Light, breezy, and atmospheric, Juana Molina's Tres Cosas is a sonic journey that is at once soothing and intriguing. The instrumentation is spare but effective. "Uh" glides along on acoustic guitar and electronica loops that mingle with her soft vocals to create an appealing soundscape. The Argentinian singer/songwriter fuses folk and electronica rhythms on the title track. If you don't know Spanish, it doesn't matter. But even if you do, the lyrics are not the main focus here. These 13 tracks of electronica music are not so much for dancing as they are for reflecting and relaxing. With her soft half-spoken/half-sung vocals and sonic ambience, Molina sounds like what you'd get if you mixed folk singer Suzanne Vega and Yes' Jon Anderson. --Ramiro Burr

4 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 stars.......2007-03-20

this is an album of quiet hypnotic melodies. spanish songs sung by an angelic gentle voice. soft guitars. subtle violins. ambient electronics. it all blends into the blossoming of an organic whole that holds one in its trance until the end. a delicate, tranquil album. a repository of sweet sounds. great nighttime cd. highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Not just foreign novelty.......2007-01-10

Yeah sure, you can't grasp the lyrical content unless you're Brazilian but that's not much of a legitimate complaint for this very intimate, vaguely electronic, folk album. A wash of electronic arpeggiations and looped-on-the-fly acoustic guitar melodies, this album is probably her best and most accessible. Salvese Quien Pueda and Solo su Vos are the most memorable tracks but the others certainly don't fall flat. This album is an interesting and somewhat challenging listen as well as a decent album (imagine that). You won't be disappointed in buying this. If you're somewhat of a folk listener or have a taste for the eclectic then why the hell not, huh?

5 out of 5 stars Un disco delicioso........2005-12-31

If you enjoyed this album, 'though you didn't get the language, i recommend you to get something by the Uruguayan songwriter Jorge Drexler, whose works are sublime; you can also get "Tudo novo di novo" by the brazilian Paulinho Moska, or "Segundo" by María Rita Mariano. South America is full of great musicians you shouldn't miss, and language is a tool, not a wall.
Give a shot to Pequeña Orquesta Reincidentes. They're awesome too.

5 out of 5 stars lilting?.......2005-12-09

I don't know what the lyrics mean because I don't speak the language but Juana Molina playing in a room is like lighting a smudge, it fills the room and pushes away a days lament and lets your positive thoughts float.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful from start to finish, a must have!.......2005-09-19

When I heard the track 'Tres Cosas' on radio one night I knew I had to get the album, and it's quickly turned into one of my favourites - Juana Molina's airy voice floats through a set of mellow and hypnotic tracks that flow perfectly from one to the next. It may create a more subdued mood compared to her album 'Segundo' but in my opinion 'Tres Cosas' is miles ahead of that one - it's more subtle and refined production lends it a warm, enveloping ambience - something that can be enjoyed more and more with each listen, even if you can't understand the lyrics!
