Once upon a time in Los Angeles--during the infamous mid-'80s Guns N' Roses era--the City of Angels was spewing forth dirty, blues-influenced rock bands. Little Caesar, Junkyard, the Hangmen--even the names were redolent of dirty rock & roll, Harleys, and barroom brawls. A new breed of rebel rock has emerged in Buckcherry--sober, tattooed blues-metallers whose charismatic singer, Josh Todd, boasts a compelling Iggy Pop-Jim Morrison-Axl Rose persona. Buckcherry's 12-track debut album, produced by Terry Date (Pantera) with coproduction from former Sex Pistol Steve Jones, kicks off with the nasty, aggressive groove of "Lit Up." While the song is irresistible, many might have a problem with the "I love the cocaine" chorus. Still, Todd's persona works well with the band's aggro, melodic stomp, and with bands such as the Black Crowes, Nashville Pussy, and Honky Toast keeping barroom rock alive, Buckcherry are a ballsy and bold entry into the fray, as suited to share a stage with Hanoi Rocks as they would be with Motörhead. --Katherine Turman

Buckcherry reestablish their status as one of the most raucous and delightfully dirty-minded acts in the industry today with 15, a truly bombastic rock & roll blast. Vocalist Josh Todd leads this high-energy act into battle with the colossal one-two-three punch of "So Far," "Next 2 You," and "Out Of Line," each anchored by the weighty rhythm section of drummer Xavier Muriel and bassist Jimmy Ashhurst, then elevated by the Olympian guitar attack of Keith Nelson and Stevie D. But while an appropriate levity prevails on those tracks and others--such as "Crazy Bitch," "Broken Glass," and the good time stomp "Brooklyn"--the band also find time to show a more sensitive and mature side with the hit-worthy and country-inflected "Carousel," plus the unapologetically melancholy "Sorry." If there's a fault to be found on 15 it doesn't reveal itself easily, and if there's a fault to be found with Buckcherry it is perhaps that they imbue listeners with a zest for living. But that clearly is no crime. --Jedd Beaudoin

Album Description

The band who broke onto the national scene in 1999 returns. "I am playing the hell out of it. It combines all the best elements of Aerosmith and Guns N Roses in their prime" - Eddie Trunk (Q104 NYC syndicated radio host and VH1 Classic on-air personality). "Coming on like the Black Crowes by way of AC/DC, this LA-based band is at its best blasting its way through hard-hitting riff rockers" - Entertainment Weekly.

Bought the album a while back and had to put a very kind review.Fan of theirs since the self-tiltled album and glad they came back.Since the album came out,it has sold almost 1 million copies. Pretty good,I should say.Just a very solid mix of rockers and ballads. "So Far","Next 2 You","Everything","Crazy Bitch" & "Sunshine" are the standouts. If you love straight in-your-face rock, pick it up.

4 out of 5 stars Don't get nearly the respect they deserve.......2007-03-21

Although I am glad to see the band getting some play with their new single "Crazy Bitch" most people forget these guys had two rockin albums before 15. Their debut album was refreshing to hear when it came out as the bands lyrics, music and Josh Todd's swagger reminded me of the days of GNR with the powerful frontman and overall sex drugs and rock n' roll lifestyle, the presence of which was severely lacking in the late 90's. The whole album is just solid rock. Highlights are Lit Up, Dead Again, Dirty Mind and the ballad For the Movies. Good stuff and good to see em back.

5 out of 5 stars real rock n' roll.......2007-02-19

These guys are so raw and in your face. The first time I heard "all lit up" I was hooked.

3 out of 5 stars Just ok.......2007-01-04

Decent album but the follow up, 15, was much better. I was familiar with a few tracks when I bought the album and unfortunately for Buckcherry, none of the stuff I didn't know really grew on me.

4 out of 5 stars What A Start.......2006-08-02

Buckcherry ****

What a beautiful beginning. Buckcherry are the best straight up rock and roll band around today, there is no disputing that. The band seems to get better with each album because this, the bands first and self-titled release is a far cry from their recent third album, 15. What Buckcherry did here on their first album was fuse the styles of their idols like Guns N' Roses and Aerosmith with bluesy grooves and soulful vocals. Boy do they do that well. To really serve this album full justice one would have to listen to it, as you would with all of the bands albums. While this isn't as good as the bands later releases it is still a good solid album.

Joshua Todd's vocals are phenomenal. It's the only word that comes to mind. Full of passion and angst. His lyrics at this point struggled a little bit for maturity but were great rock and roll lyrics none the less. The man is the prototypical front-man for this generation of rock lovers. Keith Neilson is one of the strongest guitar players around. He knows exactly what to play and what not to play and more importantly when to play it. This album was before they added second guitarist Steve D. The rhythm section is nice and strong here but was replaced after the release of this album with a new drummer and bass player. But the point is the musicianship on this debut is of the quality of a veteran band.

The album opens with what is the bands best song and what I believe will go down as the bands signature song, `Lit Up.' It's perfectly arranged with awesome guitar nice vocals, and a killer chorus that reads "I love the cocaine, I love the cocaine." This is one killer song that should be heard by all and Im guessing if your thinking about buying this album this song is part of the reason why. `Crushed' is a great song. One of the strongest songs on the album, simply subject, rock and roll. `Dead Again' is a fast paced rocker with hard driving drums but does grow old after a few listens. `Check Your Head' is just boring while `Dirty Mind' is a killer and one of the better songs on the album. `For The Movies' is slower but still a good song, much better then `Check Your Head.' `Lawless And Lulu' is fantastic. A real good rocker that everyone will enjoy. `Related' can get a little old after a while but is still a really great song. `Borderline' is a nice change of pace in that it is a slower bluesy song. Very cool and contains a really good groove. `Get Back' and `Baby' are awesome, both are heavy rockers that contain great guitar through and through. The album ends great, couldn't have been done any better. `Drink The Water' is a killer rocker with great guitar and cool vocals. The slide guitar by Neilson is fantastic and really adds to the song. The songs ends the album with a bang, leaving you wanting more Buckcherry, which is exactly what the last song on the album should leave you wanting.

So while Buckcherry is not as good as Time Bomb, or 15, it is still a very good album that is sure to please any real rock fan. Besides this album really does have something for all music fans no matter the genre. So do yourself a favor and pick up Buckcherry. Highly Recommended.

Amazon.com's Best of 2001

If you liked this bunch's self-titled debut, you will certainly dig the dozen raunchy tunes that populate Time Bomb. Wiry, wild Joshua Todd--a classic blues-belting, tattoo-bearing frontman--possesses a gift for irony that, while not easily gleaned, does exist. Behind him, guitars grind away, while big production by John Travis (Monster Magnet, Sugar Ray) helps create a believable street-grit feel that recalls early Guns N' Roses. The Sex Pistols-like "Place in the Sun" is a winner, as is the full-tilt "Frontside" and the suitably nasty "Porno Star." There are even a couple decent ballads! At its hard core, Time Bomb is that rare breed--an in-your-face, aggressive rock album that shows off a wonderful (and too rare) punk rock sensibility. --Katherine Turman

5 out of 5 stars Time Bomb.......2007-03-28

Time Bomb-Buckcherry *****

If you heard the debut album then you know what to expect. With their hard rocking California style and their punk leanings Buckcherry have once again released an album that will please even the hardest of rock credicts. This was the bands second album before their nearly eight years hiatious causing phenomonal frontman Joshua Todd to persue a solo project which while promising was nothing compared to the power of Buckcherry. Keith Neilson laid low over the next couple of years until Buckcherry reformed in 2005 with all new members except Neilson and Todd for the album 15 (also recomended).

Partys, durgs, alcohol, getting laid, and living the rock n' roll lifestyle are the main subjects of this album. From the start of the album with 'Frontside' you can tell the band means buisness. It's a killer song with high energy, and great way to start the album. Next is the semi-hit single 'Ridin' which is one of the bands best songs and a concert favorite. A great party song! 'Time Bomb' the title track is exactly that...a bomb waiting to blow. In your face from start to finish and some great guitar work from Keith and Yogi. It's easy to see why this is the title track. 'Porno Star' is about what else..."big 'blank, mother blank porno stars." Great bluesy guitar playing here and some great vocals from Todd. 'Place In The Sun' is very Sex Pistols esq. It is done well but the song could have been better. 'Helpless' is a great song, very emotion and personal. Once again Todds vocals are at the top of his game. 'Underneath' is alright I do think the album would be alright with out it but it does make for a nice addition. 'Slit My Wrists' is killer, without a doubt one of the best songs the band has ever composed. Very high energy and yet laid back at the same time. 'Whiskey In The Morning' is one of the better songs on the album. It has a great bridge in the middle where everything slows down and Todds vocals get real high. The guitar playing is probably the best on the album. 'You' is so good it hurts. A bitter sweet love song with out of this world good lyrics. This really shows that the boys are more then just dirty gritty rock and roll songs. 'Slamin' is just everything Buckcherry is. Thats the best thing to say about it and really the only thing you can say about it. It maybe the best song one the album, at least the second best. 'Fall' is a great song that was released as a single but did not chart very well and it is hard to explain why because it is a great song. 'Open My Eyes' is a bonus track on the album and it goes without saying that it is the best song here. Just Joshua Todd, a piano, his voice, and the best lyrics he has ever written in his life and really some of the greatest lyrics ever written. This man is a genius. On a personal note this song helped me to purpose to my wife. This song is amazing and a brilliant way to end the album.

Surprsingly this album flopped. The record company Dreamworks folded right after the release of the which left no money for videos or any promotion of any kind making the album vertually unknown with the exception of the 'Ridin' video. So they decided to go their sepperate ways and only Todd and Neilson have done anything since then.

Time Bomb is an album that I would recomend to anyone who loves rock n' roll. If you heard the debut, 15, or even Joshua Todds solo work "You Made Me" then you will surly love this album as well. I am just glad that the band is back togther making great music once again because Buckcherry is truly the best band to come along in the last fifteen years.

5 out of 5 stars Vastly underrated band and album.......2007-03-21

The label needs to hurry up and get this album back into print, hopefully these guys are on the rise again. Timebomb is a solid sophomore effort for Buckcherry, I even prefer it to their first album. The highlights in my mind? Time Bomb and Porno Star both have great choruses, granted you don't buy the "clean" version I imagine. Slit My Wrists is great, and Whiskey in the Morning is just a good old fashioned rocker that I love about these guys. On the other hand, you can play Open My Eyes to get your girlfriend to shed a tear..lol.

5 out of 5 stars Must-have. Absolutely must!.......2007-01-28

There's just something about this band, and especially this album... it's powerful. Amazon really needs a sound sample of "Slit My Wrists" - THE best song on here, with strangely beautiful and melodic parts placed inside a fast, upbeat tune (despite the dark title). The band is generally raunchy but some lyrics are surprisingly deep and unbelievably intense. I wish I had gotten into this band sooner - they're amazing, and just get better as they go!

3 out of 5 stars Slamin' Rock 'N' Roll.......2006-02-13

If you love a band that has that great classic rock sound Buckcherry is the band for you. I got this cd the day it came out and I still listen to it to this day. If you ever get a chance to see them live you will understand what all the buzz is about.

Stand Out Tracks:
Ridin' (single)
Porno Star (single)
Whiskey In The Morning
Slamin'

4 out of 5 stars They Tried.......2005-09-20

You gotta hand it to 'em, they tried to bring the talent and the attitude back to Rock n Roll, but sadly thanks to deaf ears and corporate radio, it didn't add up to sales. Time Bomb was a killer follow-up to their debut, but much to my dismay, the wayward, "impress me today because you're so yesterday" fans they made w/ their first cd abandoned them. This cd did not disappoint in any way, it was just a dropped ball by the record co. , radio, and "fans". The good reviews it received on this site say it all. The "GnR Lite" reviewers are the people who only liked Buckcherry for the 'caine reference in Lit Up. How sad. Their new stuff will probably be just as killer as the S/T and T.B cd's , but unfortunatly, the whole vibe of the rock scene is still the same.

    The Good
Despite the fact this release is an obvious cash-in, it's still the album that put Buckcherry on the map and allowed them a little bit of recognition for a while. Who can forget the jarring opening riffs out the balls-to-the wall party anthem "Lit Up?" I still turn the radio up every time this one kicks off on the radio. "Crushed" is also just as in-your-face and raw as it's predecessor. "Check Your Head" starts off like one of those poignant ballads with acoustic guitars under smooth vocals. The pace picks up as vocalist Josh Todd gets into how your life could be worse.

Buckcherry infuses some bluesy tones and virtuoso style soloing into "Dirty Mind." When this album came out back in 1999, the rock power ballad was pretty much dead. "For the Movies" took me right back to that time with it's slow, emotional verses, and powerful choruses. Even though the lyrical content has been done ad nauseam, the musical arrangement still moves me. "Borderline" also has a blues swagger to it that compliments Todd's cock-sure delivery perfectly. Guitarist Keith Nelson puts his wah-wah pedal to good use on "Get Back."

The bonus DVD included gives you all of Buckcherry's videos that were released for the album; "Lit Up," "For the Movies," "Check Your Head," and "Dead Again." In addition to that, three live performances from the Viper Room, as well as an alternate version of "For the Movies." But that's not all. 2 unreleased audio tracks, "Late Nights in Voodoo" and "Flashback 69," and a live version of "Lit Up" from Woodstock '99 are also included.

    The Bad
And for the third and final time...it's a cash in. The band probably won't see a dime.

    The Verdict
Buckcherry's debut is a long way from the melodic and smoothed over sounds of their latest album 15, but still a piece of their hard rock history. Even though the group has come a long way from their humble beginnings, you can still hear the groundwork being laid for their future success with this collection of impactful music.

I love these guys, great reissue with a dvd If you have the first album already you'll still want this for the dvd, which has there video's + some live stuff. Packaging is pretty much the same, my only complaint is that they should have put some bonus tracks on the cd, there's a couple on the dvd.

Josh Todd, former singer of the hard rock band Buckcherry, reads alternate-historical fiction in his spare time. He's especially fond of tales of parallel Americas, ones where the warring tribes of metal and rap never made peace. In those Americas, Todd would be a rock star. Unfortunately, like Howard the Duck, he's trapped in world he never made; his resolute brand of glam-laced metal risks falling on teen ears unaccustomed to the feral joys of Guns N' Roses and Slayer, among the many black-clad outfits from whom he and his backing band borrow liberally. If this solo debut has no single song with the immediate power of Buckcherry's "Lit Up" or "Ridin'," it has several that come close, especially "Blast," which is as concussive as pop gets, the perfect vehicle for his artfully scratchy tenor. The album's first single, "Shine," is unworthy of Todd, a Creed-like anthem from a man who previously channeled porn stars and maniacs with hypnotic glee. Otherwise, though, You Made Me is tight and driven. Reportedly, Todd got his youthful new band by answering an ad for a singer. Between their hunger and his frustration with the state of rock & roll, they have fire to spare. --Marc Weidenbaum

      4 out of 5 stars Unworthy.......2007-03-25

"You Made Me" by Josh Todd ****

Well to begin with Joshua Todd is todays rock n' roll frontman. He has it all and lacks nothing. Looks, bad boy image, attitude, tattoo's, an amazing voice, great lyrical talent, and charisma. The band is made up of California kids who are basicaly 'no names' which is what Todd was going for but they sound like Default, Three Days Grace, or even Nickleback...none of which are any good.

On YOU MADE ME the band is helped because they have Todd as a front man so where they lack he makes up. The band is unworthy of him to say the least. Now the album is good with some incredible songs such as 'Circles' 'Mind Infection' the lead single 'Shine' and the great 'Flowers And Cages.' the rest of the album is great as well but these are where it really shines.

The musician ship here is a real step down from Buckcherry. Im glad Todd did not try to recreate Buckcherry without Buckcherry but these musicians are sub-par. The riffs are weak and the only real one is in 'Flowers And Cages' the bass is that of a begginer, while the drumming is fairly decent.

I am glad however that he did decide to go a different route then what he was used to with Buckcherry. This record sounds more angry and frustraited and anoyed rather then about getting wasted and having a good time and getting laid twenty four seven. This shows the much darker side of Joshua Todd the world had not seen or known about previously. Joshua's performance is incredible but at times can seem forced as this does not seem like his true style of music or the kind he loves either, he feels out of place in parts like 'The Walls' but still pulls it off nicely

As a whole this is a great, solid alternative hard rock record giving the time of release. However the backing band and the songs alone may be good but they are both clearly unworthy of his talents especially concidering his work with Buckcherry.but overall a good album.

5 out of 5 stars Great solo effort from one of my favorite singers.......2006-07-13

When I first got this record, I was blown away by the first track, "Mind Infection." Then, to be honest, I was pretty disappointed by the rest of the CD and put it aside for a few months. Eventually, I went back to it, and it seemed like I'd get into another song every time I'd listen to the album. There are still 2 or 3 tracks that I won't listen to and have deleted from my iPod, but I like this CD almost as much as the 3 Buckcherry albums.

Don't buy this album expecting it to be just like Buckcherry (it's not that far off, but it definitely has a different feel to it), but do get it if you're looking for an album full of memorable songs featuring one of the best singers in rock today.

      4 out of 5 stars Solid Work.......2006-03-22

I respect Josh Todd. He does his own thing. When his former Buckcherry bandmates (with exception of guitarist Keith Nelson) leave the band, he moves on. When corporate America doesn't want to put out his record, he starts his own label. In fact, the story of the band has it that Todd was the one who answered a local ad for a band looking for a lead singer. The music is great, anyone who likes hard rock will like this. The production is clean and crisp. The lyrics, well, are a slightly different Todd. Less sex and drugs More more pain and venting. And that's what music is all about. Cathartic. Powerful. No it's not Buckcherry. And it shouldn't be. After all, do you really want more of the same? Change is good. So is this album.

      5 out of 5 stars DO IT.......2005-11-26

YOU MADE ME...DO IT(FEEL).IN AN MYSTERIOUS WORLD THE ENLIGHTENMENT OF YOUR C.D. BRINGS A RARE FORM OF EMOTIONS AS JOSH TODD EXPRESSES HIMSELF IN AN ABSTRACT WAY...I FIND THE RYTHEM OF BEATS AND LYRICS HITTING RIGHT AT HOME. MY EARS INVOKE THE SOUNDS THAT THIS BAND AND VOICE HAS CREATED IN "YOU MADE ME". TO TELL THE TRUTH I BELIEVE THAT THEY ARE WAY AHEAD OF THEIR TIME. THIS IS WHY I ENJOY THEM AS MUCH AS I DO. THANK YOU FOR THE RELEASE AND MY FAVORITE "CIRCLES" YOUR FRIEND AT YAHOO MESSENGER, GODSWINGS

5 out of 5 stars Josh Todd Bucks My Cherry.......2005-11-04

This is one of my favorate independent albums, ever. No matter what mood you are in Josh Todd will bring out the animal in you when you pop this cd into your player. He has the voice, the lyrics and definantly the look to make you quiver with this high-energy album.

      5 out of 5 stars BUCKCHERRY.......2006-04-30

ALL BUCKCHERRY KICKS A**...NO MATTER WHAT BUCKCHERRY CD U GET U WON'T BE SORRY!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Nice to hear that the band has matured as musicians.......2006-04-27

      The Good
The album's first track "So Far" has all of the energy and attitude that Buckcherry's prior releases had. "Next 2 You" has a great bluesy backbeat to it. The chorus is as infectious as it is relatable. "Out of Line" brings the distortion down a bit and focuses more on the melodic side of the band. "Everything" switches the melodic focus to vocalist Josh Todd. He does a lot more singing, as opposed to cock-sure shouting. You'll hear more and more of this throughout the album. "Crazy Bitch" is a hard rocker that explores the joys and perils of being a hard rock frontman. It has been eluded to that Paris Hilton was the inspiration behind it. If you have a chance to catch the video, I highly recommend it. "Brooklyn" explores more of that bluesy sound with some 12-bar blues and slide guitar.

      The Bad
      Nothing notable

      The Verdict
If you're prepared for a more melodic and diverse Buckcherry, then 15 will certainly appeal to you. Some people who are used to tracks like "Lit Up" and "Ridin'" might be a little disappointed. It was nice to hear that the band has matured as musicians, but maintained the right amount of attitude to keep their edge.

5 out of 5 stars Gotta Love It! .......2006-04-19

I do admit that at first it took me a couples time to get into this albumn, but it has won me over and gets better each time I listen to it, acutally I can't stop listening to it. I love the "raunchy rock" lyrics, especially in "Crazy Bitch"! It is good to hear actual thoughs straight up, not alot of bands out there do what Buckcherry does and mean it! They have a very wide variety of music with each track that all I need to listen to is them. Love em'!

      2 out of 5 stars Where's the creativity?.......2006-04-07

The BEST Hard Rock cd I've bought in a long time. The guitars, harmony, melodies, what can I say. You've got to listen to it for yourself. It's been on repeat 1 cd since I got it. Pick it up you won't be dissapointed.

4 out of 5 stars Feel what Buck Cherry is singing...........2001-04-11

This CD is terrific, classic Buck Cherry at it's finest. The track Porno Star made me want to go out and screw the neighbor's wife and then make a move about it. Then, when I was ready to settle down, the song slit my wrists had me in the emergency room. I got so into this "hit" that I actually slit my own wrists. This CD is great and I would suggest it to anyone.
