Christine McVie, Fleetwood Mac's cool as an oyster chanteuse--ying to Stevie Nick's quirky yang--decided to pass on Mac's latest reunion efforts, prompting her former bandmates to insist that the icy blonde was fed up with the music business, and planned to retreat to her country home. But it seems that McVie was only fed up with her former compatriots, and stealthily recorded In the Meantime, her first solo album in two decades rather than participate in reconfiguring the seventies pop monolith. And just so we know she means business, she not-so-cryptically tackles the invitation from Mick, Stevie, Lindsay and John on the anxious and vituperrious "Bad Journey," leaving no doubt in fan's minds that she's shut the door on her past for good. Meantime finds the formerly winsome musician newly empowered with claws fully extended--penning songs that crackle with ire and ennui without any of the frothy self-deception of the past, whether on the casual hit-or-miss sex of "Anything is Possible" or the chilly kiss-off of "Sweet Revenge." --Jaan Uhelszki

Music That Tells the Story is the companion to spiritual guru Iyanla Vanzant's self-help bestseller of the same name and incorporates the principles laid out in the book. Blending spiritual wisdom with common sense, the author tells us how to come out of the "basement" and live vibrantly even while we're waiting to manifest our wildest dreams of love and connectedness. Vanzant calls this "the meantime"--a place one will revisit periodically through life's unfolding. Interspersing smooth inspirational R&B tunes with bits of juicy text read by the author, the disc espouses nuggets such as "Love doesn't hurt; falling into the traps we set for love makes us hurt ourselves." The songs, some cowritten and performed by Vanzant, are both old and new, and are sung by a group of artists including Kelly Price, Yolanda Adams, and Faith Evans. Successful in its mission, the recording is affirmation for a life fully lived in the absence of perfection. --Paige La Grone

5 Stars is not NEARLY enough to rate this magnificant cd. It's not just music but its spiritual and mental awakening at its very BEST. Each and Every Song on this CD is BEAUTIFUL and MEANINGFUL... at the least! And the interludes frmo Ms. Iyanla Vanzant are too valuable to put into words.... Anyone who knows hurt, anyone who knows confusion, anyone who knows pain and anyone who KNOWS they want Peace will find total joy in owning this disk. If you listen, you will be heard... meaning, if you listen to what she says, your inner most self will be heard... she touches a part of you that you neglect in so many ways... it's just wonderful... I heard this cd probably back when it first came out and I have been in love with it ever since... In fact, passing it along to my Mother, my best friend, and recommending it to anyone I feel would truly gain something from this remarkable delivery... I would recommend this cd to anyone who is trying to get thru life with their head up and their heart open... In these days, it's hard to live with an open heart because there is so much pain evolving but for anyone who wants some spirtual feeding, This is a full course.

This CD is great. You have to truly "listen" to it to realize it is so true. Every emotion and feeling is true....
I LOVE THIS CD.

5 out of 5 stars INSPIRATION.......2005-05-11

This woman is so blessed. She has great music and beautiful lessons to think about and learn in each track. I listen to it everyday. I especially like number 10 with her and Yolanda Adams. It gives me strength when I listen to it. My whole family loves it!!!

For anyone struggling with relationships, this is the CD for you! Most of us have to be "told" when to take care of self! Play this CD as you are preparing to start your day, and I can assure you that your self-confidence will be more secure, your self-esteem will be raised and you will not allow any relationship, whether personal or professional to make you feel "less than." One of the best "self-help" lessons available.

4 out of 5 stars Better than rated by some.......2007-03-10

Regardless of Fleetwood Mac comparisons, I think this second solo by Ms. McVie is only slightly short of stellar . . . and I'm really quite picky about the music (especially the songwriting) I call really good. Most musicians/songwriters don't make the cut (my favorites are Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Lowell George and David Knopfler -- not quite so much older brother Mark, although I do agree he's quite good). My first listen to this album was enjoyable, my second was a smilefest. If you want to hear Fleetwood Mac, listen to Fleetwood Mac. Christine is still almost "Perfect" (her maiden name). Her voice is magic, the arrangements and production are first rate, and the songwriting is wonderful if not exactly legendary. Hard to expect much more. I rate this as a "must have" for any Christine fan.

4 out of 5 stars Great songwriting.......2007-01-17

Christine's new album, not unlike her solo album from the 80's has great songwriting...particularly the first five songs on the disk. Musically it is not very challenging...but if you like her voice and think that she is a GREAT songwriter, as I do, you NEED to get this album.

2 out of 5 stars Adios Perfection.......2006-12-10

Starting back in the days of Chicken Shack, I always longed for more of Christine. Her first solo album was wonderful (please remaster than gem), the second divine--the tour she mounted to support that effort resulted in a night of bliss for this listening. I was so glad when Fleetwood Mac efforts with CMc made it to cd, so I could program the discs to just play her songs.

And then there's this.

What a disappointment. My guess is that there's a lot more to her not joining the reformed Mac. This is such a poor effort. The songs are commercial in a way that her fine tuned songs that reached artistic or commerical success never had to stoop. Christine, there was a period when we loved you. This cd was a tough break up for me, but it's just time to tell myself it's time to move on. Adios.

3 out of 5 stars 3 Stars just for showing her face!.......2006-08-10

OK, I consider myself one of the consumate fans since the 70's and could get really critical here but I will show alittle respect and not be too harsh.

Yes, she sounds great.....no this is not her best songwriting ( ala "booze" ) and yes the comparisons to FM are unmistakable on a few tracks but unfortunately there are too many throw away tracks.

Friend, You Are, Northern Star & Giving It Back should have been on FM's 2003, SAY YOU WILL and we wouldn't be here leaving disapointing reviews.

Chris, come back to us

3 out of 5 stars Love Hate.......2006-02-22

A lifetime....

I have recordings of Christine's all the way back to Kiln House. I absolutely love them. I have even made my own compilations of only her songs for my personal enjoyment. So, it's not that there's just too much Christine here and that Stevie and Lindsey, John and Mick are missing. It just isn't an immensely enjoyable album to listen to. I would probably stop in my tracks to listen to every lyric of a single song from this if it popped in over the sound system while I was out shopping. But as a whole, to me, the album is too repetitive. As a huge fan, I can honestly say that she has given us decades of beautiful music and has certainly given more to the world than most of us reading/writing these reviews. Christine, despite what I feel about this album, when all is said and done, you deserve a lifetime acheivement award. That's how good CHRISTINE MCVIE is....

3 out of 5 stars Not The Party's best...but has some gems........2005-06-07

"In the Meantime, In Between Time" was released to tide fans over until The Party's "official" second album "Free" could be released. It kicks off with a bang, with a techno-infused cover of Dokken's "In My Dreams" which was The Party's biggest hit. Covers of "Private Affair," "I Know What Boys Like," "My Generation," and "Spiders and Snakes" also feature, with varying degrees of success, but their cover of "Peace, Love and Understanding" is their greatest track. They capture the songs feeling and it's message perfectly, bringing it squarely into the 1990s, and it still works today, more than ten years later. The rest of the album is basically remixes of tracks off their first album, and "Adult Decision" which was the B-Side of their "That's Why" single. While the originals are great tracks, the remixes are slightly less than thrilling. "Sugar is Sweet" loses it, erm, sweetness, and "Adult Decision" is just messy (the original was much better.) All in all, not a bad listen. I was crazy about this CD when it came out in 1991, but over time, I find myself more drawn to their other three releases, especially "The Party's Over...Thanks for Coming."

    4 out of 5 stars killer album.......2005-07-07

The accepted wisdom (at least amongst my friends) was that SNFU only has one good album. Although none of us could agree on which one that was. My vote was for "If you swear you'll catch no fish". But after seeing a recent show, I took a chance on their new ablum- and I say! It rocks. Intelligent distictive hooks do nothing to soften the hard thrash. I now have two favorite SNFU albums.

5 out of 5 stars THIS WHOLE ALBUM RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-11-08

With something like seven years since their last full length album (FYULABA), I was so relieved after I heard this album for the first time because it's SNFU and it's just as rad as all of their other albums. This is now one of my favorite and most played albums .............ever. This is a must have for any SNFU fan, infact anyone who is into punk should have this.

"This brand spanking new record is like taking a deep breath of pure oxygen. Danielle Tibedo and Cregan Montague are really onto something here. 'In the meantime...,' recorded live in one take, is a testament to what is and will become of this duo. "Tibedo and Montague, both owners of cats named Maggee (pronounced 'Maggie'), met a few years back in Boston. When they started playing music together their fate was sealed.=A0In 2002 they put out the 7-song-EP, 'Way back when...' In the here and now, however, they had songs boiling over, begging to be released: 'In the meantime...' "If this record is any indication of what's to come, then run, don't walk to your local record store to find it [but since you're here, just click to buy it now!] . 'In the meantime...' contains nine songs, and you'll love at least seven of them. All of them showcase the mountaintop highs and valley lows of Danielle Tibedo's voice, while she lays down impressive guitar work--both acoustic and electric. The violin and harmonies of Cregan Montague add another stratum, making for an almost indescribable sound. "'In the meantime...,' put out by the DM's own SingLove Productions, Inc. is distinctively magical.=A0It strikes a chord that will stop you in your tracks with a force all it's own." --Face Magazine, Nov. 5 out of 5 stars Divine Maggees - On the verge of acoustic greatness.......2004-02-09

These ladies are gracious, professional and a good show live. I had the great fortune of meeting these ladies and watching them perform live as well as previewing their cd. The Divine Maggees definitely touched a chord with the audience. Their eight song cd is seamless. My favorites are "Lift Me Up, Brother Song, War, Drown in You, and Black Fire Remedy." Danielle's powerful voice sends chills through your spine. Cregan's perfect harmonies add a subtle yet powerful touch to the mix. Their musicianship is a treat to witness, both on cd and live. These talents were a match made in heaven; guitar and fiddle. If you like Sarah McLachlan, Dolores O'Riordan and various other modern folk-rock sirens, then The Divine Maggees is a must-have album in your collection. You should not buy one, but several to give as gifts to friends and family. Talent is back en vogue.
