5 out of 5 stars Quality-pops and clicks etc Human League remixes.......2007-07-02

While there are some pops and clicks on some of these recordings it is not because the recording source is suspect it is because the tracks that have those artifacts where created back between 1981 and 83 when samplers where hugely expensive- hard to get and didnt have much memory at all- the way the producer created most of the non stop unlimited remixes was with a
good old razor blade and tape. A skill that is dieing off. The producer- Martin Rushent- has been said that most of these remixes had SO MANY cuts and edits in the original tape that many times it could only be run through the machine once or twice before it would disintegrate!!! Be glad that these are availible as many many other great artists from the best period of new music (late 70's early to mid 80's) are still not on CD and possibly never will be. While the record companies pump out tons of garbage that has no right to be released tons of great stuff will sit in vaults- people that would spend good money will wait forever- point in case the first two albums (1980 and 81) by Polyrock. They where FINALLY just released on a small label and you had better snatch them up while you can cause the value of them will skyrocket just like the double CD of The Producers(the New Wave-Power Pop band not the remade movie) albums- they where released on a small label on cd and now less then 9 years later they are fetching 80 bucks or so!!

4 out of 5 stars shaking my head in disappointment.......2006-07-21

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY (Six Times) did they fade out the end of the Fascination remix!!!!!???? This was one of the primary reasons I wanted this CD! The genius of that remix was WAY ahead of its time, and they RUINED IT!

WHY CAN'T THEY LEAVE THINGS ALONE!?!?!?!

4 out of 5 stars Human League..........2006-01-21

Personally, I've always wanted an extended version of Human, as the regular single is under 4 minutes. The version of the song on this collection is 5:05. I do like it. I just wish it was 10 minutes longer. Guess I'll have to get software and figure how to extend it (or just loop it with RealPlayer V.10!). The rest of the mixes on this CD are also good.

Could it have been better? Sure. But as I paid under $8US for the disk, I have absolutely no complaints and feel that I got my money's worth! Four stars!

2 out of 5 stars For completist mopheads only *sheepish grin*.......2005-10-30

The cover shows Douglas beating a hasty retreat from irate fans confronted by yet another stop gap album to line his pockets. Even Socialist art is more exciting than this dismal offering. I was especially amused to find track 15 sounding like BIKO. It is time for Mr P (for it is he) to stop releasing reductive and pointless old material and start writing some reductive and pointless new material. Preferably with some nifty synth dance rhythms a-la NADA! And a distinct lack of porcine references.

The inside picture shows Douglas looking alarmingly like Eugene Terre-Blanche and seemingly geared to pen some autographs in an empty field of rape, which says a lot.

4 out of 5 stars We Said Review!... Another DIJ Catch Up Release.......2005-08-20

Yet another release in the large and ever growing discography of Death In June. This time with Abandon Tracks we find a wide open assortment of unreleased tracks or rather hard to find/out of print ones from over a pretty large span of their career. I found this release layed out and packaged quite well (in typical Death In June fashion). I find though that some of the remastered and updated tracks to be so-so and the rest, for myself (a huge fan of DIJ), nothing really exciting due to the fact i practically own all their material inside and out (why i gave it a 4/5). If your a big fan and your missing all those old out of print releases, than this release is for you, but for the occasional fan you problably won't find this release all that great (stick with and purchase some of Douglas's best releases like: Brown Book, But What Ends When The Symbols Shatter, Corn Years and even All Pigs Pigs Must Die for example).

2 out of 5 stars Typical Disco Dance Remixes.......2006-04-28

If you like the Talking Heads and you like disco remixes, you will love this CD.

In the later days of disco (after the classic period of the Donna Summer and the Bee Gees), it was common to take New Wave music and electronically remix and extend it. These were sold as EP's, which were basically singles on a 12 inch record and played in discos. Some of the extended mixes were very good. One of my favorites was Blonde's Rapture. Others were done poorly or were just annoying. That is what I think of most of the ones on this CD.

The best extended disco mixes included involvement from the band with new music being recorded and being edited in to the original. The worst consisted of outsiders taking the music and just looping sections of it. The Thomas Dolby 12 x 12 is very good.

Most of the tracks here are extended just by simply looping sections of it. This type of music is really a struggle to sit through. It is boring if you just sit and listen to it. If you have it in the background, the constant looping is just annoying. It is if you had an LP that got stuck.

Where there are new additions, they are just silly noises. There are whoop, whoops from Byrne. And nyeah, nyeah's from the band.

This music type of music is only of any value for dancing. So, if you turn you family room into a disco, with flashing lights and really loud stereo, you might enjoy it. However, I think there is much better dance music out there.

A much better dance CD and/or DVD from the Talking Heads is Stop Making Sense.

4 out of 5 stars Drinking?.......2001-03-22

If you are my age (mid-thirties) then this collection of extended play classics will conjure images of only one thing:

Drinking in college.

Apart from the regrettable ommision of an extended cut of "Road to Nowhere," this collection hits on every hot track from "Little Creatures," and "True Stories."

If you went to NIU, you are attempting to refill a Growler Bucket while not loosing track of some girl who only calls you while she's drunk, and loves the song "And She Was."

These Talking Head songs were tailor made to be stretched and syncopated, and this collection is nicely mastered are artfully aranged.

Such fun.

So, 4-stars sober, 5 after a bucket or two.

5 out of 5 stars Refreshes songs that were already greats.......2001-02-27

I'm a big fan of the Talking Heads and must say that it is completely worth it. Not only is there a new spin on classicly great songs from their last wo albums, but occasionally it almost sounds like they teased out individual souns clips that are sometimes not theard in the original album recordings due to other louder or more intense sounds. Even David Byrne's voice sounds clearer sometimes. As a long time fan it's also nice to hear a kind of "new" album by my favorite band, especially with some longer versions of these songs. Wahoo!

4 out of 5 stars A good listen for Talking Heads fans.......1999-08-24

I became a late fan of Talking Heads starting with the Little Creatures album. I worked backwards and now I love the whole catalog. I was at first very skeptical with this release. However, after my first listening of this CD I was very happy I bought it. It contains all of the 12" mixes from their later singles (Little Creatures-True Stories-Naked). The remixes enhance all of the songs and makes them different from the originals. My favorite was As She Was. The only tedious moment was the second mix of Blind. One remix was enough. Bottom line: Talking Heads fans will probably like this 71 minute CD. It will make you look forward to the new Stop Making Sense.

5 out of 5 stars One of those really great things that are nice to have........2001-06-04

I'm breaking my own rules here and I'm giving a five star rating to a collection. I tend to only buy album releases and singles. I stray pretty heavily from Best Of..'s or Greatest Hits. I find, often times a good amount of the original intent of an album is lost. It may sound eccentric, and it probably is. I usually like songs that are not hits and never show up on those types of releases anyway. (I have a friend, incidentally, if you think I'm strange or rigid. He only buys a bands debut album.)

Anyway, I love this "collection". I have the handsomer Orange and Blue cover that the import version boasts, unlike the cluttered newspaper montage American version. The content is the same, either way. I have a pretty substantial Talk Talk collection, I have all of their albums except their first The Party's Over (my tape of it, purchased in London in the Summer of 1988, has long since withered on a Honda's dashboard in the Californian Sun.)

I like Talk Talk. It would take me ages to hunt down all of these remixes, if they exist at all, and having them housed all together on one shiny CD is a wonderful thing. The truly standout tracks are the two of Such A Shame (a fantastic version of this also exists on the posthumous London 1986 which is a full concert recorded beautifully at Hammersmith Odeon over 15 years ago); Life's What You Make It; the long and winding Happiness Is Easy; Living In Another World; and of course, the early 80's smash hit Talk Talk, which I assume they've named themselves after. I do know that the first, premixed version of the song Talk Talk was put to record back in 1977 when lead singer Mark Hollis' older brother Ed Hollis (of Eddie and the Hot Rods) produced a compilation album of the up-n-coming punk acts. Mark Hollis band then was called The Reaction and they had two songs under their slim belts, Talk Talk and Talk Talk Talk Talk. That was a longtime ago.

The fact that Talk Talk emerged as part of that forgettable Neo-Romantics period in music when things were getting goofier by the minute, and then progressed progressively right at the peak of their prowess, meaning, just when they were getting good, they turned around and got much much better and shunned the music industry and tried their hardest not to have a hit single because they were so progressive they wanted a hit album. They succeeded on both counts. They had two very interesting, classic sounding albums and then quickly broke up. Nobody knew. I knew, simply by chance, as a young teenager, I was snatching up any record I could find by this band and ended up with the good ones without even knowing it. It's nice, therefore, that their is an album like this, this set of remixes, to remind us of what they ran from.

Where was this release when I was 15?

3 out of 5 stars Extended Life!.......2000-08-13

The extended versions of the songs included on this release were done without the consent of the band, Talk Talk, and resulted in a law suit against EMI, which Talk Talk was victorious over. Although they were totally against this release I rather enjoyed some of the extended versions especially those from the Colour of Spring. These versions only added more to the extension of the legacy known as Talk Talk and they should be proud that someone had the courage to take on their complex sound and create dancable tracks. This in turn has helped reach a wider audience, notably those in the dance clubs, which in turn may have encouraged sales for the band.

5 out of 5 stars Ennio rules again!!.......2006-08-24

Everybody knows Ennio Morricone, especially the themes he wrote for some great Westerns. Great artists gave a new dimension to these masterpieces.
If you like electronic music, you will like this cd. It blew me away. Same story as Vol.1, but is it is even better.

4 out of 5 stars Morricone.......2006-08-09

I can never get enough of one of the most inovative composers in our lifetime. I am glad that Amazon keeps many titles for purchase. If there is ever a concert video let me know and I will purchase it. Classic Ennio with mixes and beats. Who could ask for more!

5 out of 5 stars Good!.......2005-11-29

I really like the first disc. Sometimes remixes are unexciting, like the Phillip Glass and Jean Michel Jarre remixes I just heard, but with these Morricone remixes there is lots of very compelling music. His music seems to lend itself well to this treatment. It is worth buying for the first disc alone. The second disc also has a smaller number of good tracks, but goes wider afield and may have something quirky but interesting for you, if you are that sort of person.

To help you get an idea of my tastes, I also like Tosca, Nicola Conte, Hotel Costes #2-5, Marc Moulin, Koop, Dzihan and Kamien...

5 out of 5 stars Wishlist offering from a fan.......2003-01-13

Haven't the faintest idea what this sounds like or is about but a talented online journalista (a stunner, to boot) had this on her wishlist and I owe her so many favors as inspiration, Muse, and just plain good writer, that I fired this off to her anonymous address.

4 out of 5 stars it's great, when does the next album come out???!!!??.......2002-11-02

The first time i listened to the first freezepop album I mainly liked the first two radio-ready songs, which strangely enough never made it to mainstream radio even though they are great. Now, 6 months later, the first album has really grown on me and i realize that it has great staying power. This ep album has some great reworkings of the songs on that first album plus a few new great songs. check out freezepop, they are really worth the listen. also if you like them or other light electropop-check out lali puna, venus hum, and the dot allison album "we are science"

4 out of 5 stars Great mini-album followup........2002-07-12

You should definetly get Forever first, but if you enjoy synthpop you have to check this out. "Lazy" is as pretty as "Plastic Stars", and has one of the better choruses to come out of synthpop in quite a while. "Shark Attack" is the coolest song anyone's ever written about Wheel of Fortune, and actually has vocals from the Duke of Candied Apples instead of Liz for a change of pace. And it's worth the price of the disc alone for the Lameboy remix of Science Genius Girl that was actually programmed on a hacked gameboy. Delicious...

4 out of 5 stars Silly, vacuuous, bublegum electropop.......2002-04-29

Just what the doctor ordered. Extremely catchy, Robotron and Manipulate steal the show. My guilt knows no bounds, I like it.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD!!!.......2004-08-18

First of all, I've never really been a fan of synthpop, electro-pop, or whatever you call this type of music. However, when I heard Freezepop's song Super-Sprøde on my Amplitute PS2 game, I just know that I had to get the CD. The best way to describe the music and lyrics to this song is that they're just amazingly fun.

This CD contains the original Super-Sprøde and 6 remixes of the song. It also contains five other songs. I usually find that I'm disappointed with remixes, but a few of these are just as good or better than the original. Each remix is very different from the original and the other remixes...so much different, that it's almost like listening to seven completely different songs. The first three remixes are absolutely great, the next two remixes are just okay, and the last remix I just don't like at all. I was really suprized by the quality of the other songs. Lazy is a great song...and great to sing-along with. The other songs are also very good, with the exception of Freezepop Forever which I can only describe as too "hyper".

Overall, I'd highly recommend this CD. For more information on Freezepop, checkout their website at www.freezepop.net. There you'll find some samples of the songs on this CD.

To the other reviewer who thinks that Super-Sprøde contains the lyrics "Jesus scratched my car"...you might want to listen a little closer, the lyrics are acually "the cutest fans by far"...by hey, I got these lyrics wrong the first time as well.

5 out of 5 stars awesome 90s remix collection, but the track listing is wrong here.......2006-08-05

This fantastic "soundtrack" remix package has the biggest remixers of the day with some big house club sounds--all in full length mixes, running as long as 12 minutes: deep house, tribal, latin, even some R&B mixes with tracks 6 and 7. The amazon track list is wrong. The actual track listing is:

1. turn the beat around (def classic mix)...gloria estefan (david morales mix)(7:36)
2. love is the thing (spike boys club mix)...donna allen (darrin friedman and hex hector mix)(9:04)
3. el amor (multiple orgasm mix)...azucar moreno (tony moran mix)(12:42)
4. el baile de la vela (ralphi's tribalground mix)...chelto (ralphi rosario mix)(6:38)
5. jambala (alternate mix)...Miami Sound Machine (johnny vicious mix)(7:55)
6. Real (x-tended R&B mix)...donna allen (david morales mix)(4:40)
7. shower me with love (smoove soul 12")...Lagalyia (E-smoove mix)(5:02)
8. turn the beat around (damien's fountainbleau mix)...gloria estefan (Phillip Damien mix)(7:19)
9. real (Def house mix)...donna allen (david morales mix) (7:54)
