For his first solo album in over 20 years, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry isn't exactly tearing up the blueprint. He may not have Diane Warren faxing over the power-ballads but this eponymous release is pretty much what you would expect from the man who has provided the sleazy, powerhouse riffs for everything from "Walk This Way" to "Dude Looks Like A Lady." He's no Steven Tyler but Perry holds his own on the vocal tracks here, including respectful covers of the Doors' "Crystal Ship" and Woody Guthrie's "Vigilante Man." But it's the bluesy instrumental material like "Twilight" and "Mercy" that shows the guitar hero (who also plays bass, keyboards and co-produces) at his amplifier blowing best. --Aidin Vaziri

If one had told an Aerosmith fan in 1975 that three decades hence they'd be shelling out a handful of c-notes to see their heroes rocking a Las Vegas quasi-lounge, they'd have likely chuckled, slapped the headphones back over their greasy locks and cranked up Toys in the Attic for its 897th go `round. But here they are, American hard rock's greatest survivors, rockin', talkin' `n' walking an artistic tightrope at the Hard Rock Café's Joint between expected crotch-rock chestnuts (a blues-sassed "Same Old Song and Dance," a hard-charging "Draw the Line" and obligatory "Walk This Way") and their unlikely latter-day incarnation the MOR ballad-mongers of Diane Warren's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing." But if gritty takes on "No More No More" and the shadowy "Seasons of Wither" point up just how formulaic the band had become by the time of Just Push Play's "Light Inside," their snotty covers of "Big Ten Inch" and "Rattlesnake Shake," Fleetwood Mac's `60s ode to self-love, argue they're still 15 at heart - even if the focused performances here are obviously the product of grizzled veterans. The DVD program on this Dual Disc edition features live video takes of the album's "No More.." and "Draw the Line," as well as bonus performances of early band staples "Dream On" and "Sweet Emotion." --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

The Music Definately Did The Talking.......2003-11-08
an ultimate classic 1980 release, that is a treat for your ears.
Ralph Morman gives more than 100% here, and Joe's guitar work is like always, (great). The musicians behind this great piece are nothing less than masters.I beleive Greg Kihn had a tune out in the 80's that best sums up how I personally feel about this cd.
and that is (They Don't Write Em Like This Anymore)
***** Five big ones here. Platinum all the way.
Joe Perry Project is ON FIRE!.......2003-01-01
The opening title track, "Let The Music Do The Talking" is the greatest song on the album. It starts out with a big bass riff and then a short drum roll and then, BANG! Joe kicks in with the loud guitar riffs. This song is so INTENSE and is a GENUINE ANTHEMETIC MASTERPIECE!! Some lyrics are, "Wanna take a chance and dance before. I got to leave alone. On short song and she'll be gone. I wish her off was on. Gotta try, gotta try another way to get her. To come around to me. Let The Music Do The Talking. Let The Music Do The Talking."
The next track, "Conflict of Interest is a good loud song with excellent lyrics written and sung by Joe. It also has a great instrumental piece at the end. The next track, "Discount Dogs" is a song well done by Ralph. His vocals were perfect for the lyrics. His voice fits Joe's style perfectly. "Shooting Star" is another great tune sung by Joe and has a great rythem and great lyrics.
The instrumental "Break Song" is just a jam that the band did together. It has great guitar solos and drum beats. "The Mist Is Rising" written and sung by Joe is a little low-tone by is a slow rock/bluesy piece of work. The last track, "Life At A Glance" is a PURE MASTERPIECE written and sung by Joe and Ralph. Excellent guitar riffs and drum beats.
THIS ALBUM IS JOE PERRY ALL-TIME GREATEST EFFORT!! LET THE MUSIC DO THE TALKING IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL ALBUMS OF ALL TIME!!!
Good for Joe!!..........2002-07-21
Joe Perry stands on his own w/out Tyler's boys........2002-03-14
All the songs are great, "Rockin' train", "Conflict of interest" and "Discount dogs" are the standout tracks. Joe Perry's boys sound fresh and full of energy. This whole album has a great feel to it, and is a good example that Joe needs to pull out of Aerosmith every now and again to put out a quality effort without a bus load of songwriter's and Steven Tyler's shouting and screaming a 1000 times over a good guitar lick.

The Joe Perry Project has the Rock and Rolls again..........2003-01-01
The opener "East Coast, West Coast" written and sung by Farren is a great song to open a great album. The song is very catchy and fast tone. "In the east coast, in the west coast. Trough the middle of the city. In the north shore, in the south shore. Through the middle of the commonwealth I will be rockin' for you. I will be rockin' for you. I will be rock and a rollin' for you." The song has a great guitar solo by Joe and great ryhtem riffs by Farren, Hull and Stewart. The title track, "I've Got The Rock and Rolls Again" is a generally good solid tune. It starts out with a bluesy guitar solo and then Charlie kicks in with the lead vocals and then a fast drum beat by Stewart.
As a special addition, David Hull (Bass) also sings two songs on the album, "Buzz Buzz", and "Dirty Little Things". The first of his two tracks, "Buzz Buzz" is AN AWSOME TUNE! Really cool guitar riffs and drum beats. Real catchy lyrics. Hull did a great job on this song. It's a masterpiece. His other track, "Dirty Little Things" is another great tune. A decent riff and beat. His first track "Buzz Buzz" is way better.
The last two closers, "Play The Game" and "South Station Blues" are excellent. The first one "Play The Game" is low-tone and a somewhat slow rocker. It's a pretty good piece of work. Last but not least, "South Station Blues," Joe's masterpiece. This song is undoubtedly one of his greatest songs. He did lead vocals and put some of his all-time greatest riffs. The song starts out with a acoustic bass guitar solo and then the music kicks in after Joe starts singing with his excellent voice.
This album is Joe's greatest solo album along with "Let The Music Do The Talking." The lead singer change on the first album of Ralph Morman to Charlie Farren on the second album was great (even though Morman did good). This is a MASTERPIECE! Get into the Rock and Rolls again and buy this album.
ROCKS.......2002-07-21
Raw, Rude, Rowdy and Rockin'!.......2002-05-05
While "Let The Music Do The Talking" was a nice beginning, this album was undoubtedly the peak of the three JPP releases and it is great headphone fodder. If you want to rock out and release some stress, play this CD loud! I was fortunate enough to see the JPP live at the Agora Ballroom in Youngstown, Ohio while in college and I can vouch for the energy the band had on stage.
My personal favorite cuts are "East Coast,West Coast","..Arrogance","Buzz Buzz","Dirty Little Things","Play the Game" and the title cut. This album is far from uneven as a previous reviewer stated, it is solid, exhausting and a great listen. Joe, feel free to stray into a solo project again sometime...the world needs another true rock album of this calibur.

Joe Perry Rocks!.......2006-01-01
As an avid Aerosmith fan, I have always been intrigued by Joe's strong guitar contributions on their albums. He does NOT fail to deliver on this CD.
Some have stated he is no Steven Tyler. To that comment, one should think: Great! Both performers are terrific for what they do best. If I want the Steven Tyler sound, I have a library full of Aerosmith CDs to satisfy that want. If I want to listen to wall-shaking guitar flavored with gentle vocals, I now have a CD that satifies that want as well.
You can expect wonderfully mastered chords that are not overshadowed by Joe's voice, but rather accompanied by it in memorable choruses and main lyrical exposition.
The best way to listen to this CD is in a quiet room with nothing else on your mind. Only then can your imagination take you to the place that Joe wants you to go.

The Project's Last Experiment..........2005-02-27
One of the highlights of this album are Mach Bell's vocals. His voice sounds very similar to the early days of Motley Crue's Vince Neil on many occassions throughout the album. Going to the songs, there are about four songs out the ten that are absolute classics.
The opening title track, "Once A Rocker, Always A Rocker" is a short (just under 3 minutes) rock and roller. The lyrics are well written and Joe's guitar riffs are very bluesy and R&B based. The chorus is also semi-catchy. The next track, the album's best is, "Black Velvet Pants." The intro to this song is outstanding with Joe's guitar solo. The overall sound of this song leans mainly towards Country-Rock with powerful lyrics and a great riffs while the song moves at a country-western style pace. The story behind the music video for this song is that the model for video was Billy Montgomery, Joe Perry's wife-to-be a couple years later and who is still married to today. The next track, "Women In Chains" is an excellent song. The intro is the sound of rattling chains. Some of Bell's greatest vocals performances are resembled on this song. The lyrics are about how women are sometimes mistreated, unrespected or ignored. This is slow rocker and is a semi-ballad. This song is a high point of the album. Jumping to track nine, "Walk With Me Sally" is the album's second highest point next to "Black Velvet Pants." The song moves at a very fast pace and is excellently performed. Throughout the song there is an instrumental break where Bell continues with the lyrics at a fast pace and then the band begins to speed back in to carry on with the chorus. This song resembles some of Joe's best riffs throughout the album.
Overall, the album is good in general and those four tracks mentioned in this review are the highpoints that make the album the most noticable. I think Bell's vocals were very good all around but he ranks just under 1980s "Let the Music Do the Talkin" lead vocalist Ralph Mormon. For those of you that are looking to finish your Joe Perry collection, buy this album and you will like it. This complete's the Project! The Joe Perry Project gets an A+ for the strong effort and determination.
A Great Album! Worth Buying!:).......2003-08-03
