Silky and Soulful.......2007-06-12

great sound...great voice...smooth and mellow...but not TOOO mellow. daryl hall knows how to deliver. a simple but sophisticated collection. heard "cab driver" on the radio and thought it was a new song....then found this cd and Soul Alone...don't know how i missed them..but glad i found em...they are already "regulars" on my play list.

I was a freshman in college when Hall & Oates began to make an impression on the music scene back in the '70s. So, for the next fifteen years I was a big fan of their "blue-eyed soul" music. Unfortunately for them the '90s didn't bode well for that particular genre of music. But guess what? What's old is new in the new millenium, and Darryl Hall (minus John Oates) kicks mega-a** on this CD. This is without a doubt the "best" effort Darryl Hall has put forth in twenty years!!! Do yourself a favor and purchase Can't Stop Dreaming immediately. And for all of us who remember AWB, Alan Gorrie collaborated on this CD and his influence really works for Darryl Hall,

Great solo album.......2007-04-10

This is an excellent solo album done by darryl hall. I am only familiar with the songs that were hits in the 80's so this is so refreshing to hear. Very easy listening.

Daryl Hall's music and ever evolving kind of soul is like those gool ol' wines: they get better as they age. Like many children of the 80's my first memory of Hall & Oates goes straight back to their 1982 album "H20" (Maneater, Family Man...). From then on, Hall & Oates was simply an inherent part of the decade. But when I found out that one of my favorite songs ever ("Everytime you go away" performed by Paul Young) had been indeed composed by Daryl Hall, I began to explore his music in deep beyond the no. 1 hits. With pleasant results. I became a Hall & Oates fan and more specifically, a Daryl Hall fan. "Big Bam Boom" released in 1984 included one of the greatest songs ever written and one of my all time favorites "Some things are better left unsaid". Although the song did not caught much attention at the moment (in fact it only reached no. 18 on the Domestic U.S. charts) boy how it introduced the unique harmonics and true soulful mood that define the true richness of Daryl Hall's unparalelled type of music. It is so very pleasant to find out that 20 years later Daryl Hall is still faithful to his roots and can undoubtedly deliver superb music. With "Can't stop dreaming" Daryl's definitely showcases his very own "Philly Mood" in a mature, relaxed and at-ease sort of way. What a great musician and singer. "Can't stop dreaming" was originally released in JAPAN (!) in 1997 and 6 years later (2003) in the U.S. I bought the imported japanese CD back in 1998 and since then it is one of my all time favorites. All the songs are great (all of them, really)and they are all bound to be favorites though perhaps the moving ballad "Holding out for love" has a special place in my heart and of course, the new version of the all-time hit "She's gone" stands out for good. Daryl explores different styles with his everpresent underlying strong soul & R&B foundation and the whole product is incredibly easy to listen and enjoy. To all Daryl Hall fans out there, this CD is a must have.

Pleasantly Surprised.......2006-09-24

I was pleasantly surprised by this album. Hard to believe the album is as good as it is without the harmonies of John Oates....but I really enjoyed it. More smooth jazz than pop or rock, this is the best cd I've heard straight through in awhile.

Daryl Hall's 2nd Best Solo Album!.......2005-11-06

After "Soul Alone" it was always going to be tough to come up with another album to top it although this album does come close. A little more subdued and less cohesive although the sound quality is quite good. Unlike "Soul Alone" where most of the tracks are excellent, there are some fillers here and remakes of previous material like "She's Gone" and "Something About You" but there are a couple of strong tracks as well. My favourite is "Justify" although "Cab Driver" and "Fools Rush In" are quite strong as well. Overall a decent offering but not as good as "Soul Alone." As I got my copy as a gift from a friend, as good as this album is, I'm not sure if the hefty price tag justifies this purchase though to be very honest I probably wouldn't pay that much for this album myself.

BLUE-EYED SOUL MASTERPIECE!!!! BRAVO DARYL!!!.......2004-02-03

I can't stop playing this wonderous collection of hypnotic vocals which illustrate blue-eye soul singing at its very best!! Every song here is a total knock-out that will stir your emotions and satisfy your soul!!! You will know immediately from the flowing rhythm and loose vocal that goes all over the map with such ease in the opener "Can't Stop Dreaming" that this is going to be a completely extraordinary experience!! A soulful sax intro into "Let Me Be The One" leads you into a totally hypnotic smooth vocal by Daryl that comes from deep inside and you soon realize that this guy is comparable to the greatness of a Marvin Gaye yet has not been given his due!!! "Something About You" is a soothing love song that is soft and tender with great guitar work complimenting Daryl's vocal. Get ready for the ride of your life in "Cab Driver" which is dark and jazzy and simply a classic!! Daryl's voice will blow you away in this one as it will in the driving rhythm number "Never Let Me Go". Daryl's voice in "Holding Out For Love" is at it most gorgeous and this is a soul-deep performance!!! To think that Daryl also wrote all of these classic's in addition to having such a great voice makes this great set even more amazing and incredible that "Grammy" is not connected to this solid classic!! HELLO GRAMMY-Are you in outer space???? "Justify" flows and is catchy and "What's In Your World" is another gut-wrenching and deeply soulful song that would be Top 40 smash if given release on a single!!! Classic guitar work embellishes another beautiful vocal from Daryl in the haunting "Hold On To Me" and "She's Gone" is the definitive version of this already established classic!!! Next is the breezy "All By Myself" that makes me happy for the convenience of the repeat button because this great song is so infectious that once you get into this classic you will not be able to get enought of it!!!!! Closing is the masterful "Fools Rush In" which will spin you out into orbit and make you want to come back for more it's that hot and cooking!! This is a great album that has never been topped or matched by any male singer/songwriter so get it and experience the best!!!

Without a DOUBT, this should be one cd that is in every music lovers collection. It has a VERY sensual sound to it, great universal lyrics, wonderful music, I CANNOT recommend this cd enough! I would give it more than 5 stars if I could! I especially love "All By Myself", "Can't Stop Dreaming", "What's In Your World", and "Cab Driver". THIS CD IS A WINNER!!!!

This is worth the price............2003-04-24

I bought this cd about 4 months ago - thought the price was steep - but was so happy I bought it. Daryl has never sounded better - these songs really showcase his voice and what his range is. If you like the new one "Do It For Love" then you'll love this....also be sure to get "Phunk Shui" which is John Oate's solo project - it is worth the price as well. John is more than just a back up singer.

Both can stand on their own or do the job as the best selling duo ever!

You won't be disappointed by this album....

Can't Stop Dreaming is a treasure waiting to be found. I first got a copy from a friend in 1997. I still listen to this great work of art. This is Daryl at his purest most soulful best. He is truly the most underrated artist in our generation. So far this piece of work is the greatest piece not released to the world.

I love lots of different music: Classic Jazz, Classic Blues, Classic Country, Lots of Rock. Bobby Darin, Frank,Ella, Doris Day,Hank Sr.,Jimmy Rodgers,Jimmy Rogers,Jimmie Reed, Stones, Dylan, Beatles etc.

Alex Pangman is just SUPERB!! Would love to see her perform in Maine!What a treasure!!

This music is mostly hot swing combo sides, however thier are a few western swing combo sides too. Pangman has a lilting and appealing voice, and her style is that of a Annette Hanshaw meets Bea Wain style singer. A great cd that shoudl be enjoyed by fans of authentic 1930's fans of ot swing and western combo swing, great cd.

This is a perfectly done and faultless cd. Miss Pangman has listened to Annetet Hanshaw's records as well as the neglected Frances Williams' records obviously, for she's taken a bit from both of them and blended it with her unique and appealing voice.

She covers Frances Willism' It's Unanimous as well as forgotten tunes liek Chick Bullocks "You Can't Stop Me From dreaming":.

Miss Pangman is backed up by a tight combo, featuring Canada's greatest trad musician, seccesfully recreating 20's hot jazz and western swing!

We heard Alex at the Montreal Jazz fest and were just knocked out by her flare with this music. Her voice was great and her love for the music showed in her fantastic performance. We love both CDs! I'm sure great things are in store for this vibrant, sassy singer. Her music is as red hot as her hair.
