This double-disc firestorm was the first official live release from Vermont's favorite jam band, and it is both a roaring celebration of and, in many ways, a fitting conclusion to Phish's first decade of genre-bending, head-popping rock. Recorded in 1994, A Live One finds Phish wringing everything they can out of every song (four clock in at more than 10 minutes, another at more than 20, and a sixth, "Tweezer," at more than 30), whipping themselves (and the audience) into a frenzy with a high-octane attack long on instrumental pyrotechnics and short on subtlety. By 1996 they had taken this no-holds-barred approach as far as they could, and they would begin to temper their frenetic energy with a mellower, airier, and funkier approach. But this collection remains a vital snapshot of the band at its initial peak, a time when no studio could have hoped to capture the densely packed Phish experience. --Marc Greilsamer

One Wild Night? Well, that's not strictly true, as this live album was recorded at Bon Jovi concerts spanning three decades. But why be pedantic when the result is a live album that effectively doubles as a greatest-hits collection? Bon Jovi's songs are tailor-made for stadiums and arenas, and, from classic fist-in-the-air rockers ("Livin' on a Prayer," "Bad Medicine," "You Give Love a Bad Name," "Runaway") to lighters-in-the-air numbers ("Keep the Faith," "Wanted Dead or Alive," "Something to Believe In"), the choices are suitably larger than life. The career-reviving single "It's My Life" sounds right at home, as do great covers of Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World" (recorded, appropriately enough, in Johannesburg in 1995) and the Boomtown Rats' "I Don't Like Mondays" (performed with Sir Bob Geldof). --Robert BurrowCustomer Reviews:

Got to love the Clark Sisters and their legacy.
Warning:The CD does have it technical issues like Karen's 'It's Not Over' because you can tell the difference between studio and LIVE...Overall great buy!

The Clark Sisters CD is breath taking !!!.......2007-05-31
I was nonchalantly listening and then the song "Instrument" came on then everything stopped and up went the praise. And if that was not enough, the following song "You Heard Me Cry" just floored me.
The whole album is well put together with the old and the new. The sisters take turns taking the lead on specific songs which really accentuates how talented each sister really is. "One Last Time" (Live)should be a CD that you will play for years to come.
If you have never really listened to the Clark Sisters before I would advise you to listen to the samples and then order/buy it immediately. You'll be glad you did!

Album Description
Quite simply, Australian guitarist Tommy Emmanuel will go down in history as one of the world's greatest guitarists - ever! LiveOne is a document of an extraordinary and unique talent - a rare instrumental album that transcends genre or age. It is pure entertainment, pure music. He is a CGP (certified Guitar Player) awarded rarely by his long time mentor, Chet Atkins. LiveOne is 100 minutes exploring a wide and seeming endless repertoire - tender ballads, classic country picking, humorous anecdotes, old favorites, right through to blistering runs and mind boggling technique.Customer Reviews:

Simply Amazing.......2006-12-11
I found the musicality to be first rate, yet the mixdown suffered from what I assume was less than ideal recording environment. Tommy plays through a small stage setup with his eq/reverb being pretty much self-contained, and this recording sounds like they got the house mix rather than a more suitable master.
Not to worry, you'll enjoy every minute of it. That's why I gave it 5 stars.

A Mature Sam Cooke.......2007-07-26
An Unforgettable Live Album.......2007-04-17
Some favourite, well-loved songs (such as "Cupid," "Chain Gang," "Bring it on Home to Me," etc.) have been thumpingly and effectively re-worked to give them an edginess which causes the temperature to soar in that highly charged, festive atmosphere.
You can feel the electricity in the air! Sam teases and cajoles an attentive and adoring audience who eagerly comply with the call to party. The tempo intensifies and reaches a crescendo at the end of a totally exhilarating and riveting musical experience!
One of the greatest live performances.......2007-01-12
The way Sam Cooke works the crowd is a thing of beauty. Those people that attended this performance are some lucky folks. He gives it his all and the crowd appreciates it. My personal favorite was "Chain Gang" because of the way he works the crowd at the end and because his voice is just electrifying with his "oh yeah" screams. Sam Cooke may not be my favorite artist but I believe he's the greatest artist of all-time. This record is one of the many testaments of that.
ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS EVER!.......2006-11-21
Of course, my favorite is "Bring It On Home To Me." Sam delivers his music with all the fervor of a gospel sermon and beat of a pop/doo wop song. Then, there are also the usual hits, from "Cupid" to "Twistin' The Night Away."
If you're looking for a soul album to start a collection, this IS the ONE!!! It'll keep you moving!!! The sound is no longer mono, making it all the more enjoyable. The fact that Sam could get the place jumpin' is exactly why he was such a great entertainer. You can feel the high energy and the fun of that evening back in 1963 oozing out of the stereo every time you listen to this album. James Brown may be the Godfather of soul, but Sam Cooke is the father!!!
should get more than 5 stars!.......2006-08-19
The main reason that it is great is b/c Sam Cooke works the audience. The cd builds up steam as the songs go by. This is a snowball rolling down a hill that gets bigger and bigger.
He talks to the audience, works the ladies, entices the men, pumps up his band, etc. The songs are almost a "best of" situation. Chain gang, having a party, twisting are all awesome!
You know how great the cd is? The recording has serious limitations. There are no highs and no lows. Horns, guitar, bass, drums are all mixed way towards the back but Cooke's singing and talking are way towards the front. It does not matter and should not influence anyone's listening pleasure.
A great comparison is to Otis Redding live at the Whiskey a Go Go. That is a good concert, fantastic sound recording and the band seriously rocks. This blows that away.
This is not only the best concert cd but also, it is obvious how other entertainers and djs modeled themselves afer Sam Cooke's style.
What a shame that this tremendous performer died in his prime.
Whoever reads this take note...I am no soul music fanatic. I am a Lez Zep. Who, Nirvana, guitarnut type of guy. THAT is how powerful that this work is b/c it most definetly rocks more than "live at leeds", "get your ya yas out", "Song remains the same", etc.

Dismissed by some as the redneck Led Zeppelin, yet beloved by a faithful and grassroots following for just that reason, Lynyrd Skynyrd sailed above it all--even the dark tragedy that befell them less than a year after this landmark live set was recorded in Atlanta. A triple-platinum perennial in its classic-rock heyday, this 25th anniversary edition has been digitally restored and authentically remixed on vintage '70s equipment to great effect. The band's performances have also been resequenced to their original running order to accurately recreate the Skynyrd '70s live experience.Even Allen Collins's later-overdubbed intro to their ubiquitous epic "Free Bird" has been restored with the original. Cameron Crowe's original notes are also here, long before Almost Famous, and he insightfully puts the album in its proper historical perspective. But the real premium here is the almost full disc of bonus cuts, including previously unreleased versions of "Simple Man," "Gimme Back My Bullets," "Workin' for MCA," "I Ain't the One," "Searching," and other alternate versions recorded during the Atlanta stand ("Gimme Three Steps," "Call Me the Breeze," "Sweet Home Alabama," "Crossroads," "Free Bird"), but until now scattered elsewhere in the Skynyrd catalog. --Jerry McCulley

Allmans apples, Skynyrd oranges.......2007-06-07
I could partake in the Allman v. Skynyrd argument for eternity. I'm a Sourthern musician myself, and I think there's room for both bands and both albums (as well as many of their other works) in any collection.
I find it intriguing that the aforementioned Skynyrd ripper listed later Black Crowes and Widespread Panic albums as better than Skynyrd live; the "Allman wannabe" label is a much better fit for those latter-day jam bands. All the guitar players I've ever known (including Al Kooper, who I don't know but who I respect the hell out of, considering his pedigree) thought the Skynyrd axe men were very progressive for their day.
The Allman-Skynyrd comparison is apt only from 10,000 feet. Yes, they came from the same area, and many of the influences were similar. But Skynyrd followed the more modern English blues-rock paradigm (see: Cream, Free), and they were more of a pop-song-type band (in the gunslinging, Allmans tradition, of course).
I would even venture to say that Skynyrd followed in the Allmans' footsteps. Indeed, Brother Duane is up there with Hendrix, methinks, and I find the Allmans' work during his lifetime unimpeachable and some of the best modern music ever made.
It gets iffy for both bands after their key members passed. Skynyrd was poised to become even bigger and better with the addition of Steve Gaines -- listen to the guitar work on "Street Survivors." And Ronnie Van Zant knew what the hell he was doing. Meanwhile, everyone knows what happened to Greg and Co. after Duane's untimely death. (I think I sense a pattern here.)
I saw both bands in the space of a year in '75-'76 (including all 3 nights at Fox for Skynyrd), and there was no comparison at that point. Allman biographer Scott Freeman considers that '75 Allman tour to be the band's nadir, and the Skynyrd boys were going for the gold about 9 months later.
I don't think any other Southern band has come close since then. . .
Great Live Album!.......2007-03-19
Capturing the essence.......2007-03-08
Buy This CD!.......2007-02-02
This album throws you back in the seat from the moment you drop the needle in the groove. I've worn out vinyl copies, thrown many 8 track copies out the window of my car, more vinyl and cassette and have the original release of this on CD (that sucks) and now this. If you are going to buy only one Skynyrd album, make it this one. They never put on a bad show!! Not even the lineup that is playing today!! They can still smoke any band right off the stage!!

This is one U got to own if you love prince.......2007-07-22
Prince is just plain Prince........2006-08-09
I swear to you, this box set is sorta the same old thing you can expect from this man. I paid $50.00 for this and got three CD's worth of music (some great, some so-so and some just overly long stuff) You mostly pay $25.00 for the music and $ 25.00 for the box itself with the booklet inside! I almost feel the rube but I am willing to give this a second chance. So far, not so pleased though:
Prince is a brilliant genius. What can you say he loves to jam. And in one of the CD's "It AINT over", there the man is playing "Girls & Boys". Which come to think of it is almost 8 minutes of him & his band and the only reason this is considered "Girls & Boys" is because the chant of "I love you baby, I love you so much" is said by the audience at the beginning of the song! How is that "Girls & Boys??!?? I love that song, but with no Eric Leeds onstage with him, that song is NEVER to be played! The same treatment is given to "Peach" ANOTHER great song which leaves U thinking "What the hell..?" Prince obviously dances to the beat of his own drummer. Lol And so it goes on.
The second CD has alot of Prince just doing his regular "slow jams" melodies and I swear you will think because you see on the CD listing for "Diamonds & Pearls" and "Do me Baby" but get ready for just 20 seconds of each song (thus, that is considered long enough for a track listing (???)) Then get ready to hear yet another over-long rendition of "Nothing Compares 2 U" and "Anna Stesia". I swear, why does he love "Nothing.." so much? It was never a hit for him! It's his song so whatever...("Adore", "The Beautiful 1's", "Take me with U" and "Raspberry Beret" are given good treatments, but "Diamonds & Pearls", "Free", "Do me Baby" and "Starfish & Coffee" are given the bum-rush jobs)
Obviously, as always the man wants people to know his newer material "Muse 2 the Pharoah", "1+1+1 is 3", "Everlasting Now", "Avalanche" et al are all mostly played their entire length. That's fine, but don't be SO impatient to run through your catalogue so fast that certain songs (new or old) suffer from BEING TOO SHORT!!!!! He USED to take his time with his songs when the concerts were simpler (think Controversy tour 1981), when "Purple Rain" hit, the concerts became more rushed in my opinion.
Save the $50. This set has bad false advertising, plus it's from a period of time where Prince's "Hero" Larry Graham got too much stage time. (I thought Sonny T was Prince's hero???)

As far as coherent live Phish albums go, this one is a great representation of the band in their prime.......2006-10-02
Composition wise, Phish are strong artists that know how to extend and improv on their footholds and craft great wandering experiences, and "A Live one" captures just that.
Featuring two discs filled to the brim with jams galore, the listener will not be disappointed, even the sound quality is top notch.
However, my love for Phish waned as of late, and I grew tired of their typical and predictive jam directions. Each rendition of their songs became so monotonous and predictable that I couldn't take it anymore.
Maybe I am the only one, but this music is really for the drugged out, or those that absolutely LOVE Phish and long-winded jam-band music. For this music lover, the all too often long winded jams and abstract random music can get annoying.
I personally feel that Phish was more of a fad band than anything. The creative aspect of this band seems to be at best a novelty and seems to die out after much repeated listens, even their later albums fall short of pleasing.
Still, "A Live one" is a great portrayal of a once great band in their prime.

They say this CD was recorded between 2001 and 2004 "at home and on tour, in bedrooms, hotels, moving vehicles, parking garages...." But despite its name, this isn't an album of sketches, lost tracks, and other detritus. Instead, Artifact is a haunting document of ambient designs, trippy lounge, and cinematic atmospheres that occupy STS9's first new CD in five years. The "home" recordings are actually verité vignettes providing connecting tissue for songs like "Better Day," a haunting lament with breathy guest vocals from Audio Angel (Rashida Clendening), and the space-age lounge music of "Somesing." A band that plays as much as it programs, STS9's compositions have a natural flow and integrity, as if they were grown as much as computed. "Tokyo" is a hypnotic jam of slide guitar and electronic atmospheres lashed together on a kinetic groove sliced by dream sequence logic. Imagine the Grateful Dead going glitch on Miles Davis's Bitches Brew and you have a good sense of STS9's sound and why they've played events from the alternative festival Coachella to jam-band gatherings like Bonaroo. Artifact doesn't look back, but forward to a horizon still a few moments in the future. --John DilibertoCustomer Reviews:

Rather than songs engineered by those with a technological approach, musicianship plays the key role on this warm and intellectual electronica. Supposedly, STS9 are wonderful on stage (I admit to never having seen them live) but this review is based on the album in question and not on the group's direction or capabilities beyond the studio. A truly refreshing and lyrical album, `Artifact' is worthy of investigation.

Expert musicianship, a diverse repertoire, and an active sense of humor become an explosive mixture in the hands of the Airmen. Recorded during a 1976 tour of England, Live One shows the genre-twisting band in all its maniacal glory. Western swing standards, rockabilly romps, R&B chestnuts, and a rash of truck-driving songs all find their way into the potent blend, not to mention their offbeat, drug-addled originals. Bill Kirchen's nifty guitar work, Andy Stein's punchy fiddle, and Bobby Black's pedal-steel forays provide the meat: no matter how goofy it gets, their formidable musical chops keep it all together. --Marc GreilsamerCustomer Reviews:
