The absolute best album of Crosby and Nash.......2007-01-10
Absolutely beautiful music........2006-07-18
On this album, Crosby & Nash prove that they can make a wonderful album without Stills and Young. Nash's poppier numbers perfectly counterbalance Crosby's more cerebral trips. The harmonies are solid as a rock, and the two often overdub themselves numerous times to produce a vocal blend that just might be tighter than CS&N. Instrumental backing by various members of the Grateful Dead is complementary but never flashy or intrusive.
It's arguable that this album isn't as varied as Deja Vu, but it highlights Crosby and Nash at their respective strengths. While it might be difficult to find on CD, this album is well worth seeking out for fans of CS&N and CSN&Y.

Long time compatriots and bandmates David Crosby and Graham Nash have joined forces yet again to release the oddly named Crosby/Nash 28 years after their last studio effort, Whistling Down the Wire. This double-disc is certainly worth the wait, despite the fact that most of the 20 songs are profoundly introspective and tinged with an elegant melancholy and sense of regret for an idealized past. To their credit, after four decades, Crosby and Nash are still in perfect voice, and remain graceful foils for one another, although some of the songs don't do justice to their prodigious talents. A handful are without focus and seem to be impressions in search of a hook, save the lovely, ethereal "Lay Me Down" (penned by Crosby's son, James Raymond) and the rather esoteric '60s throwback "Luck Dragon," with its elegant space jam ending. Nash's contributions are a bit more prosaic, and seem to be autobiographical ruminations about middle age, except the chilling environmental cautionary tale, "Don't Dig Here" and haunting post-9/11 song, "Half Your Angels." But the disc really comes alive when the duo shows their old ire, "They Want It All," a clear potshot at corporate greed and politics, and a wrenching read of "My Country 'Tis of Thee." --Jaan UhelszkiCustomer Reviews:

Best singers alive.......2006-07-07
Anyone should take the time to let the songs grow up in you, and then it's pure delight. Nobody sings better than Crosby and Nash.
A very, very emotional collection of songs. One of my best cds ever.
It's Not Deja Vu All Over Again, Yogi.......2006-07-05
Nothing on this disc excites you. As a contemporary, I can remember fondly the days when I waited for the next CSNY (or without Y) tune to play on the radio. Progressive Rock is what we called it; their latest effort is Regressive Crock.
Do yourself a favor...buy Deja Vu all over again...you'll find more pleasure in it.
More Is Not Always More........2006-06-10
But even that disc would have been greatly improved -- perhaps the first classic from these legends in some time -- had they chosen to leave at least a half-dozen of songs off.
With that said, there are certainly a dozen tracks that are quite nice. Crosby and Nash really shine as they perform many tunes written by others. And Crosby does manage to add one more classic to his repertoire, with the disc-one-ending "How Does It Shine?".
What stands out the most to me, though, is the production on this set. It is outstanding in a way that surpasses the remastered versions of their absolute classics. (Maybe technology isn't so bad, after all.) Even the mediocre songs sound pretty good...compared to the such poorly-produced recent efforts such as CSN&Y's "Looking Forward."
Yes, at times, this is a real car stereo tester...best enjoyed on a leisurely road trip with just enough inclement weather to require the windows to remain up. However, do be prepared to hit that skip button a few times.
CSN still on their best.......2005-11-28

A great recording.......2000-06-18
Superb musicianship throughout.......1999-03-18
Dave Mason has always been under-rated by the record-buying public, but not by fellow musicians. The credits of people who cut tracks on his solo albums reads like a who's who of classic rock. This work is no exception. If you're a musician who appreciates good stuff when you hear it, no matter what the genre or generation, check this one out.
Melody in abundance.......1999-01-08
A melodic treat full of great guitar and harmonies.......1998-12-31
The two standout tracks for me are "Give me a reason why", which you won't stop humming, and "Long lost friend", which builds to a stirring guitar-filled finish. A spledid version of Buddy Holly's "Crying, Waiting and Hoping" is also worthy of note. If you want a classy, easy on the ear album full of catchy melodies, buy this !

Graham Nash goes synth-pop, and believe it or not, he pulls it off big-time.......2006-05-04
Released in 1986, "Innocent Eyes" is Graham Nash's fourth solo album, and it ain't hard to see why it would have a lousy reputation among fans of Nash and the 'law firm'. Why? Because it sounds way different than what most anyone would probably associate with Mr. Nash, plus of the 10 songs, four of them weren't at all written by Graham. This album is flat-out EIGHTIES-style rock with a vengeance: super-slick production, booming electronic drums, 'metallic' and/or heavily chorused guitars (courtesy of session ace Michael Landau), in-your-face synthesizers.
Thing is, this is slick Eighties rock at its best, and no, I don't mean that to sound like an oxymoron--this album is a BLAST. Sometimes the lyrics ARE 'dumb', but in an amusing, intentional way--Graham seems to have his tongue firmly in cheek on songs such as the riotous, insanely catchy opener "See You In Prague and the intentionally 'annoying' and repetitive album-closing peace cry "I Got A Rock". The Paul Bliss-penned title track is TOTALLY 80's for sure, thanks in part to the additional vocals from Kenny Loggins, but it's a hook-fest that you simply can't deny. "Newday", written by Nash and longtime associate Craig Doerge, has lyrics that look bare-bones on paper, but the catchy guitar riffery, melodicism, and positive energy make it uplifting and impossible to resist. Nash also supplies a couple of raging gems with the cathartic, lyrically creeped-out "Keep Away From Me"; and the massively-catchy, uptempo protest rocker "Over The Wall".
Graham wrote a couple of great ballads for the album as well. "Glass And Steel", the one song on the album NOT to feature a drum machine, sounds as though Graham may have written it about David Crosby. And "Sad Eyes" is an uplifting love ballad, with great vocal contribution from James Taylor.
Only on a couple of songs do the lyrics start to reek of mindless drivel. "Don't Listen To The Rumours" has lyrics that are just too dumb and unresolved for their own good, but dammit, it's just so appealingly catchy anyway. The reggae-fied "Chippin' Away" has a fairly dumb and predictable chorus, but the verses are irresistibly catchy, and the song's feel-good vibe really gets under your skin (Taylor is clearly audible on this track as well, despite not being credited).
It certainly doesn't hurt that Nash is in peak form vocally throughout the album, often double-tracking his lead vocals to excellent effect. If you're looking for concrete proof of Graham Nash as a brilliant singer-songwriter, you're better off starting with "Songs For Beginners". But if you're already a Nash fan and are able to appreciate fun, well-executed '80s synth-pop, then tap into your sense of humor a little, give "Innocent Eyes" a try, and you'll get a real blast out of it. "Innocent Eyes" is a true winner!
