This Band Defies You To Dislike Them!.......2007-04-16

It can't be done, unless you hate all the elements which make up a good pop record. Ian Broudie and his band created music that sinks into your brain and leaves a mark like a barrel of wine spilled on a white shag carpet. 'Life of Riley' should be distilled and marketed under the brand name Catchy Cola, coming in a very close second after 'Three Lions', a song so melodic it forced me to love it in spite of not caring a tinkers' cuss about Football, American and British definitions of the word included. Not to say the 'Seeds do not have their introspective side! 'Waiting For Today to Happen' is somewhat fatalistic and bleak, a fact that will escape almost everyone until they get past the beautiful music long enough to reflect upon the lyrics. If you're looking for something to validate your drearily held belief that life is Misery and no mortal has ever suffered the misunderstandings the Clods and Philistines have thrust upon your sensitive soul, keep looking. This CD is for people who are happiest when they're happy.

The lightning seeds are a great band. Their songs can best be described as airy and light, makes you feel all fluffy, soft and warm inside. I love this band. When I have a hard time choosing something to listen to I just pop in the lightning seeds and it makes my day. I absolutely adore the lead singer's voice as well. They're simple and kind of popish, but they're a joy to listen to. Highly recommended.

The Lightning Seeds is one of my favourite bands... And this album just proves why. Like You Do is a collection of britpop at it's best. If you are wondering what The Seeds are about, this is the perfect album to start off with. One spin and I garuntee you'll be hooked - and no doubt will this album make you wonder what is wrong with "pop" nowadays. This album is truly timeless. I can still listen to it after 8 years and the songs just don't sound dated at all. It's just a shame that The Seeds are no more. Give your senses a treat and get this album. You won't be disappointed!

A must-have.......2001-02-24

My tale of woe and redemption starts several years ago: A friend had given me a tape of the Lightning Seeds, and then some time later, another friend ran over it with her car (by mistake). I was devastated, but didn't have the money to replace it. Over time, I forgot about the lightning seeds. But then I found this CD, and my life is once again complete. This is what britpop *should* be - great exercise music, great staying-up-late-at-work music - just great music. I don't agree with the reviewer who said "Three Lions" would be lost on Americans - it's a great song and any sports fan can appreciate the sentiment behind it. "Life of Riley," "Sense," "All I Want," and "Sugar Coated Iceberg" are real, inspired, hooky songs that stay in your head and make you smile. A shame that, in the States at least, no one knew about the Lightning Seeds even after Susanna Hoffs had a hit with her cover of "All I Want." This really is a great CD.

A good collection of a reliable singles band.......2000-12-14

The 1989 smash Pure really has to be one of the greatest songs of all time. The melody, the positive lyrics, the instant singalong potential, it just couldn't be better. Ian Broudie is one of the best modern-day exponents of the pop song in all it's glory. The football anthem Three Lions will sadly be lost on Americans, but make sure to hear tracks like Sense, The Life Of Riley, Marvellous and Ready Or Not. All are simple perfection. Though a few tracks aren't amazing (and for a greatest hits album this is a shame) but this comes as a good buy for Indie-Pop fans.

I would have to admit that Lightning Seeds is one of the best alternative bands I've ever heard. I like their music style, quite simple and easy to listen to. The songs are generally great. I like the lyrics and the music, quite different from a lot of bands in a way. I recommend it to anyone whether looking for a good song, cd browsing, or die hard fan.

absolutely great material - incorporating the backbone of brit pop. "life of riley", the everlasting classic, "sense" - maybe their best cut at all, "what you say", "you showed me" & "waiting for today to happen". broudie et al. are genious. if you're into british pop music you gotta have this one in your collection.

From the day I heard "Sugar Coated Iceberg" on Noel's House Party, I have loved the Lightning Seeds. I know that this band (yes, Ian Broudie did form a band for the "Dizzy Heights" tour) does not suit some people's tastes, but for me, they succeed in making me happy and sad with all their tunes. There is not a single stinker on this "best of" album, but there are some that are better than others. I believe that songs like "Marvellous", "Ready Or Not", "Life of Riley" and "Sugar Coated Iceberg" are better than "What You Say", "Sense" and "What If..." but that doesn't mean those three aren't any good. I'm sure that anyone with a taste for good music will find something they like in this album. Living in England I have more access to Lightning Seeds material like their best album "Dizzy Heights" and the nearly-as-good-as "Jollification". Every song on "Like You Do" has a rhythm that will put a smile on your face. Buy it if you see it!
