2 out of 5 stars This is punk?.......2007-06-30

Yeah, some of it is okay. I'm a fan of both Punk AND Emo/Screamo. This is def a bait and switch though. You could tell Anti-Flag was thrown on there to gain street cred with the punk crowd. But anyone that actually listens to punk would shut this off before even getting to that far in the album. Jack's Mannequin is punk?

I think they should have done two cd's. Emo Goes Acoustic and Punk Goes Acoustic. Put the stuff on the right CD so people don't grab it expecting something totally not what they are promoting.

5 out of 5 stars "Unplugged" music fans need to discover this CD.......2007-06-03

Most tracks on this CD boast outstanding production skill and highest quality recording equipment. These tracks work well together and provide gorgeous hooks and harmonies throughout. If you love unplugged music, you should buy this CD. I can't stop listening to it. Don't miss the Jack's Mannequin acoustic song, "Bruised," but each song stands on its own and is worth listening to. These acoustic versions allow you to appreciate the intimate features of each vocalist in ways that you otherwise couldn't.

2 out of 5 stars Flavor of the Week.......2007-05-26

This is a fair to decent CD for what it is, and it's nice to see a "Punk Goes" disc that isn't full of cover songs for once. With that being said, Punk Goes Acoustic 2 is still nothing more than a cash in by Fearless Records, a "Now 203 or whatever for alternative music fans. The majority of this disc is filled with the latest pop rock/emo flavors of the week, Anti-Flag and Set Your Goals are merely thrown in for street cred (as attested to by their track numbers).
I'm not bashing this CD because it's not "punk", most of the band's put on a good performance, but it's hard not to laugh at a record that features Daphne Loves Derbe and the Spill Canvas next to a band like Anti-Flag. I think Jello Biafra would have a thing to say about this.
Buy this if you can't get over your 7th grade girlfriend.

5 out of 5 stars Punk goes acoustic is the best.......2006-08-19

Seriously, it is the best album ever. Acoustic rocks!

5 out of 5 stars Someone put some Emo in my Punk........2006-06-13

If you are reading this you must be thinking of buying this. Think no more, buy this now. Trust me you will not regret this. Im not going to lie this is deffinatly an Emoish cd but it is amazing. What this cd is, its an accoustic cd by punk and other types of bands.

5 out of 5 stars This CD is the best i own.......2006-06-07

i had 20 bucks and i was walking around borders looking for a good cd. i had previously bought some other compilations (atticus) and i enjoyed them, and i had seen this cd named as album on itunes for some songs. So i bought it for 13 bucks which is an amazingly good deal for such an amazing cd. i would pay 50 bucks for something this great.
This cd is a must have for any fan of any genre of music. Every single song on this cd is great and there is not one i would skip over. I seriously have listened to this cd at least 50 times through, it is that great. Standouts for me are Velvet Alley by Strung Out, Time to Talk by Open Hand, Cute Without the E by TBS, Swing Life Away by Rise Against, Alone in the World by Glasseater, etc etc i could list the whole cd but that is already shown here. This cd is amazing please do yourself a favor and buy it immediately.

5 out of 5 stars Don't only judge on signing performance... Listen to the lyrics!.......2006-03-23

True, some artists give a very weak performance on this album if you only look at the signing talent. BUT, on most of the songs the lyrics are far better than anything else written in my opinion. I like the original verison of most of the songs and I'm really glad there is now an acoustic version that makes it more like a ballad. If you take time to listen to the lyrics, you'll def. like the song better than for the signing performance along (take Taking Back Sunday as an example). I must have listened to this cd about 1000 times and I still listen to it regularly.

3 out of 5 stars Merely Okay.......2005-05-16

I fear that this album simply reveals that some bands are just not good stripped from the magic of the studio. More so, that many singers are simply not cut out to actually be vocalists. True, the album does have a certain amount of talented musicians and they do have good acoustic tracks, but others...well, you get the point. Purchase the album mainly for the fact that you can see what bands are actually gifted in the realm of music, and which are suited only for studio production.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Very original.......2006-08-15

This cd is a very good idea as are all the other seires, punk goes metal, pop, 80's etc, and I am a big fan of acoustic songs I think they are very meaningful and in punk cases they show the parts that are missed out in the real versions due to the overdrive and stuff.
1.Time To Talk-4/5 A very nice song with beautiful melodies and an above average vocal part for this cd
2.Trust-3/5 Thrice I can honestly say are much better in studio, his song has pretty bad vocals and the guitars aren't amazing
3.Firewater- 4/5 Yellowcard are much helped by their violin player, the vocals are allright, listenable but they could be much better,a nice song though
4.Memory- 4/5Wow this is one of the only guys on here who can actually sing his song, the end isn't as polished as the start though, this song is good in all versions I've heard
5.Letters To You- 4/5 Finch have always been one of my favorites and this song didn't change my mind, vocals are good, not great and the overall music is well played and the solo at the end is very nice
6.A Hole In The World- 4/5 I was so happy Thursday was on this, I haven't heard the real version but I definitely love the acoustic version, the singer against all my expectations isn't as bad as I thought he would be, he isn't amazing most definitely but can sing his part, very nice melodies and a beautiful typical atmospheric Thursday song
7.Playing Favorites- 4/5 Vocals are allright and this song stands out as it starts very strongly and brightly with very nice sounding guitars
8.Velvet Alley-3/5 Bad vocals, but the melodies and the overall music is pretty good
9.Eight Of Nine-4/5 The vocals are pretty good, the music is nice and everything is arranged well
10.Cute Without The E- -255/5 This is definitely not a cute song, I feel ashamed that Taking Back Sunday wrote "New American Classic" my favorite song, this is a nice song, in the original version, but thhey just totally ruined it, I never thought someone could possibly sing this bad oh it's appaling this band are famous and aren't even capable of playing their own song properly!!
11.Chloroform Perfume- 3/5 When I saw this I thought wow metalcore in acoustic, can that work, actually yes, but the vocals don't work, the melodies on guitar are beautiful and heartfelt but the vocals sound like chickens trying to shout like wolves
12.Swing Life Away-5/5 I already had this song before buying this cd and it's one of my favorite songs ever, it's simply amazing, I'd buy this cd with that song on it alone
13.The King-3/5 Weird voice, not too bad just a weird voice, the song sounds like some medieval music that would be played in castles
14.Over It-4/5 Superb simple melody at the start, but it definitely works, the vocals aren't too bad for a change, not amazing but he can sing the right keys
15.Chalk Line-2/5Terrible vocals, really appaling, the music is energy-less and boring
16.Away To The Heart-4/5 Not many songs include drums in this album and this one is the best with drums on, vocals are allright, and the melodies are beautiful
17.Blue Collar Lullaby- 3/5 Very moody, very dark, and the vocals aren't heard much, very quiet, kind of a scary song
18.Gathering Darkness- 2/5 After a scary song a nice tune comes on and is ruined almost straight off with some of the worst vocals ever performed, doesn't beat TBS though...nothing does except maybe when this dude starts screaming I laughed...
19.Alone In The World- 3/5 I hate the feeling of this song, sounds like something Eagles could've written, the vocals are allrght though
20.Knew It All Along- 4/5 Nice tune at the start, the vocals are not very good but Midtown understood that maybe they should put the vocals less loud than the guitars, I thought this wasn't a great way to finish an album, a better song should've been used instead.
So overall I recommend this cd for any fans of these bands and for anyone who thinks TBS is amazing just to kinda give them a kick in the head, it took me this to realise it but now I get why so many people hate them, I thought a Dashboard song would have been nice on here, anyways this is a good cd but do not buy it of you are like a singing teacher or if you have very good ears for notes

3 out of 5 stars What about Coalece?.......2006-05-11

Wow, didn't expect to see Coalesce on this cd. I love Coalesce for their strange time signatures and dirty vocals. How cool is it to hear them do an acoustic song, complete with harmony, and some dirtiness at the end. They even held a 4/4 time sig. for a whole song. Blue Collar Lullaby knocked my sox off, but that may be because i am a huge Coalesce fan. The rest of the cd is ok, thats it.

3 out of 5 stars I love Amazon, it's always high comedy.......2006-01-06

You know, one of my favorite things to do on this website is to browse through the "hot" bands out now and see people arguing about them, it is pretty high on the comedy scale. This CD is a perfect example of that, it's nice to hear everyone deciding what is and isn't "punk". Can I ask you an honest question, does it matter? If this was called Polka Goes Acoustic but had the same bands, would you complain that Yellowcard isn't polka? REAL polka is Frankie Yankovic, EVERYONE knows that. What does it matter what type of music it is if you like it? If you don't like the music, that's fine, but to not like something because of a label, I'll just say a simple "grow up".

Now let me step off of my soapbox for a moment and review this CD. I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of most bands on here, and a lot of the songs on here reminded me why I don't like them: they can't sing. Don't get me wrong, these bands can write catchy songs, but most of them have singers who are below average to put it kindly. I won't go song by song here, but I will point out some songs that hit me. The Yellowcard song, I knew it was Yellowcard right away because of the completely unnecessary "look at me, I play the violin" moment in the beginning. If you like Yellowcard, you'll like this. The Finch song comes across very nicely, again, the guy can't sing but it's a very nice song and arranged nicely.

Thursday, meh, Starting Line, meh - both bands obviously put a lot of thought into the song arrangements, very simple but very full. The real stand out of this CD is the Strung Out song Velvet Alley. Just a beautiful song, incredibly touching lyrics and just a hint of a cello in the background, not very noticeable, but adds a real layer to the song. The Taking Back Sunday song, Amazon won't let me use the language needed to describe this song, but let's just say I could play and sing the song better, and I don't play guitar or sing. Way to put 5 seconds of thought into the song gentleman, truly artistes.

The rest, eh some very interesting songs (From Autumn to Ashes somehow "works" acoustic and the Rufio song isn't too bad). Basically if you like these bands and are willing to open your minds a little you'll enjoy this. If you don't like this music because it's too whiny, the acoustic versions will do nothing to sway you. I actually am someone who enjoys acoustic versions of songs (the Tony Sly/Joey Cape split was incredible, and Greg Graffin's solo CD, American Lesion is awesome as well).

So seriously people, if you're browsing this you're probably into these bands, so give it a listen, it might hit you a certain way (the Strung Out song really hit me), or you might hate it, who am I to say? But don't judge this CD because the bands aren't "punk" in your opinion.

4 out of 5 stars Oh stop your arguing........2005-05-08

Does the genre really matter? Just listen to whatever sounds good and to heck with all the bollocks out there. Now stop whinning about whether these are true punk bands and tell people whether this is a good buy or not.

Thursday and Taking Back Sunday have excelent tracks on here. Probably the best two. Most of the other songs tend to grow on you. But the first two tracks I mentioned warrant a buy on their own. Not for $14 bucks, mind you. Maybe $9.99 or somewhere around there. I'm sure you could find this cheaper at an actual store.

If you don't like acoustic music or any of these bands then you should probably spend your money on something else.

2 out of 5 stars meh.......2004-12-23

I hate to participate in this genre debate but I will anyway. To me, punk/hardcore is DIY, basement/house shows, we don't need your highly record label we can support ourselves because we're all a community. That said, to me, this isn't punk. But whatever, if you like these bands BUY IT! Do it!

however, if you want to hear some amazing acoustic punk bands (sometimes compared to folk music), listen to:
Ghost Mice, Defiance OH, Operation: Cliff Clavin (they have one acoustic album), Best Friends Forever, This Bike is a Pipe Bomb, (obviously) Against Me!, Sawwheel, Madeline, and if you like mellow acoustic mixed with powerful screams check out the mighty (MIGHTY) 1905.
1905 is absolutely killer, these kids have such impeccable talent and great lyrics... goosebumps!

:) peace kids, don't hate each other, enjoy everything the undeground has to offer!
