Tweens aren't often heralded for their good judgment and excellent taste (Heelys--hello), but if any young starlet can redeem them, it's Hannah Montana. On this, the second soundtrack from the Disney Channel series, Miley Cyrus takes her cues from her TV alter ego, who has an alter ego of her own: Disc 1 features Miley as Hannah, hair-tossing pop princess by weekend, likable schoolgirl by weekday (see "Old Blue Jeans" and "True Friends" to get a sense of each episode's un-cloying sweetness). But disc 2 is the start of something new, as her friends over on the High School Musical set might say: Miley sings strictly as her spunky, truth-telling self. This yields a number of pepped-up pop tracks bound to vibrate through the walls of pink bedrooms everywhere--"See You Again" is a boy-centric song instantly relatable to anyone who's ever been in seventh grade and suffered a bout of bashfulness, "East Northumberland High" puts a punk spin on an I'm-just-not-into-you tale, and "Clear" bounces on a reggae beat while canceling any doubt about our heroine's ability to stand up for herself. Like Hannah before her, Miley makes the best of both worlds--this well-worth-it set, by turns rockin' and reflective, is a masterful example. --Tammy La GorceHannah Montana Photos

The Traveling Wilburys were one of the few supergroups that lived up to their promise, because they didn't try to. Things started inauspiciously when George Harrison, needing a B-side for a 1988 single, called in friends Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison for assistance. Two albums later--the second without Orbison, who had passed away shortly after the first was released--the loose-knit collective had recorded material that was as durable, and occasionally eclipsed, the participants' legendary solo work. The Wilburys succeeded due to a genial and contagious camaraderie that permeates both discs. What could have been a train wreck of ego clashes instead resulted in a frothy meeting of the minds. These guys are having a blast, trading lead vocals and harmonies on energetic folk-rock, quirky rockabilly, and Beatlesque pop that shimmers with the respect and esteem the members clearly hold for each other. Harrison and Lynne's rather slick production polishes off edges that might better have been left unvarnished, but there's no denying the loosey-goosey craftsmanship at work in tunes such as "Handle with Care," "End of the Line," and a striking Orbison performance on "Not Alone Anymore" that ranks with any of his finest. Both albums were million-sellers, but oddly went out of print for about a decade until Rhino resurrected them, adding two rare tracks per disc as well as a DVD of music videos and a band documentary. The resulting package is a comprehensive overview of a once--well, twice--in-a-lifetime project that, especially after Harrison's passing, will never be repeated. --Hal HorowitzAlbum Description

WHAT A BAND!.......2007-07-25
THE TRAVELING WILBURYS will forever go down in Rock n' Roll history and be remembered for creating the all-time greatest Hillbilly and Country Rock n' Roll music ever. If that wasn't enough, THE TRAVELING WILBURYS will also forever be known for having one of the greatest mega-star line-up's in all of Rock n' Roll history. And just think, this all started when GEORGE needed a B-side for the hit single "This Is Love" from GEORGE HARRISON'S "CLOUD NINE" album. When EX-BEATLE GEORGE HARRISON recruited his close friends and legendary artists BOB DYLAN, JEFF LYNNE, TOM PETTY and ROY ORBISON, THE TRAVELING WILBURYS were born and Rock n' Roll would rise once again and put the sun back up in the sky one more time. In my opinion, "THE TRAVELING WILBUYS COLLECTION" is without a doubt, a true testament of the brilliant talents and musical creativity of five extremely talented mega genius'. This legendary landmark collection is also a fine fitting tribute to a great legendary band that was truly indeed, way far ahead of their time. This legendary collection is the tales in the life of THE TRAVELING WILBURYS, their music is their story.
DISC ONE begins with the legendary Hillbilly Rocker "Handle With Care," the uplifting mild Rocker "Dirty World," the 50's style Country Rocker "Rattled," the heartfelt Country Rocker "Last Night," the beautifully arranged and well sung Country Rocker by ROY ORBISON, "Not Alone Any More," the beautifully slow and harmonious number "Congratulations," the breathtaking Rocker sung by GEORGE, "Heading For The Light," the fast Country Rocker "Margarita," the continuation of THE ROLLING STONES own "Monkey Man," "Tweeter And The Monkey Man" and the 50's style Country Rocker "End Of the Line." BONUS TRACKS are the latin style acoustic "Maxine" and the beautifully slow and acoustic number "Like A Ship." END OF DISC ONE.
DVD DISC TWO contains the entire true history of THE TRAVELING WILBURYS. This is one hell of a disc and a fine introduction to the band especially for the new and curious ones. This DVD Disc also contains the great videos of "Handle With Care," "End Of The Line," "She's My Baby," "Inside Out" and "Wilbury Twist." This is one great collection that no TRAVELING WILBURYS fan would want to be without.
DISC THREE begins with the a*s kickin' Rocker "She's My Baby," the breathtaking Country Rocker "Inside Out," the beautiful Hillbilly Rocker "If You Belonged To Me," THE BEATLES sounding mild Rocker "The Devil's Been Busy," the beautifully slow song that sounds so much like THE BEATLES version of "This Boy," "7 Deadly Sins," the fast Country Rocker "Poor House," the beautifully and well arranged acoustic mild Rocker "Where Were You Last Night?," the acoustic Hard Rocker "Cool Dry Place," another great song that sounds like THE BEATLES, "New Blue Moon," the beautifully slow acoustic Rocker "You Took My Breath Away" and the fast merciless acoustic and electric Hard Rocker "Wilbury Twist." BONUS TRACKS are the slow Country Rocker "Nobody's Child" and the incredible rendition of the legendary classic song "Runaway." END OF DISC THREE. I would like to commend the late great GEORGE HARRISON, BOB DYLAN, JEFF LYNNE, TOM PETTY and the late great ROY ORBISON on a great job well done. Their voices and harmonies were breathtaking and blended perfectly together as one. Their guitar riffs and licks were extraordinary. This is one collection that you have to hear to believe.
In closing, THE TRAVELING WILBURYS were a band to be reckoned with but it would not last for long. In December 1988, ROY ORBISON would pass away leaving a missing ingredient in THE TRAVELING WILBURYS sound. THE TRAVELING WILBURYS would record one more album with just the four remaining members entitled "VOLUME THREE." The album was an instant hit but would be the last for the band. During that brief period, THE TRAVELING WILBURYS gave us a lifetime worth of music to cherish and enjoy. The remaining members would enjoy further success on their own until tragedy would fatally strike once again. In November 2001, the world would lose one of its all-time greatest and most beloved musicians ever, EX-BEATLE GEORGE HARRISON. For all of us, we will always remember those brief moments when these great legendary artists put aside their egos and joined forces just to give us all some special Rock n' Roll magic even if it was just for a short time. As we all well know, some of the members have already received the highest ultimate possible by being inducted as members of The Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. In my opinion, THE TRAVELING WILBURYS has forever left their place and mark in Rock n' Roll history and their many contributions, accomplishments and achievements as solo artists, as well as a band, will never be forgotten. So here's to you late great GEORGE, JEFF, BOB, TOM and the late great ROY. Thanks for the many great memories and moments that you all shared with us. GEORGE HARRISON LIVES! ROY ORBISON LIVES! Thanks for reading my review and I truly hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have truly enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also deeply hope that you will continue in reading all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. THE TRAVELING WILBURYS FOREVER! R.I.P. GEORGE HARRISON, Born 25 February 1943, Died 30 November 2001 at age 58. Also R.I.P. ROY ORBISON, Born 23 April 1936, Died 6 December 1988 at age 52. Long live Rock n' Roll! Rock out always and take it easy. Forever in Rock, John L.

HANDLE WITH CARE - THIS SET IS A REAL GEM.......2007-07-24
The group was complete with the addition of Roy Orbison, acclaimed by many as "The Most Beautiful Voice in Rock n' Roll." Unfortunately, Orbison passed away shortly after the first album was released, but the Wilburys succeeded due to the genial camaraderie that is reverberates through both discs. What could have been a train wreck of ego, instead resulted in these guys having a blast, trading lead vocals and harmonies that shimmer with the affection and respect the members clearly held for each other.
Harrison and Lynne's beautiful production make these records both listenable and memorable, particularly "Handle with Care," "End of the Line," and a breathtaking Orbison performance on "Not Alone Anymore". The CD's went out of print for about a decade until Olivia Harrison completed George's wishes to re-master and re-release the material, adding two rare tracks per disc as well as a DVD of music videos and a band documentary. The Deluxe package also includes a hard cover book of rare photos and a sticker.
This is a comprehensive overview of a twice-in-a-lifetime project that, especially after Harrison's and Orbison's passing, will never be repeated.

Sweet and Simple.......2007-07-03
The 2007 Essential Paul Simon is a double album reflection of what made Paul Simon's solo career so dynamic and universal. This was made in honor of his recent inagural Gershwin Award for Song, as well as his 35th anniverasry as a acclaimed solo artist. This collection follows in suit very nicely, and expands the effort delightfully that was made so well on his last solo hits package, 2002's On My Way. The songs here flow very nicely, and have all been remastered very well. All of his classics are highlighted here including the guilty pleasures 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover, You Can Call Me Al, The Boy In The Bubble, as well as down to Earth gems like Mother and Child Reunion, and his Oscar-nominated Father and Daughter from the Nickelodeon animated film The Wild Thornberries Movie, and his recently overlooked track Outrageous from his overshadowed 2006 album Surprise. This version also add in on the fun, by including some great music videos of his work and craftsmanship in songwriting like Diamonds On The Souls Of Her Shoes, and a rendidtion of the Simon & Garfunkel gem, Mrs. Robinson from the classic 70's The Dick Cavett Show.
All in all, The Essential Paul Simon really captures a delightful reflection on a career that has acclaimed for so many years, and also does a wonderful job at reintroducing one of the most legendary artists of the past five decades. If you haven't heard any of Paul Simon's music, than you really don't know what you've missed from a great icon like Paul. I absolutely recommend this hits collection a whole lot. You can still call him Al, but just call him a legend.

Also, it has been proven that classical music has nothing to do with the cognitive development of young people. Now, teach them how to play piano or violin and you have yourself an actual YOUNG EINSTEIN, but listening to this kind of music does nothing for the development of the brain. It is just for lazy parents that can't sit down with their kids and play with them or read them a book.

Tim McGraw's second greatest-hits collection in six years is also his ninth consecutive debut at #1 on the Billboard country charts. That means he must be doing something right. But what, precisely, aside from keeping up his hunk factor, and maturing his voice? Well--choosing dynamic songs that resonate at the very core of most folks' emotional center, for starters. So it's no surprise that this 16-song package kicks off with "Live Like You Were Dying," his ten-week #1 crossover hit. In addition to chart-toppers dating from 1995 ("Not a Moment Too Soon"), McGraw fills the track list with two smashes that never appeared on his own albums: his Grammy-winning duet with wife Faith Hill, "Like We Never Loved At All," and "Over and Over," the soulful Nelly confession in which McGraw, his voice technically altered, essentially serves as the rapper's tortured psyche. Of the four new songs, a cover of Ryan Adams's "When the Stars Go Blue" emerges as a stellar example of the pained loner ballads McGraw does so well, and brings to mind the faint desperation inherent in his interpretation of Elton John's "Tiny Dancer." And "My Little Girl," one of two rare McGraw co-writes here (joining "I've Got Friends Who Do"), draws on his experience as a parent and promises to flatten any father who's ever tucked in his daughter. Through the years, McGraw's on-record persona has evolved from the wimpish underdog ("Don't Take the Girl") to the strong, sensitive alpha male, both in his take-charge delivery and his sometimes edgy repertoire ("Red Ragtop"). All in all, this lengthy, hooky offering isn't just a "value pack" for McGraw fans--it's reason to hire a skywriter. --Alanna NashAlbum Description
Tim McGraw Reflected: Hits Vol 2, his second collection of greatest hits. Showcasing a body of work bookended by 1994's "Not A Moment Too Soon" and 2006's "My Old Friend," it is a reminder of the consistency and depth that have made him such an icon. Several of the songs are drawn from two albums he recorded in a mountaintop retreat with his touring band, 2002's Tim McGraw & the Dancehall Doctors, and 2004's Live Like You Were Dying. Together, they sold seven million copies, and between them they produced hits like "Watch The Wind Blow By," "Red Ragtop," "She's My Kind of Rain," "Real Good Man," and the ten-week #1, "Live Like You Were Dying," all of which are included here. The project also includes "Everywhere," from the CD of the same name, and "Grown Men Don't Cry" and "The Cowboy In Me," from 2001's "Set This Circus Down."Customer Reviews:

And if that wasn't enough, he absolutely butchers Ryan Adams' beautiful song "When The Stars Go Blue." It's tough to hear McGraw hack such a lovely song, but at least Adams (who is one of the better singer/songwriters around in any genre) is making some money for it.
If you like good music or real artists, you should look elsewhere - perhaps check out Ryan Adam's original version of "When The Stars Go Blue". Regardless, McGraw is a classless act and a mockery to the country music establishment.

Riff rock had been what Jimmy Page's former band, the Yardbirds, were all about, and on Led Zeppelin's second album, released, like its predecessor, in 1969, the inventive guitarist demonstrated that he'd indeed learned his lessons well. Witness "Whole Lotta Love," a woozy epic based on one simple, head-banging-friendly guitar riff. Or the mock-dramatic "Heartbreaker," propelled by far more intricate but similarly effective note squashing. Between Page's sonic wizardry, John Bonham beating his drums into submission ("Moby Dick"), and the juice running down Robert Plant's leg ("The Lemon Song"), Led Zeppelin here just about succeeded in raising rock & roll excess to an art form. --Billy AltmanAmazon.com
Led Zeppelin II is an album of Jimmy Page riffs so huge, and John Paul Jones/John Bonham rhythms so deep, that the heavy metal genre this classic helped create has tried for decades to catch up, mostly without success. And no wonder: since II catches the band before they'd headed too far into their ridiculous medieval fancies, this might be as good as Zep would ever be. Regardless, the thunderous "Whole Lotta Love," a Top 5 hit, and "Bring It on Home" are very nearly as fierce and twisted as British white blues would ever get. --David CantwellCustomer Reviews:

one of zep's best.......2007-06-07
from whole lotta love to bring it on home, there's not a weak song in the group. page's irresistable riffs -- the dna for countless future metal and hard rock bands -- plant's howling wolf cum celtic hippy wail, backed by the rock-solid rhythm section of bonham/jones, makes this one of their best. just when you think they are slipping in the slow start to the album's final track, page, bonham and jones kick in with a thundering sound that reminds you what is great about rock n roll.
Great Vibes, Inspiring, Effective.......2007-05-30
These songs REALLY COMMUNICATE !!!!!
I painted one room's mural to this CD.
Truly effective music.
As hard-rocking as it gets. Led Zeppelin's best album........2007-05-28
All hail the riff king!.......2007-05-14
Led Zeppelin had already shocked audiences with their controversial cover art and amazing blues-rock earlier in 1969, and later that same year they would churn out another classic album. "Led Zeppelin II" is one of the finer in their catalog, being the epitome of what Jimmy Page does best; sick and sexy blues riff-rock.
The first track is one of their most (in)famous songs, "Whole Lotta Love". A very slow-driving head-banging tune with a riff partly lifted from Willie Dixon. Page and the crew also drop crazy riffs on "Living Loving Maid", "Ramble On", and "Heartbreaker". Plant's vocals soar wildly on "What is and What Should Never Be" and "The Lemon Song" as Bonham blasts his beloved bass drum on each and every cut. What makes this album better than their debut is that it fully developed their sound. "I" had done a fairly good job of that, but "II" cut the pure blues-based pieces and instead gave it a more definitive rock edge.
As on all of the remasters, the sound quality is excellent. "II" is about on par with the original vinyl, and to untrained ears will sound just as good. This is an excellent place to start with Led Zeppelin, if not for the opening track alone. However, I would recommend to start with "Led Zeppelin IV" before coming to this gem. "II" is a cut that every classic/hard/blues/whatever rock fan should own.

This soundtrack to the hit TV series starts off with a melancholy ballad by Denver's the Fray (fittingly titled "How to Save a Life"), but the well-curated CD isn't all thoughtful adult alt-rock--reflecting the series' mood changes, it offers a wide range of modern sounds. In addition to the expected acoustical numbers (in this case, from Anya Marina, KT Tunstall, and Snow Patrol's live version of "Chasing Cars"), the album reaches across genres and continents to offer the sunny-'60s-pop vibe of Jim Noir's "I Me You," Jamie Lidell's electro-jazzy "Multiply," the edgy punky-pop aggro of Metric, the rambunctious "Sexy Mistake" from the Chalets, and the winning singalong misanthropy of singer-songwriter Foy Vance's "I Hate Everyone." Ursula 1000's Alex Gimeno lightens up the proceedings with one of his trademark upbeat, hip-gyrating numbers (which seems to pay tribute to Serge Gainsbourg's "Comic Strip"), while the Moonbabies' sweet, swirling harmonies deliver the kind of perfectly crafted pop we've come to expect from the Swedes. If this compilation turns people on to these deserving acts, it will have done its job. --Elisabeth VincentelliCustomer Reviews:
