He's tried his hand at indie-rock, big-band swing, and brash pop music. So where does Robbie Williams' fifth album take the popular British entertainer? Escapology is a a serious attempt to make music that's equally artistically credible and commercially accessible. Williams has matured into an adult-orientated rock/pop performer. Indeed, tead single, "Feel," wouldn't sound misplaced when played along with Phil Collins and David Gray; the singer's heartfelt vocals elevate it above routine radio fare. The highlight here is the epic ballad "Love Somebody," as Williams pushes his voice to its limits atop a lush backdrop of brooding strings and a gospel choir. The heavier rock numbers are impressively produced. However, while they feel like attempts to pay homage to Oasis, they wind up sound more like Toploader. Williams continues to harp on about what a hard time he has being a pop star ("How Peculiar," "Something Beautiful"). To fit his newfound maturity, there is less self parody in the lyrics, although his sense of humor shines though on "Handsome Man" and "Me & My Monkey." Escapology also features the first track written entirely by Williams--"Nan's Song"--is a simple, moving tribute to his late grandmother. --David Trueman

It may be an overstatement to suggest that Escapology gives us Brit singer-songwriter Robbie Williams in his pensive phase. But there's no doubt that the tone of the album is less mercurial and irreverent than the Williams of old. That's not a bad thing--the anti-celebrity sentiments expressed in "Monsoon" are commendable for their frankness. When Williams sings, "I'm here to make money and get laid/ Yeah, I'm a star but I'll fade," you get the sense he's been doing more in L.A. than chasing tail around the Standard Hotel. Williams is positively pessimistic in the should-we-or-shouldn't-we-break-up song "Sexed Up" and the heavy hearted "Love Somebody." The winding, storybook saga of "Me and My Monkey"--with its myriad pop culture references and dreamscape imagery--cries out for video treatment, as directed by Gus Van Sant. Elsewhere, the cheekiness of old appears in the L.A. anthem "Hot Fudge." Still, even when he's lyrically downcast, Williams's heavily manicured pop-rock draws stealth from orchestration and outstanding playing all around. Could this be bad-boy Williams all grown up? Only his therapist knows for sure. --Kim HughesAlbum Description

One of the Greatest Albums Ever Made.......2005-10-14
This has to be one of the best albums ever made by any singer. The lyrics are put together very, very well. Most of the songs are autobiographical which is rare to find in this day and age. The music is performed by some of the best musicians ever. Listen to the pianist on 'Feel' and you will see what I mean.
Overall, an excellent album and I recommend everyone listen to it more than once.
And a song about a monkey?? Talk about hilarious!!!
Not one of his best.......2003-12-29
Excellent.......2003-10-14
Wake Up America!!! Long live Robbie WIlliams!.......2003-10-08
Oh my dear he really can sing!.......2003-07-13
1. How peculiar 4/5 - Pretty good song with funny lyrics and wierd sound effects
2. Feel 5/5 - The 1st single with awesome lyrics and slow passionate rhythm
3. Something beautiful 5/5 - The 3rd single with fantastic light tempo and lyrics which will definitely cheer you up
4. Monsoon 4.5/5 - At first I couldn't get it but then I understood what it's all about... contains a part where he starts embarassing the grouppies.
5. Sexed up 5/5 - My second favourite song, reminds me with one of my previous relationships
6. Love somebody 5/5 - It gives me a feeling as if it was a remake but it can't be; quite good song wherein Robbie shows us what he's got / I mean his vocals :-) /
7. Revolution 4/5 - I haven't listened too much to this one, but the one who sings it with has a cool voice
8. Handsome man 6/5 - My absolute favourite not only beacuse it's perfectly done musically but as if this one had been written about my best friend.
9. Come Undone 5/5 - The remake of Duran-Duran's original though Robbie's better; oh, it's the 2nd single
10. Me and my monkey 4.5/5 - A fantastic song with very alternative lyrics though it becomes a lil' boring after 5 minutes
11. Song 4/5 - I don't know much about it...it must be good
12. Hot fudge 5/5 - I love this one!!! Has the tempo, the lyrics and EVERYTHING!
13. Cursed 4.5/5 - An okhay song with good backup
14. Nan's song 4/5 - Too short however it has very meaningful lyrics
I hope I helped you!
