Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars 2001-2005.......2005-12-22

One of the best and most underated post-hardcore bands has just broken up; I know I'm not alone in my lamentation. They were full of
raw energy, and had enough artistic sensibility to put them in the upper echelon of the monolithic "scene." As incendiary as At the Drive in, with the intellegence of Dredg. Even the less complex tracks are mind-blowing. Try Buses/no buses, Bloodgiver, Kylie, and the my favorite intro track Ma Jolie.

Bear vs. Shark is one of those truly unique bands that transcends genres and smashes convention. Sometimes music gets safe and stale and stagnent. Everyone's just "making" music but no one is "creating" it. Then a band like Bear vs. Shark comes charging out of your speakers and reminds you, "Yesss!!! Wait a minute? What the?...Oh Yeah!!! I remember this feeling! THIS is what I love about music!

It's like this; Fugazi hasn't put out a new record since 2001's "The Argument" and though good, I think over all it was laking energy.
Hot Water Music really hasn't been the same since joining Epitaph ( let's not even talk about "The New What Next").
Okay, the Mars Volta's pretty rad in a "Pink Floyd on speed" kinda way and Sparta's made one good album (Wiretap...) and one stinker (Porcelain). But let's face it, neither band comes close to how great they were together as At The Drive-In.

So there's a huge void in the progressive/hardcore/post-punk/indie/emo/punk rock "scene". Fear not! Bear vs. Shark is here to fill the void with powerful guitars, groovy bass lines, strategic keyboards, punishing drumbeats, sugary vocals, and gravely, bloody screams!

Some bands can kick your butt and smash your brains in. Some bands are sweet and poppy and get your booty shakin'. Bear vs. Shark does both (a lot of times all in one song) like no other band I've heard before. If you are a fan of any of the bands I mentioned here, do yourself a favor and buy this album. Then do yourself another favor and buy their new album "Terrorhawk".

5 out of 5 stars Greatest and hardest working band today!.......2005-05-08

I can't even begen to explain how good this album is. It is a must have for anyone who has ears. From start to finish it is AMAZING. And after you buy the album and become addicted as everyone else has who have listened, see them live. Thier live show is unlike any other band today. Frontman Mark Paffi is everywhere, and the band plays harder and with more passion, then any other band ive ever seen. So buy it and you wont regret it, its truly worthy of five stars. They have a new album out due in June, so keep your eyes open for "Terrorhawk"!

5 out of 5 stars The Next Great Thing From the Pig.......2005-03-29

I usually can't get dragged to a punk show. But back in college a buddy convinced me to check out Bear vs. Shark because, and only because the lead singer supposedly spazzes out; everyone likes a train wreck.

Well, this train wreck can also play! Someone else here already said Cursive meets At the Drive In, but that's right on.

Now, a live performance isn't everything; some of the best live acts to come through the Blind Pig have put out AWFUL CDs (Motion City Soundtrack). But this? Picked it up on the night of its release party and it's still in the rotation. That doesn't happen!

So try it at your own risk, but don't blame me if you become part of the train wreck you only meant to watch. Or, as the man says: if you take me down to that G-dd@man river I will sink right down to the bottom.

I LOVE this band! It's bands like this one that give me hope for music. They sound like nothing I've ever heard before. I haven't been able to stop talking about this album for weeks. Catchy yet unusual riffs and hard-hitting lyrics. CHECK THIS ONE OUT!
