Breaking Benjamin are awesome, I love all of their stuff and this CD is no exception. The acoustic version of 'So Cold' is great as are the other 4 songs on the CD. If you are a fan of BB you should definitely find yourself a copy of this CD, you will not be disappointed.

Just to let you all know, I am a HUGE Breaking Benjamin fan (and not because my name is Benjamin), but that doesn't stop me from looking at Cd's with an impartial view. So let me say now, this CD, not that good. It's not because of the songs, these are some of my favs, Blow Me Away right up there, but it's the live. To be brutally honest, Ben Burley sounds like he has the Flu. Honestly, if you play the studio version of So cold next to the accoustic version, there's no comparison. So heed this advice, Just download Ladybug and Blow Me away from iTunes, and get the others from WANA.

Ensemble Galilei's music is lilting, elegant and unexpected!.......2002-11-29

With their soulful playing and artful, sometimes even ephemeral arrangements, the six women of Ensemble Galilei convey a rare depth of emotion. In the insert notes, gamba player Carolyn Ann Surrick describes their creative process: "[In making this recording, we engaged in]...a kind of work that is so focused and intense that years can go by in one afternoon... Extraordinary music-making requires trust... [We] live for the times when the only thing that exists right then is the music--when the instruments are speaking as if we don't exist, and they are having their own conversation." Thank you, Ensemble Galilei, for allowing the rest of us the privilege of coming along for the ride! It's simply delectable. This chamber ensemble, featuring fiddle, harp, gamba, oboe, pipes and percussion, can also be heard on their other Telarc release, "From the Isles to the Courts", and "The Mystic and the Muse: Celebrating 600 Years of Women in Music", on the Dorian label.

Sheer beauty, as a lover of English music I found this to be one of the most beautiful of all Shakespearean albums. Such harmony, such subtlety, one wishes that the gentle night will never stop.

Ensemble Galilei provide some excellent arrangements of English renaissance compositions. I believe that John Playford (English Dancing Master) fans will be particularly satisfied with the renditions presented here. It is very unfortunate that E.G. did not provide more arrangements from such early music sources. Some of E.G.'s own compositions seem very weak and not in the renaissance spirit of the rest of the CD. Nonetheless, this CD is highly recommmended.

I found this album to be solid. Very sweet, but not afraid to use percussion which makes it livelier and more fun. I adore the quiet, peacefulness of the music and the flawless execution of these renaissance songs.

Visualizing Beauty.......2000-08-20

I recently had the good fortune to direct a performance of King Lear--the ENTIRE five acts, in a community theatre, non-profit setting. I used twenty-four fully committed non-actors, who for the love of the ideas, participated in this performance. The first and main challenge that I faced was, how do I go "behind" the words, and invoke the right emotions, etc., to give these actors the range and tools needed for an effective, powerful performance? Critical to this performance was the beauty and brilliance of this recording, which I used throughout the various scenes of the play. This helped the performers tremendously, creating the different tapestries in the mind of the Bard. In short, this work is real genius, that I was so happy that I stumbled across. I am now putting in our performance programs, along with our most heart-felt thanks to E.G., the name of the recording and I have copies from Telarc to sell at each performance!

Perfect compilation, quintessential influences.. what a find.......2005-03-01

Ministry and Peaches, Talking Heads and Fatboy Slim - I hear all these and more as seminal influences here in this very listenable CD, a snapshot of an apparently brilliant little epoch in early French synth-based pop.

What matters here is not the era but the songs, invariably good (whether your taste) and strikingly original and, moreover, very good-sounding by any era's standards. The vocals are quite affecting, at moments ethereal, at times just so European and hot.

There's real fire in some tracks - a drum machine and a moog synth pattern CAN really rock out and be downright sexy, coming from the right person's mind. That is the timeless triumph of the very good collected material on this disk.

Old-school so ahead of its time it's nu-school - .......2005-02-21

I came across this CD by surprise, but once I found out it was released only in France on the seminal TIGERSUSHI label, I knew it was gonna be good - and wasn't let down. A fascinating, eye-opening, jaw-dropping, and even highly-educational selection of the cream of the obscure, cult 70s/80s French electro/no-wave/synth-pop/punk movement - as compiled by BLACK STROBE's IVAN SMAGGHE - I know a lot of music, but many of these bands/singles I had never heard of, and they're all flawless in their own DIY way - if you like bands like The Normal, early Mute stuff, John Carpenter soundtracks, etc., this is for you!

This is a good representation of Campions' songs considering that he wrote so many of them. It is likely that Campion,not himself a professional performing musician, thought it the role of the performer to fashion their own lute parts:'For the notes and Tablature, if they satisfie the most, we have our desire; but let expert masters please themselves with better'. This seems to support the notion that Campion wished his own texts to be respected and not overshadowed by music. Far from being a foursquare musical Mr. Average, he shows himself to be a musical revolutionary. While the florid vocal writing of the Italians was an innovation to which his poetry was not suited, his sense of harmony and the responsibility given to the performer in 'creating' the music from a tune and a bass was new. One has to remember that his life was quite exciting living in the "fast lane" so to speak. I mention this fact because the emotional investment on the part of the singer must be great encompassing all sorts of tone color and vocal nuances. All of the singing is "pretty" but except for a couple of the songs such as "I Care Not For These Ladies" and "Fain Would I Wed" which showed some measure of drama, I didn't feel anything with the rest of them. Blaze has an excellent voice, but unfortunately the emotion is not always there. I think he comes across best in sacred music..Just my opinion.There are 23 songs on this disc. Many have been frequently recorded by other singers, particularly countertenors. Some of the most familiar are:'It Fell on a Summer's day'-'I care not for these Ladies'-Fire! Fire!'-'The cypress-curtain of the night'-'Fain Would I Wed'- and 2 sacred songs:'Author of Light' and 'Never Weather-beaten sail'.

Fire from Lindholm.......2001-11-17

This set contains four records with two abridged live performances. I have as yet only listened to the performance from 1974. This is one of the first pirated records to appear with the Swedish dramatic soprano Berit Lindholm. Let us hope that recordings from the Ring conducted by Sir Colin Davis at Covent Garden will appear soon! Meanwhile this Tristan from Amsterdam 1974 fills the gap with a truly amazing dramatic force. You can feel the amazement and tension among the public, crying out their "bravos" at the end. This is Lindholm's evening and a great one ideed. Totally involved in her part she becomes Isolde and everything catch fire... No Wagnerian or other opera lover can be without these records. The first two CD's concentrates on the part of Isolde (1974).The performance from 1979 (not with Lindholm)concentrates on the tenor, Spas Wenkoff - more comments will follow when I have listened to that. For the moment, the 5 stars are for the 1974 recording.
