's crashing sonic bombast is still strong as ever. Punk-style guitar passages turned into massive arena anthems, gang vocals to intimidate even the burliest of rockers, and lyrics that while not of some introspective self-loathing poet, get the point home quickly and efficently. This is the voice you hear coming down the alleys, the voice that God himself couldn't even steal away.

Andrew WK: Rock's savior. Own a piece of history.

5 out of 5 stars The Music Of God !.......2007-03-03

      4 out of 5 stars Rock On!.......2003-02-22

The first song I heard from Andrew W.K. was "We want fun" from the soundtrack of "Jackass The Movie". Great song, especially on occassions where you are in a party-mood. This album contains a dozen of songs that are pretty much alike the "We want fun" song. If you love that song, you'll sure love the complete album. All simple, but cool rock songs. Great listening in the car or with your friends when you've had a beer or 2.

Andrew WK's music is all about having fun. Buy his CDs and see for yourself.

      4 out of 5 stars I KNOW I SHOULDN'T BUT I DO.......2002-03-29

I bought this album based solely on the fact that the video for party hard made me laugh. Not at the video but with it. It is refreshing to see someone making hard rock that isn't based solely on how painful their childhood was. Andrew wants us to party and I for one agree.

It is true that at first listen all the songs do sound a bit samey but hell the first time i listened to psychocandy by jesus and mary chain i could barely tell they were songs. With repeated listens you start to pick up the melodies and pretty soon you can't help but yell "I love New York City" every couple of minutes

So stop being a stuck up indie kid and just buy the party album of the year

3 out of 5 stars Big Dumb Rock.......2002-03-05

I can't tell if Andrew W.K.'s I Get Wet is the worst recording of all time or the harbinger of an entirely new genre. This very short, 12 track collection sounds like nothing other than Abba fronted by Lemmy from Motorhead. Forget rap-rock - this is disco thrash - catchy as hell, stoopider than the freshest hip-hop joint, brilliant in its relentlessness. Andrew W.K. is a screamer - his monotone matching the steady thumping rhythms (stolen? borrowed?) from techno or Twisted Sister. And, as much as you resist it (I swear I've tried), the thing wears you down, until you're screaming along with every brain dead chorus. "When it's time to party we will always party hard." "Party `til you puke." And the (now) anthemic "I LOVE NEW YORK CITY!!" Big dumb rock has never felt so shameful, or so liberating.

      4 out of 5 stars Damn-good offering!.......2002-02-20

After the splashing of the video for 'Party Hard' on MTV Rock over the weeks and months...I decided to search for it in stores. Glad I did, too...

Some people can say that all the saongs sound the same...I thought that at first. But after listening to it a few times...it's simplicity brings forth originality.

A few sounds were repeated from song to song, but it's a party CD...a far cry from Progressive Metal (thank goodness).

      Good time metal is back!
