great cd.......2007-07-09
Yes, it's a little different. But give it a try........2007-06-07
1. Sometimes the lyrics are a bit redundant. He rhymes words like seen, needs, memoRIES, vacanCY.... it goes on and on like that the whole song. As a songwriter he should know that sort of makes the song sound like a nursery rhyme. Maybe that's the effect of having two kids.
2. This is petty but he frequently uses the word CRAVE randomly. Maybe it's just me but I do not think this is a good word for describing how you need Jesus!
Overall, it is a newer, lighter, cleaner Jeremy Camp and I appreciately his work. It is not the usually LOUD rocker we are used to (with the exception of track 11), but if you buy for no other reason, buy it for "Give Me Jesus". It's simple, but powerful stuff.

Their remake of "Killing Me Softly" was the hit, but that's only the beginning of the story. A hip-hop trio whose talents reach out into the world of the pop song (Wyclef Jean is a fine guitar player, and Lauryn Hill's a heck of a singer), the Fugees are also all distinctive, inventive rappers--you find yourself waiting for each of them to take the next verse in turn. The beats are the familiar crossed-armed boom-bip, but the group's understated grooves and subtle effects lie low in the mix. Aside from two kicky covers of classics (the other is Marley's "No Woman, No Cry"), The Score's focus is on the stars' rhyming with the free-form grace of performance poets and showing that they've thought deeply about the issues they raise. --Douglas WolkCustomer Reviews:

They Are All Stars.......2005-10-01
Smash Mouth's 2005 All Star Smash Hits, is a packaged collection of their biggest tracks from their era in the top 40. The collection actually delivers very well with remastering and compiling some of their best tracks including songs for movies like Clockstoppers, Mystery Men and Shrek. While some of those films died in vein, the music for those ill-fated flicks actually outlasted as great guilty pleasures 2 to 1. The collection includes great party songs like their first big hit, Walkin' On The Sun, their biggest hit All Star, the Neil Diamond cover of I'm A Believer, the quirky Then The Morning Comes, and Pacific Coast Party. While the album delivers well, it does overlook only one song, the tropical-styled You Are My Number One which was used in ads for Chrysler a couple of years ago.
Although it is just a shame many people don't seem to remember Smash Mouth as much anymore. Nevertheless, All Star Smash Hits is absolutely a must have for anybody who loves great guilty pleasure songs. They are still walkin' on the sun.

Who knew that pianist/composer Bruce Hornsby, the popsmith of the hit "The Way it Is" and the bluegrass collaborator with Ricky Skaggs, was a jazz sleeper agent since his college days? On this 11-track recording, Hornsby's "Bill Evans-meets-the-hymnbook" pianism is buoyed by Christian McBride's brotherly-loving bass lines and Jack DeJohnette's Big Easy/Windy City drumming. The leader easily digs deep into the Negroidal rhythmic gravity we call swing. Check out the light-speed lyricism he lays down on the previously unrecorded Ornette Coleman number "Questions and Answers," the drum 'n' bass rendition of Coltrane's "Giant Steps," and the Meters-motored take on Miles Davis's "Solar." Keith Jarrett's ballad "Death and a Flower" is played with reverence and restraint, and the downbeats on Thelonious Monk's "Straight, No Chaser" and Bud Powell's "Celia" and "Un Poco Loco" don't do injustice to their bebop roots. Hornsby keeps it rhythmically real, and he's given us a true sound of surprise. --Eugene Holley, Jr.

The Hollywood concept shorthand for Todd Graff's semi-autobiographical musical comedy may be Fame-meets-Meatballs, but the film (nominated for the Grand Jury prize at the '03 Sundance Film Festival) has an energetic musical heart all its own. The original songs of Michael Gore (the original Fame) and Lynn Ahrens (Schoolhouse Rock, the Broadway adaptation of Ragtime) revolve around poles of upbeat gospel fervor ("Here's Where I Stand," "How Shall I See You Through My Tears") and introspective ballads ("I Sing For You"), while the score's choice of covers initially echo those concerns via Todd Rundgren's "The Want of a Nail" and the Stones' "Wild Horses," respectively. But the teen-voiced covers of Sondheim's middle-age missive "The Ladies Who Lunch" and Bacharach/David's loopy "Turkey Lurkey Time" also underscore its youthful sense of anything-goes abandon. The pop songs that round out the collection are a well-chosen and emotionally sympatico lot, especially the Replacements' "Skyway", the Wonder Stuff's "The Size of a Cow" and even Warren Wiebe's weepy ballad "I Believe in Us." This enhanced CD features include behind the scenes footage, film trailer, cast photos, and bios. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
Fun!.......2007-03-30
I'd not ever heard the original verson of "Century Plant", and when I did I have to say that I liked the re-make in the film better.
Two different Sunday afternoons I found myself sitting glued to the TV because this movie was on. It's so easy for me to relate, and I remember feeling and thinking many of the things that the characters said and felt. While watching such an entertaining film I went back to my teen years and thought of working on the chorus productions and the drama club plays. Oh, the fun and teen angst that we all were dealing with, we didn't know what life was and how good we really had it! Oh, to be young again!
I'll be the first to say that if you're looking for something "meaty" or a movie that keeps you guessing and makes you think, then you really won't find it here. But if you've had a bad day (or week) and just need something to unwind and a film that won't make you think, but make you smile then you're in the right place! You'll find yourself tapping your toes and maybe even humming or singing along!
Rent it, buy it, either way you'll have a good time!

Martina's why I bought it.......2007-05-14
Why are so many "inspired by" recordings not truly inspired by the source material?.......2007-04-07
This is not to knock Music Inspired by the Motion Picture Amazing Grace. It's a fine collection of hymns by a variety of talented artists. It seems a shame though that only the song "Amazing Grace" performed by Chris Tomlin has any direct connection with the movie. John Newton, the author of the hymn, had a relationship with the key figure in the film, William Wilberforce.
Tomlin does what many of the artists do with these hymns, and a little more. In addition to a different arrangement, he takes the risk of adding some new verses to a classic song, and pulls it off admirably. Nichole Nordeman does the same with equally impressive results on "Just As I Am." Tomlin's subdued playing and instrumentation reinvents and adds a touch of grace to one of the most popular songs of all time.
Jeremy Camp's strong masculine voice is the perfect complement for music that thunders around the verses of "It Is Well." It's a strong performance augmented by the background vocals of his wife Adie.
This is one of several remarkable duets, the next featuring Shawn McDonald & Bethany Dillon on "All Creatures of Our God & King." It starts off with an ethereal vibe but the vocals get a little cluttered with the programming that ends the song. Another song that suffers from programming is "Fairest Lord Jesus" by Natalie Grant.
It's a challenge for artists to take such familiar songs and make them sound fresh. For the most part, these interpretations succeed in making these hymns sound new. The best results here are the songs that are acoustic and less complicated like the title song.
Another brilliant example is "Rock of Ages" by David Crowder & Marty Stuart. It begins and ends with a delightful acoustic instrumental that sounds like some wonderful Christmas recording. David Crowder continues to record impressive music.
The medley "My Jesus I Love Thee / `Tis So Sweet" by Bart Millard (of Mercy Me) starts and ends with the sounds of an accordion. The music is a relaxed blend of contemporary and pop sounds. Though the title of the song does not show this as a duet, the voice of Derek Webb is unmistakable. He is a great addition to one of the best songs on the recording.
A light country version of "How Great Thou Art" by Martina McBride is also excellent and closes the recording.
Two black gospel songs are included, but with orchestration and more production, they don't fit as well with the many songs that lean toward acoustic pop or rock. They are well done and they do add variety, but like the songs that make use of programming, they feel a little out of place.
This is a strong collection of hymns done in a contemporary style. It won't appeal as much to those who favor more traditional renderings.
Wimpy, wimpy, wimpy!.......2007-04-06
With the exception of the first and last tracks ("Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art"), I would have to say that the balance of the songs on this CD are limp and unenthusiastic....better to go right to iTunes or some other music download site and just get those two tracks!!
I think the CD was made with good intent, but unless you want something to fall asleep to, this album doesn't seem to reflect any of the joy or enthusiasm that I associate with Christian music or Christianity itself. Perhaps it was just that the songs were sung "quietly", but I did not find them to be infused with much in the way of "inspiration", and I got none from listening to them.......
Far better, I think, to go buy something like the soundtrack to the actual movie "Amazing Grace", which contains beautiful and atmospheric compositions, and which deserves to be nominated for an Academy award....
Another option would be to buy the soundrack to either of the "Sister Act" movies (in addition to my suggestion in the preceding paragraph), they are much more lively, joyful, celebratory and creative than this!
Any of those options will leave you more uplifted and inspired than this CD left me...I absolutely LOVED "Amazing Grace", and would strongly urge anyone looking for a GOOD movie to see the film that "inspired the music" on this CD.
Seeing the actual film will leave you feeling inspired and hopeful; that good men can still accomplish great things, no matter how many people are on the "other side" of what they are working against!!
[Hint: I understand that that WONDERFUL rendition of "Amazing Grace" with the bagpipes, drums and other instruments that plays at the end of the movie is available on iTunes as a "bonus track", and it is DEFINITELY NOT TO BE MISSED!!!]

Camp Lo is back! The Sonny Cheeba and Geechie Suede duo return with their highly anticipated album called "Black Hollywood", produced exclusively by the legendary Ski Beatz. Fans of Camp Lo's 1996 debut classic "Uptown Saturday Night" album will surely be satisfied by the group's return with an updated version of their infectious Bronx soul that the group is known for and their lyrics that consist partly of Blaxploitation-style Dadaist slang. Making their first appearance on "The Great White Hype" soundtrack, their smooth party song single "Coolie High" was a minor hit, peaking at #25 on the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart. The first major exposure came with the release of their second single, the upbeat and horn driven "Luchini aka This Is It." The song became a crossover hit in 1997, breaking into the top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100, and reaching the top 5 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. The duo released their debut album in January 1997. The effort was widely acclaimed, praised for their light accessible content and their smooth, funk and jazz inspired production. They went on to release a sophomore album called "Let's Do It Again" in 2002. Jump ahead to 2007 and be prepared for the arrival of a new Camp Lo, produced by the one and only Ski Beatz. Previously known just as Ski, Ski Beatz is best known for his work with Jay-Z on the album "Reasonable Doubt." He's also produced tracks for AZ, Lil' Kim, Fat Joe, Foxy Brown and of course he did almost the entire Camp Lo debut album "Uptown Saturday Night."Album Description

Return of the Lo.......2007-07-25
The Good: This album just rolls! None of the songs really sound the same, and Lo's flows are catchy as always. Chiba's rap style has picked up a lot of alliteration lately. On "Money Clap" he casually runs lines like, "I say Morning! Morning! Money! Money! Money! Give em Molotov cocktails for breakfast/Bunnies, Bunnies bouncing/Sin City citizen/I'm Count Mac-ula"
Suede takes control in the title track "Black Hollywood" which announces the return of the Lo with that 70s sound: "Black Ceasar bumblebee bonita a billion dollar theatre/ Lo premiering in surround sound cinematically glaring/ Click! Click! Flash! Flash! Frosted Flakes on the frames/ It's addictive, when you know the world is screaming your name".
The album kicks off strong with "Posse from the Bronx" and "82 Afros", and the 80s style beats on "Pushahoe" and "Zoom" are a nice throwback. Even the 90s have become a nostalgic sound on the dark storytelling track "Jack and Jill", which sounds like a beat from 92-93. Ganja Lounge could be one of the best songs advocating narcotics that I've heard in a few years. Sweet Claudine closes out the album with such a great feeling.
The Bad: The only weak tracks on the album are "Material" (obviously aimed at the ladies), and Soul Fever - but I know there will be a lot of people who really like this song. My problem with it is that it sounds like what Lo thinks the audience expects from them.
Overall the production of each song is strong, sometimes the beats sound a bit thin, but mostly dope. The problem is the Executive Production. There is some ham-fisted production on songs that seem to end suddenly with a quick fade out, or songs that appeared on the Fort Apache Mixtape have not been remixed so they still carry the beat of another song on the first two seconds. Some of the songs sound somewhat incomplete and the beat is left to ride without vocals, or they lack a proper chorus and many of them run under 3 minutes. The entire album is just under 36 minutes long which seems short considering fans have been starving for some new material from the Lo. That combined with the fact that 5 of the 12 songs on this album were on the Fort Apache mixtape, make this album slightly underwhelming for the fans who have kept up with their career. It also begs the question, what happened to the song "Ticket 4 Two" that we heard on Skibeatz Myspace page, and the 9th Wonder produced "Milky Lowa"? In interviews we had heard that the third album would be titled "A Piece of the Action", so it makes me wonder if this album was somehow rushed out so as to ree up for the next album.
In the future it would be nice to see Lo try to round out these short songs, perhaps with guest stars (Only Ski and Jungle Brown make guest appearances on the mic) or by adding another verse themselves.
Overall, I'm pleased with this album. It's consistently good throughout the whole thing. It can't outshine Uptown Saturday Night, but it does help Lo escape it's shadow and make some quality material. This album will be especially better for those of you who never heard the Fort Apache mixtape. The Lo has returned!
"P-P-P-P-Posse from the Bronx is HERE!" (3.5/5).......2007-07-25
The album's brief at 12 tracks, each averaging about two-and-a-half minutes (none even approach 4 minutes), altogether clocking in at about 35 minutes. But that aside, the album is structured pretty similarly to their debut. The production takes from a bygone era, and Ski's beats are creative and clever throughout. It's so much fun to hear Camp Lo rapping over great beats once again, and for the majority of the time, it really works. However, it's pretty clear that this just doesn't have the same energy as their debut. Geechie and Cheeba don't rap as fast or joyfully as they once did, and the level of creativity is also lower. A few tracks are dragged down by some pretty average subject matter, even though with their immense style it becomes bearable. With one or two exceptions, the album doesn't really recapture the magic of "Luchini aka This Is It," "Sparkle," or "Coolie High," but it's truly enjoyable anyway. The one-of-a-kind Camp Lo product is something I always really liked, and it's in full supply on "Black Hollywood."
The album starts with the upbeat "Posse From the Bronx," a head-nodding, bass-heavy opener. The hook is great and it's a nice start. "82 Afros" is a stylish, standard Camp Lo cut with the nostalgic slang and flair that is their signature. I really like "Soul Fever," a happy and fast song with another nice hook that really evokes the spirit of Uptown Saturday Night. "Pushahoe" is okay but a little uninspired, but "Suga Willie's Revenge" is better, with a nice flute-laden beat and the classic Camp Lo flavor. "Jack N' Jill" feels a little distant, but I really like the production even if the verses aren't the best. I feel the same about "Material," the lyrics are pretty run-of-the-mill but the nice production and style make it okay. "Money Clap" is alright but fairly forgettable, and the reggae-fueled "Ganja Lounge" is fun. The best song without a doubt is "Black Hollywood," the title track. The beat on this one is incredible, surely bringing back memories of "Luchini" with the majestic, rich, and upbeat horn lines. I love the way Cheeba and Suede bring chemistry and energy to this song, this is the soulful, nostalgic Camp Lo at their finest. The short "Zoom" feels a little low-key, and the album closes on a great note with "Sweet Claudine," one of its best songs, a sweetly soulful, string-laced joint.
As a low-profile indie release, I don't expect this album to find much press, but it's one of my most enjoyed albums of 2007. Uptown Saturday Night is an album I keep on very regular rotation even today, and "In Black Hollywood" did not disappoint. The majestic sound and fun style is here, even if there is some subpar material in between. There's a drought of great rap music right now, but this is so refreshing in 2007, just like their debut was ten years ago. Don't expect to be blown away by this album, it's not spectacular, but to longtime fans of Camp Lo, definitely consider adding "In Black Hollywood" to the collection.

Within the span of three releases, Jeremy Camp has quickly established himself as one of the powerful "voices" in Christian music. Since day one, Camp's powerful vocal presence has been enabled, in part, by his own strong songwriting and outstanding studio production. Restored follows along these lines offering a number of solid tracks that will no doubt continue to fuel Camp's ascension. The opening title track may be the strongest rocker on the release and a likely standout single with "Lay Down My Pride" a close second. The majority of the album features mid-tempo pop and softer ballads, casting a duller sonic pall over Camp's previous work. That's not to say this is unworthy of a good listen as "Take You Back," "Be The One," and "My Desire" are equally appealing. Ironically, Camp's best strength (powerhouse baritone voice) may be his biggest weakness on Restored. If there are any drawbacks here it may be Camp's limited range that, over the course of a full release, could make the listener a bit weary. Ultimately nothing here is earth shattering, it is yet another solid step of maturity for Camp and a release that will please his fans while making a few new ones in the process. --Michael LyttleCustomer Reviews:

I'm so glad I picked it up.
Great lyrics focused on a surrendered life that recognizes God's provision and power. Just the kind of thing we need to remind ourselves of more often!
The truth of the words sung with catchy semi-rock melodies pull you in and allow the listener to close their eyes and just imagine releasing all to the Lord Almight.
The quality and sound of the music is top-notch, nothing hokey here. Great mixing.
The few times I've dished out money for a CD I've had a rule that I need to really like at least 3 of the 10 songs on a disc. I like REALLY like 10 of the 12 songs on this album.
I look forward to his newest release coming out October 2006. Thanks Jeremy for a great album that I actually use for worship.

Camps' music is a must for you collection!.......2006-04-11
I was blessed with a new Christian Radio station and fell in love with a lot of new contemporary Christian Artists. There were so many, I went on a mission and searched with only song titles I uncovered Jeremy Camp and bought his latest album because I liked some the samples I heard here.
Unfortunately once I had the CD, I realized it didn't containn the song I had jotted down on a scrap piece of paper. So I searched more and found 2 previously released albums and purchased those too.
Fortunatley they are all equally GREAT, I really wouldn't want to sacrafice one for any of the others. Camp is great, the variations amongst tracks will surely comfort you at any point during your walk in Love.
So view each album and here the samples if you must or take my word that camps' music will calm your restless spirit and uplift your weary soul. You'll be full of praise and worship!
Powerful Worship! .......2006-03-16
Another thing is the entire album is strong and inspirational. You can actually listen to this album without having to skip over tracks. The only somewhat weak song is the final track "Carried Me." Another amazing significance is the constant focus on the glory and power Christ. Camp does not make it about "I" so much as it is about God and his glory. But at the same time it is extremely personal and deep, so it is layered well.
I really love "Beautiful One," "Enough," and "I Wait For The Lord" will really having you humbling yourself and praising the Lord. Also "Revive Me" is very powerful and great for reflection. When I met Jeremy Camp I thought he was extremely sincere and an excellent model for a Christian artist. He definitely has an excellent powerful sound. If sometimes you think contemporary Christian music is dorky and overly slick this album is for you.

Jeremy Camp makes no bones about his modern-rock influences. Stay displays strong, unapologetic musical tips of the hat to the likes of Creed and Dave Matthews as Camp wraps his faith-inspired message in a common sounding yet pleasing brand of gritty, blue-collar rock. While power rockers such as "Take My Life" flex their muscles, it's the driving urgency and catchy chorus of "Understand" and the smooth balladry of the string-laden "I Still Believe" that are most appealing. Like fellow Indiana native John Mellencamp, Camp deals head on with some tough issues, as evidenced by "Walk By Faith," a moving testament to Camp's struggle with accepting the death of his young wife, and "I Know Your Calling," a pledge from a man struggling to hold on to faith through tough times. --Michael LyttleCustomer Reviews:
