When The Fleshtones first appeared on the New York City scene in 1976 they were a decidedly retro outfit, celebrating the glorious abandon of sixties garage bands. With the passage of time they've become a tradition unto themselves. Sixteen albums, periods of furious activity and the occasional hiatus, and they're still at it. After trying various contemporary production approaches, their 2003 album Do You Swing? was a return to form, and now Beachhead continues to find them on a roll. The band's strength is their ability to avoid sounding like a museum piece, writing songs that would could have thrived forty years ago, but which are right at home now. The ascendancy of the White Stripes and The Strokes has helped shine a well deserved light on The Fleshtones untainted rocking bravado. --David Greenberger

5 out of 5 stars This is a great recording.......2006-12-10

This recording is immediately accessable. Fun songs, great hooks, cool atmosphere throughout. Upon buying this CD I listened to the entire recording twice in a row (which is rare for me.) Once was not enough!

5 out of 5 stars Beachhead is worth it!!!.......2005-09-22

Being a Fleshtones fan forever, I will say that this CD takes me back to Hexbreaker Fleshtone energy. This is a must have for fans, and a cool fun CD for those who have not either a)heard them, b) seen them. Their live shows are a must see-match the album, must see-must have! Don't even think twice, this one's great!!!!

5 out of 5 stars The worlds best rock band are back - better than ever!.......2005-08-09

Normally, when band members are getting older, their music tends to get more "mature", slower and pretentious. But never The Fleshtones! They know that they still can put on the most entertaining show in the world - with the attitude that "this show may be the last, so we'll give all we've got". Sometimes over the years they haven't been able to transfer all their energy into the recording studio. But, listen to this - it may be their best record yet!
Just like their earlier classic, Roman Gods and Hexbreaker (and later masterpieces Powerstance and Do You Swing?), Beachhead gives you a bunch of superb songs, filled with straightforward energy and catching melodies. And, the production are very clear and direct.
It's sad to see that less talented imitators, like The Strokes or The Hives, manage to reach high in the charts, when The Fleshtones still are considered a cult band. But, with Beachhead they show us that they are not afraid of competition - they are still the kings of real rock'n'roll!
You gotta buy this - and your parties will never be the same again!
