Catchy UK pop.......2007-07-08

Leo Sayer was an accomplished singer and composer who had a 10-year span of hits in the UK from 1973 to 1983 and also occasionally broke through on the Billboard Hot 100. His first hit was the spectacular The Show Must Go On, a cover version of which was a massive US hit for Three Dog Night. The follow-up was One Man Band, whilst the next one: Long Tall Glasses, made the top 10 in the USA in 1975.

The next year, at the height of the disco era, You Make Me Feel Like Dancing became one of Sayer's biggest hits on both sides of the Atlantic and was soon followed by When I Need You from the same Endless Flight album. Thunder In My Heart was a minor hit in the UK. More Than I Can Say and Living In A Fantasy were hits in 1980 and 1981 respectively, whilst Till You Come Back To Me was a minor UK hit in 1983.

Of the 16 tracks on this album, these were not written or co-written by Sayer: I Can't Stop Loving You, Raining In My Heart, More Than I Can Say, and Have You Ever Been In Love. To my knowledge, only about 11 of these tracks were chart hits in the US or UK. Sayer also wrote Roger Daltrey's hit song Giving It All Away, and his original is included on this CD. The album 20 Greatest Hits is more comprehensive with tracks like Heart, Unchained Melody and Orchard Road.

I Used to Like This Stuff.......2007-01-05

I had a Leo Sayer album in the 70s and really liked it. I never cared for his lite-pop stuff that later made him a star, but it sounds kind of nice now in a nostalgic way. If you enjoy this peewee dynamo, this collection is a great place to hear all his best stuff. If you are a big fan, get his earlier works.

Nice Collection.......2006-07-01

I never paid much attention to Leo Sayer. Didn't even really know who he was, but I kept hearing his song "When I Need You" and it is still my favorite. Anyway, I got this album for that song and I was pleased with the remaining songs. Some of them are quite good; others are just not that memorable. Sayer has kind of strange voice and it takes a little getting used to, but it is not unpleasant and he sounds a bit different from song to song, unlike some artists where every song sounds the same. There is enough variety here to please just about anyone.
Can't quite give it 5 stars because it's just not that outstanding. It seems like it is a good intro to Sayer and I may investigate some of his other albums.

Leo/3 Dog Night.......2006-02-18

Leo Sayer came out when I was a teenager and I will always remember him on Don Kirschner's Rock Concert, dressed as the sad clown, singing "The Show Must Go On". So when, just this past summer, I heard a DJ at a club playing it during the band's break, I mentioned that it was Leo Sayer and my boyfriend said "that's 3 Dog Night" and I kept INSISTING it was Leo Sayer! Well, I asked the DJ, he checked his playlist, and said it WAS 3 Dog Night. I was shocked because the singer of 3 Dog Night (it was either Chuck or Corey I believe singing lead on this song) sounded almost IDENTICAL to Leo Sayer!!! My boyfriend and I had made a drunken bet of who was right that night and I was terribly wrong! But the singers DO sound similar!

I have this Best Of Leo Sayer CD and I like it. My favorite song is More Than I Can Say which was the main reason I bought the CD!
